Thala Galanis

Thala is taken from the Greek word Θάλασσα, which is romanized to be “Thalassa” and it means “sea”, and Galanis is a Greek surname that means “blue” 

Solera Aurado 

I think I’ve talked about how I named her before, but as a refresher: Solera’s dad is from Scinra, which is inspired by Spain, and her mother is from Betii, which is inspired by Ethiopia, so I combined “Sol” (sun) from Spanish and “era” (taken from the Aramaic word ያበራል, which is romanized to be “yaberali” and it means “shine”), and Aurado is a combination of Au (the periodic table symbol for “gold” and “dorado” which is Spanish for “golden”

Zurri Ao’Nin

Zurri is a Swahili name that means “beautiful” (fitting, as this is a very loose Snow White retelling and she’s our Snow White), and Ao’Nin is a surname that fits in with the naming conventions of Thiortha, the country that this book/series takes place in. Ao’ is the prefix that the Siull use for their surnames (different countries have different prefixes) and Nin is the old Irish word for “Ash tree” (the Siull live in hiding in the forest, and all of their surnames have to do with different trees) 

Konan O’Connor

Konan means is an Irish name that means “wolf, hound” (it’s been so long, I forget why we chose this name for him, but it just fits him so well I can’t bring myself to change it lol). O’ is the prefix the people from Arnna use for their surnames, and Connor is the name of the first king of Arnna, so O’Connor is the surname of the royal family of Arnna

Moti Ao’Dara

Moti is an East African name that means “leader”, and you already know about Ao’ so Dara is the part of the Old Scottish word “darach” which means “Oak tree” (which, in Siull beliefs, the Oak tree is the most sacred of them all, and is what they use exclusively for their wand woods)

Brynja (Lahjadottr) Mc’Tharn 

* fun lil fact: her name just changed in the making of this post, because I realized her original name no longer fits her in-world heritage lol

Brynja (pronounced PRIN-ya) is a Icelandic name that means “armour”. She is from Rejkvin, specifically Tokjin, but her mother (Lahja) moved them to Dacha in Thiortha and married a man with the surname Mc’Tharn, and she adopted that surname when she started living in Dacha as a way to conceal her magic (since practicing magic of any kind is forbidden in Dacha).

Every time I go back to WoW after a long hiatus, I'm struck by how DIFFERENT my characters look in-game from how I imagine them, draw them, and ask others to draw them.

It's most jarring with Verk because of the vastly different body type. Verk is an elf, yes, but she is a TANK; she's short, muscular, and also flat as a board. The newer armor with 3D effects helps a bit for adding bulk and avoiding boobplate, but I still want to take her character model and squish it to half height while keeping the original width to at least make her proportions correct.

Tel is also an elf, and she IS thin and leggy, but even SHE isn't the spaghetti of blood elf models, especially since she should still have the shoulders of an archer. I should count it as a win that I can finally actually give her black hair, olive skin, and more jewelry, as of whenever that cosmetic update was, but she's still not quite right.

Eres... I get that she's immortal, but why does she look so YOUNG? Eres spent like 2 years as effectively a single mom working like 60 hours a week and living off caffeine and the grace of the Light. The two years before THAT she got kidnapped, almost died, and had her entire worldview overturned. She is TIRED. Why can't she LOOK tired?
