I love the insanely different uses dedicated communities for ENTIRELY separate games can come up with for the exact same glitch.
Mario 64: I'm sure we all remember the "half A press" video. What you may not be aware of is that this particular challenge (beat mario 64 without pressing the A button) has continued to progress, as slowly as something this complicated tends to, and this week 3 of the remaining A presses were shaved off all at once leading to only 16 unique instances of the A button being pressed and released left in the entire 120 star 100% run (any% has been solved for a while now)
The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time: You may have seen the recent Tool-Assisted Speedrun of OoT done at Summer Games Done Quick this year, dubbed "triforce%" which uses arbitrary code execution to showcase cut beta content from the original N64 release of the game. (please watch this video it's truly insane) This run not only places cut beta content back into the run without the use of mods or hacking, it does so live and uninterrupted utilizing human input as the jumping point.
Would you believe me if I said both of these used the same quirk of the engine these games run in?
Mario 64 runners call this the HOLP: the Held Object's Last Position. Effectively, picking up an item or enemy causes it to update the position and orientation for the held object in real time as Mario moves. Mario 64 and OoT run in the same basic engine (as do many modern nintendo games! Splatoon 2 and Animal Crossing: New Horizons are the same engine!) You can use glitches to manipulate the engine to not update this until needed, allowing you to, say, spawn a bob-omb out of bounds and use the explosion to propel you.
Zelda 64 (OoT and Majora's Mask) runs in this same engine, and therefore also feature the HOLP. Until 2019 this wasn't useful info, but it was found out that with precise manipulation you can rewrite the games on the fly, leading to live patching of Ocarina of Time into an entirely different game, utilizing nothing but a very dedicated human, and a robot who presses buttons really, really fast.

Foi lançado no Japão em 21 de novembro de 1998; na América do Norte em 23 de novembro de 1998; e na Europa em 11 de dezembro do mesmo ano. Ocarina of Time é o quinto jogo da série The Legend of Zelda, e o primeiro com gráficos 3D. 🏹 #TheLegendOfMarkOfTime #zelda #zeldasouloflegends

i think the thing that best illustrates how superflous Zelda actually is, is that two of the more notable plots this series has ever had, both didn't feature her as part of the narrative at all(Link's Awakening and Majora's mask).
if you can easily take the zelda out of Zelda, and still produce good, solid plots, she clearly is not the most engaging of characters.
That's why the old DiC cartoon's Zelda is objective the best one. ;)
you gotta love the insane, overly complicated ways that Fans take something as simple as a small cut bit of animation and a character location, and incorporate it into a mod, that they pretend isnt a mod because most of it can be played on a cartridge. technically :D Like, i am impressed by what they did for the triforce ending, but its a mod guys, its okay to call it a mod. you didnt have to go to those insane lenghts just to play it on a cartridge.
Today I learned there's a Trifoce Ending mod. XD I was referring to the old conspiracy theories of the 90s that there was a secret ending to OoT that involved actually acquiring the full Triforce. Visiting sites with all those theories and photoshopped "proof" was one of the ways I first started using the internet for entertainment.
That's awesome that these people actually hacked this together. It's wacky, but it's kind of like bringing things full circle from those early days. The Triforce is finally 'in the game,' in a manner of speaking. You can acquire it on your N64 with your golden cartridge.
That said, it's totally a mod and doesn't really count.

I played another Banjo Kazooie Mod, Banjo-Kazooie: Worlds Collide, by Bynine B.
No screenshot this time, sorry.
It seems I can’t get enough of the Bear and Bird lately. After Jiggies of Time, I finished a run of the original I had started a few months ago.    Today, I played Worlds Collide.  Next, i’m eyeballing Banjo Dreamie and i’m currently playing Tooie again, but i’m getting ahead of myself.
Worlds Collide only took me a few hours to beat, but it still felt quite satisfying to play. It was a Banjo Kazooie hack, but it felt more like a celebration of both Banjo Kazooie, as well as Banjo Tooie.  Most of the worlds in the game had a theme of being mash ups of two or more worlds from both games.  One of the fist is a Treasure Trove Cove and Mayahem temple mashup, with another being Glitter gulch Mine and the wild western area of Witchy World.  They even found a clever way to incorporate the quiz portion the series is known for in a fun way... it was still a BK hack though, so unfortunately, no Banjo Tooie enemies or characters appear in the game in person. ( Hopefully one day BK hackers can hack Tooie as well )
The worlds are actually a fair bit smaller than the worlds in Banjo Kazooie, but they’re really dense and focus more on platforming challenges.  I never died in this game though so it’s not too tough... This is an older hack, and nobody had quite figured out how to alter Jiggy spawning mechanics, so the main collectible in this game is actually the notes.  10 in each world, 80 notes in total, with the final world having no notes, but a single jiggy you get by collecting 5 Jinjos. The theme of this final world is actually pretty cool.
The ending is a little anticlimactic, but I really appreciate the message it sends to fans of Banjo Kazooie... at least those in the modding community. ( I wish I was a member of that community but i’m still taking baby steps into editing Mario sprites. )  But it makes me hopeful that if Rareware won’t deliver us more Banjo Kazooie goodness, the fans will step up and do it themselves...  I had a fun time with this one.  May even play it again someday, it almost feels like a more arcadey and condensed version of Banjo Kazooie....
That all being said.... I’m playing Banjo Tooie right now... the duo just feel a lot better to control.  I hope the modding community considers taking a look at Tooie and trying to port some of the stuff from it back to BK, kinda like how OOT have incorporated some Majora’s Mask stuff.

@chwbybwnny replied to your post “OMG there’s a new romhack of Loz:OoT that’s like 20 hours long!!...”
Didn't they remake OoT for the 3ds like a couple years ago?
That and Majora’s mask!!!
But the rom-modding community have been hard at work making new content with the original game itself.  There are a plethora of projects that have been completed or developed at least halfway.  As time has progressed the sophistication of the rom hacks have been improved greatly.
To basically take the original game and completely turn it around and create a whole new game (which is kinda how Majora’s mask was made) is a real accomplishment.  And with the code for the original game now out in the ether, it’s about to get crazy

Someone did a very impressive ROM hack of this OoT mod adventure, so it's really like its own game with heavily unique areas & different situations going on in the lore / story.

Here's the info, and if you're interested, get an emulator & find where to download it: https://twitter.com/ostrealava02/status/1065624783411392512?lang=en Gameplay footage: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DpWP-hKFHNc
