Cyberpunk 2077 review and everything you will love it

Cyberpunk 2077 has been available since December 2020 on PC, consoles, and Stadia. We are going to take a quick tour of everything you need to know before embarking on the adventure.

After having conquered the public with the series The Witcher, CD Projekt Red launches a new license: Cyberpunk 2077. Farewell to heroic fantasy, since this time we are plunging into a dystopian future. In this little file, we are going to take a quick tour of the owner.

WHAT IS THE CYBERPUNK 2077 RELEASE DATE?

Cyberpunk 2077 was released on December 10, 2020 . This release concerns the PC, Stadia, GeForce Now, but also PS4 and Xbox One versions. It is possible to play it on PS5 and Xbox Series X thanks to the magic of backward compatibility. To date, the game is rather a huge box, since more than 13 million copies of Cyberpunk 2077 have sold .

Next-gen versions will not arrive for several months. If you already have the game on a platform, the update on this new version will be free. At the moment, no specific date for this version, but CD Projekt has indicated that it will be in the second half of the year. Once all technical issues are corrected. And there is!

WHAT IS THE PRICE OF CYBERPUNK 2077?

On PC, the game is sold for 60 euros on the Steam, Epic Games Store or GOG.com platforms. On consoles, it's a little more complicated. Following the catastrophic state of the PS4 and Xbox One versions, Sony and Microsoft have decided to withdraw the game (sold for € 70) from their online store. It is still possible to buy it in a boxed version in online stores and on merchant sites. Note that Fnac and Amazon sell it at a knockdown price, at 40 euros instead of 70 euros , in order to sell off stocks. Finally, Sony will reverse its decision on June 21, 2021 , 180 days after the game's disappearance from PlayStation Store.

Goodies (statuette 25 cm of the character of V, Night City guide, stickers, Night City map, postcards, key ring…). Price of this beautiful pack: 220 euros. Nevertheless, it is difficult to find today and should be reserved for collectors.

WHICH PLATFORMS ARE SUPPORTED?

Cyberpunk 2077 has been released on PC, Xbox One, PS4, Stadia, and GeForce Now. A version of the Xbox One X in the colors of the game is in the game for most fans. The Xbox One X Cyberpunk 2077 edition has been available since June 2020 and includes a download code for the game. An Xbox controller is also available, it can be purchased separately for € 69.99.

Cyberpunk is also available on PC , obviously, via three platforms : GOG Galaxy from CD Projekt, but also Steam and the Epic Games Store. Moreover, the launch of the game brought the two services to their knees.

The game will also be available on PS5 and Xbox Series X for free for those who purchased it on PS4 and One . Of course, graphic improvements are to be expected for these versions, but not for the future. We will have to wait for the release of a patch in the second half of 2021.

Be careful, some sites offer a beta Android version of the game: it is actually ransomware. By downloading the application on your smartphone, it will request access to your files. Cyberpunk 2077 is ray-tracing compatible on PC thanks to a partnership with Nvidia. Note that you need 70 GB of free space on your PC to install it. HOW LONG DOES IT TAKE TO COMPLETE THE GAME?

CD Projekt had made grandiose promises regarding the game's lifespan, even arguing that it took over 175 hours to finish it. However, the reality is very different, since the different tests evoke twenty hours to complete the main story. And fifty to do all the side quests. It's already very long, but still far from 175 hours. For our part, we completed the main campaign and all the side quests in just under forty-five hours.

ARE EXPANSIONS AND DLC PLANNED?

CD Projekt RED has already announced that its game will benefit from DLC similar to what we find on The Witcher 3 . Before that, the title should benefit from free updates offering new armor, new quests, new customization options, and more.

Tuesday, December 29, 2020, the developers announced that a rain of free DLC will land on Cyberpunk 2077 in 2021. Scheduled for the beginning of the year, the studio has finally made the decision to postpone their arrival to the second half of the year . The priority remains the correction of current technical problems.

The Witcher 3 had benefited from two paid expansions (Heart of Stone and Blood and Wine), offering more than ten hours of play each. It's unclear if Cyberpunk will be entitled to such treatment, but given the success of the thing on The Witcher. Their absence would be surprising. Note that the single-player game does not offer any micro-transaction.

MULTIPLAYER MODE AND CYBERPUNK 2077 MODS

The developers have confirmed the presence of a multiplayer mode, but it is not yet available. The priority is reserved for the solo, in particular on the correction of the bugs, still very numerous. CD Projekt has confirmed the fact that the multiplayer mode is developed separately from the main game and that it will not be expected anytime soon. Indeed, CD Projekt is currently working on a new technology capable of integrating multiplayer on all franchises . The idea would be to offer a common experience to players on different games by connecting them to each other. For now, we don't have more details on the subject.

Note that in the absence of a multiplayer mode, independent modders have already started their work. A team is currently developing a 3rd person view for the PC version of Cyberpunk 2077 . In addition, a fan is working on an improved version of Cyberpunk 2077 on PC . Halk Hogan, that's his name, is known and recognized for his HD remake of The Witcher 3 (see below). The videographer said he has similar plans for the latest CD Projekt title and that he intends to boost the quality of “ 3D models and textures” of the game which he considers “ poor quality” . In addition, CD Projekt Red obviously has nothing against modding, quite the contrary. While the publisher is still working hard to fix all the bugs, the developers have just released an official sequel to mod Cyberpunk 2077 .

WHAT IS THE TYPE OF GAMEPLAY?

Like The Witcher, Cyberpunk 2077 is an RPG. But the similarities end there. An announcement that did not fail to react to the community at the time. Modders have been working on a 3rd person mod ever since .

We therefore leave the medieval and fantastic world in which Geralt de Riv evolves to move on to science fiction. Unlike The Witcher where the player necessarily controls Geralt, you create your own character , whether it is his physical aspect, his abilities and characteristics, and even his story (among three choices).

Cyberpunk 2077 offers the player to navigate in an open world where the scenario is divided into missions (some are part of the main quest, others are optional and participate in expanding the scenario or enriching the gameplay). In absolute terms, you are free to explore the city and its surroundings and even make as much mayhem as you want, just like in Grand Theft Auto . Freedom of action is essential and you can have fun as you please in Night City, although the policing system could use some improvement.

The importance is given here to the storytelling with a system of branches, drawers and decisions which have an impact not only on the unfolding of the main scenario, but also on the options which are given to you to accomplish the missions , on the changes and improvements available to you, as well as the evolving open world.

CYBERPUNK 2077: ARE THERE ANY BUGS?

We are not going to go four ways: yes, when it comes out, Cyberpunk 2077 is riddled with bugs of all kinds . To calm the players, CD Projekt Red reimbursed 30,000 buyers . Suddenly CD Projekt was forced to apologize on video , while promising that corrective patches will arrive regularly. Separately, Bloomberg also published a lengthy survey looking back on the chaotic development, pointing the finger at the studio for its chaotic management, crunch and outrageous ambitions.

Apart from the video game aspect, CD Projekt also faces external difficulties. Indeed, a hacker has stolen the source code of the game (as well as that of The Witcher 3 and Gwent) and sensitive documents. The studio was able to get everything back, however, and refused to pay the requested ransom. If this case has no repercussions for the moment, it adds to an already complicated situation for the studio.

However, things are slowly starting to improve. At the end of March 2021, CD Projekt deployed a giant patch that fixes a multitude of bugs. PC gamers finally enjoy a more than correct version of the game, while console gamers see their framerate increase. But that doesn't necessarily mean the end of the problems. New issues have appeared on PS4 and Xbox One, such as unwanted crashes and reduced graphics quality.
