very specific opinion i have:

I don’t think the Lotus Hotel & Casino should automatically acclimate its inhabitants to the modern time period, because the entire point of the hotel is that it’s trying to keep people there and they will never leave, so the ideal scenario is to prevent them from experiencing the passage of time. The best way to do that would be to keep things changing as little as possible from the guests’ perspectives, and convince them they’ve spent less time there than they thought.

Even though the guests are canonically in a sort of daze, Percy specifically notes that time felt extremely distorted in the hotel, not just in the sense of “we were here for what felt like hours but outside the hotel it was a week,” but in more of a “It only feels like we’ve been here like half an hour, but i guess it might have actually been a couple hours or so- oh, a week has passed outside.”

I like to imagine the hotel is actually pretty labyrinthine when you start getting into it, and the deeper you go the older the sections of the hotel start becoming, so you get these really eerie effects when traveling through it. Especially since the hotel would theoretically shift with the other mythological locations, so if you go back far enough the hotel probably starts getting really weird, because also it’s just kind of infinite inside. People have definitely gotten lost in the depths of the hotel forever, outside of the whole never leaving the hotel thing. The di Angelo siblings might have been slightly extra resistant to the daze effect though and so were able to travel further outside their designated era wing than they normally would and start noticing that there was Something Really Weird Going On. But it still probably would have taken them awhile.

Also I am. Constantly forgetting how fucking funny Hunter is. We never give him enough credit for how funny he is because his life is so fucked up but I swear 90% of his lines are just bit after bit after bit. He's not even trying either. Anytime he actively tries to make a joke it falls flat but if you just put him in a Scenario he'll find a way to be so over invested and yet out of touch/at odds with whatever's going on. We've had Maya for 3 episodes and I haven't hated her for a single one of them. In fact, my love of Maya just grows each episode. She's such a fascinating contrast to Kohei. Especially when it comes to being able to specifically hear Taichi's loud voice.

For Kohei, it's a comfort. Cause it's something he can hear. But for Maya, it's jarring. She can hear so little that it's outside the norm for her to be able to hear someone and Taichi is something different because she can hear him.

Maya has kind of hidden herself away inside the comfort of her hearing loss and Taichi simply speaking forces her out of that. Which is uncomfortable. And she is already forced into being uncomfortable by living in a hearing people's world. So it's jarring when the one constant she has to cling on to (even if it is literally the cause of her discomfort) is disrupted.

Maya is starting to be faced with the truth that Taichi is a good person. She might not like him, and she doesn't need to like him. But that's why she is telling Kohei that he is going to be abandoned once Taichi finds someone else. Because she fully believes that Taichi, while good, will leave because she believes being with her and Kohei is a struggle. But Taichi, above all else, is adaptable. Which is why he is able to see the flaws in his (new/future) boss's logic about accessibility for one group taking away from another group.

But Maya doesn't see these moments. Maya just knows that Kohei favors Taichi despite the messy notes, almost crashing into them, and what she perceives as Taichi taking advantage of Kohei by having Kohei bring him lunch. Maya never gets the see the intention behind the good things that Taichi does, she only ever sees the execution. So I can't fault her for wanting to look out for her friend. Even if her execution is flawed too.

And I think that's my point. All of them, not just Maya, are flawed. Taichi isn't perfect because he helped Kohei and brought him back into the world. Taichi is lovable and he's wonderful and he is doing his best. Taichi is genuinely a very, very good person. But he is flawed. His notes are messy. But he's trying. Kohei is trying. And Maya is trying too. But just because they all approach things differently, doesn't mean that one is a villain. And I cannot hate Maya for being different.

Did anyone else noticed that Charles seems to be the only one that puts effort to save them from death or being taken away?

Maybe I need to watch the show again, but of all the times they were in danger of being separated, Charles is the first one to step in and defend them. I don’t think I remember seeing Edwin step in or fight or do something to avoid the situation, I wonder why that is? (Unless he did but I don’t remember because I have a brain of a goldfish) but I wonder why, some times it gets me thinking if it was Edwin’s turn to fight for them, is he going to do it? WILL he do it? Is he willing to go as far as attacking someone (like Charles did with the night nurse) or even worse? What would he do in that situation?

It gets me thinking as well, even if Charles doesn’t feel the same way. His feelings for Edwin (platonically) are so so deep and immense that he would literally do ANYTHING to not get separated from him almost like he literally CANNOT live without him, maybe he cannot imagine what he would do if he doesn’t have Edwin by his side. They have been together for so many years, he’s used to him. Losing him would probably send him into a mental breakdown or worse, and that is something interesting to think about.

Have you considered that if you need an outside source to tell you that minor/adult relationships, incest relationships, abuse relationships ect. are bad/can’t understand that subtext, maybe you shouldn’t be on the internet?

“What about the children? They don’t know any better!” Monitor and limit your child’s internet use. As someone who was raised with unlimited, unmonitored internet access, do it. I don’t care if it makes your job as a parent harder, do it. Especially if your child is young enough to not understand stuff like this or has any issues that may lead to them not knowing.

Also raise your children knowing that stuff isn’t okay? Like I remember my mom having a talk with me to avoid strangers and that if random people try to talk and get close to me to run and avoid that. Are parents not teaching their kids basic safety to the point they don’t know this?
