#or the doctors brother Irving braxiatel

Being so deep into the lore of a piece of media is fun because you get to know things, but it also sucks because you can no longer have a conversation about your interests with anyone who’s remotely normal about that piece of media

The Sixth Doctor's opinion of Braxiatel.
Or, as I prefer to put it, a little brother's opinion of their big brother.

When you think about it, it’s kind of interesting that both Lungbarrow brothers (the Doctor & Braxiatel) have some kind of romantic relationship or feelings for Romana in some type of canon:
Four and Romana I sharing a kiss in “MERRY CHRISTMAS DOCTOR WHO” special.
The Prime Computer Ads with Four & Romana (“MARRY THE GIRL, DOCTOR.”)
The Doctor and Romana watch the end of the universe together, after which the Doctor offered her the LAST rolo in the universe for Valentine’s Day. (DO YOU LOVE ANYONE ENOUGH?)
Four found Romana attractive in her first incarnation (TV: THE PIRATE PLANET) And kissed her second incarnation (PROSE: THE WELL-MANNERED WAR)
The Doctor felt a close connection with Romana, due to her being a Time Lord with ideas like his, and was even tempted to cease travelling to be with her. (PROSE: NOTRE DAME DU TEMPS)
Braxiatel with his constant flirting/affections for Romana calling her “star-blazing queen of the night” among other things. (see all the Gallifrey Audios.)
Braxiatel’s whole entire daydream in GALLIFREY: REBORN, including the line: “And if I had a white charger, Romana, it would be my privilege to carry you off into the sunset…” He literally wants to marry her and take her off into the sunset too. AHHH!
Braxiatel straight up FLIRTING with the Alternate Romana I in front of Romana II in GALLIFREY: REBORN. Is it considered subtle anymore?
Okay, literally ANYTHING Brax does for Romana in order to save her life in the Gallifrey & Big Finish Audios (like take Pandora into his mind and reverse time or other things in order to save her from dying MANY times.)
The fact Brax was called “The Icicle” during the Academy while Romana was called “The Ice Maiden.” Need I say more? It explains itself. (GALLIFREY AUDIO: LIES)

hi, I'm new to the Gallifrey fandom and a little lost so - can anyone tell me where the "cryptocurrency brax" thing has come from? And why people thought he was going to be the Grand Serpent?

Benny: Brax, the Doctor just showed up and claims he can fix the time anomalies. Brax: Well, that's either the best news we've had all day or the beginning of a cosmic disaster. The Doctor: Why not both?

Is Ulysses, as tardis wiki claims, Irving Braxiatel's father?
No! Ulysses is clearly the Doctor's father, and Braxiatel is clearly heavily implied to be the Doctor's brother, but no story has connected the two. So while it's an understandable assumption for the wiki to make, it's also an unjustified one. After all, there remains the strong possibility that Ulysses is Braxiatel's mother!

Family Feud Nominations, Who is the Best Doctor Who Family
If I've missed a character out of one of the families let me know (within reason, I imagine all these families are massive in the EU, so prioritise tv or significant characters)
Currently, the only rule is no families may inculde anyone who is even ambiguously The Doctor, it'll get super complicated super fast imo
Any characters, eg River, who can link up multiple different families to create a single massive family unit will be treated on a case by case basis. If it is possible to pick one of the smaller family units that they are a part of to include them in while not including them in any of the others (in a way everyone will agree at least makes sense) they will be included in that family only, otherwise they will not be included
Please bare in mind when you are nominating that I am hoping to keep the number of nominations under 64 to run this as a mini-tournament. This is not a hard rule so if nominations do exceed 64 its not a big deal, just something I'd like everyone to bare in mind

DW Fanfic: Twilight of the Innocents (New) To save Rose Tyler and free the Universe from a sentient disease's grip, the Doctor, the Master, and Irving Braxiatel must work together. But can the last three Time Lords, so deeply divided by distrust, be trusted with the fate of the Universe?

Chapter 1: Three Time Lords and a Little Time Lady The Doctor and Leah's recovery is halted by a new aggressor.
The ship hailed for the third time.
‘Answer it,’ the Doctor said.
‘What are you going to do, give them some sort of moral choice?’ the Master said facetiously. ‘We need to go.’
‘Brax, answer that hail,’ the Doctor ordered his brother, ignoring the Master.
Brax obliged, hitting the button.
‘This is the SS, um, Gallifrey? State your intention,’ the Doctor said.
‘Hello,’ came the reply in an unfamiliar female voice. ‘I’ve never heard you in real life, but you have such dulcet tones, Doctor. I bet you have a lovely singing voice. Sing me Moon River - you’ll make me swoon.’
‘State your intention,’ the Doctor repeated.
‘Intention? Well, I’m a bounty hunter, so money in exchange for you, I guess.’
‘You cannot fire on us,’ Brax stated clearly. ‘By attacking us, you are endangering the Doctor’s life. If you want that bounty, you have to board us.’
‘With pleasure,’ the bounty hunter replied. ‘See you in ten minutes. Make some aperitifs.’
‘You’ll have to outrun us,’ Brax said.
‘Because a class E ship straight out of a junkyard is just so difficult to catch,’ the voice mocked. 'Was that a last-ditch resort, or are Time Lords dumber than Momma told me?’
‘I am warning you. Leave us alone,’ Brax stated.
‘Or what?’
‘Or … er,’ Brax said, suddenly at a loss for words.
‘Oh for …’ the Master muttered, and leant forward. ‘Hello. We're just trying to catch a tan, and you're ruining our holiday. Because on this ship are three Time Lords who are absolutely superior to you in every single way. If you don't turn back right now you'll find your lovely little ship in pieces across the Kasper Belt, with you in it.’
‘You’ve got nothing, Time Lord. You can't even fire on me.’
‘News for you - we don't need lots of weapons to blow your ship apart. Stop wasting our time.’
There was a pause.
‘Oh, that's a man of authority,’ the voice said. ‘I'll take the risk. Start running, boys. Or girls. Or whatever you are. Time Lords are so confusing.’
The comm went dead.
‘Well, that went well,’ the Master muttered.

"𝐈'𝐦 𝐇𝐚𝐥𝐟-𝐇𝐮𝐦𝐚𝐧…𝐨𝐧 𝐦𝐲 𝐦𝐨𝐭𝐡𝐞𝐫'𝐬 𝐬𝐢𝐝𝐞."
𝘈𝘯𝘵𝘪 𝘛𝘪𝘮𝘦𝘭𝘦𝘴𝘴 𝘊𝘩𝘪𝘭𝘥 — My Doctor's do NOT follow the Timeless Child arc!
Tumblr media
I need to address the elephant in the room, and that's the fact that I don't follow the Timeless Child arc on this blog (or with my Doctor's.) It's okay if others like it, you won't see me bashing on it, but do know this blog is Anti Timeless Child as I've stated in my pinned post and rules.
Instead, my Doctor's origin stories follow the Wilderness Years of Doctor Who where the Doctor mentions in the TV Movie that he is Half-Human on his mother's side. It is further explored in the Doctor Who Novels: The Room with No Doors, The Gallifrey Chronicles, The Infinity Doctors, and so on.
Here's the important things to note:
Penelope Gate is my Doctor's mother. Yes, she is human and has red hair.
The Time Lord named Ulysses is my Doctor's father.
And yes, Irving Braxiatel is my Doctor's older brother -- Lungbarrow brothers! I also acknowledge them having sisters too.
Speaking on the subject of Lungbarrow, the Doctor was loomed/ born into the House of Lungbarrow, but he isn't the Other or some hidden secret ancient founder or co-founder of Gallifrey. Nor does he have any top secret hidden lives.
This means Susan Foreman is still his granddaughter too.
With that in mind, it also means the Doctor has had a partner (let's say Patience) and most definietly has children out there. Thanks.
He's really just a rebel Time Lord that wants to see the universe and has a fondness for humanity and adventure and likes to help out where ever he can. What's not special about that?

60 Years of Doctor Who Anniversary Marathon - Hartnell 5th Review
The Empire of Glass - Novel
Tumblr media
This is a novel of two halves. Half of it is very good, and the other half is not so good. But it’s by no means bad pre-say.
Let’s start with the basic plot. The Doctor returns to the Tardis after being taken out of time by the Time Lords. Long time fans will recognize that this story takes place after the events of The Three Doctors, but that matters not. What’s important is that the Doctor returns with an invitation in his hand, with no memory of ever receiving it.
Said invitation lacks any sort of explanation but comes only with time coordinates for Venice in the year 1601 AD. The Doctor and his companions, Steven and Vicki, fear it’s a trap, but the Doctor wants to spring the trap and get to the bottom of this mystery. From there we have a wild romp through the late Italian renaissance with aliens, mistaken identities, and several historical figures.
Now let’s talk about what doesn’t work first. For starters, there are way too many plot threads going on. I wouldn’t say it’s unwieldy, it does all come together in the end, but it’s very convoluted.
As a side effect of this, the inclusion of so many important historical figures feels superfluous and forced. Yes they all have a function within the plot, but it’s nothing that couldn’t have been achieved with mostly original characters to begin with. Rather than enhance the story, they often distract instead, especially William Shakespeare’s ludicrous sub-plot.
Also, and this may just be a personal taste thing, but this really didn’t feel like a ‘missing adventure’. I don’t know what it is with Virgin Publishing and their Doctor Who books, but a lot of the stuff I’ve read from them are too try hard and edgy and would feel very out of place within the show proper. This particular book isn’t the worst offender by far, but it does take you out of the story sometimes. Especially since this is trying to mimic an actual First Doctor story, albeit one that has more sci-fi/historical mash up than was usual for him.
Finally, the characterization for the Doctor and his companions felt uneven. I was told that this was originally meant to be a Third Doctor story and I think it shows. There are definitely times when it feels like the First Doctor is a later Doctor just wearing a First Doctor mask it seems.
Vicki fares a little better, but is given little to do. However I do appreciate that the author is trying to give both her and Steven depth by exploring their respective traumas in a way that just couldn’t and wouldn’t be done on screen. However, Steven feels a little too abrasive... Yeah, I mean Steven was never the most enthusiastic companion, but I don’t remember him being this much a downer. I also don’t think the romance between him and Marlowe really worked. It feels like a scene is missing from their story, one where Steven actual recuperates Marlowe’s advances or something.
So for the good things... It’s well paced. The story trots along nicely and gives plenty of nice details. The character’s who aren’t the mains are well realized. I like that the threat isn’t an alien invasion, but an attempt to sabotage an alien peace conference. I also like that the person who successfully negotiated the peace conference was a human priest who thought he had died and gone to heaven. That was the best twist, but most of the twists were well thought out.
There’s also illustrations!!
Tumblr media
These are so rare in novels! Why? They’re a great thing to have.
However the best thing about thing about this book is Brax.
Tumblr media
For those who don’t know, Irving Braxiatel, known as Brax to his friends, is the Doctor’s brother. He’s also a rouge time lord, but unlike the Master or the Rani, he’s not really a villain. Nor is he always a good guy, but here he is trying to do the right thing and he easily charms his way into the reader’s hearts.
This is my first real encounter with the character, though I had heard of him before. He was named dropped in the Fourth Doctor story, City of Death. The only thing we knew about him was that he owned a massive library and museum. Turns out he’s kind of like the Collector from Marvel, but slightly less of a dick about it... slightly.
Anyways, the expanded universe has since took this one off mention and spun him into an important character who appears in books, audio plays, and even some spin-off cartoons!
Like I said, this is the first time I’ve come across the character, but I shall be rather pleased if he manages to show up again in the marathon. But who can say, it’s all up to the randomizer.
Tumblr media
Oh and does anyone else think this random no-named Time Lord from Terror of the Autons is Brax too?

William Shakespeare mistakes Irving Braxiatel as the younger brother when he meets the First Doctor for the first time.
Of course, Irving Braxiatel assists him in writing Hamlet when Shakespeare sprained his wrist.
