okay yeah i'm so sorry to everyone the cotapepunch post from earlier has made me think about them and i'm not going to shut about these guys for a while i'm so sorry but also not

this is like. extremely long shoutout to anyone who reads this whole thing (also it's pretty sad bc well. you know i'm going to talk about their backstories like you know it's coming. it gets a lot less sad by the end though i promise,,). i'm sorry if some of it does not make sense i did not sleep at all as of writing this

okay so. whenever i mention these guys really i feel like i either just. either feel like i go "hehe yes they are my silly gays and i love them :)" or just like. off-handedly mention the stuff they individually go through but i never really. detail their full dynamic

like. at the very core of it my main two descriptions of this is like when i first came up with it the general premise was "three gay losers/fools dating one of which likes to believe they're the least bad of the others or at least tries to ACT like it but they are just as bad if not worse at times" bc while i liked tapepunch a lot i was like! adding copen to that would be very funny and cute bc of how they are both in canon and how mine is specifically since jp was always meant to be a pathetic asshole who's a complete loser at times,, and it was! but at the same time it's also just. "three guys who are still coming to terms with the struggles of their previous lives genuinely being shitty and having to live with that while trying to support each other to the best of their ability"

(which really. my los' general dynamic can be boiled down to "group of people who all generally had shitty backgrounds to some extent who try to support each other and be the sort of family/support that they never had when growing up" but i mean like this is the other specific dynamic we have going on for cotapepunch in my los)

so like. i've established that these things like the whole multiple deaths, backstories, and hell the whole mind control thing (which i do not go into much detail about since it's sort of hard to explain but at the same time this is like one of the few instances of that thing that i'm comfortable detailing (...iiiitt's mainly just that stuff like that outside of when i personally write it does make me at least a lil uncomfortable <3)) genuinely still affect my los. like these guys never got a proper chance to fully. grasp just how fucked up some of this shit was until post-game au hits because for the entirety of pmtok well! yeah it was pmtok and it wasn't like their lives were exactly the best in their first lives

so for them post-game is finally. when they actually have a genuine second chance at life. and for my cotapepunch this hits them like. very hard

because they've never gotten the chance to really function as a throuple in that kind of setting before! they only really got together in pmtok after a few weeks of getting revived (and there's. reasons for that. both because cotape and tapepunch actually did know each other prior and also bc it at least makes sense to me as to why it happened. kinda quickly or at least from that perspective). and then there's the whole memory loss thing w/ getting revived again and it was. a whole thing. but when they do get those memories back fully and eventually get back together they now have to figure out. functioning while also having to deal with the aforementioned stuff from earlier

and like! these guys are very cute together and they genuinely do love and care about each other but! it is not a perfect relationship at all and like no relationship is perfect but it's like. w/ these guys you can kinda just tell if you live around them for long enough? like it's not very often that it happens but like. they will fight and i mean like serious fighting like this is a fact

because i've at least kinda mentioned it here but like. taniel is a guy who has really bad issues with trusting people after being left to die by his old crew and he genuinely feels like beating the ice vellum will fix all of his emotional issues relating to that (oooh boy and this isn't even. touching on his relationship with his parents like neither are the best). holt is someone who was actively fucked over by xyr family and ended up running away and while xe did get adopted by king shroomses and started recovering from it all, xe was still stabbed in the back and killed by some relatives and even then everything that's happened still sticks with xem hard. jp is literally an ex-soldier who tried his best to protect those closest to him but ultimately failed (robin is the main example but also. a reminder that he was an ex-soldier), and genuinely tried to do the right thing to make up for his past mistakes but ended up just adding to it as well (see: saxen and her father's deaths). and that's not even including pmtok and the fact that my los gijinkas as partners au is in fact part of their canon so it's just. yeah they're still dealing with that

taniel genuinely struggles with trusting people, and that's not excluded to jp and holt. he's genuinely scared of losing people close to him again, and doing something that causes a repeat of the whole crew betrayal thing. he will think that he needs to do something on his own or keep something to himself to protect himself from that, and gets terrified when it backfires on him. holt blames xemself for a lot of shit that isn't even xyr fault, has very little self-confidence in xemself like at all (never outright shows it bc well. sometimes it's easier for xem to act like xe has confidence than be honest), has a lot of nasty thoughts that xe never really says out loud that are partially influenced by how xyr parents raised xem but also just struggling to always see the good in people at times, and also just internalizes anything that's even remotely negative about xem and feels like it's true. jp already struggles with just social interaction in general and purposefully avoids it because they know they aren't good at it and are very much aware of the fact that they're an asshole at times. they know they're really bad with emotions both with themself and figuring it out with other people, so it really does lead them to say things they genuinely don't mean at heart but are really fucking mean at times. and it's like,, they're genuinely trying because they really do care! but they mess up enough to the point where they struggle to see the point in trying to be nice since they often feel like nobody really sees that

so it's like. these guys will end up fighting because of these things and it's like. yeah because while they want to communicate w/ each other more it's like. there are very specific things that these guys won't open up about (taniel's whole motivation to keep fighting the ice vellum, holt being adopted by king shroomses + xyr death, and jp well. y'know. the whole thing with saxen and orrick/her dad). and like for reasons that make sense but like. it'll conflict and it does blow up if it's like a constant thing that one of them refuses to address like taniel constantly fighting the ice vellum

but at the same time i think at the same time. it's also what helps them in a way. because it's like. holt honestly does struggle w/ seeing the good in people at times but like! xe's seen that taniel is trying his best to be better despite his moments of lashing out, and tries his best to make up for them (like this is. especially seen w/ saxen like no joke this is mainly what helped convince jp and holt both that taniel really was trying to change). and when it comes to jp, holt is still obviously hurt by some of the things said but xe notices enough stuff that makes holt feel that jp isn't really that much of an asshole and does try to be nice if you're like. patient w/ them. jp is initially dismissive of his attitude towards the other two but holt keeps Coming Back (and eventually taniel) and it confuses the hell out of him. and while they bond over various things jp tries to consciously filter himself more and understand what he should/shouldn't say around them bc he genuinely doesn't want to hurt their feelings since he's grown close to them and will genuinely apologise if he messes up which is. something he does not do often. taniel genuinely tries to trust his boyfriends a lot more even though it's again. something he struggles with a lot for good reason because he knows they're both trying their best with him and he really wants to be able to give them that same level of trust, or at least honesty

...and then on the lighter side they're just really silly and sweet together sdfgh. like i did just go on that whole tangent yes but i do feel the need to stress that it's something that they really keep private and it's not something that comes up a lot, at least in the case of holt and jp's personal stuff that would absolutely cause Some Shit (or in holt's case xe feels like it will w/ one of 'em). w/ taniel's it's absolutely something they'd be working on for a long while but like! it's a process

like. these guys love pulling pranks on the others at times like especially tapepunch and cotape especially. holt literally tells taniel about some of xyr other demigod powers just so they can go mess with people, and jp and taniel literally recreate the several incidents of jp throwing red paint onto taniel and pretending it's blood. it's genuinely the funniest shit to them both

holt and taniel often get jp into doing more things that she normally would like. never do at all. or just never had the confidence to do really. they take her fishing once and it's the best worst experience of her life. another time they take her out dress shopping and she's genuinely so happy since like. normally jp would just ask robin to make her a dress and while jp really likes the ones robin makes she also wants to go look at dresses on her own time <3

holt usually just watches jp draw and. while she isn't the most used to people just watching her draw she's the most comfortable with holt doing it since when it does talk it's usually to compliment the art sdfg. taniel does sometimes too but he usually just falls asleep on jp's shoulder but she thinks it's cute so <3 (but otherwise he doesn't speak much either like. less so than holt. like if he's around people he knows well enough he's not much of a talker. it's more of a sign of comfort for him really)

sometimes holt and taniel literally just physically fight each other for fun wsdfg. like no reason at all sometimes they do it just because they can.

sometimes holt and jp will take taniel to any sort of aquarium just so he can look at marine plants like. dunno if i mentioned it here specifically but taniel is into marine botany. like he's very awkward about it but his boyfriends know and like. they will use it to their advantage to convince taniel to do smth if possible (ex. "promise me you won't get us banned from another restaurant" "...ehhh" "we can go to the aquarium to look at plants afterwards" "stop bribing me with things you know will work this is so unfair (it's a yes)")

and then like. all of them will cuddle together a lot like holt is already naturally very warm bc fire demivellumental but also. they just like cuddling a lot it's like their go-to when any of them are upset about something

i will end this here bc getting tired but like. cotapepunch my fucking beloved i think about them so much yet don't draw them often nor write about them that often either. i do focus on like taniel and holt the most out of them but like. note that i love the three losers a lot hgfd

I think I know one reason why this summer internship application season is freaking me out so much: there’s literally no information for me to obsess over.  I can’t pore over online forums like I did in high school, the websites literally consist of, like, two to three webpages and those barely hold any information, and I have no idea when decisions are being released.  Like, yeah, it seems like some/most should be out by mid-march, but when even is mid-March?  And why can’t they just give me a date?  I literally am stuck mostly in the dark here and it suuuucks.  So I go back through the webpages every once in a while trying to read in between the lines or find something new that I might’ve missed but, of course, there’s nothing else there for me to find that I haven’t already read three times before.  Whyyyyyyyy do I do this to myself????

Anyway speaking of things that I have little to no control over,,,, y’all know how I can get a little... obsessive passionate when it comes to making and perfecting my schedule for the following semester, right?  Well, I learned that the basics of the schedule of classes are up (professors aren’t finalized though so there’s a chance that some of these could change) and, naturally, I went and checked it out.  Since anthropology is the smallest department I figured that I’d start there (I was right), and I’m glad I did, but there’s one specific class that I want to/have to take next semester (I really hope I don’t get pushed to take sociocultural anthropology because that would not be optimal) to continue with the major, but it’s in such a prime time for classes and it’s only got one section offered so I’m stuck with it.  Anyway I went through my other classes and found that I’m pretty much stuck with one specific section for all of my classes, and I’ll be somewhat screwed if I can’t make it into any one of those.  I’m also thinking about taking a theatre class next semester instead of the english composition class I’d planned bc I feel like it’d just be easiest on me with an otherwise heavy science-based semester, you know?  I do feel a bit more confident this semester now that I’m pretty high in credits, but I know that I still might have to keep a close eye on which seats are open and such.  At least I’ve got a half-decent plan?  Like, it seems as though it will be possible, at least, for me to take all of the classes I want to take, even if the schedule is a bit deadlocked.

Today I’m thankful that I got to watch through CR C2E123 with my dnd-friend!!  It was a lot of fun and we haven’t done something like this in a long time, but we’re thinking about starting to watch episodes “together” on Friday evenings (aka streaming them separately but live texting our excitement, frustration, and fear since we’ll be reaching the same parts at the same time), and that should be fun.  The episode was wild though.  Five and a half whole hours.  Wack.

And, um, I’m thinking about barging into the discord call that’s happening tonight which I haven’t done in weeks because I haven’t been able to work up the nerve.  Gah.  I hate this.  Wish me luck!

I’m gonna go w Tim bc I’ve been thinking abt them (and their friends Albin and Winny) quite a bit lately

Anyway I’m gonna ramble abt how they came to Be since they’re a really important character to me fgdfgfdgd

I’ve had them for a really long time now, I think I made them when I was like 10-11ish?? They started as a Dark R@yman variant oc bc I saw a lot of different designs (a few canon, a few fanmade) and I assumed ppl were just making their own versions and wanted to Join In. Over the years their design and name changed, however naming them “Timothy” came quite early in their development?? It was for this really silly plotpoint in this au/fanfic I was developing at the time, kinda based on the beta for R*yman one where he was a kid named “James”, which could be shortened to “Jim” and bc Tim was an Evil Clone, naming them “Tim” seemed perfect to 12ish yr old me

Anyway back in 2015ish there was this one blog going around and “critiquing” (read: mocking) fancharacters for the series bc you know Cr*nge Culture, and bc of that I got really scared that I’d be the subject of one of their posts so I left the fandom, but since I had Tim for a long time and grew really attached to them, I decided to turn them from a fan character into their Own character and looking back I’m really happy I did

Here’s their Info:

Tim is kinda tall and lanky, about 23 years old, has shaggy purple hair, pale skin, and yellow eyes. Also they have sharp teeth. They’re nonbinary, and use they/them pronouns. They’re almost always seen wearing this old and baggy lavender hoodie that’s a Major comfort item to them

They’re trying to cope with and recover from a shitty childhood, and bc of that shitty childhood they’ve got a Lot of issues. They’re trying to get better though

Among the few times that they’re not seen wearing their hoodie is when they’re at work, at this cafe called Timmy’s (and no, they Do Not own the place they just Work there. Please stop asking they’re so, so tired). They want a different job but currently this is the best they can do atm

Their two best (and only) friends are Winny and Albin. They met Winny through work and found out that she lives in the same apartment building as them, and they met Albin one night after a particularly shitty day at work, where he was in a fight with a few people (and p much losing). Tim ended it and Albin decided that they were friends right then and there. A short while later they became roommates

Tim has also befriended many of the stray cats that roam by their place, they love cats but can’t really keep one in their apartment :/ 

Tim, Albin and Winny occasionally do urbexing bc abandoned buildings are Cool and sometimes they take photos that are either funny, Cursed or both bc those are fun

eliza is australian because phoebe is australian and 1. h2o and 2. she has a terrible american accent and i know this is all fake but i refuse to suspend my disbelief for that long . anyways she was born and raised in melbourne, the only child to an american soldier and an australian flight attendant. some may ask her how that worked out and her honest answer is that she wishes it didn't

she grew up to be a bit of an army brat, not necessarily because they moved around a lot but in the sense that her father's always been pretty strict. there was never a lock on her door, her social and online activities are heavily monitored, she has to say yes sir to her own dad ? this mans got issues ... clearly . for someone like eliza, always a bit inquisitive and rebellious and independent, it felt stifling at best. her mother was no reprieve, either, intent on creating the image of a perfect, nuclear family that often times her pressure was just as suffocating. when her father, one day, decided he missed arizona and took his wife and fourteen year old daughter with him, eliza felt more isolated from the world

so she overcompensated in school to find that control. for her family, her hard work was an indicator of ambition. for her, it was a way to not be inside her house. as debilitating as her family was for her mental health, that level of accuracy and perfection and need for control propelled her to the top of every, if not most things, she did. when she joined the debate club in her high school, i think you can only imagine how freeing it was to finally win an argument and have platform for her own opinions

eliza was supposed to be a politician. but when college and that freedom hit ... she figured her escapades would be best kept secret if she were an attourney. she double majored in business and in law, having degrees in both, and soon became an asset in a major law firm. she'd gained notoreity as a real shark in her firm, but after she won a suit against the team put together for [ redacted celebrity name ], and then another one ... and then another one ... she was recruited to actually work for cadence record's rival label to be a part of the legal team.

she went in for the interview and was extended the offer. instead of jumping at the opportunity, she sat on it ( LIKE A BUSINESS WOMAN ! ) until either a.) they raised their price or b.) someone extended a better offer. it wasn't like she was hiding anything either, so when word got out that the person costing all these record labels hundreds of thousands of dollars could potentially be a free agent ... offers rolled in. she picked cadence because, more than the money and the brand, they offered her something no one else did: at the young age of thirty, she would be in charge of the whole team

Does The Use of Pole Cameras to Surveil a Suspect's Home Violate Their 4th Amendment Rights

In August 2014, law enforcement officers, suspicious of Travis Tuggle’s alleged involvement in drug trafficking, installed the first of 3 cameras (the other 2 being installed in 2015) outside of his home to monitor his activities, notably without a warrant. The cameras, which were eventually removed in March of 2016, recorded over 100 instances of suspected meth deliveries, pick-ups, and more suspicious activity like Tuggle transporting items to a co-conspirator’s residence. After monitoring his behavior and determining that Tuggle’s drug involvement involved the distribution of over 20 kg of methamphetamine, officers obtained warrants and searched Tuggle’s house. Following the investigation, Tuggle was subsequently charged with “(1) a violation of 21 U.S.C. § 841(a)(1) and (b)(1)(A) for conspiracy to distribute, and possess w/intent to distribute, at least 50 grams of methamphetamine and at least 500 grams of a mixture containing methamphetamine, and (2) a violation of 21 U.S.C. § 856(a)(1) for maintaining drug-involved premises.”

Prior to his trial, Tuggle filed a motion against the use of the camera footage, arguing that the government’s lack of a warrant violated his Fourth Amendment rights. However, the district court disagreed, instead arguing that what took place did not amount to a ‘search.’ Undeterred, Tuggle filed twice more for motions to suppress, however, the district court maintained its position against the label of a ‘search’. As the trial loomed closer, Tuggle entered a guilty plea on the condition that he could appeal the denials of his motions to suppress in the future. After being dealt a concurrent 360 months and 240 months sentence in prison for Counts 1 and 2, respectively, Tuggle appealed once more, bringing his case to the 7th Circuit Court.

The 7th Circuit Court’s Decision

The Seventh Circuit Court upheld the lower court’s ruling that the warrantless use of the surveillance cameras in question was not unconstitutional as it did constitute a ‘search’ and therefore could not be in violation of the Fourth Amendment.

For his part, Tuggle argued that his Fourth Amendment rights were violated in 2 ways: first, by the usage of surveillance cameras without a warrant and second, by the prolonged time under the warrantless surveillance (18 months). While Tuggle posed 2 questions of his own, the circuit court articulated an ultimate inquiry of “[w]hat constitutes a search in a digital society whose technology empowers near-perfect surveillance without the need for physical touch?” [2]. To begin to answer this question and indeed to approach Tuggle’s case at large, the circuit court utilized the Katz test to assess if Tuggle had “exhibited an actual (subjective) expectation of privacy” and whether or not that “expectation be one that society is prepared to recognize as ‘reasonable’” [2].  

For the first issue posed by Tuggle, the court was tasked with resolving the question of “Did the Fourth Amendment preclude law enforcement officers from the isolated use of pole cameras on public property without a warrant to observe Tuggle’s private home?” [2]. Tuggle questioned the legality of stationing cameras rather than physical officers, arguing that “[w]hile the ‘fruits’ of the pole cameras could have been achieved by traditional visual or physical surveillance, the use of technology change[d] the reasonableness of the expectation of privacy” [2]. The court’s response to this first question was a resounding no since what was recorded was in public view (there was no fence to shield his yard, nor his driveway – both of which were recorded). Without attempts to cover his property from public view, Tuggle, the court ruled, could not reasonably have had an expectation of privacy. Indeed, pulling from United States v. Knotts, the court cited the Supreme Court’s decision that “Nothing in the Fourth Amendment prohibit[s] the police from augmenting the sensory faculties bestowed upon them at birth with such enhancement as science and technology afforded them” [2]. The cameras did nothing extraordinary – like using thermal imaging to monitor the movement of Tuggle and others inside his residence – but rather they accomplished what could have conceivably been done with physical surveillance in such a way as to increase efficiency and decrease costs, not in one that was unconstitutional [3]. As noted in the court’s decision, there are certainly advantages to utilizing cameras in lieu of stationing officers that can enhance the surveillance capabilities of law enforcement. Firstly, cameras enable recording at all times and such recordings may be brightened to view overnight scenes with greater clarity. Secondly, law enforcement officers could – in real time – manipulate the camera lenses such that they could zoom in on individuals to more accurately identify them. Third, cameras allow for recordings to review in the future that can be especially helpful in not only obtaining (and retaining) evidence, but also in identification capabilities (of people and of suspicious activities). Lastly, and perhaps most importantly though not exhaustively, the cameras allowed law enforcement officers to monitor Tuggle’ residence without their physical positions and thus investigation at large being compromised [3]. Despite their many advantages, however, the cameras were not so great as for their activities to breach a line of constitutionality so as to be deemed engaging in ‘a search.’ Indeed, “the government used a commonplace technology, located where officers were lawfully entitled to be, and captured events observable to any ordinary passerby” [2].  

Concerning Tuggle’s second question of the prolonged surveillance period, Tuggle attempted to apply the mosaic theory. However, the court rejected this, noting that the cameras only captured pieces of Tuggle’s life and daily movements centered around entrances, exits, and deliveries of and to the home rather than tracking his every movement [1].  

As such, the circuit court affirmed the decision of the district court to deny Tuggle’s motion to suppress.

Looking to The Future

In a world in which technology will undoubtedly continue to advance, and as these new developments become incorporated into the average person’s daily life, the extent to which the public may view various surveillance as invasive mechanisms may decrease. With the changing landscape of public opinion, the Katz test – which relies greatly on common thought – may prove less effective in maintaining constitutional constraints and thus individual privacy [1]. Indeed, as the court noted, “Despite its best intentions, this expectations-based Katz test has paved the way for a perilous circularity for new technology,” going on to write, “As long as the government moves discreetly with the times, its use of advanced technologies will likely not breach society’s reconstituted (non)expectations of privacy. The upshot: the Katz test as currently interpreted may eventually afford the government ever-wider latitude over the most sophisticated, intrusive, and all-knowing technologies with lessening constitutional constraints” [2]. A future question may certainly be where to draw the line between what is excessive surveillance and what is constitutional camera (and other technology) usage.

The fight for the preservation of liberties in a technological age could most certainly be challenging without revisiting the Katz test and modernizing standards of ‘searches’ [2]. As for a solution, the 7th Circuit Court suggested potential legislative action(s), for if the decision were to remain at the level of the courts, “[b]arring a transformation in governing law, we expect this chronicle of cameras to repeat itself again and again with the evolution of far more invasive technologies” [2[.

Despite its decision that the camera usage involved in Tuggle’s case was not unconstitutional, the 7th Circuit Court provided a powerful caution towards the interplay between the societal acceptance of technology and the preservation (and even evolution of) Fourth Amendment rights.

steve steve was absolutely walking on air. the weather was amazing and he was enjoying it with the woman he loved. of course, it wasn't a totally perfect afternoon due to his endearing clumsiness. after his second time dropping the venue folder, they decided it was better if peggy carried it instead. other than that, it couldn't have been better. peggy she didn't think it was possible for her to love him anymore. the bold and the brave captain america was stumbling over his own feet and dropping the folder each time he held onto it, papers flying everywhere, which required a ton of chasing. she hadn't laughed more in her whole life, and she was sure she had never been more infatuated with someone in her life. "i know, i do too. i just wanted to look around here to see if it was a backup choice," she explained, craning her neck to glance around.

steve "you know, the first wedding i went to was out here." steve spoke, pointing at the patch of grass by the fountain. it wasn't exactly an enjoyable experience; they hardly knew the grooms and there was quite a bit of drama at the end of the night. he decided to leave out the fact that he brought a date to it. "you would have hated it. it ended in absolute chaos." he laughed quietly, knowing his future bride wasn't one to put up with people's shit.

peggy "oh, dear. maybe we shouldn't have it here, then. i don't want people to be reminded of bad memories when they come here," she said, biting her lip in concern. then she glanced up at him with a teasing smirk. "you know that if anyone tries to start /anything/ at our wedding that i'll deal with them myself." they couldn't exactly hire security; plus, they didn't need any. the groom was captain america, after all. "i don't think you'll let that happen, though," she winked.

"hopefully everyone just keeps their issues to themselves."

rey getting some fresh air was nice, as her dispute with derek was still ongoing, and she felt like she had the opportunity to really clear her mind of everything. until she stumbled across a couple. as soon as she saw the red and blue clothes (did they plan that or did they always just coincidentally dress that way?), she knew exactly who it was. she clenched her jaw but let out a sigh and tried to walk past without her face being seen, tilting it away as much as possible.

steve "trust me, you'll be my wife no matter what. even if it means i have to become a minister and do it myself." he chuckled against her lips, gladly welcoming the kiss. naturally, he got too carried away, wrapping his arms around her waist and stumbling back slightly. he didn't even think about anyone else in the park until he felt his back brush against another person. "oh, geez. i'm sorry about that," the avenger apologized to this person behind him, before he quickly realized who it was. "rey?"

peggy peggy pulled away as soon as steve did, glancing at the person he had, literally, bumped into. uh oh. hopefully he wouldn't be recognized. she smiled apologetically and began to say sorry when steve said the girl's name. peggy's smile faded as she stared up at him, then chuckled softly. "is-is this a friend of yours?" she asked quietly, nervous about the expression on his face.

rey oh, great. clumsy steve, back at it again. she rolled her eyes and turned to him, crossing her arms tightly over her chest. she was sure she looked horrific, given she'd been bedridden for five days, but finally seeing peggy in person for the first time shocked her most of all. she really did look like her. at peggy's question, she just glared up at steve again before firmly replying, "nope."

steve "uh..." he stammered, glancing between rey and peggy. oh god, they looked so much alike he was getting confused. he genuinely did not know what to say. rey and him had a large falling out, sure, but they were so close. they were still friends in his eyes, best friends even. his eyes narrowed at her once she spoke. "no. she's tony's friend."

peggy peggy's shoulders straightened at steve's words, and she stood protectively at his side, hand on his arm. "tony stark is no friend to us. it is obvious that steve doesn't want you around, so i recommend that you keep walking before i have to take action."

rey rey's eyes widened slightly as her expression darkened. now /he/ was digging. this was bad, and was surely not going to end well. she wished she had derek here to back her up. if he even would at this point. "well YOU'RE the one who had feelings for me while you said you were in love with /her/!" she exclaimed, motioning carelessly to peggy.

steve "why don't you tell her." steve looked down at his friend demeaningly, unable to bring himself to repeat her words. "at least i don't have to beg the love of my life to get marry me. i know who i love, rey, and you're sure as hell not one of those people when you act like this." the captain spat, grabbing his fiance's hand. "let's go, peg."

peggy "is that true?" peggy tried to ask steve after rey explained how he had feelings for her. if so... that was shocking. extremely. but at steve's words, she froze. ouch. that was a harsh one. but it was necessary. so peggy swallowed thickly and held on tightly to steve's hand before turning and beginning to walk away with him.

rey no... he couldn't have just said that. had he? he /had/. he didn't love her. once upon a time they were inseparable, spending every day together. first he had used derek against her, and then he outright said he didn't love her. not even as a friend. her hands clasped over her mouth in shock as her eyes fell shut, not even acknowledging them anymore. silently, she began to sob as she slowly crumpled to her knees on the ground, slightly ripping the comfortable pajama pants she had on, decorated with stars. she hated this. she wanted her best friend back.

steve "it was." he admitted swiftly, avoiding her glance. it was before he knew peggy was alive. it was a mistake, all of it was. she had a boyfriend anyway. right as he's ready to turn on his heel, rey falls to the ground in front of them. at first he thinks she's hurt, so he accesses her body quickly until he realizes she's just crying. oh no. was it really that harsh? his jaw clenched as her scene attracted attention from civilians in the park. "rey... just get up, okay?"

peggy "steve," peggy gasped as soon as she saw rey fall to the ground. they were friends at one point; and she knew steve wouldn't want to see his friends hurt. even though it was obvious she was just crying, she knew steve would still want to help. maybe. so she stayed back but watched carefully as he approached her again, hoping things wouldn't get worse from here.

rey rey simply ignored them both, covering her face with her hands and tucking her knees to her chest as she continued to cry. after all they had gone through together... that was what he now thought of her? simply because she was jealous? sure she had said some things that went over the edge, but he knew she hadn't meant them. but his words... he meant each and every one. and she didn't care that he was now seeing her break down right in front of his eyes. she couldn't hide her sorrow anymore. she cried even harder as she leaned forward slightly, threading her fingers into her hair.

steve steve pursed his lips, sending peggy one last apologetic glance before crouching down next to rey. he wish he could comfort her like he used to, but it felt too unfamiliar to him at the moment. "c'mon, rey. get up." he curled his hands around her forearms, making sure to be gently while he pulled her to stand. he meant the words in the heat of the moment, but now he was beginning to regret them. "i didn't mean it, alright?"

peggy peggy nodded her head swiftly as her eyes saddened. she knew he had to take care of this. he needed as many friends as he could get here in magnolia, seeing as they had enough enemies. and she didn't want one friendship to be ruined because of some simple jealousy. she kept some distance, but watched closely with a sympathetic expression as he tried to apologize.

rey "no... no..." rey cried as he, literally, tugged her up to her feet. it took a few moments for her to get a stable stance on the ground, but when she finally did, she began wiping at her eyes as her sobs became almost completely silent. "y-you did- you-..." she tried to say, but only wept harder, wiping at her eyes yet again and trying to move out of his grip. she was beyond humiliated and ashamed now and just wanted to go back inside where no one could see her.

steve the expression on rey's face caused an ache to spread through his chest. "i didn't, i-i swear." he murmured softly, struggling to hold back the lump in his throat. he couldn't believe he let his anger get the best of him and cause this. the last time he saw rey this upset, it had something to do with snoke. she was right, he lost everyone he loved. he always did. he looked back at peggy with forlorn eyes, almost as if he was making sure she was still there.

rey "you /did/, you did," rey sobbed, beating her fist weakly against his chest two times then just crying again. maybe if she wasn't so weak from the concussion, bruised ribs, and all the medication she was on, then she would've run away by now. or maybe she just didn't really want to run away. she wanted to stay, to bring back what they once had. "l-leave me alone," she pleaded anyway, attempting to tug her arms out of his grip, to no avail.

steve he let her hit him once again, her fists rekindling memories from their last fight. "stop, s-stop!" he curled his hands around hers, pushing them away from him. "stop this! stop trying to fight me, rey. i don't wanna fight anymore!" who would have thought, steve rogers, the kid who would fight anything or anyone, begging to avoid a quarrel.

peggy "steve," peggy gasped when he raised his voice, immediately stepping to his side and placing a hand on his shoulder. but she didn't stop him from speaking to her. he wanted this solved, and she didn't blame him. so she let it continue, and would only step in if things got really bad.

rey "then why would you /say/ that to me?" rey sobbed in distress, trying desperately to tug her hands out of his, though, obviously, that was impossible. he surely wasn't even using half his strength and she was using everything she had in her weak body. "y-you don't want to be my friend, you-you don't love me anymore..."

peggy "it's okay, steve. m-maybe we should take this somewhere more private, though," peggy whispered, noting how people were beginning to stare at the three of them. if steve was recognized... the location of the wedding would be the smallest issue.

rey "of COURSE i do! i-... i miss you..." rey admitted, her voice thinning out to hardly nothing as she said it, finally peeking her eyes up to look up into his own. then she sobbed again as she shook her head. "but-but not after you said that. n-no... y-you meant every word... e-every word..."

steve steve nodded, instantly cooling down when he heard her voice. peggy was his happy place. any place, any situation; if peggy was there, he could do anything. "no i didn't, rey." his brow furrowed and his face fell once again. "let's go home, okay? come with us."

peggy peggy held onto steve's arm gently, though he was still holding a fragile rey up. she wondered to herself why she looked so sickly, but kept her thoughts to herself as she led them both inside, and up to their apartment. "i'll get some waters," she offered and stole a kiss when rey wasn't looking before moving into the kitchen to do so.

rey rey didn't want to go to their house, to where the two of them spent their time together. but the stress was overwhelming and she needed to sit down, but she didn't want to go to her home just yet. she still wanted desperately to fix things with steve. she let him practically pull her up the stairs and past the door, feeling too weak to do so at that point.

steve "okay." steve whispered quietly against her lips. he lead rey's weak frame to the couch, passing over the spot where the coffee table used to be. "-uh, are you alright?" he questioned, refusing to let go of the grip on her arm.

peggy "you don't seem too well," peggy agreed, bringing over a glass of water for each of them and setting it on the little makeshift table they had in place of the coffee table. she knelt before them and looked worriedly up at steve, silently asking him what was going on.

rey "yes," rey exhaled as he sat them down on the couch, closing her eyes and bringing her hands to her head. "i... d-derek and i were pushed down a flight of stairs... i hit my head and got knocked out. and bruised a couple of ribs... w-we went to the hospital and now i'm on five different kinds of medication..."

steve steve shook his head at peggy's questioning look. he had no idea what was going on. whatever it was, it was more than just her being upset. she looked horribly fatigued. "what?!" he exclaimed loudly. the floorboards in the house might as well vibrated at his staccato.

peggy peggy's hands came up to her mouth at rey's admission, looking over at steve in shock. oh, no. she knew her steve; and she knew the guilt would hit him /hard/ after this. "i-i'll get some ice," she whispered immediately and jumped up, jogging to the kitchen to get some ice to cool rey down.

rey for some reason, she assumed steve had known about her injuries. but how could he possibly? they hadn't spoken in weeks. "i-i'm sorry, i thought you knew..." she admitted honestly, nodding in appreciation as peggy went to get her ice. then she moved her hair out of the way so steve could see the stitched up gash near her temple, with sweat-soaked bandages covering it.

steve way to go, steve. he felt absolutely terrible for everything at this point. all previous guilt he had was superimposed at her admission. "o-oh, god, rey. i'm so sorry." his gaze fell to his hands, which he quickly retracted from her forearms and placed in his lap. once peggy returned with the ice, he gave peggy his best attempt at a smile.

peggy peggy knelt in front of them yet again as she finished wrapping the bag of ice in a paper towel, giving a small, hesitant smile back to steve. "back of your neck, darling," she said to rey, handing it over carefully. any friend of steve's was a friend of hers. she was choosing to look past their differences, as they obviously wanted to as well.

rey rey shook her head. "i-it's okay, i should've told you..." she whispered, feeling bad that she'd, accidentally, of course, kept him in the dark about it all. it was why she couldn't stand up when he told her to, why she couldn't leave when all she wanted to do was run away. but maybe it helped them reconcile in the end. "thank you..." she whispered to peggy and placed the pack on the back of her neck, leaning back against the couch pillow with a slow exhale.

steve steve instantly sat up from his spot once peggy administered the ice. she didn't need to be on the floor anyways. "i don't blame you." after the whole coffee table mess, who would want to speak to him? he acted like a complete and utter fool in their apartment and in the park. "i'm sorry."

peggy "no, no, no," peggy mouthed reassuringly, shaking her head and helping him to sit again. "you sit, i'm okay." obviously rey wanted, or needed, his support right now, and she was sure he needed hers as well. they had just come back together, after all.

rey rey opened her eyes and looked sorrowfully over at steve, shaking her head gently. "don't apologize, it's my fault too... i-i didn't mean anything i said either, i just wanted your attention again..." she admitted. speaking of... she looked down at peggy sadly. "i-i'm sorry i was so jealous... it led me to do things that i wouldn't usually do. bad things, and it wrecked my relationship with the best friend i've ever had. so i'm sorry..."

steve steve responded to peggy's refusal with a tight lipped nod. "you didn't wreck anything." he murmured with sad eyes. "i shouldn't have got angry when you told me what you did. i acted the same way when you were with derek."

peggy: omg wtf when did u get here

peggy peggy smiled kindly and nodded to rey, gently patting her knee. "it's alright... everything's all better now," she reassured her with a light, soothing tone. obviously she and steve were very close, and it made her sad to think that they'd spent so much time apart because of peggy herself.

rey right... derek. that was a whole other ordeal that she still had to sort through. her eyes closed slowly as she let out a heavy sigh, readjusting the ice pack on the back of her neck. "i don't know what's going on with us now..." she admitted quietly, peeking up at steve again. "i want to be married to him... /so/ badly, but... but he's still not ready yet. and it's been /two months/... we've known each other for three of them... he doesn't understand that i haven't had a real connection with anyone for fifteen years... i don't want to waste anymore time in my life..."
