Fantasy sign language ideas
Common Handspeak: Simple, straightforward, easy to use. Most people know at least a few signs here and there, simply because it's used so much.
Orcish: Blunter signs with more use of wrists. Commanders will often use Orchand for matters of war and strategy, because the orcs have a surprising amount of signs for strategic maneuvers.
Elvish: Elves use not just their hands, but often their whole arms and torsos to communicate, resulting in many memes about elf sign language interpreters. Doing the wave is a sign of comraderie and friendship.
Halfling: Halfling sign is sharp and punctual, with a lot of jabby movements. There is an adapted version of it for signing in the dark, consisting of taps, nudges, and the occasional poke.
Dwarvish: Dwarven sign places extra emphasis on the elbows and head, since signing with hands is difficult while mining. They do not have a sign for the letter 'x', although notably, they have seven hundred unique signs for various types of ores and minerals.
Dragonborn: Dragonborn sign is known as 'Wingsign', because it uses the wings and shoulders along with the hands. It's difficult to use in small spaces or undercover, which is why most Dragonborn use one-handed signs with the other hand acting as the wing.

Shang Simla, day 2

Alice: Hello again! We keep traveling through China.
Catherine: As you remember, we finished our first day in the Resolute Fist Retreat. Today we woke up, cleaned ourselves up and had a light breakfast there.

Alice: After that, we came back to the Martial Arts Academy. There we found our yesterday teacher, and he prepared us for our first Sim Fu sparring.
Catherine: Me and Alice stood in opposite to each other – and then we started the combat!
Catherine: Finally, Alice defeated me with score 2-0! I tried my best, but I could do nothing against her!
Alice: Haha, actually, I don’t think that I’m much better in Sim Fu than you, Catherine! Maybe, the reason is that I had a better sleep today, in the Retreat!
Catherine: It’s true, I got used to better conditions for sleeping than in the Retreat. But don’t be too modest, Alice! You were really good in sparring!
Alice: Oh, thank you, my friend!
Catherine: You’re welcome!

Alice: After sparring, we changed from our Sim Fu uniforms into regular clothes and continued our trip. We arrived at the next location – the ruins of ancient houses. Maybe they belonged to the first people of this terrain.
Catherine: There are many such ruins here in Shang Simla. Most of them are not marked on the maps. But people at the Academy suggested one of these places. Surprisingly, it’s located in the center of the town, not far away from the Forbidden City.
Alice: We found it easily, but little remained of these old houses. We saw just a few remains of walls and one arch. Also, somebody left their old table and dishes here. We’re not sure that these things are as ancient as the walls. Maybe, somebody just decided to decorate the ruins for atmosphere.
Catherine: But we can say that the ground here is as rich in useful minerals as usual. At least, I found an uncut Emerald right there! I think it’s not very expensive, but nevertheless, I’m happy with my finding.

Alice: We finished exploring the ruins and reached our next destination. It’s located nearby and called Han’s Orchand.
Catherine: It’s a beautiful, spacious garden with a pond. Locals grow many different agricultural crops here. Some of them are usual for us, others are more exotic.

Alice: We found the following plants here: lettuce, garlic, bell pepper, potato, tomato, watermelon, cherry and pomelo!
Catherine: The last two aroused our special interest. We decided to taste a pomelo fruit and some cherry berries, especially since the garden is not guarded. It’s open to everyone, and we could taste all the plants here for free.
Alice: Both the cherry and the pomelo turned out to be really mellow and sweet! We enjoyed fruits and berries and then we went to our next goal.

Catherine: We reached the famous sight called the Terracotta Army. As you may remember, we saw its replica before in the Champs Les Sims museum. And now, we are facing the original.

Alice: It’s a gorgeous sculptural composition on top of the hill. There are many ancient figures of Chinese warriors here. Some of them are riding chariots with horses. All of them are made of a special ceramic – terracotta.
Catherine: These warriors were made for an ancient tomb. They were supposed to guard a Chinese emperor after his death. It’s incredible that these figures have survived so well to this day.
Alice: Also, the size of the sculptures is fantastic. They are even taller than humans; we barely reach their shoulders. It’s amazing that somebody put so much effort and skill into it. After all, the masters knew that their sculptures would be buried. Fortunately, now we can see all this beauty.

Catherine: We inspected the Terracotta Army and went to another location nearby. Perhaps, it’s the most famous sight in this country – the Great Wall of China.

Alice: The wall is not so well preserved in our world. Now, it’s not one continuous structure; it’s divided into several segments. And it’s forbidden to climb up and walk on top of the wall.
Catherine: But we didn’t miss an opportunity to take some selfies near the sight! Let everyone know we were there!

Alice: When we finished the photoshoot, we went to our last and main place for today: the Dragon’s Maw.
Catherine: It’s a big dragon-shaped rock with a tomb inside. Our director decided that we had to explore at least one tomb in this town, so that’s why we’re here!

Alice: When we reached the entrance to the cave, we were immediately covered by thick smoke. We don’t know who did this. Maybe it was a technical trick for the entertainment of tourists, or maybe it was really the spirit of the cave.
Catherine: Anyway, the smoke cleared quickly, and we managed to inspect the rock in front of us and find the entrance inside.

Alice: When I pushed the rock in the right place, a mysterious thunderous voice said, “You have gained entry!” Then the stone wall came down with a loud rumble, and we could keep going.

Catherine: We found a small but pretty nice wild garden behind the wall. There was dense vegetation here: a spreading tree, bushes, and flowers. Unfortunately, we had no time to stay there; we needed to go down into the tomb.

Alice: Whoa, how beautiful it is down here!
Catherine: Yeah, it’s good, but let me go further, please.
Alice: Oh, of course! Sorry!

Alice: We found ourselves in a spacious hall with rich traditional decoration. There were even flower beds here! I wonder who takes care of them!
Catherine: Also, there were a lot of statues, like the ones we pulled and pushed in other tombs. I don’t know why so many statues are here. I hope we won’t have to move all of them!

Alice: For now, we haven’t found anything interesting to do here, in this hall. So, we went further, to the next door. After that, we found ourselves in a short corridor.
Catherine: At the end of it we saw a sculpture of Fabu Foo. It’s a traditional Chinese guardian lion. We had noticed some of them before, near the ancient houses of Shang Simla. Near the Fabu Foo, we saw a handful of ancient coins; it was our first find in this tomb!

Alice: So, we passed the corridor and found ourselves in a new room. It was a huge hall with two stone benches near the door. Half of the hall was covered with mats. Maybe somebody has group qigong or meditation training here?
Catherine: If they do, I think such training really strengthens their psyche, because there is a whole wall of fire opposite them! And it seems, we have to get closer to this fire, because we see some levers and statues nearby.

Alice: Take your time, Catherine! I think first we can inspect the safer parts of the hall. I’ll start with the lever behind this bench!
Catherine: Okay, and I'll sit for now and have a bit of rest on the bench!

Alice: Hooray, I’ve unblocked two caches in the wall!
Catherine: Good. So, let’s check what we can find inside.
Alice: Wow, it seems I found a relic! So, let’s see… obviously, it’s an ancient Chinese vase!
Catherine: You’re lucky. The only “treasure” I found in my hole is some low-quality dried food.
Alice: Yeah, it happens… But I’m sure, your turn to find a real treasure will come soon!

Alice: After that, we explored other parts of the hall. On one side, we found a locked door. We tried to open it, but then we realized that we needed a special key.
Catherine: Unfortunately, we haven’t found a chest where it could be. Maybe we could get it in some quest, but we didn’t have time to find out.

Alice: So, we moved to other corners of the room. We found some ancient and modern coins there.

Catherine: And then, we reached that wall of fire. It turned out that it’s not so scary; we could go around it. When we did, I found a gorgeous yellow sapphire on the stone table! Alice was right – I finally got my treasure!

Alice: Meanwhile, I noticed a lever nearby. I needed to push a statue to unblock it. Then I stood on the lever, and voilà, the fire went out! I also opened a new door on our side!

Catherine: Great job, Alice! Now, open the chest in this room — it’s rightfully yours!
Alice: Thanks, Catherine! Well, I see some ancient coins here. I think we have nothing more to do here. So, let’s go back outside!
Catherine: Of course, let’s go!

Catherine: Well, are we going?
Alice: Yes, I’m coming now! I’ll just grab a few more ancient coins. I noticed them in that corner!
Catherine: Mmmkay, I’m waiting for you.

Alice: So, we retraced our steps and went out of the Dragon’s Maw. We discovered that it was already late evening. Now the eyes of the Dragon were shining red. But it wasn’t scary, rather mysterious.

Catherine: We had to think about an overnight stay. Fortunately, the cave is very close to our base camp; we only needed to cross the river. Suddenly, we easily caught a motorboat taxi, although regular land taxis are forbidden here.

Alice: Here we are! Wow, how dark is it in our base camp at night!
Catherine: Yes, and it’s so quiet here! Well, let’s go to bed – I’m tired as hell!
Alice: Of course! Let’s get ready for our last day in China! Good night, Catherine!
Catherine: Good night, Alice – and to our dear viewers! See you soon!

movement seven
two years later
If you were a girl with many hopes and aspiring dreams, would you chase after this even if you forget the face of the person you hold important? In (Name)'s case, she was torn between these two but of course she had chosen to go after her future because that is what her parents expected her to do as the next heir of their fruit orchand.
Just within a year, (Name) had found strength in remembering Yoriichi's words and his face but day after day, his face would fade out of her mind as she grew busier and acted more like how a heiress would be. She can only remember a ominous mark, earrings, and the eyes of lonesome man.
(Name) was now swamped with more of her work, she had reached out to more villages from outside their own place to deliver and sell more fruit which was an outstanding feat for her, her father cried proud tears when he found out his daughter was becoming a grown woman. Nevertheless, (Name) never failed to deliver the fruits in her own neighborhood including the Kamados.
But even with the endeavors she reached, the condition of her body was getting worse. Her coughing fits happened more often and she gets tired more quickly. Her concerned mother asked the helpers, Chiyo and Yana, to deliver the fruits on her behalf on most days. (Name) couldn't visit the Kamados and their daughter as she would usually do.
"Nee, (Name), the fruit caravan sale three days from now, whose going to be guiding the horses? Obviously it's not going to be you." Chiyo chuckled as she wiped her hands on her apron after putting down a basket full of fruits. (Name) was sitting on a stool, carefully packing fruits in small baskets with recycled papers on top.
She gave him a small pout then smiled, "Father will. It seems like it's just going to be me, father, Yana, and you whose going. Mother will be left to stay in the house."
"Oh! I didn't know I was included!" She grinned, "This is going to be my first fruit caravan with you, (Name)!"
"Me too...oh, wait, this is my first very caravan..." She mused then looked at her, "What do you usually do...?"
"We sell along the road and then drop by other villages that we usually don't go to sell. I think the longest time it takes for a travel is three days if we have stop overs, two days if we don't stop by in villages." She said, "Sometimes it's dangerous because of bandits and demons but thank the gods your father always has wisteria charms to keep the those vile creatures at bay."
Chiyo was then called over to the kitchen by (Name)'s mother, leaving the girl alone to her work. (Name) started to wonder if the sales on the caravan will be better if she was there. (Name) finished up packaging the fruits and put them in a basket.
"(Name), come eat lunch first before you head out. And you're carrying so much! How many times do I have to tell you that you should only carry half!" Her mother appeared by the archway to the kitchen, holding a bowl of greens.
"Ahahah..." She laughed nervously, slipping off the basket from her back, "I was hoping you wouldn't catch me..."
(Name) put down the bag and followed her mother to the dining room where her family was gathered. Her father was already there, as well as Chiyo and Yana who just came back from peeling oranges.
The small family ate in silence and after that, (Name) went back on track to do deliveries. And as always the last was the Kamados. She went there as slowly as she can so she doesn't stress her body and by the time she got close to the top, exhausted was now an understatement.
She hasped out short breaths then plopped down on the ground then her eyes caught a flame dancing at the side with Suyako and Sumiyoshi and her two kids watching. No, it wasn't a flame.
It was Yoriichi.
He was dancing but in reality, he was doing sword movements of his and Suyako cheered and clapped for him as he showed off how they're done. Sumiyoshi was entranced by it. (Name) stared at the brilliance of the man who had gone out of her life for two years. And he was till dazzling as ever.
Like the dying flame in her heart, it immediately set into a bigger flame, warming her chest and her face.
"Tsugikuni-san..." (Name) mumbled out, slowly standing up and dusting her hands while her eyes never broke contact from his dance. She moved closer, the Kamados not minding her as she did watch with them. Yoriichi didn't stop. There seemed to be twelve kinds of movements and all together Tahy can be counted as thirteen.
Her heart was so fragile when it came to him. She was sure her so called love towards him was gone in the span of his disappearance yet here he was and her heart beat fast and the shine in her eyes were greater. What did this man cast upon the poor young girl who only yearned for him?
"Wasn't that beautiful, (Name)-chan?" Suyako asked. Yoriichi was finished dancing, he was looking at her. His eyes was the same as ever, unreadable, indifferent, deep, and warm. (Name) stared back at him, her words stuck in her throat.
This man has made her weak for him.
"Uhm, (Name)-chan...?" Sumiyoshi asked, concerned she had her mouth open but wasn't saying anything. She snapped out of it.
"Eh! Ah, yeah! It was very beautiful, Tsugikuni-san...!" She said, clasping her hands together. the said man lowered his head, embarrassed by the compliment, "It was like a dance." She said dreamily.
"Right, right?" Suyako agreed with her, then turned to the samurai, "Since you're here and she's here, stay for a while and eat fruits with us!"
"I apologize...but I have somewhere to be." He said, surprising the three. (Name)'s heart fell. Why was he leaving so fast?
"Oh, that's too bad." Sumiyoshi frowned then he looked back at him, "Can I have a minute with you though?"
Yoriichi blinked and nodded, the two males went somewhere to the side. That's when (Name) realized that Yoriichi's eyes were quite swollen. She went up to Suyako whom she knew was a chatterbox.
"Suyako-san, did Tsugikuni-san cry?" She asked straight to the point. Suyako hummed.
"Yes, he was crying." She said, lifting her daughter Sumire "I wish you were here earlier. Maybe you could have comforted him earlier but thanks to my baby, Sumire, she solved the problem!"
"...What was it about?" She asked.
Suyako's smile fell and she became serious, "...As you know, Yoriichi-san came from a very rough path and as a samurai that slays demons, he has experienced more pain than all of us combined..." She said, softly then looked at (Name), "Yoriichi lost his wife and unborn child. He was kicked out of his own place from the demon slaying corps, and his...brother turned into one of those he kills."
She froze. She couldn't say anything. Her eyes slowly went to the man in question. She doesn't understand him at all. She thought she did but she did not. He has walked more paths when she only walks one kind of path that was fixed for her since the day she was born. He is fields away from her and she was just there.
Her chest hurt at the realization., at the realization that this man whom she thought was living the best of his life just because he was a samurai, was actually suffering so much. Yet he still managed to be so kind, so warm like the sun. If it were her, she would have turned cold and numb and wish to the gods she were dead but no, he was there standing so humbly.
Tears fell from her eyes and Suyako gasped, shocked, "E-eh! (Name)-chan, what's wrong?" Like how a mother would react, Suyako wiped the young girl's tears and comforted her that it'll all be better. It will all be alright.
But was he alright?
