Hello,
I'm an adult fiction author—fantasy and contemporary fantasy—and my debut fantasy releases May 28, 2024.
I initially got the idea for SOUL-BOUND in early April 2017, wanting to explore how a winged character would navigate their world without flight. But I didn't truly start writing it until January 2019 and now I'm finally pursuing publishing it!
Here's the gorgeous cover! Illustrated by the wonderful @oxiente, who has drawn Mika and Roshan a lot for me over the past few years. I'm really grateful that she took on this project. She delivered beyond my expectations! There are so many cute details! 🥺

PITCH
When a tsundere princess with healing magic loses her flight during her quest to heal corrupted crystal roots, she must depend on a charming vagabond's aid to help her before their avian world collapses to corruption.
SUMMARY
Avem, a continent inhabited by bird-like humans called Avians, consists of seven territories, each of which contains a crystal root: a treelike sanctuary preserving magic. Avians cannot wield the land’s magic themselves.
Except, Mika, the princess of Passíer. However, her father forbids her to use it out of concern for her safety.
Due to the expanding corruption from Cantio; a fallen territory under Passíer’s jurisdiction because of its damaged root, Zayn the militant king of Nyx, suggests Scorching Cantio. To avoid such a catastrophic outcome, Mika flees from home, determined to heal Cantio’s root herself.
In Cantio, she meets Roshan, a vagabond playing double agent to protect what’s left of his uncorrupted homelands. Upon noticing her pink feathers, unique for her specific species, he cautions her to leave before she’s captured and used as coin. She snubs his warning and is nearly taken captive.
During his efforts to help her, Roshan is wounded. Mika heals him with her magic, unintentionally and unknowingly bonding them together.
When the quest costs Mika’s wing and grounds her, she accepts Roshan’s offer to escort her across Avem to heal the damaged roots before corruption destroys their world.

When seeking commercial success with writing you need to be realistic. Just because something shouldn’t be the way it is doesn’t mean you can ignore that reality.
What I mean:
People do judge a book by it’s cover, unless you’re talented and have done your research it will negatively impact you not to pay a professional.
Marketing a book isn’t about how good your book is. It’s an entirely different skillset you’ll need to pick up whether you get indie published or traditionally published.
If you’re writing something niche you can’t expect the marketing advice of people writing and selling something with wide scale appeal to work for you. You’ll need to find a way to advertise directly to the communities that surround your niche.
Bigots read and buy books.
Publishing a book is fucking expensive but cutting corners is quickly noticeable.
Publishers don’t take as many risks as they should, they’re increasingly letting indie authors take risks and prove that certain types of story can make it. You might have to wait for someone else to prove your kind of story works in the indie space to get any traction in the trad space.
I doubt any of these really surprise anyone. But anytime something is unfair or wrong in publishing whether indie or trad I see a lot of writers say something like ‘well people shouldn’t judge a book by it’s cover so I’m making my own anyway’ as if saying that somehow changes reality. Let’s be realistic but hopeful and defiant as we head into 2023. Like the pragmatic side character who’s with the hero till the bitter end.
(Also how else are we meant to judge your book in a sea of others, when there’s so many that picking one off the shelf or clicking on to see the blurb is a decision of itself??)

— 𝓌𝓇𝒾𝓉𝑒𝒷𝓁𝓇 𝒾𝓃𝓉𝓇𝑜 (2024 edition)
Tumblr media
— who are you & what do you write?
🌹Vanessa | Canada | 20's. I write and occasionally can be convinced to draw. I also do professional copyediting and line editing (details over here).🌹
Fantasy is my poison of choice. I favour slow-burn, character-heavy fantasy, where I can build cultures, religions, and plenty of spike-filled pits to shove my characters into. My characters are often some flavour of LGBT+.
I like a light touch of romance and a dusting of moral ambiguity and a fair share of blood. I'm a newbie to the whump community but my stories often lean that way!
I got my start in fanfiction and sometimes I wander back there. My AO3 backlog is full of Vocaloid and Drakengard, while I'm currently writing a few Genshin Impact fics.
— what's on this blog?
I mainly use it to collect inspirational art or photographs, people's jokes and helpful thoughts about writing, and resources/references. I want to make it a more personal space, though, where I can share more about my work and process.
— sweet, what can i read right now? [ all links ]
🌹Deep Roots (Realmweaver I), my debut series. It follows Irving, a half-elf who just can’t stay on the right side of Elvish law. They take a risky job to steal from a palace to get out of their current predicament…and wind up getting tied up in the games of the gods instead. [ Amazon or Kobo ]
🌹Other People’s Heartache, a 21k exploration of an arrogant magical medic and his sister, the illegal magic that ties them tightly together, and the cursed royal woman who will tear them apart. [ Ko-Fi or Kobo ]
🌹Ballad Underfoot, a 9k retelling of Orpheus & Eurydice with the genders swapped, and make Hades the Unseelie King. [ Ko-Fi ]
🌹In Bloom, a bloody Sleeping Beauty retelling where a prince well-versed in travelling between fairy tales is caught by a monstrous princess, intrigued by his memories and the world beyond her tower that they show her. [ In the Once Upon a Blade anthology ]
🌹I Unlocked the Villainess's Romance Route!!, an ongoing F/F serial where a fandom-famous fic writer falls into the otome game she's obsessed with. Instead of flirting with the bachelors or training in magic, she's determined to save the life of the villainess--even when a murder mystery from the game's cutting room floor starts to haunt them. [ Royal Road or ScribbleHub ]

Fantasy sign language ideas
Common Handspeak: Simple, straightforward, easy to use. Most people know at least a few signs here and there, simply because it's used so much.
Orcish: Blunter signs with more use of wrists. Commanders will often use Orchand for matters of war and strategy, because the orcs have a surprising amount of signs for strategic maneuvers.
Elvish: Elves use not just their hands, but often their whole arms and torsos to communicate, resulting in many memes about elf sign language interpreters. Doing the wave is a sign of comraderie and friendship.
Halfling: Halfling sign is sharp and punctual, with a lot of jabby movements. There is an adapted version of it for signing in the dark, consisting of taps, nudges, and the occasional poke.
Dwarvish: Dwarven sign places extra emphasis on the elbows and head, since signing with hands is difficult while mining. They do not have a sign for the letter 'x', although notably, they have seven hundred unique signs for various types of ores and minerals.
Dragonborn: Dragonborn sign is known as 'Wingsign', because it uses the wings and shoulders along with the hands. It's difficult to use in small spaces or undercover, which is why most Dragonborn use one-handed signs with the other hand acting as the wing.

Hello, Writblrs!
Tumblr media
Hey, everyone! After lurking around writblr for a bit I'm going to give jumping in a try. If it looks like I don't know what I'm doing it's cuz I don't.
I'm Cam, and I write mostly fantasy, usually with some fluffy romance thrown in. Definitely lots of queer characters, though that's hardly a surprise on here. I get lots of inspiration from fairy tales and myths, especially stuff with the fae, witches, gods, and magical animals.
My favorite authors are Marissa Meyer, Jim Butcher, Robin McKinley, N.K. Jemisin, Heather Blake, and Anne Rice. If anyone has book recs I'd love to hear them! Especially queer fantasy with wlw and nonbinary characters in the main cast. I feel like my own taste is kind of going stale at the moment...
What else? I like to play video games, especially Hades, Pokémon, Slay the Spire, Inscryption, Hollow Knight, Dark Souls, and all the LoZ games. I'm finally finally finally learning how to play the Pokémon card game after all these years lol.
Tumblr media
But enough about me, I want to hear from you guys! My dash is empty, so I need writers to follow! Especially if you write:
Sapphic or wlw fantasy, but any queer fantasy in general
Vampires (don't judge me pls)
Strong platonic relationships as well as romance
Deities as characters who interact with the human ones
Have cool creatures or lovable animal characters
Funny dialogue
Anything really--part of why I'm here is to improve and broaden my horizons!
I'm totally open to asks and tag games!
Tumblr media
So I only really have one atm. It's called Girlfriend of the Gods. A silly title I know but it's a pretty silly story.
It's a Cinderella-type tale about a girl who doesn't fit in and accidentally gets the attention of the goddess of death and her brother the god of wind by making a wish. It's got a magical shapeshifting chameleon and an evil book. See? Silliness. I'll get around to making a proper introduction for it if anyone's interested.
That's pretty much it. I look forward to meeting people and making some friends to grow along with.
