do you have any suggestions for good like. devotional reading? like those kinds where you read a bit of the bible or something a day for x amount of days? specifically i wanna find smth to read during lent but i just am looking for smth where i wont be hit with something queerphobic midway thru - bible studies / devotions frm a queer/ leftist / nd perspective wld be incredible but ive no clue if they even exist
Hi hello yes, totally! there's an app called Our Bible App that's full of fabulous stuff made by and for marginalized folks, including a lot of queer folk + BIPOC. A lot of it is free, including some Lenten material; and there is more if you pay for a subscription.
Other Lenten devotional suggestions:
Queering Lent by slats toole — One poem per day of Lent, plus a sermon in the back. Literally like one of my fave collections of poems ever. You can read some poems from it in my tag here, or buy the book on amazon. .
Ashes to Rainbows: A Queer Lenten Devotional, all free online — not daily, but there's one reflection for each Sunday of Lent, plus every day of Holy Week. .
Disabling Lent — same idea as the previous, but through a disability lens rather than an LGBT/queer lens. .
And this year, the same folks who made the previous two devotionals are putting out weekly reflections from a mujerista perspective (Latina feminist theology), in Spanish with translations into English! .
O Beautiful Dust: Walking the Wilderness Towards Common Prayer by RW Walker — book with a prayer for every day of Lent. The author is gay, autistic, and has ADHD and cerebral palsy. Also he's just pretty fun and cool :) I'm actually the narrator of the audiobook for this!! i know the ebook and print editions are out; if the audiobook isn't it should be any day now.
Anyone else have recommendations for anon for devotionals (for Lent or in general) that are LGBTAQ affirming / leftist / liberationist?

Religion vs. Spirituality
Crystal Cheatham is a writer, worshiper, and creator of the new and fantastic Our Bible App. With a story like many of our own, Crystal journeyed out of conservative Christianity and began exploring what faith looks like outside of the narrow worldview of her upbringing, and brought her into the clusterfuck that is second adolescence. In this conversation, we dive into the nuance that is religion…

“Sometimes rainbows don’t look like joy. “Sometimes rainbows are just reminders that it is still raining. “Rainbows are promises made in the middle of thunderstorms. When the sun hits the wave of water and shines through it, we get a glimpse of future redemption. “But for now? It’s still raining. “On the other side of this rainbow promise is a feast that you can’t imagine, joyfully cluttered up with young and old and women and men and interxex people, every sexuality and nation and race and denomination and religion. As C.S. Lewis says, when we get to that Feast and look around at who is at the Table – there will be surprises. Thank God for that.” _______________________________ Good news, good weather, good company. a rainbow hammock and an excerpt from “Queer Christian Grief,” a devotional written by @laurajeantruman for @ourbibleapp https://www.instagram.com/p/CHUV_yxnzjE/?igshid=6oox9m5eyipq

@Regrann from @ourbibleapp - Since 2001, Trey Pearson's (@treypearson) "Everyday Sunday" has sold around a quarter of a million albums, and his 2009 album made its way onto the coveted Billboard 200 chart. He has toured in all 50 states and 20 countries, playing with top Christian musicians such as Toby Mac (@officialtobymac), Switchfoot (@switchfoot), MercyMe (@themercyme), Jeremy Camp (@jeremycampofficial) and others.⠀ ⠀ Not that long ago Trey came out as a gay man to his fans. He shared his story of knowing he was gay at a young age growing up in a conservative home and how after many years came to a realization that “There is absolutely no conflict with accepting who I am and following Jesus,” he said. “God wants me to be healthy, authentic, whole, integrated and my truest self.”⠀ ⠀ “I definitely know how hard it was on my journey to be able to accept myself, and how other people’s voices and stories helped me. So I absolutely want to be a voice for other people,” Pearson says. “I know there are more and more Christians that realize how important this is, and I hope I can join with them in seeing this change.”⠀ ⠀ Our Bible App is so enthusiastic to have Trey as a partner because Trey's inspiring yet vulnerable message is what inspired the idea that sparked Our Bible App's inception. ⠀ ⠀ #treypearson #everysunday #musician #christian #lgbt #inspiration #motivation #gay #spiritual #faith #christianity #motivationalmessage #tobymac #switchfoot #mercyme #jeremycamp #app #partner #believersofallstripes #ourbibleapp - #regrann

hi, I'm not sure if this is a good place to send this, but I'm really scared of the thought of hell. I'm nb and bi, so there's one fear, but I have a lot of dear friends that arent religion. I don't want them or myself to go to hell, but I cant shake the thought.
Hey there dear, I really feel for you. So many branches of Christianity, so many churches and preachers, use hell as a fearmongering tool to threaten people into behaving the way they claim God wants them to behave.
But the Jesus who spread Good News to the poor, the God who brings justice to the oppressed throughout scripture, the Holy Spirit who whirls through and renews the world – this God of ours is not about fear. This God is a God of love, who desires a reciprocal, eternal relationship with all of us.
My personal belief is that if hell is real (and I’m not so sure it is), it’s not all that crowded – because God does all They can to bring us into their joyful new world. If hell is real, it is not a punishment of some kind, and its doors are, as C. S. Lewis says, “locked from the inside.”
See my hell tag for more musings on hell, including this post on atheists and heaven.
Finally, for your fear that people might be right and being LGBT+ is a sin – even if it does turn out they’re right (and I very very firmly believe they are wrong), I think the God of love will have mercy on us.
Pray for God’s help in discerning who you’re called to be, and maybe read works from my resources page, or listen to podcasts like Queerology and Theology Live, and follow queer Christians who talk about how God loves their queerness on twitter (such as Broderick Greer, Emmy Kegler, Austen Hartke, Eliel Cruz, Avery Belyeu, M Barclay, and OurBibleApp) , so that you can keep learning more about just why so many LGBT+ folks testify to being loved by God and glorifying God as they are.For me, it’s all about good fruit – I bear good fruit for God when I live into my queerness, and bad fruit when I try to repress it.
Hang in there and know that God loves you, no matter what! Lean into God’s protective embrace and know that you are safe.

Regrann from @ourbibleapp - "All of us who are openly gay are living and writing the history of our movement. We are no more - and no less - heroic than the suffragists and abolitionists of the 19th century; and the labor organizers, Freedom Riders, Stonewall demonstrators, and environmentalists of the 20th century. We are ordinary people, living our lives, and trying as civil-rights activist Dorothy Cotton said, to 'fix what ain't right' in our society." - Senator Tammy Baldwin #pride #lgbt #pridemonth - #regrann
