And the other is unfortunately fully ready to back up every single bluff without a second thought once given the okay to kill... Shockingly the one ready to murder isn't the prison escapee.

My main focus in art is almost always towards my Oc's and stories that I am working on behind the scenes (theres over 5 I'm working on!). But I do like to draw/animate the occasional fanart for fandoms I'm in!

I have an Associates in Animation as of 2024 and am in university for a bachelor's degree in Computer Science

Saturn + Jupiter:  the world/universe + the wheel of fortune (part 1)

With the Saturn/Jupiter conjunction happening on the 21st (in just a few days), we thought it might be useful to think about the cards that correspond to those planets: the World or Universe, depending on the deck, for Saturn, and the Wheel of Fortune for Jupiter.

At first I laid out those cards pulled from five of the decks I own: the Muse deck, the Anima Mundi deck, the Dreamweaver, the Wild Unknown, and the Hermetic Tarot. Pictured below.

I was immediately struck by how un-like and a-like the cards were, though they all had alignments, within and across decks. For instance, the reflexive circularity of the cards in the Muse and Dreamweaver decks--and the chaotic aspect of the Wheel of Fortune cards in both the Wild Unknown and the Hermetic decks. The "chaos" (in the Wheel of Fortune cards) is organized in the Muse and Dreamweaver decks, while, for instance, the Wild Unknown WoF card seems to have no organization at all. In fact, instead, it looks something like a knitting project that has been attempted without regard or care for instructions.

With these "differences" in mind, I then thought it would be helpful to turn to the oldest deck I own: the Grand Jeu de l'Oracle des Dames deck from 1870. Pictured below.

It actually took me a second (and some research) to figure out which of the cards from that deck corresponded to the World and the Wheel of Fortune that we are most familiar with. The latter was rather easier, but the former was, for some reason, a surprise. Though, upon discovery, was immediately clear, except the figure, in this deck, in the center of the ouroboros is a man, not a woman.

(Notice, too, how the figure in this Wheel of Fortune card, which actually translates to "The Makeshift Wheel," might remind us of the blind-folded ladies in the Two of Swords and Justice cards of the Waite-Smith deck!)

This then gave me the opportunity to begin a side-project I've been thinking about starting ever since I purchased this French deck a handful of months ago: translate the guidebook (which is, of course, in French). Below are the translations for the Saturn and Jupiter cards (thank you, Apple, for including a translation app in your recent software update for the iphone!).

Though the World is card number 21 of the major arcana in contemporary decks, it is #5 in the Etteilla deck and is translated as "the man and the quadrupeds":

"The naked man in the middle of the round indicates that the truth is on the earth [that the figure's club is lowered/leant upon] proclaims you general peace. The attributes of the four evangelists around the circle of the earth are signs of wisdom. This card predicts you happiness, courage, battles won."

According to A QABALISTIC TAROT: A TEXTBOOK OF MYSTICAL PHILOSPHY by Robert Wang, The Wheel of Fortune represents "Riches-Poverty" while the Universe (World) card represents "Power-Servitude."

In thinking about these "definitions" and looking at the cards pulled from the different decks, I am most drawn to the dichotomies presented in the Wild Unknown and Hermetic decks.

In another post (on the 21st), I will engage these particular decks in a further conversation about Jupiter and Mars and their upcoming conjunction to see what deeper/meaningful narratives we can generate to help us understand what the cards and the cosmos want to tell us.

ACTUAL DESIGN CONCEPT ART??

This turned out wayyyy better than anticipated and is way closer to my vision than expected so I am excitedly posting it.

The design for Ouroboros!Dream is far from set in stone but this sets the tone well, he's serpentine and almost unnatural looking in a lot of aspects which is entirely intentional and a byproduct of being created as a personal pawn by a deranged might as well be god.

As you can also see in these sketches I haven't quite figured out which mask option to go with, though it will most likely be the half-mask (top half edition) or the full mask since the reason for it is due to that nature of his eyes - which are alarmingly similar to those of the Dragonbite Viper and well many dragons aren't exactly just comfortable with that.

Additional fun notes:

The "blade" on his tail is effectively a malformed stinger, it lacks any venom or toxin but can be used as a weapon along with the spines along the end of the tail.

He can in fact produce silk! There is Silkwing in his ungodly combination of "genes".

While his colors do not shift with his emotions in the same way a rainwing's do, he can shift through shades of green to darken/lighten his scales either to display emotional state or to provide camouflage in the right environment. He works kinda like a lizard, so his scales get darker/brighter when pissed off.

-"I wonder..." Ouroboros hummed to themself as they lifted their talon, watching as the Dragonbite Viper coiled around their arm to remain on it's false branch. Their gaze narrowed almost critically as an idea came to mind while they watched the serpent. A solution.

They had learned that the dragons that came to their land were less than inclined to interact with them. The others were bitter and aggressive even if their attacks did little to scathe the animus who kept them trapped to this land. Not to mention that interacting directly also messed with the story, the art form, they were supposed to WATCH from the shadows cast by the stage lights, not to be blinded by them like the common wyrms who stood beneath them. No. They were the director. So, they needed an actor, their personal pick to guide the story where it needed to go, something that the dragons would respond to... And this little viper would be the key.-

This time featuring Gild (cpunz) of the icewings and the current design for csapnap, leaning towards calling him brimstone atm.

Sapnap is a Skywing-Nightwing hybrid and I'm working on the details but he technically has a form of less extreme firescales!

I honestly love the dynamic between these two and that they're sort of foils to one another especially later in the story.

The stage lights blind the performers, so one can never see the thousands of eyes that watch from the dark nor the mishaped and unholy being that dwells beyond the mortal plane which the eyes belong to. It is the single observer, the watcher and writer of the tragedies who had long since succumbed to madness, but even those forgone in the mind still enjoy a good show.

So I haven't talked about XD much in Ouroboros, but god does he play a vicious role also he is just several degrees of fucked up. Animus magic madness going on for a good half century leads to becoming some biblically accurate angel type shit :]

Anyways, I will for sure be discussing his role and his connections to Dream in another post but for now enjoy the potential design sketch ^^

There's something to be said about trusting a snake not to bite versus being able to tell when they are going to bite. Sure you can trust a snake, disregard it's boundaries, poke and prod and ignore every sign till it's too late - the snake bites. You trusted the snake and harassed it, believing it wouldn't strike and defend itself from the annoyance. It tried to warn you, it tried to flee but you didn't listen but you blame the snake cause you trusted it, how could it bite you if not out of malice. Or, in an opposite light, you can pay attention to the signs, you can tread carefully and watch the snake- respect it and know the warnings, leave it alone when it wants to be free and you most likely won't get bit. Just something about pushing people and ignoring their attempts to warn you, then acting like they're the problem when you were the one who didn't pay attention, but I did and look at me, I'm the only one who isn't bitten. I'm the only one who understands.

Quickish Sketch of Gild and a Dragonbite viper, and some additional symbolism writing :]

Gild definitely develops a sort of fondness for Dragonbite vipers, finding them along the way and occasionally within the land of Las Nevadas - They take the time to move them, to learn to read them so he doesn't get bit. Dragons say he has some way with the lethal serpents, when in reality he simply knows how to read them. It's nothing special, he simply understands them and most importantly doesn't see them as inherent monsters for having a deadly bite. After all, they bite in defence, it's not the snake's fault they had to bite to protect themselves - whether the threat was real or not is irrelevant, if a dragon gets bit they most likely provoked it. Snakes don't just bite.

Anyways, yeah I am 100% using Dragonbite vipers to play with symbolism especially with Dream (CDream's name doesn't change for this au) and Gild, so expect so much of it.
