Not many cherry blossoms open yet at the spot where I ate, but lots of sakura mochi!🌸 Before dessert, though, we have cute heart-shaped tonkatsu, a favorite Haikara recipe of Mitsuri's! One of the cutlets has some plum flavor, as does the pink soumen, so my tongue can have the same kyun-kyun experience as my heart getting squeezed and excited!💓 In addition to the sweet konpeito and heart-shaped strawberries, there's also some celery with stocking-like stripes.✨ Among Japanese children celery has a bad reputation for being bitter, but true love can sometimes be bitter!!💖 There's also men-tsuyu for the soumen in a fish shaped container because it's a pun on Koi-bashira!😍 And some tonkatsu sauce just in case, it might make a bit of a mess, but surely Mitsuri doesn't mind! You know! She doesn't mind if something might be considered a little dirty or tainted! That goes for potential future soulmates too, you know, just saying!!!💕💓💖

Since Mitsuri ate a whopping 170 sakura mochi in one day, it's likely that she was engaging in 'tabekurabe' (eating and comparing), and it's easy to see how she could get carried away. After all, each wagashi shop will have their own take on the traditional confection, and while you of course want to get some of the famous ones, you're always curious about the smaller shops too. And then for each one, you can choose to eat it with or without the leaf, so that's two of each, and since the Kantou crepe style ones are so different from the Kansai doumyoji style ones, you want to try a good variety of both, and then sometimes you just wind up spotting ones that are super cute spins on the traditional looks and you wind up wanting to take those home too, and while you're looking around at where a bunch of different shops' goods are on display maybe you munch on a few absentmindly and then forgot to actually pay attention to the flavor so you need to buy replacements and then you can't remember which shops those ones came from so you buy from them all again just in case, as well as ten or so extra to eat right away so you don't make the same mistake, and maybe you meant to share with loved ones whom you're visiting the following day, but then you notice that they're all supposed to be eaten on the day you purchased them, and you can't stand to let them go to waste, so...

To be clear, I did not eat 170 sakura mochi, I only ate five. Not seven, the bear filled with sakura-an and the sakura-an yatsuhashi technically don't count. I meant to only buy three sakura mochi from shops I picked out in advance, but one of the pick-ups was in a department store where there were lots and lots of other cute looking sakura mochi on sale, so...
