I'm not... entirely sure how I feel about the new reveal in Ultimate Spiderman. Like, on one hand S P O I L E R S... I think it's really cool that Mysterio isn't just quentin beck, but... a super secret organization of people who pass (?) the mantle down and Gwen Stacy is a relatively new member. And they pass around the Mysterio powers.

On the other hand.... I feel like we're steering too far away from the initial premise of the new ultimate universe. This might be me projecting too much, but I thought this was supposed to be very similar to 616, but everyone's future got meddled with by the maker. I mean, it's called 6160. And yes, not everything should exactly the same. It'd be boring if it was too similar to 616, but part of the fun is how one small change alters the trajectory of their lives. And see how that shows a different side of the characters we love to read about.

How does Peter not becoming Spider-man as a teen somehow make Felicia Hardy not be born until around the same time as Peter's eldest child? Obviously they're going for a happy, healthy marriage between Peter and MJ. Good, but Felicia is more than just a love interest for Peter. You can still do something fun with their dynamic without creating a romance between them or just... aging Felicia down to make her one of his son's friends.

It makes me think about absolute batman. How bruce wayne didn't grow up rich, so he ended up being friends with a lot of his rogue gallery. I might be over simplifying that a little bit so that comparison could be unfair. but i think you get what I'm saying. I think it would be a lot more fun to see Peter's relationship with certain characters (including some villains) if he hadn't become spider-man until adulthood. Like, for example, uncle ben is still alive. So you get to play how being in Peter's life affects Peter's development. The influence that changed him both as a man and hero compared to Peter losing him very early in his life. THAT is interesting. They didn't just, you know, make Uncle Ben secretly the leader of AIM and also Doctor Octopus.

I know Mile and Apo fans are their main fanbase and bread and butter but they should have done the press tour very differently if BOC didn't want Mansuang to be viewed as a BL film. Apo and Bas should have been teamed up for the press tour along with Mile and Tong. All four should have gone abroad for the overseas premiers and even if not for one of the big magazines like vogue should have done more interviews and photoshoots together (all 4) for the movie. They should have played around with the pairing a lot more for the press tour. Bas and Tong had massive parts in the movie and according to critics did very well in the movie.They should have been promoted more in their own press tour for their film. The intention of Mansuang was a Mile Apo movie but that clearly isn't what the end product was and they should have promoted it as an ensemble film. This is not even taking into account the actual veteran actors and actresses in the film that got absolutely 0 press. Let the women and older actors in your film actually promote the film to their own fans and that demographic? People don't go to the movies just for young good looking men. They actually had a lot to work with and I think Mansuang would have done a lot better locally if they hadn't completely blown the marketing for this film in a rushed few weeks with overloaded content that followed the BL marketing handbook that they used for KP.

the lack of acknowledgement of the veteran actors on the posters and in the trailer was something @moerusai and I both noticed and talked about. I think we mainly kept quiet at the time because there was soooo much complaining, from the size of the characters on the poster to how often the specific posters rotated at what venues, it just would be piling on legitimate issues on top of petty complaints.

there were well known, well respected actors in the cast who would've been an audience draw. I have a handful of actors I'll go to see a film for, *knowing* they're playing a side character (thinking mainly of Tom Hardy and Ben Whishaw here, who shine as leads and support).

Mile and Apo both made jokes about how difficult it must have been for the artist who made the Man Suang posters to have worked with Pond. there's many fan accounts of Pond's perfectionism in running KPWT... he often seems myopic on perfectionism to the point of missing the main points (here, having a poster that pleased him over missing the overarching man suang marketing campaign...)

not to make riches out of others' misfortune but the WGA strike and the SAG strike did potentially help in getting them on the map prior to White Lotus scripting and casting. There was already some momentum in getting them into the show as guest actors. If that happened it would be a wonderful way for them to get into a series where they're not doing the heavy lifting end to end of fundraising / script development all the way through coming up with marketing. 🙃

the problem with the fandom and having inherited the attitude of entitled musician / kpop fandoms is the constant hunger for new content and getting to see them. film / series take a lot more time to develop. you can drop a single or music videos in preparation for the launch of an album or just as a stand alone single, and most fans just don't seem to recognize that discrepancy in the lift. there were toxic apc solos complaining in August about how the year is "almost over" and Apo had "nothing" as though he didn't spend the majority of the year working on the movie.

anyway the hunger for content makes product promo much more accessible and bite sized... people just aren't patient enough. so many people were mad and antsy when MA were shooting man suang and trying to limit spoilers by showing very little that they threw fits over there not being new content when MA were literally working on the content that is the main dish of the whole meal.

anyway. yeah I agree. fingers crossed the uni icon product will go through relatively quick production and white lotus will pick them 🤞

The Scottish actor and director Kenny Ireland passed away ten years ago, on July 31st 2014.

Born as George Ian Kenneth Ireland in Paisley, Renfrewshire, the son of Ian, an RAF bomber pilot who was killed on a secret mission when Ireland was five months old, and Elizabeth (nee Cowie). On leaving Paisley grammar school, he worked as an apprentice at the town’s thread manufacturer, J&P Coats. However, his ambition was to act and he eventually left to train at the Royal Scottish Academy of Music and Drama. Then, as an actor and assistant director, he helped to establish the Lyceum Youth theatre in Edinburgh.

He made his West End acting debut in Mr Laurel and Mr Hardy (Mayfair theatre, 1976) after the Traverse theatre Company’s Edinburgh production transferred to London. He was then a member of the Royal Shakespeare Company, before work at the National Theatre, where he was Apollo in Peter Hall’s production of The Oresteia, and the Old Major and Pilkington in Animal Farm. By then, he was himself directing at the Traverse theatre.Ireland first appeared on television as an Edinburgh bank manager in an episode of the police drama Strangers. In between many other one-off roles, he played Sammy, alongside Simon Cadell and Carol Royle, in the first series of the sitcom Life Without George and the thuggish American media tycoon Ben Landless in the political drama House of Cards. He was also one of the regular group of actors in Victoria Wood: As Seen on TV, best remembered in blue dungarees and cap as the handyman Derek in the much-loved Acorn Antiques sketches, which lampooned the soap opera Crossroads. “

In the cinema, Ireland was in the Scottish film comedy Local Hero, directed by last week’s birthday boy, Bill Forsyth, other films included The Big Man, but it was TV that we mainly say Kenny in appearances in Dr. Finlay’s Casebook, Enemy at the Door, Taggart, Dempsey and Makepeace, Auf Wiedersehen, Pet, Rab C Nesbit, Hamish Macbeth and many more saw that he was kept busy and the bills were paid between many theatre appearances as well as at stint as artistic director of the Royal Lyceum theatre, Edinburgh from 1993 to 2003.

Of course Kenny is best remembered for is role in Derren Litten’s Benidorm, which became an instant hit. Alongside actress Janine Duvitski, the pair played a sex-mad couple who frequent the Solana hotel in the Spanish resort every year.

It wasn’t an easy role for the mild mannered Ireland, he recalled “Half the things I don’t understand, There was one episode where I had to say, ‘Jacqueline prefers the sausage in cider.’ I said, ‘What’s funny about that?’ and had to have it explained to me. I’ve always taken the line that they’re complete innocents.

Ireland’s first marriage, to the writer, producer and director Marilyn Imrie, ended in divorce. In 1980, he married the theatrical agent Meg Poole

What are your favourite dynamics for Peter Beale?

(I absolutely love love Thomas Law’s Peter, but HATED Dayle Hudson’s version, as I’ve found him unlikeable and quite vile, so I’m very pleased that Tom is back in the role)

First of all, I totally agree with you. I was in love with Thomas as Peter when he first played him, and I screamed with absolute joy when he came back. I feel like he IS Peter. I haven’t watched much of Ben Hardy’s run, so I can’t speak much for him, but I saw enough of Dayle Hudson’s run to know that that was NOT the same character at all. Anything Peter supposedly did while played by Dayle is simply not canon to me (because can you imagine Tom’s!Peter being so vile to Bobby? or cheating on Ash with Suki? or stealing from Kathy, or even having such strong hatred for Ben?)

Secondly, my favourite dynamics for Peter (specifically Tom’s!Peter <3):

1. Peter and Bobby. The bond between them when Tom was first in it was rare to see but still very sweet (his reaction to Jane leaving because he knew how much Bobby loved her, his concern when Bobby ran away and then the way he ran to him when they found him, and the way he said goodbye to only him and kissed his little head as he left with tears in his eyes??). The chemistry between Thomas and Clay made the dynamic even better when Thomas came back. Peter is a good big brother, and he would do literally anything for Bobby.

2. Peter and Jane. He really loved Jane like a mum when he was a kid. She was always there, and he turned to her for advice, and some of my favourite scenes were him defending Jane to Ian.

3. Peter and Lucy. Again, specific to Thomas and Melissa, because while they argued constantly, they cared about each other so much. The scene where Peter comes into Lucy’s room with a box of chocolates to comfort her? (Actually, the way he was with her throughout the entire pregnancy storyline for the most part.) The way he was so worried about her when she ran away, and how he confronted Adam for trying to blackmail her. (PS I miss Melissa Suffield as Lucy <3)

4. Peter and Fatboy. They were PRECIOUS. Peter wanted to impress Fatboy so much, it was adorable. The “P” necklace Fatboy gave him?? The ROAD TRIP EPISODE?? I will forever be missing them <3

5. Peter and Tamwar. I was really disappointed when they stopped interacting as much because I liked their friendship around 2008(?).

6. Peter and Ian. As much as I despise Ian Beale at times, that’s part of the reason I like the dynamic between them. Peter is always furious with his dad, and I like that he will always call Ian out on his idiocy and bullshit.

7. Peter and Ben. I’m really basing this one on when they were kids and probably on like one scene in general, which is the one just after Ben has gotten out of young offenders for the first tome and stays with the Beales, and he’s refusing to talk about what happened so Peter is being all soft with him. I am and forever will be ignoring all of the inbetween stuff because OUR Peter would never have reacted the way he did. We know he would’ve tried to understand why Kathy was giving so Ben so much leniency and even after Ben accidentally assaulted him, he would’ve been asking questions and trying to figure out what was going on with Ben. They didn’t interact nearly enough when Thomas came back (because I just know Thomas and Max could’ve had some great scenes).

8. Peter and Lauren. This is a more complex one for me. I adored them together as kids (OG Lauren, not Jacqueline), and I was thrilled when we saw them together again when Thomas came back as Peter, and I absolutely think Thomas and Jacqueline have chemistry. I just… I struggle to care about them? I don’t know what it is, maybe it’s just because they’re arguing all of the time, I don’t know. I WANT them to be happy together, I just don’t know.

A/N: The idea for this one came about because I was rewatching Crazy Ex-Girlfriend (for those that are unfamiliar it's a tv comedy series that features musical numbers, its great, highly recommend) and in on episode the main character contracts a UTI and the guy she's been sleeping with sings a song about how he's proud to have been soon good at sex that she needs medication. It's funny and stupid but it did make me think of my favourite rich prick and I had to write something lmao.

When you’d gone out with Ben you’d figured you’d have a good night letting him be all dominant and then you’d be sent home as soon as he was done, with a slap on the arse and probably some comment about being a whore. It was nicer than that. Sweet and soft and a lot of it had happened when he wasn’t inside you which was maybe the most surprising part. Though, really, the whole thing was definitely unexpected. 

There’d been breaks for room service meals and at one point you’d dozed off whilst laying against his chest, a movie playing on the TV and his fingers playing with your hair. But most of the time had been spent fucking. A, frankly, ridiculous amount of fucking. In all sorts of positions and places throughout the suite, some of it rough, some soft and sensual, all of it very satisfying. There’s more I want to do to you.”  You couldn’t imagine what else he could possibly be thinking of but kept that to yourself in order to tease him a bit, “You must really love being my sub if you’re asking me out again already. Don’t think many girls get invited into your bed a second time and little old nobody me gets a third.”  “I just figured since I got you off so much, the least you could do is suck my cock again.”  You laughed, “Well if a blowjob is all you want then maybe I’ll consider it, but I’m not really up to uhh penetration.”  “Why not? I guess I just don’t really feel like it tonight.” There was a short pause and then Ben said, “Believe me, no one is as surprised as I am.”  You had to laugh, but also said, “Well, sounds like it’ll be fun.”  “You could still join me.”  “It’s a tempting offer but I probably shouldn’t. A night on your own will do you some good anyway.”   “Sure it’s not cause I’m so irresistible? Worried you’ll catch a glimpse of my halfie and beg to suck on it?”  “More that I don’t trust you not to talk me into it and I’m still trying to train you to behave.”  Ben gave a soft little whimper that he tried to cover with a cough and you smiled, pleased you could still affect him like that.  

But just when you thought he was being a little predictable, Ben decided to throw you for a loop.   “You are okay though right?  “Yeah,” you said, trying not to sound like you were too taken aback, “I’m fine. UTI’s can become serious if ignored but I’m not ignoring it and they’re pretty easy to treat. I’ll just be out of action or a week or two, no biggie. Unfortunately I had agreed to go with Bianca to a cycling class so I’ll probably have to cancel that. She’ll understand though.”  “Well then let me pay for that. I mean, I assume there’s a cancellation fee.”  “There is but you don’t have to do that.”  “Please, Y/N, if there’s one thing I have, it’s money. It’ll be like losing some loose change in the couch. And...I want to help. I did contribute to your situation after all – y'know, big dick, hot lay, we’ve covered that already. I’d be a prick not to help somehow. Is there anything else I can do? Pain relief or, I don’t know, do you need a lift to the appointment? And...feel better soon.”  “I will, thanks Ben. Umm, talk soon?”  “Yeah, definitely.”  You were still a little in shock when you hung up, and not at all sure how to break it to Bianca that you might have a crush on the Ben Hardy.

It was a strange feeling, gathering her things from the room she shared the first few nights with Danielle. It felt a little like jumping in the deep end, but since it was for the show, and she had to play the game, it wasn’t technically her fault that it seemed that way. She would convince herself of that anyway. Once all her things were packed and she said her goodbyes to her friend, she made her way over to her new room for- Well who really knew how long for? All she really thought the whole way over was the facts to that moment. They were best friends for two years. They liked each other a lot of that time. Finally admit it on a televised game a few days ago. Will be sleeping in the same bed for at least, for sure, that evening. That was all she allowed herself to think about. If she thought any further ahead, she would only get her hopes up. And the Brit was well aware with the fact that was when life liked to pull the rug. Best not getting her hopes up too much at such a crucial point. If it went south now, she would be so much more upset than if she didn’t know at all. 

Arriving at the door, the blonde slowly opened the door to see whether or not she was the first to arrive. Greeted by darkness, she smiled and turn on the lights as she walked in, deciding then and there the bed closest to the balcony was preferable. And if she had a say, the side of the bed closest to the balcony too. Leaving her suitcase by the side of the bed she already claimed, she slid the glass door open and stepped out to take in the surroundings and fresh air. At that, she heard the front door opening. Deciding to give herself a few breaths, she returned to see who she was joined by. Her face instantly beamed at the blonde walking in. “Hi there handsome boy.” Her fingers playing with themselves, she gave a more clenched grin. “Was this a weird choice? Is this too fast and weird?” Finally taking a few coy steps toward the male. “I just liked the thought of snuggling all night. That’s sad, isn’t it?” She pouted.
