Well, well well… what do we have here? Inside the Air Well or Light Well area of the @katongantiquehouse is a traditional looking well. These can be found in the garden area of many homes in Singapore about 50 years ago. I vividly remembered my grandparents’ well in the village they lived in (Punggol) that had a flight of stairs going down to fetch water. I never liked walking down and up those steps 😅 . Watch how I created this: https://youtu.be/zkPEzM7_OnI . . . . . . . . #illustration #artwork #instaart #mural #conceptart #muralart #wallpainting #murale #wallart #bigcanvas #wallpainting #instagramart #artistsg #sgartist #exploresg #alfdoodles #alvinmark #urbanart #alvinmarksketchbook #nipponpaint #katong #peranakan #oldwindow #katongantiquehouse #airwell #lightwell #courtyard #discoversingapore to #singaporetourismboard (at Katong Antique House) https://www.instagram.com/p/CQZ4mPrnhJg/?utm_medium=tumblr

Sun is the first and forever source of light... Utilising this abundant and natural light has been the corner stone of previous generations, and hence a major influence on modern architecture too #Light_wells #courtyards #glass_roofs are some examples of how one can invite more light into their structures Do note that #sunlight will produce heat, and that can effect your HVAC and power consumptions #askthelightdesigner #Light #sunshine #sun_light #openareas #lightwells #LightingDesign #naturaldesign #natural_light #nature (at Riyadh, Saudi Arabia) https://www.instagram.com/p/B_zTP2OB3av/?igshid=1jbx66hj32f5y

Model of work-cum-residence area designed for craftsman in Moradabad #india by @officialahsanjaved Project info: Location: Moradabad, Uttar Pradesh, India Site area: 9m x 12m Moradabad is known for famous brass handicrafts industry where the house clusters are very chaotic and confined. This design aims to solve the problem while maintaining the relationship between people, craft and the city. The project was started by understanding the intangible aspects of a space and how we feel and react differently in different spaces and eventually we have to design a work-cum-residence area for the craftsmen to promote the craft and increase public engagement. The requirements were very heavy in comparison with the site area we have been provided. We had a narrow approach road toward the site which was just 2 m wide with north facing entrance. The site was covered from all sides with adjoining buildings which were 2/3 floors high. There are three components in the design i.e. public, craft and residence. The public area consists of souvenir shop, exhibition area, eating/waiting area and area for visitors to try their hands on the craft. The craft area is the personal workspace of the craftsmen where activities like engraving, polishing and painting will happen. The site is recessed at street level and a large entrance is provided to give a sense of openness and the visitors should feel more welcoming. Molten cast glass panels with laminated timber jail is used in the front façade to maximize daylight capture while maintaining the privacy of the users. As there have no scope of fetching in natural light and ventilation from any side except north so a courtyard is introduced as a lightwell. There is a play of levels and double height spaces are provided for visual connectivity within the building and to give a sense of spaciousness. Also, the staircases were placed in such a way that the floor plates were connected through the mid-landings and landings thus reducing the passage area. The area was located in a very humble neighbourhood, so no high range materials is used to make the user and neighbor comfortable. Shahjahanabad- a city which is an architectural masterpiece. Emperor Shah Jahan holds numerous tales, anecdotes and tangible remains within its fold. Popularly known as Old Delhi, this city is famous for food, heritage and culture. Some of these havelis exhibit the grandeur and flamboyance of the Mughal era. The unique culture, history and heritage that sets Old Delhi apart from the rest of the country. Traditional havelis were built around a courtyard, and all family activities revolved around this chowk or courtyard. Additionally, the courtyard serves as a lightwell and helps ventilate the house in the hot and dry climates of the region. Some say that these havelis served as the mansion for the wealthy merchants, royal accountants and advisors to the Mughal court. @olddelhiwalk #olddelhiwalk #mkhtourism #mkhtours #mughal #india #mughalarchitecture #history #delhi #mughalempire #architecture #photography #heritage #art #mughalart #travel #agra #instagood #indianhistory #akbar #tajmahal #love #travelphotography #mughals #foodie #incredibleindia #shahjahan #culture #food (at Masterji Kee Haveli Tourism India) https://www.instagram.com/p/CT7mCigBc4E/?utm_medium=tumblr

Day 292 of 365 Photo Challenge.  Kingston Halls: The west side of the building shows a 1903 building date for this large hall, Carnegie funded public library and police office attributed to the architect Robert William Horn (1869-1932). A large building on the southside of Glasgow the southern front elevation is red sandstone with a high level of detailing exhibiting the exuberance and excessive detailing associated with influence from the baroque period where high renaissance architecture had evolved into the flamboyance of the baroque period. The red sandstone continues down the first portion of the west elevation, after which the building reveals the material used in the majority throughout the building: red brick. Whilst the west elevation is fenestrated the east elevation comprises of a party wall to begin the southern end of the elevation where until 2010 a tenement sat sharing a party wall with the halls until it was gutted by fire and subsequently demolished. Behind the short party wall the halls steps back allowing windows on the east elavation on this portion where a gap between the buildings acted as a lightwell. The north elevation is the rear of the building an plain brick with none of the flamboynace of the public southern elevation. The southern elevation has a grand entrance which has since been blocked off, with a small wall and windows above, the main entrance now is to the east of the front elevation through the former public library doorway. adorning the gran south elevation is a series of decorations from small relief plaques and a large red sandstone carved 'figure of learning' a female form by sculptor Richard Ferris (1886-1915) which is a particularly fine sculpture. Also adorning the building amongst the classical and baroque stylings is a large Glasgow crest proclaiming the city's motto of 'Let Glasgow Flourish' as can be seen on a great many buildings of this period. No longer a public hall, the building currently houses the Talbot Association, a charity dealing with the homeless.#glasgow #scotland #peoplemakeglasgow #visitglasgow #photooftheday #glasgow2019 #365daychallenge #KingstonHalls #KingstonLibrary #TalbotAssociation (at Kingston Halls) https://www.instagram.com/p/B30PrN2hFSB/?igshid=j777rob4v2sf
