Another interesting point with the Lesbian Sumire Yoshizawa interpretation is how a lot of Sumire's life was following in Kasumi's shadow and having her identity formed and reliant on Kasumi. Kasumi chose what she did worse, the hobbies she did, on top of her parents comparing everything Sumire does to Kasumi. Sumire's identity crisis began due to this, and once Kasumi was gone, she had to attach her identity around Kasumi to cope with the loss.

It's just really interesting how Joker ends up becoming a similar person for Sumire, and henceforth her attachment to Joker has a similar unhealthy coping mechanism for her. This is seen through how she copies Joker as her image of a hero to copy onto herself with her Violet form in the metaverse. It's pretty clear that Sumire's crush on Joker is a mix of desperation to conform to society as well as needing a replacement for Kasumi as 'that person'.

This is why it's personally hopeful that the game ends with Sumire and Joker parting ways; Sumire needs time along to discover who she is outside of Kasumi and Joker himself. This is also my personal interpretation of why she's not really with the group in Persona 5: Strikers and Tactica. After Kasumi's death and the 3rd semester, Sumire needs time by herself to come to terms with her sexuality, the trauma around Kasumi's loss, and the learned behaviors her upbringing imprinted onto her.
