So, we're stopping for the night.
Collecting my feelings, a bit on the difficult side right now. So, from the beginning.
Carter is definitely going to murder anyone who dares to suggest giving Gavin over to Livingstone. Elizabeth reminds me why we should fear her.
Tumblr media
She's absolutely correct and should remind them more often. So, after this entire thing, with Carter weirdly being outdone by his mother regarding murderous protectiveness of Gavin, we experience another Gordo and Gavin bonding moment!
Well, they bond offscreen while Mark and Carter discuss things, leading to a wonderful exchange that quite simply must be experienced firsthand. Or second-hand:
Tumblr media
Carter, my man, no one, not a single person, is talking about gay sex. You, Carter, are eternally thinking about gay sex. Yes, boundaries, Carter, you need them. I've lost count of the number of times you have completely derailed a moment because you can't keep Gavin's dick out of your head. Shower. Cold. Acquaint yourself with one. Now!!
Gordo's personality is rubbing off on Gavin. What am I even supposed to do with this exchange?
Tumblr media
You've all been a terrible influence on him!
So, I loved this moment. And not because Perfume is my favorite novel of all time and therefore these constant olfactory discussions tend to appeal to me specifically.
Tumblr media
I'm glad we are all in agreement that no one has any clue what Joe's talking about. Still, Carter and Gavin are legitimately cute here. I love them so much.
Which brings us to Christmas Day. Where I'll have you all know I politely sat the book down and advised it to fuck itself many, many times.
Thomas's letter.
The one to Robbie tore me apart. I strongly remember having been torn apart by it. I did not delude myself into believing this one would not also tear me apart.
It tore me apart.
But, sure, okay, another Thomas Bennett heart-break from beyond the grave. Why not. We've been there, done that. Not getting old, but we expect it.
We do not, however, expect Elizabeth Bennett to give Gavin the Wolf Thomas had given her. No, that's not something we expected at all. Reading this chapter, from the letter on, was an exercise in me crying hideously and cursing repeatedly.
Tumblr media
So yeah, we are done for the night. I do not need more feelings before I go to sleep.

I need to yell about Heartsong, so beware: spoilers after the break!
So I was kinda dumb, because the epilogue of Ravensong kind of gave it away. But because Heartsong started with baby Robbie, I just assumed it picked up the story before Robbie came to the Bennets. Anyway, I did know who Ezra was, but I didn't link the dreams to actual memories and was wondering if Robbie had some sort of visions or whatever. I feel a little dumb now. Also ARE TANNER AND CHRIS WOLVES NOW WHAT THE HECK and were is the rest of Team Human?? (I'm just at the confrontation at the bridge, so I'm sure I'll find out soon enough) but !!!!!
Also still a little unsure about the timeline, how long has Robbie been gone - was it like 6 months or so? UGH. This is such a good plot building series!

Thoughts on Heartsong chapter three:
The thing I really like about the early vibe of this book, and the beginning of Ravensong was the very Supernatural-esque road trip vibe. The open road, dirty cheap motels, boys being boys. Just always loved that vibe.
So one of the things that I really love about TJ Klune in general is his ability to create a vibe. Like you can feel yourself in that shitty car with Robbie and his mom, praying that it starts. You can feel yourself in the crappy motels with Joe and Carter and Kelly and Gordo.
Tumblr media
Hmm. This sounds like she's talking about the Bennett pack, but this should be before Ox et al joined, shouldn't it? 🤔🤔🤔
I wonder if Michelle would have still sent him to Green Creek if she'd known Thomas was in the dreams.
I like how we know Robbie's initial instincts about Michelle were spot on, even though he later changed his mind.
Man, I do not know what is going on with Robbie in the refuge? Who did he hear?? Thomas again? I wish I had an idea for when this was taking place with regards to what's going on in Green Creek. I suppose that will be answered eventually but I don't even remember when Robbie turned up at Green Creek cause it's been so long since I read Wolfsong.
Anyway, man I'm worried about this pack in Virginia. I feel like we're gonna get a glimpse of Michelle's true self sooner rather than later. 👀👀👀

Man if i had infinite money i’d figure out how to produce an adaptation of TJ Klune’s Green Creek books for HBO so I could keep in all the (non-sexual) nudity and (very sexual) gay relationships between werewolves. And to make sure all the human to wolfman to giant wolf shifts look fucking amazing. A mixture of practical make-up and CGI. Each book would be a season, and since the series is done we won’t have a GoT situation! Probably about…8-10 episodes per season, and I’d have them film the parts of Ravensong that happen at the same time as Wolfsong while filming Season 1. Yeah there’d be a lot of (mostly male) nudity, but I think a mostly-LGBTQ+ cast and production staff could thread the needle of balancing respectful, tasteful, and juicy manly beefy eye candy.

It is one-thirty in the morning, just a normal sort of September night. There's a cat stretched asleep on my bed, a raccoon being annoying outside my window. A clock chimed for the half-hour. I have finished Brothersong.
There's a kind of voice I like to use when I'm writing about these books. I tend to exaggerate my feelings a bit, joke about some of the weirder moments. There's a running vocabulary of stupid in-jokes throughout my posts; things I find amusing that I hope illicit at least an eye roll or a smirk.
I do not think I can maintain that level of self-amusement, right now. I don't want to, not for this one.
I am not exaggerating, playing it up or anything, when I say that I simply could not stop crying throughout the end. Ox's death, Joe's sacrifice, Thomas Bennett at the clearing. This was not fun, this was not pleasant, this was honestly very difficult for me to read.
Let's do a bit of basic addition: Wolfsong (498); Ravensong (496); Heartsong (468); Brothersong (468). One thousand nine-hundred and thirty pages total.
That's one thousand nine hundred thirty pages of love, heartbreak, beauty and death. I nearly dropped the first book halfway through because I was going through a break-up and Joe's decision to leave Ox behind in pursuit of the beast who murdered his father felt like too much at the time. I'm very glad I didn't, but I don't exactly feel glad in the sense that I'm particularly happy right now.
A few days ago, I mentioned how much I was stalling this book, because I knew I wasn't really ready to finish it. There's not exactly more to fall back on, you know?
Not another book, a new villain, a new perspective, or mystery, or awkward gay love to uncover. Just, an ending.
Hell, just finding the right way to talk about how I'm feeling right now, about the book in question, Brothersong, the book I just finished, isn't exactly going well for me.
I've said quite a bit about the late Thomas Bennett. I have been mildly curious about his letter to Joe's future mate, but doubted it would really make an appearance, since, there being no other book, there's no reason to have a viewpoint character read it that isn't Ox. I was wrong.
Ox is. He just is.
Gavin is, as I've said before, the type of man I would fall hopelessly for. Carter has his work cut out for him, but it's a wonderful future nonetheless.
Joe's no longer the Alpha of All, and I'm glad to see this. I'm happy for him. So much could have been avoided if this responsibility had not been given to him.
I'm glad there's exactly no clarity whatsoever on the Chris and Tanner situation. Whatever they've got works for them, and who am I to judge?
Gordo is free of the last of his demons. I hope Mark gets to smile more.
Kelly and Robbie will forever be the definition of "illegally cute couple". Sickening, really, but in a good way.
I just... what's next?
I love these idiots, and I'm glad most of them have a happy ending.
I'm going to leave this here, for personal reasons:
And, this, because it is very true to how these books are sitting with me now:
Tumblr media
I think I'm turning in for the night. I've got work in the morning. I'll find another book to read, something that won't depress me as much.
As always, I am lying.

Green Creek folk! I'm still halfway through the series (started Heartsong this morning), so I don't want to dive into the fandom JUST yet, because I'm trying to avoid spoilers, but please let yourself be known via this post and I'll follow after I'm done reading! If you can rec fanartists, that would be lovely too!
I've done a little fanart so far, there will probably be more, so if you like that consider following me (this is a multi-fandom and other nonsense blog, so beware!).
