it doesn’t get any better
i should explain where i got all of these hold on
The first one compares the game models in A pose and the animated idle pose behind it. Adachi’s only very slightly taller in the torso while his head is also long, but he slouches I guess. The 3D model heights are rather accurate and realistic, that is, the proportions match the IT kids’ canon heights in the first official art book.
The second is from the Ultimax art book. The note below the height says he’s modeled shorter than Narukami by 4cm. But he slouches so bad his hit box is almost as tall as Marie’s which I think is silly.
The third is the Golden anime. they took 3 more centimeters away from him. I couldn’t find the vanilla anime but I know he was modeled shorter there too.
The last being Visualive lol I just think how fucking funny it was to have him so cartoonishly smaller than everyone else (bancho actor at 180cm goodness fucking gracious lmao)
The manga does make him a bit shorter than Souji too I guess.
Tumblr media
And if you were curious, his other live portrayals like Madono himself in the Ultimax stage play is like just reaching 168cm, but I couldn’t find anything for Shiroma (superlive).

Sabi ng isang opisyal ng CHED sa dokumentaryo ay "Quality education is expensive, if you want quality education, you should be ready to pay for it".

Tumblr media
YES!! segment !! wahoo !!!!! this is where i constantly stuff my nose in whenever i want a good reference on adachis character. AND THEY'RE ALL PERFECT TO ME!! <- about the media
Persona 4 (PS2 2008)
Back to basics everybody!!! Let’s remember who this goofball is from the start. Forget he has a social link and see him be the bumbling fool for plot exposition and the real murderer !!!! Just like how I tell you not to reference the attendant during 3/20, we can put Shadow Adachi’s mannerisms and his influence under literal god aside and try and focus on what that means as symbolism and extra information on Adachi himself!!
Standalone Drama CD Vol. 3
THIS IS A FUN ONE he has scattered cameos throughout the drama and was essentially being dragged around by Dojima.
Basic premise of this volume that it’s sports festival season!! Yasogami’s at it and the IT are participating, as well as Nanako—although she worries that her dad won’t even come to see her and that she wouldn’t even be able to do the family three-legged race.
Adachi’s appearances here are so stupid, he says he was an “elite” then flops trying to help high-schoolers with homework because Naoto’s there. He does his usual begging and whining with Dojima etc etc he also drove Dojima to compete with Nanako after saying the man finished all his reports as fast as possible.
Tumblr media
I like this one because it reinforces who Adachi is based mostly from the main game. With the context that fans listening are aware he’s the culprit (or not), they do sprinkle in his “emptiness” (<- no i'm exaggerating it sorry) and bring it to the front of the picture a bit.

Manga Adaptation (Sogabe)
SOUJI SETA TRUTHER COMING IN STRONG also i just adore Sogabe’s adaptation on the game as a whole. While I am Marie lover#1, this manga did begin in 2008, and I like to think it’s the hypothetical that Marie really was expunged completely OKAY WHERE WAS I
As mentioned, this whole adaptation focuses on the game before Golden was ever a thing. No scooters, no extra events, no nothing. Although, Sogabe did write in a bit of Adachi’s Social Link in a context best suited for Souji.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
I like Sogabe's take on Adachi in the manner of how he draws him and writes him as a character. It's not as whimsical or lazy like the anime, and the way he took the downhill spiral of the Hospital arc, from November to December, just actually felt like my emotions were ready in the right places. Surprisingly, in every adaptation, I was really enamored to see how Adachi acted differently in each one.
In the manga, he didn't seem as slack jawed as he did in the game at least. He looked like he was trying so hard to act concerned when he he actually feels guilty for everything going down !!! OR MAYBE NOT !!!!!!!
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
compared to the game, you can really how much he exudes of being so. plastic. ung kaplastikan. and you're mad not because you're stuck with ps2 limitations of three polygons of an arm waving around, but you're mad that he reeks of faking concern. But also unlike the game, you don't understand what's going on anymore because of the things that have transpired in relation to Adachi's character. Which is Sogabe's adaptation of his Social Link with Souji through having dinner with each other.
and Souji doesn’t know him! They share things with one another that one dinner but otherwise, Adachi’s never rambled on about himself as much as he does in a normal Social Link run. There is a different sort of motive with Souji and he wants to some things wrap things up while everything else is falling apart around him. If there’s a chance to help someone, even if he’s only talked thoroughly once or twice and that the other party’s opened up a single time to him, he’s the boy who wants to get through to people either way. What if Souji’s a bit selfish himself and wants to be in control of things when everything in his life and vision are literally blurring as he breathes? (takes place in november when nanako's hospitalized btw)
Tumblr media
I love the lack of intimacy between the two, contrary to what majority of the fan base wants or even BELIEVES. Souji is a kid with a year in Inaba, of course he does a million other things with his time than hang out with an adult that’s some kind of darker version of himself and a representation of a possible bleaker future considering how similar they are.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
As for the specific chapters, I think it’s fulfilling to go through the whole manga from the start. Like, forget everything you know about P4 for a second and experience it as fresh as possible. Then you get to Chapter 54 to see Adachi’s condensed Social Link and get to Volume 12 to see things come together. Sure, I start getting a bit iffy with Volume 13 but I enjoy the parallels between the two, genuinely.
i have more stuff locked and loaded but uhmmm yeah 👍

VISUALIVE (stageplay)
you will never see adachi ever act like a cunt like this ever again. he only does it once because hes gay.
i have made a million essays about this this is the foundation of this gas station itself

or you can watch the whole thing because Masami Itou’s portrayal of him is just delightful: https://youtu.be/7oTpjmeD-mk

Arena Ultimax; Episode Adachi
hahaha. haha. laughs weakly. haha.
I would kindly ask everybody to do this in Japanese dub but otherwise ehmmm yeah ! Episode Adachy. I do enjoy how they try to elaborate how his personalities are coalescing into a single face as he doesnt have to fake around people anymore. Like the fact that his lame humor is still present and he’ll do stupid voices, which makes you wonder if he was always like this or that it’s something he adopted while acting out the last facade he’s done for over a year—or more.
HE IS SO FUCKING OPINIONATED AND THINKS HES SO COOL he has SO MUCH PRIDE but also he doesnt at the same time. you think hes a soldier surviving in the idgaf war but hes still dying in the mines he planted and crossfire for multiple reasons. hes simultaneously a teenage girl and a man in his late twenties.
Tumblr media
Adachi is totally giving a fuck, not just in a white girl bully “I’m better than everyone” kind of way but like he’s totally giving a fuck about a lot of things. “Oh I gotta stop whatever this god has going down for this city in bumfuck nowhere because the case is going to go around in circles and i’ll never serve jail time in peace” how many times has he turned corners in an alleyway maze just by saying this.
hes literally trembling in his shoes with everything happening in that hour but hes just so good at bottling up emotions from others and HIMSELF. Theres only so much he’ll admit in his own monologue—in his own thoughts. That hes aware of things but he’ll never say it out loud even in his own head i’ll tear him apart with my bare hands <- i am just genuinely annoyed he can do this and not me but i should be grateful that i can express myself than be an emotionally repressed asshole
He finds kids who are mirrors where he sees himself in. One, a goody two-shoes who has it all, the other an actual brat with a fucked up life from loneliness, isolation, and abuse (a million other things). And he’s not annoyed only because he finds similarities between him and them, but the fact that they’re children and they have at least a decade more than his ass which he spent sulking about with.
He’s mad at Bancho because he has his way from the kindness and generosity of his time he’s spent with others, something Adachi didn’t do; in which he could use his situation with his family and education as an excuse, but he never brings that up because as much as he likes seeing others eat shit and he has his way, Adachi also considers himself a fuckup. can you see this irony. So many chances to get out there and socialize, but he stuck his nose in his studies thinking a good future’s already laid out for him—BUT THE BUBBLE POPPED which is what fucking happens when youre in Japanese economic depression after the bubble economy. and you dont bother to leave your comfort zone either EVEN WHEN YOU DONT NECESSARILY like the things youre doing because it’s the only damn thing you’re used to !!!!
He’s sick of Sho because he’s an oversized 10 year old who’s doing the exact same thing Adachi’s done in the past and Adachi is sick of that. he hates himself. and he’ll hate a kid for acting the same way. He’ll project so much he’ll fix another person’s mistakes not out of pure goodness of his heart, but because he doesnt like himself as a person no matter how much he tries to deflect these thoughts in his own head.
Tumblr media
Adachi’ll scoff and nitpick Narukami because he doesn’t want to admit this better version of him is better. That he’s not this other guy, but rather, he’s just himself. He complains and whines about Dojima and even says he “hates him,” but is everyone not aware he’s the second biggest tsundere in this series next to Marie at this point. they are COMPETING for that number one title.
Tumblr media
no matter how many times he tries to sever connections for the sake of the other party, those bonds are developed enough for the other party to WANT to tie it back together. he doesnt know how to build bridges, but he doesnt know how to properly burn them either. hes sloppy at everything he does. he is gay.
Tumblr media
okay sorry about that im sososo dizzy honestly. where was i. i talked about his issue with his Persona before and how it isnt his Persona a million times on this blog sorry i really everything's spinning right now 'and you're still writing an adachi essay?' hushup

Arena Ultimax Manga Adaptation (Rokuro Saito)
this is a bit funny. i read it mostly for Sho like. while i do adore it as very beautiful adaptation. when it comes to adachi uhh. hmm. looks around. the rokuro saito effect. he did mementos mission too if you're wondering and what I mean by this.
I mean he did reinforce Adachi getting proper police training and essentially being above average to the top of his classes (krav maga, shooting accuracy, detectivisms, etc.). His humor and mannerisms are also delightful i think personally with the way they're illustrated and essentially visualized. Rokusai has his quirk for drawing everybody really pretty which he does really well for Persona characters, but it also caught me really off guard when he works on adachi like okay! sho breaking his ribs can fix everything itsok.

Tumblr media
OH now this is the section where im a bit iffy with the characterization here but i still like to reference it sometimes
The Golden Animation
Blu-ray/DVD Vol. 2; Bonus Drama CD: A Sense of Gratitude
Adachi doesnt have a big part here he’s literally there to help with the Dojima garden and Narukami plants cabbages for him.

youtube
Blu-ray/DVD Vol. 4; Bonus Drama CD: Boo ~ I bear a grudge on you ~
THIS. this, goodness gracious it was so silly. Adachi’s here for a few segments with Dojima in the pub. Detective yaoi if thats what you’re into I guess. He also sounds a bit cheeky here in speaking tone and the scheme he’s pulling to call Naoto to do their job while Dojima’s knocked out on duty.
Available Video Link: https://youtu.be/PasKTZtKx_c?t=720 (timestamped at 12:00)

The Animation
i dont have much to say about the actual anime i dont really watch it, but i respect the Narukami truthers out there. It’s just not for me, nor do I reference it for Adachi at all. why does he look like this
Tumblr media
i dont have that much judgement to say if it's good enough to use as reference for Adachi besides it visualizing how much of a goofball he is, I guess I could mention that. I have issues of it depicting lore but otherwise i dont think it's that much different than what the base game pulls besides it different pacing to better fit the animation medium.
Standalone Drama CD Vol. 2: You'll understand when you get older
Not particularly partial with this one because the anime gave Narukami a face, like he’s his own character here. Dojima makes Adachi go to Okina and deliver something because his clown ass forgot to hand it over to the other prefect police who visited within the day. Narukami’s off to go help Ebi stand in line for a makeup promo and Dojima says they can go together. There’s a subplot with the IT where they think Narukami’s being arrested lol so they go follow him throughout the rest of the drama.
Adachi just hangs out with the silly billy that is his boss’ nephew who has so much kindness and generosity that it could get the kid killed one day.

The Golden (PS VITA 2013)
I scratch my head and wonder what they were going for with Adachi’s Social Link besides the fanservice. I mean thats what they did with akc in royal i guess. <- has my own opinions about this but im closing my mouth.
It feels a bit too… intimate for me? What’s the deal with WANTING to invite him for dinner… without Dojima around either. Like they’re a two in one package for me, you can’t see one without the other most of the time. Like Adachi’s slacking off work while Dojima’s slaving away by himself? I’ve always believed they get off at the same time or something because of the subordinate status.
I did enjoy the Junes segments though, it kind of felt like it was a good placement—if you move things around a bit. Him hiding behind your back while you’re doing groceries so it looks like he’s busy was a bit funny, and him chatting you up while you’re supposed to be busy yourself is also silly if you consider that Bancho himself wants to bail and was just caught into his chismosa and whining. He has enough of a degree of association with you as you’re putting your nose into the murder case and that you’re his boss’ nephew, so that’s kind of why you’re the only few people he can talk to.
(pauses yes or yes ) i also ate ice cream where was I going with this
dont make me talk about the accomplice ending that thing’s pretty corny to me but also unnerving i dont want to think about it alot.
With the way things have gone for Adachi’s new characterization with the added Social Link and the new events for Golden, it personally made me think twice about it all, especially when his TV studio and Shadow self ended up the same. There’s a lot to go about this? (<- deranged) and I will admit that I myself got sucked into the idea that he’s an antagonist and couldn’t truly experience everything right at that point. whoopsie. Then again, looking at it at this point in time after a few years makes me realize yeah maybe this does make a bit of sense! The nature of the fog has changed, which can explain the drastic change in character between Namatame and Adachi. which is an essay for another day I really feel a bit out of it.
Tumblr media
The “um” segment. Stuff I dont really like to reference nor put in the pot that makes adachi soup because im really iffy with it and how the writing was taken liberally for the sake of the audience rather than the reinforcement of source material itself.
The Golden Animation
The Adachi centric episodes 6, 7, and the accomplice ending bonus episode lol, as the whole Golden anime was really for Marie and other new Golden add-ons like Okina and scooters and ski trip and etc.
how do I put this. im really opinionated on this segment it’s okay if you dont take my word for it. I dont like the production quality. The animation is honestly really bad and the artstyle itsnt tasteful with how it’s executed. There’s enough frames of Marie that people looking over my shoulder while I watch would call her Adachi. It really is a boatload of a cashgrab and fanservice that kind of adds new insightful things to the lore but honestly? I don;t trust it. Like the writers forgot what they were writing about and started writing fanfiction of what they originally made.
It did give some insight with Adachi, but I hate how they just made Narukami the way he is for this adaptation. Like the boy does have all the time in world and hes not an overworked high-schooler with so many commitments now he can… make a man dinner and deliver it to him…? I would definitely say “> Adachi doesn't seem to lead a nutritionally balanced life...” and leave it at that, i am not making him dinner i dont have time for that. can someone get this guy a girlfriend please. Don’t get me started how they treated his character development and lore surrounding him overall im sick of it. At least Sogabe made it all look pretty.
Tumblr media
anyway here’s the part where i can add my closing thoughts as someone who fills a niche solely because they think and enjoy things so differently than the present majority. I don’t think im mature enough to enjoy things peacefully in a community full of different people but also because im losing the idgaf war myself. I’m glad I can enjoy a media in general and I’m so happy when people can enjoy it with me. (had to stop the cat from clawing on the vacuum he likes the texture apparently) where was I
hold my hand as i go through a hundred coming of age arcs in my life and that one day i wont be as embarrassed as i am now to admit i like tohru adachi as a character and talk about him with a restraint so childish because I dislike how a majority depict him. he’s part of my journey as i learn things about myself as much as mimi but in a more human way because. hes human. or something. one day i can forget his reputation in the community and create all the things i make with pure love that is not fueled by spite to be right and correct. I already know i am right and correct because everyone can enjoy things their own way and find things that they like in one thing that are different from things others like. for now, i will still treat him like an insufferable uncle older brother thing whose arm i periodically chew on until i reach bone and let him carry me back to bed when im tired of being annoyed of him.

Inaba Beef and Beef Steak Supply
The jokes and gags and mystery of Inaba's beef and beef steak supply had always intrigued me so I went off to find out more about it. Possibly one of Inaba's "Seven Mysteries"... A conundrum more confusing than the fog itself, and it all comes down to... the owner of Souzai Daigaku!?
[msg MSG_NPC_02_05 [Out-of-towner]] The people around here are very friendly, aren't they? Then again, so are you. If I go to Junes, my neighbors all come out and talk about what I did there and what I bought and so on... But, it's not so bad. Being friendly is a good thing, isn't it? That store has a gashapon machine, but it only works on rainy days for some oddball reason. That's one of this town's "Seven Mysteries," apparently. Hahaha! This stuff only happens in the country, huh?
Yeah this is a really funny endeavor, but I've been curious about it ever since I started playing P4. Aside from Chie's obsession with this thing, it's a bit funny to learn about it when things started going from "beef and steak are Inaba's specialties!" to "hey, we don't really have any ranches nearby, so what's the deal?"
My research entails the funny mystery of the beef supply and where all the cattle come from, so the descriptions and quality of said beef and steak are kind of supplementary along with everything I've gathered. That being said, I've only examined the game itself. While my prior knowledge of things such as drama tracks, manga, spinoffs and ect. are what I currently know and not something I've actually examined as closely as my main source; which is the  game itself.
tl;dr Souzai Daigaku conspiracy Inaba beef probably isn’t beef the whole city goes mad THAT BEING SAID here's what I found
Besides Chie's obsessiveness with this thing and the fact there's "meat gum" which may or may not be related, "Inaba's specialty" of beef and steak is a funny little detail around the whole of Inaba.
They say beef and beef steak are the city's specialty. Folks in Okina being able to acknowledge it. However, they say it's only been like that just recently.
From the dialogue of the husband of Souzai Daigaku's owner:
[msg MSG_NPC_02_04 [Kind man]] If you're wondering what this town's specialty is, wonder no more! It has to be beef steak! But to be honest, it's only been that way for about a year. Before that, no one really cared about it. But my wife always liked it. That's why she started up Souzai Daigaku. She's got a good head for business. Now it's kind of a student hang out. I see this girl in a green track jacket all the time.
Beef is some sort of staple within Inaba at this point. Mainly something Souzai Daigaku serves, but also part of Aiya's menu and the special Beef Bowl Challenge they have on rainy days (or every Friday during the winter).
The way it's cooked in Souzai Daigaku is really tough in texture. "It's tough, hard to bite into, and it got cold while I was still eating it...It was tasty." - Marie.
Souzai Daigaku sells them awfully cheap and they’re sort of addictive, where the skewers and croquettes and a typical snack among the locals and highschoolers (Chie Satonaka). The specialty "Super croquette" often being sold-out, unless it's raining then maybe there's a better chance to get them. Aiya’s Beef Bowl Challenge also being unable to be served as ingredients have run dry.
However, it is said the quality of these products served at Souzai Daigaku are dependent on the owners' mood that day. "Their food tastes different depending on when you go." -Kanji
Souzai Daigaku's history itself is that the business within that establishment is a hobby by the owners, changing every two (2) years or so.
This exchange between Yosuke and Yukiko:
[msg YOSUKE_W_YUKIKO_LV2_1 [Yosuke]] Oh yeah, my dad negotiated with Souzai Daigaku to see if they'd open up a branch in Junes. But he said they turned him down. They're just running the shop as a hobby... [msg YOSUKE_W_YUKIKO_LV2_2 [Yukiko]] Oh, Souzai Daigaku? They change the nature of that place from time to time... [msg YOSUKE_W_YUKIKO_LV2_3 [Yosuke]] The... nature of it? [msg YOSUKE_W_YUKIKO_LV2_4 [Yukiko]] Yes... The owner's the same, but what they do changes about every two years or so. It used to be a lingerie store, and before that I think it was a video rental place. [msg YOSUKE_W_YUKIKO_LV2_5 [Yosuke]] Yeah... that's definitely a hobby, not a business.
Now, according to several accounts, stirs the mystery of Inaba's beef and steak supply.
There are no ranches within Inaba itself. And no idea who’s Souzai Daigaku suppliers at all.
An out-of-towner states there are ranches much too far away. The husband says there are some nearby, but they're only dairy cows, not beef cows. This is added on by a student saying it’s injected with fat to make it more tender. But that would just make the meat more expensive.
It’s explicitly labeled to be “Inaba Beef.” Unsure if Junes is being supplied and sells these things. Even the city-boy protagonist sounding surprised it tastes like beef at all.
[msg REIZOU_35] > You opened the fridge. > A steak bento is inside... > The package states: "100% Inaba Beef!" > ...... > Eat it...? [msg REIZOU_35_YES] > It DOES taste like beef...
It’s a “conspiracy” by Souzai Daigaku.
Addition to how well the products taste per day, during November when Nanako’s hospitalized, it appears that the business is also gravely affected. Accounts of the croquettes of Souzai Daigaku going bad, to the point a grandfather tells his daughter not to cook it.
In the end, it’s still considered “locally produced,” and with no word where Souzai Daigaku gets them. lol
And here’s all the sources I’ve gathered from the script dump because i dont want to open the game and whatever. you should read the script dump it’s a nice hobby <- DESCENT TO HELL. sorry if it looks biased i am literally trying my best out here you can take a look at it yourself if you want.
Here’s a spreadsheet on the game’s voice lines but there’s also a section on how to interpret how the script dump works. probably. https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/e/2PACX-1vQpjr1lpowysg0fRlcyucPwMRkl4iEJHy82drM5HgbnQHgadT5TAO1lkOeZP96zGAGBxobi0e6L2MNN/pubhtml
That being said, these aren’t in order and I didn’t add dates or anything, but you can look at the script dump as a whole for context sorry again if this is bullshit lol
YOSUKE SOCIAL LINK [msg MSG_001 [Yosuke]] Sticking chunks of steak in croquettes... Man, this really is the country, huh? Well, it is good... though it's tough. Chie called this stuff "tender and juicy"... What kinda teeth does she have...?
[msg MSG_0000 [[x 0x80 0x80]]] > The famous steak croquettes are tough...
KANJI SOCIAL LINK [msg MSG_000 [Kanji]] Chie-senpai says the steak bowl here is great. And hey, she's the expert.
MARIE SOCIAL LINK [msg MSG_000] > Shopping District, Souzai Daigaku... > At Marie's insistence, you have come here to eat steak skewers...
[msg MSG_001 [Marie]] It's tough, hard to bite into, and it got cold while I was still eating it.
[msg MSG_002 [Marie]] ...It was tasty. I remember it all from when we came here. This place, this taste, and you.
DAISUKE EVENING TALK [msg SP2_NIGHT09_TALK01_MES_S [Daisuke]] You went to the beach with Yosuke and the others? It's a pretty beach, isn't it? Then again, I've never been to any other beaches, so that's the only one I have to base things on. Well, I mean, I don't have a lot of beach experience, but at least we beat the city in terms of nature, right? What do you think? Is there anything else here in Inaba that's better than being in the city?
[sel SP2_NIGHT09_TALK01_MES_S_2 top] "Kind people." > "The food is good." "Let me think of something."
[msg SP2_NIGHT09_TALK01_MES_B [Daisuke]] We're only known for our steak. That's not much of a specialty... Well, if you think it's good, then that's all that matters.
[msg SP2_NIGHT09_TALK01_MES_B_2] > Daisuke smiles happily...
[msg SP2_NIGHT09_TALK01_MES_E [Daisuke]] We have all this land... I wish they'd made the schoolyard bigger. Then we could play more soccer. Y'know, have the guys on the bench do some scrimmaging while we're playing...
RISE EVENING TALK [msg RIS_NIGHT08_TALK03_MES_E [Rise]] Once you get addicted to good, cheap food like that, it's hard to stop eating it. It's the same way with Souzai Daigaku's steak skewers.
YUMI EVENING TALK [msg BU1_NIGHT12_TALK02_MES_S [Yumi]] It's almost Christmas. It's pretty much like any other day, to me. I know it's not the same as the name-brand stuff, but I made sure to order some chicken for Christmas from Junes. Yosuke-kun was begging me to help him with his quota, and I couldn't say no. I mean, I like chicken, so it's not like I'm suffering or anything. Why don't you help him out, too?
[sel BU1_NIGHT12_TALK02_MES_S_2 top] "Of course I will." > "I don't have the money." "I'm more of a cake guy."
[msg BU1_NIGHT12_TALK02_MES_B [Yumi]] Oh, that's a problem. We are just in high school, after all. It might be less traditional, but steak skewers are a lot more accessible for us, aren't they?
[msg BU1_NIGHT12_TALK02_MES_B_2] > Yumi is smiling...
[msg BU1_NIGHT12_TALK02_MES_E [Yumi]] He gave me some coupons to thank me for ordering from him... But they're all for Christmas stuff. I guess he's really out for business!
[msg BU1_NIGHT06_TALK02_MES_E [Yumi]] All this talk about curry is making me want some. A neighbor gave us some "Inaba beef," so maybe I'll make curry tomorrow...
CHIE EVENING TALK [msg CHI_NIGHT05_TALK01_MES_I_2 [Chie]] Meat Gum is the best way to finish off a steak dinner! This sinewy texture's too good. Well, we should get going.
[msg CHI_NIGHT07_TALK03_MES_E [Chie]] But what with how hot it is, I'm starting to crave some cold ice cream too... There's already Meat Gum--don't you think they should make Meat Ice Cream? I bet it would be a huge hit!
COSTUME [msg COStalk_KUM_14_Change_1 [Teddie]] This is an interesting outfit, isn't it? Trigger tree!  C'mon Sensei, gimme some canday! ...Just no meat gum, though.  I got one from Chie-chan once, and one is enough for a lifetime.
[msg COStalk_KUM_14_Dialo01_1 [Teddie]] Tada!
[msg COStalk_KUM_14_Dialo01_2 [Chie]] Ahahaha! That's great, Teddie! You're totally a pumpkin!
[msg COStalk_KUM_14_Dialo01_3 [Teddie]] Hehehe, trigger tree! Chie-chan, won't you give me some canday!?
[msg COStalk_KUM_14_Dialo01_4 [Chie]] Oh, I have some candy! It's meat gum! It's steaktacular!
[msg COStalk_KUM_14_Dialo01_5 [Teddie]] What? It's meat, but it's gum? This bear's seen everything now.
[msg COStalk_KUM_CHRISTMAS_OF [Teddie]] Wow, it's Santa! I want a present... No meat gum, please.
NON-PARTY DUNGEON DIALOGUE [msg YOSUKE_W_YUKIKO_LV2_1 [Yosuke]] Oh yeah, my dad negotiated with Souzai Daigaku to see if they'd open up a branch in Junes.
[msg YOSUKE_W_KANJI_LV2_1 [Yosuke]] Oh yeah, my dad negotiated with Souzai Daigaku to see if they'd open up a branch in Junes. But he said they turned him down. They're just running the shop as a hobby...
[msg YOSUKE_W_KANJI_LV2_2 [Kanji]] Their food tastes different depending on when you go. That hobby stuff aside, ain't it more how they feel on that day?
[msg YOSUKE_W_KANJI_LV2_3 [Yosuke]] ...I'm glad they turned down our offer.
FRIDGE [msg REIZOU_35] > You opened the fridge. > A steak bento is inside... > The package states: "100% Inaba Beef!" > ...... > Eat it...?
[msg REIZOU_35_YES] > It DOES taste like beef...
OVERWORLD NPC [msg MSG_NPC_08_16 [Lazy male student]] Hey, did you hear? The beef they use in grilled steak is supposedly from regular dairy cows. People are saying that they inject each piece of meat with fat to make it more  tender... I don't believe it though. It'd cost way more to have every single piece of meat individually injected. Well, maybe they could find some way to make it cheaper, but still...
[msg MSG_NPC_01_07 [Homely student]] You ever been to Souzai Daigaku? They know how to run a business there. They're always on top of the latest trends, and the woman who runs the place is really into it. They're the ones who made the grilled steak croquette, you know. Kind of a random specialty, but people love it. ...Hm. Now that I think about it, how do you decide what makes something "special" anyway?
[msg MSG_NPC_01_13 [Homely student]] Hey... Do you like grilled steak?
[sel test_sel01_13 top] "It's pretty good." [a] "It's kinda gross." [b]
[msg MSG_NPC_01_13a [Homely student]] ...It may be best to lay off that stuff, though. Just between you and me... but, there's a rumor going around that the grilled steak isn't real meat... or something...
[msg MSG_NPC_01_13b [Homely student]] Oh. Just forget I said anything, then.
[msg MSG_NPC_04_04 [Lady]] Oh, it's you again. Listen to this, I heard it from someone in the neighborhood. The local specialty of Inaba, grilled steak. I heard that it's a fake. It seems like they just made it up because they needed to come up with a specialty quickly... Well, at least that's what the new rumors are saying.
[msg MSG_NPC_06_03 [Carefree guy]] ...Hey, hey, get this! We don't have any cows around here, right? So why is Inaba's specialty grilled steak, huh?
[msg MSG_NPC_06_05 [Carefree guy]] I told you about there being no beef cows here so... there's something bothering me. Souzai Daigaku's beef... doesn't it seem a little TOO cheap? Don't get me wrong, it tastes good, but... Doesn't it seem kinda odd?
[msg MSG_NPC_06_14 [Carefree guy]] Seriously, Inaba beef's pretty suspicious... I swear it's a conspiracy by Souzai Daigaku. But it tastes so damn good. I think it actually tastes better than before now... Dammit, now I'm curious... What's the truth behind this beef...?
[msg MSG_NPC_02_05 [Out-of-towner]] The people around here are very friendly, aren't they? Then again, so are you. If I go to Junes, my neighbors all come out and talk about what I did there and what I bought and so on... But, it's not so bad. Being friendly is a good thing, isn't it? That store has a gashapon machine, but it only works on rainy days for some oddball reason. That's one of this town's "Seven Mysteries," apparently. Hahaha! This stuff only happens in the country, huh?
[msg MSG_NPC_02_14 [Out-of-towner]] This village's specialty is grilled steak. But... I don't see any cows anywhere. The only ranch I can think of around here is really far away. ...Isn't that odd? Where does all this meat come from?
[msg MSG_NPC_01_15 [Shopping woman]] Shopping woman:What should I do for dinner tonight... Maybe I'll make croquettes. The trick is to fry them at a high temperature. If the oil isn't hot enough, they'll get all soggy. Loud old man: Not that I'm complaining about your cooking, but... Don't make beef croquettes! Shopping woman: Huh? Why not? Loud old man: You don't know!? Right now, Inaba's beef is... Uh... Well... Never mind! Shopping woman: How strange... Grandfather would never say anything bad about Inaba.
[msg MSG_NPC_02_12 [Kind man]] Something's been bothering me lately. ...Isn't it kinda weird that beef steak is our specialty, when there aren't any ranches nearby? We're getting it pretty cheap, but... only my wife really knows where we get it from. I left it up to her...
[msg MSG_NPC_02_17 [Kind man]] I've been hearing a lot of unpleasant things... There are some ranches not too far away, but they've only got dairy cows there. What does it all mean? What kind of meat are we using in our steaks?
[msg MSG_NPC_02_20 [Kind man]] My wife, she... She said she was tired of me. Can you be tired... of a person like that? If she says so, it must be true, right? She told me not to worry about the steak... We've got reliable suppliers, she said. My wife says it's true... it must be. I just won't think about it...
[msg MSG_NPC_02_25 [Kind man]] Hey, it's pretty cold, isn't it? I bet if you ate something from Souzai Daigaku, you'll warm up. I let my wife handle the beef, but I've been helping with the croquettes.
[msg MSG_NPC_02_26 [Kind man]] *yawn* I haven't been getting much sleep lately. My wife and I have been having long talks all night. We've decided that Souzai Daigaku should have a special limited-time menu to celebrate Valentine's Day. Hmm... Perhaps some Inaba beef fondue, with chocolate sauce?
[msg MSG_NPC_05_10 [Male student]] Tests are coming up soon, but there's still time to procrastinate! I'll keep my all-night studying schedule... huh? ...Did something happen to you? I don't know, but... cheer up! At times like this, I'd tell you to eat a croquette... But recently, even those have started to taste bad.
OKINA [msg MSG_NPC_10_11_1205_040 [Hungry young man]] Inaba, huh...? I hear the steaks are good in Inaba...
OKINA SCOOTER PICKUP CONTEST [msg MSG_NPC_19_NANPA_00_000 [Flamboyant high school girl]] And that guy trying to pick me up was such a loser. That nose piercing of his made him look like a cow!
[msg MSG_NPC_19_NANPA_00_010 [Loud high school girl]] Hahahaha! That sounds awful! What did he think he was, Inaba beef?
DECEMBER FOG [msg MES_015] > The classroom is in an uproar... Male student: I've been thinking that I won't have to worry about anything as long as I do what everyone else is doing. Female student: Yeah, I'm the same way! The TV will tell us what to do! Male student: Yeah, I hardly even care about the fog anymore, either. By the way... Have you heard the rumor about the grilled steak they sell at the shopping district...? Female student: Really? That's not what I heard. I heard that the lady at Souzai Daigaku is... Ms. Sofue: Everyone, please quiet down right-- ...Huh!? What did you just say!? Can you give me any details!? > The uproar only grows louder...
GOLDEN EPILOGUE [msg MSG_007 [Troubled man]] But... what are we supposed to sell in a "locally produced goods" section? I guess the steak kabobs are good, but what other stuff is there? We're not famous for anything else…

izanami is such a fucking asshole with Marie that she says—she's TOLD—she's a "spy" on humanity. a little fucking prick decided by the same bitch that lied to her face like it was breathing. I mean, you can't say iznmi's wrong right now because they know that you kept her alive. Which meant they were there at her tomb (BECAUSE THEY WERE THERE TO PERSONALLY CLOSE HER CASKET). BUT this fucking bastard laughs when they notice for the first time that you have the comb. the comb they should be full aware of where it's going, which hands it's being passed to—IF THEY WERE AWARE IN THE FIRST PLACE. if they actually USED Marie as the spy she was made to believe she is. She's the perfect vessel, the perfect walking nanny cam for Inaba, but NO. the ONLY time izanami has ever seen through her was in her tomb. has ever used her. has ever possessed her. in the realm definitely not for humans. the world they were born in and not an external factor to the nature of their birth.
BITCH gives a poor girl, dressed up as the representation of personality and rebellion and her poet aspect showing her loneliness and isolation, a false sense of purpose right when she was born. that she's just a trashcan for fog with a tomb adorned in flowers and memories at its dumpsite. that she was there to watch people and walk around the human world to remember nothing and be remembered by nobody. if yaldaboath can kick an old man out of his stupid blue office, what more than izanami using a child as a periscope in their guinea pig's dreambase of operations and understand the power of Persona and Truth and Bonds and counteract these meddling kids' and their Power of Friendship in stopping the formation of the New World where they can grant the majority's wish to live in lies and their stupid shitfuck fog.
not that I'm saying I do want god to make full use of their powers and have a better advantage at rigging their social experiment that already concluded by this point but like. fucking asshole didn't even need Marie. so why. put her through so much unnecessary grief. why not dispose her form the start when she'd be thrown away in the end anyway. why make her go through this field trip to remember the home she loves and protects if she could only remember.
why make her suffer through this humanity both of you were supposed to have. make her believe she's nothing and have her put herself to sleep quietly pushing away all the people she loves and who love her when you'll just make fun of her entire existence. did you do this to laugh? were the humans you born from give you the template to make people who search for the truth suffer? that anyone thinking of protecting these selfish masses should just die? that developing humanity is a bad thing? that that's your humor? could you not kill her yourself? was this only for your entertainment? a sick representation of the people who gave birth to you truly are?
#// this some kind of fuck you baltimore kind of shit sorry something happened to me#persona 4 spoilers#persona 5 spoilers#p4#marie persona#izanami persona#⛽️🌫#sulululat#pagsususuri#// actually no I'm NOT sorry I am izanami hater no 1 marie lover forever goodness gracious#// wrapping my head around iznmis motives for years until I'm sick in the stomach because I HATE THEM and I'M SO MAD#// iznmi is such a puppet to me shes so hollow I literally don't know how else to describe it so concisely#// rise was right this bitch has no heart. maybe because of the shitty writing or whatever.#// like you can cut them from their marionette strings or take out their battery to power off and it's just like that#// iznmi is Nothingness but also everything at the same time. a face and voice for the collective that gave birth to them because they're#// humanity itself. they have no substance or 'self' because they're a representation of a collection of egos without their own being#// the only 'personality' you'll get from iznmi is just a representation of this concentrate of human unconsciousnesses and#// iznmi is just some sort of front. gesturing my hands right now ive been thinking about this for YEARS#// marie grew her own ego she cultivated it and took good care of it with friends she could trust and love with the heart she has#// she's 'marie' and it's just so solid and Real to me#// it would make sense that iznmi is gone because they're Nothing to begin with.#// if anything I'd give iznmi the best actor award if you're going to ask me anything#// okay yeah hatership won but so did the sleepies goodnight guys sorry for the yaoi here's my defense

did you know that ummmmmmmmmm Attendant uses boku ボク in regular overworld dialogue (it was mentioned. One Time) and referred to bancho with kimi きみ and kid コ once, but used boku 僕 and kimi 君 in 3/20 dialogue before iznmi thought it was too funny and dropped everythjing and started using watashi 私 .
Namatame uses boku 僕 when hes uh. normal along with kimi 君. and in his diary. but in his crazy era he used ore 俺 and omae お前 in the middle of dragging Nanako around in Heaven and when he's confronted in the hospital at night when Yosuke tried to murder him. he also used omae お前 in that one cutscene of scribbling in his notebook. he uses watashi 私 in formal settings like when he was doing his speech at the train station during the Golden epilogue.
Adachi he uh. uses boku 僕 kimi 君 all the same, even in magatsu inaba. even in Ultimax if i recall right? although he mightve code switched at least once i don't remember. it's only during Visualive he uses ore 俺 and omae お前 ever. not even in The Evolution.
Nanako speaks in third person as shes a kid and addresses everyone politely with -san あだちさん or labels like deliveryman ハイタツの人, she calls her friends with -chan ミフちゃん and -kun タケヨシくん, and bancho onii-chan お兄ちゃん. it might just be in the drama cds but she refers to the IT also with onii-chan (Kanji onii-chan) and onee-chan (Marie onee-chan) but still calls Rise "Rise-chan" and Teddie with -san クマさん.
Teddie. well he uses third person クマ and kimi キミ but I think I did hear him using watashi a few times acting human. hed call bancho with sensei センセイ and the girls with -chan ユキちゃん ナナちゃん and has this love hate relationship with the boys I think going from “Yosuke” ヨースケ to “Hanamura“ ハナムラ.
bancho um. I know Narukami uses ore and omae in the anime and Hayato and Yuuya code switch to boku politely in front of adults in the stageplays. i’ll admit i haven’t checked much manga raws to remember what Souji uses but I think it’s similar enough. he does use honorifics of adults like "Adachi-san," "Margaret-san (??)" and sometimes refers to Dojima as "uncle." I don’t recall him calling Nanako with -chan, and usually uses last names for his peers, "Satonaka," "Amagi," though he does use first names with the boys and the first years.
Marie uses watashi 私 and kimi キミ especially for bancho, but she does have a lot of fun nicknames for the IT. green and red… mister (old-timer)… “someone even I can’t handle”…. she doesn’t use honorifics for Margaret despite being told to.

omgmg cann we hear about yoyur messed up velevet room .
slams pq series on the table. I thought of this for my femc au actually. but there's a bit for gsaslau's canon with Marie but it's not as messed up as the former
ANYWAY here's what i have for the femc part of it. Q SOTL, right? that but it's sukeban and Hamuko. the jig is, the rift isn't so stable that Margaret and Victor never met until Q2 NCL.
the rules I have so far is that bancho and Minato and their friends are contained in their own part of Zen's pocket realm and sukeban and Hamuko's in another. Although this isn't so consistent as both worlds are kind of blurred into each other explaining why Elizabeth and Theo are present for all four parties.
Zen and Rei are present aware of both realities too, but they don't make word about it as to give out less explanations while they don't fully understand it themselves. Theo and Elly don't make much of a fuss about it either while Elly's just excited she can request twice as much and see different results. The SEES and IT from both worlds do meet with each other, but there's not much disconnect since they experienced similar events with their leaders. So unless they mention they have a guy or a girl leader or any leader meets a counterpart from another world then questions would be raised and things would become dissonant.
Q2 Margaret Victor Marie and Stein would finally meet. According to some game canon, even the Velvet Room residents don't remember anything so. whatever.
Stein arrives with Theo and Elly and meets the PT first. All residents finally unite by Junessic Park and Stein makes friends with Marie while Margaret's off doing Megidolaon on Victor when he's trying to hit on Nagi or something. He loses anyway because she says she doesn't drink.
well the thing with Marie is that um. wait i haven't provided context for this /microwave sounds/. anyway she and Mim are connected in one way or another and as said in game canon Mim uses her body which makes her a spy. so walking surveillance cam besides monitoring the people as an attendant. Velvet Room is in freaky territory so what Mim sees is thematically very blurry even when trying to access her memories of the place. But they do know Margaret from Souji and Marie outright mentioning her.
shit goes down later in plot and while Marie gets headaches from remembering things, she also does feel Mim when they're being overwhelmed. she'd write poems of her own memories, but sometimes she'd write of Mim's experiences that she'd be equally clueless about. when Mim does get a crisis it hits Marie as well and would have to lie on Margaret's lap every now and then until it goes away. she'd also cry tears that aren't hers and finally makes it point that "this isn't the voice of my heart."
i also wonder how she does "errands" when the Velvet Room is very much clearly a moving car which she also complains about being completely stuffy and boring to be in. does she like. strap herself and wipe the windows from outside or something. clean the headlights. check the engine maybe
the Velvet Room isn't so messed up per se besides me touching on the rift in time during the Q series which could. end in even more casualties. I haven't even talked about how the drama between Margaret and Elizabeth was completely shattered in Q2 while it kinda. felt too much in the background in the Arena duology, personally. maybe i was just baiting you to make me write more about Marie lol.
anyway gonna complain they didn't have a new cg to show Sho's potential Velvet Room since they're modeled to all their guests or whatever it's still bancho's damn car. maybe due to limitations or whatever but I thought it was fun to see the Velvet Room switch from elevator to limo during the Velvet Room events in Ultimax.
hm more gsaslau. post p4u and Marie visits every now and then, and when Margaret gets permission, they go out and have girl dates checking the human world or whatever. the last few times she had to go out of the room was find Marie who was about to kill herself, throw hands with a teenager to see his power, and warn a god not to interfere with their world possibly being torn apart at that moment and would've gotten her arm bitten off if Marie didn't stop them.
Mim and Marie do go and visit it during the p4d arc when Igor isn't there and it's been remodeled into. a club. They just went to ask permission if they could watch Souji again. When Yal does take over the Velvet Room and splits the Lavenza into half, the two haven't really visited in a while and know nothing about this. They just went to watch Kurusu knowing they have an OK as long as they don't interfere with anything.
By New Year where Azathoth goes messing shit up, Mim's recovered and strategized enough to venture outside Inaba safely to see what's going on. They visit the Velvet Room as an open prison and see Igor and the new attendant, who assures them her sister isn't there. When they're done, they offer Mim to use the room as a conduit to Inaba and save the long trip since making sure some unlicensed doctor old friend not find them and convince them to live in his false reality with the most sincere and human charisma takes a lot of work. also Az's tentacles are everywhere and they're gross they taste like shitty mouthwash worse than a nintendo switch cartridge.
A few times the Velvet Room is in a "neutral" state especially when no guest is undergoing some contract in their reality, but it's not that consistent. It was like that for a while before summer, but word of a new shiny AI is out to brainwash people which makes Mim and Marie visit again and see that it's a uh. prison again. Igor isn't there. again. but Lavenza shows off the iron maidens she's been configuring before they go out to watch Kurusu for another time.

you dont understand how much Chair Car Adventure means to me and how much it explored the attendant's, Mimi's human facade, character and personality and even the dynamic and possible relationship they could have with Adachi.
I do not CARE if im giving them too much credit for this skit. Hell, Asanuma (director and writer) and Masami (Adachi's actor and good friend of Asanuma-san) could've just played p4 once and go "yeahh this guy'll make a gay joke" and say it'll be the funniest thing intermission comedy skit ever. And it was. And it's the best thing ever
The amount of flavor and character they gave this scene and to these characters in particular is just......great. It was literally both their first days. A detective who got transferred out the metropolis and the gas station attendant asking how to use a gas pump. They were both in shambles.
That Adachi bothered to drop his clown act of being stupid and clueless since there was already a clown in front of him, colors and all. But they were truly stupid, truly clueless. Every step in an attendant's protocol to serve a customer, from ushering a car in, cleaning, offering services, and saying goodbye were all done, but executed quite......differently.
They ushered a car in and got it dented. They yelled "attack" instead of "stop." They asked for "regular or replacement" instead of "regular or high octane." They wiped the store's windows instead of the car's. They sang a song the worst way possible. They threw out the ashtray instead of the contents in the ashtray. Made a gay joke. Continued harassing their customer by embarrassing him through the radio. Asked how to use a gas pump. Almost lit a fire trying to smoke at a gas station itself. Attempted to take off their pants for fire safety protocol despite there being no fire at all. Tried to pray for help and safety instead. Tried to make small talk with their customer and offending him again. Laughed at possibilities from the characteristics of his story instead of its contents. Laughed too soon and too hard and fell to the ground.
And they joined hands not from a normal welcoming handshake, but the because they had to be picked up? Which was entirely Adachi's decision and will to even help the guy despite the hell he was put through?
Tumblr media
That later on was it revealed he didnt even think it was all that bad and even treasured that memory somewhat and fought for his life, whining, trying to talk about it even asking the person he's trying to talk to turn off his phone?
Tumblr media Tumblr media
these virtually do not exist in my brain and will continue not to
Tumblr media Tumblr media
i dont wanna say im mad at localization again, but the energy and personality the original jp text and dub was.....washed out in the eng loc. Maybe due to the fact it was hard to even translate casual speech and interpret without dub. But there's just so much facets to this personality of theirs that dont get explored in other media leaving people to interpret them based on 3/20, farewell day--which should be crystal clear--isn't them acting in their facade anymore.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
i dont want to blame anyone either because of how the nature of players and the consumption of content just make it so that these details are so obscured, ignored, or even left out entirely making a whole deal of misinformation that really can't be helped. and of course there's no entirely right or wrong way to view a character either.
Tumblr media
anyway lmao go watch visualive thanks

explain izanami and "touch=persona power" plz, brain confuse
handshake = ability to enter TV ≠ Persona
Although it's widely believed or interpreted by the community that Izanami "gave" bancho (protagnist), Adachi and Namatame the power of Persona that's.....not true at all. Obviously also taking down the idea that Mim gave them "Izanagi" specifically.
A lot of this is explained already in the Magatsu-Inaba arc where Mim possessed Adachi under the name of "Ame-no-Sagiri," which they clarify later on as "a temporary figure of myself I gave birth to" to speak remotely to the IT without actually revealing themself. The only thing explicitly said was the fact that Mim did these things: give three (3) people the power to enter the TV World through joining hands, bestow the same power onto Persona users remotely without physical contact, hide "Sagiri" within Adachi and Namatame individually, create what's known as the "Midnight Channel," and watch Inaba as a gas station attendant being the only other entity outside in the real world originating from the TV World besides Teddie.
Tumblr media
As for Marie, they're both halves to the whole that was "Izanami-no-Mikoto." Mim gave birth to the Sagiri after the split which was entirely their creations, then they all subsequently "returned" into one as Marie. Mim gave Marie a comb merely to symbolize their separation. Also planting false memories in her to make her believe she is actually "Kusumi-no-Ōkami" and making sure she kills herself with the fog. Although said to be a curse, it doesn't actually do much besides act as a symbol. Other interpretations include that this actually triggered Marie into remembering her false memories as Kusumi-no-Ōkami rather than her true memories as Izanami-no-Mikoto; the latter she only recalls by the end of the game.
Every Persona game has been yelling at you that "Persona are the power of the heart" and Mim themself was literally surprised of the power of Persona existing in the first place, initially believing that people would never accept their Shadows as the manifestation of their suppressed thoughts and self.
Tumblr media
It clearly says here and is clearly understood by the IT themselves that this entity also gave them the power to enter the TV, never mentioning anything about Persona at all. Because of the IT awakening to the power of Persona, these individuals could survive the "hollow forest," as how the TV World is currently being described. This convinced Mim to also allow them access to the TV.
In Golden, Marie's tomb also called the "Hollow Forest" is.,..,..,.,. quite different. I like to disregard it for the most part but I may analyze it sooner or later and find an interpretation that fits.
Tumblr media
Those familiar with P5 can also clearly see Yaldabaoth do the same thing with the Metanav, also under his own facade of playing as Igor.
Tumblr media
Anyone confused with Mim's 3/20 dialogue, Farewell Day, Mim refers to the IT's power of Persona as "awakened" powers, but still "bestowed" the power to enter the TV, Inaba's human unconscious, to them. What they mean by "I gave your power a little push" meant giving bancho the power to enter the TV to connect to his own power of Persona. This is the "spark" they mean when saying "Your friends were drawn to the spark I stirred in you." This stems from the interpretation that bancho never had anything to hide or suppress to even manifest his Shadow. His clear of heart going so far as to Izanagi speaking to him while in proximity of a TV--before even entering it at all.
That being said, Izanami also had nothing to do with bancho and Adachi's Personas being variants of Izanagi, either. Although there is a possibility of Namatame also having "Izanagi" as his Persona, the power of Persona depends greatly on the person manifesting this power in the first place.
If anything, his Persona would at least look similar to the angel his Shadow manifested as once it turned "berserk." Like everyone else's Shadow motifs carrying over to their Personas. Despite being called a "Sagiri," that bobblehead mechanical angel with a giant cheap home antenna is still his Shadow. The title of Sagiri comes from the fact it has the power Mim snuck inside him, being more powerful than a normal berserk Shadow in the Golden context, as this is kept rather vague in vanilla.
The reason for bancho and Adachi having Izanagi in the first place is the narrative the game is trying to convey, the usual narrative foils if any adachiboy would like to explain. In fact, in the game itself Magatsu-Izanagi never had the name "Magatsu." People only referred to it as....Adachi's Persona. Even in creator comments towards its design, Soejima mentions the least spoiler-ful way possible,
A Persona used by the person who’s at the core of the serial murder case. Magatsu-Izanagi, born from the swirling emptiness of a man’s heart, is a black and artless figure who is used for the sake of all the person’s wicked desires. Such as fulfilling his pleasures and dealing with the people he dislikes.
As a Persona used by a person who is the antithesis to the main character, and has a Persona of similar form to that used by the main character, it would simply end up being a dark version of it.
Tumblr media
Ending this on a reminder that deities like Izanami and Yaldabaoth are not reincarnations of the actual gods from the myths they came from! They are literally born from the human psyche, unconscious, whatever you want to call it. They're born from, and to serve a collective desire while being inspired by a certain myth, religion, story, or whatever present in the said collective's cognition. It's possible for more than one deity to be present at once, as long as there are multiple collectives wishing for different desires. These deities' powers also rely on their collective, like Mim's fog only being able to cover Inaba.
That being said, Maruki with Azathoth and EMMA being able to affect people farther from Tokyo itself compared to Yaldabaoth may be interpreted by individuals desiring the same thing that powers these deities, adding on to and now being part of the collective making these entities more powerful.

please by all means make a post about adachi and the gsa i would literally die of happiness ( but no pressure i love ur tag essays )
honestly u asking me this already makes ME happy fjdnddjwhcuwhdns mwa
I was honestly wondering where the heck I’d even begin since I don’t know how to condense all this information in one go but I’ve decided to 🥁🥁🥁 overanalyze chair car adventure from scratch AHDNEHCHAJSNWJD (I can’t find any of my previous essays so let’s !!!! do it all over again!!!!!!! /starts running into oncoming traffic/)
Adachi, as I personally perceive, looks like a very unmotivated person. Enticed by cheap things and looking for the easy way out, whether it’s efficient or not. He has no personal belongings he holds sentimental value in as seen in his plain and barren apartment, and the objects he couldn't even recall having when presented to him when his home was searched.
Tumblr media
Despite being incredibly lazy in most aspects, he certainly is bored. Which leads him to start shit even if it’d make things inconvenient for him. Whether it’d be killing people to start a case for his own entertainment, or seeing how much he can poke Dojima until he gets b-grade sushi for dinner—or his own ass whooped.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
He’s a clever and smart guy, but more often than not, he can look…genuinely stupid despite his clear intentions.
The attendant acts very similarly to Adachi’s own facade. But in the context we’re meant to believe, the attendant is their own person; a more genuine "fool" to Adachi’s "jester." If Adachi’s putting on an act to get by, then the attendant is, simply, being themself.
What’s peculiar is that Adachi never bothered to put up his own facade in front of the attendant. One dent in his car and he decided he wouldn’t give the effort. And as he expected, everything would go downhill from there.
And why would he? He wouldn’t even come back here. His car was already breaking down, and he’s experienced firsthand that it’s hard to get around the winding and narrow streets of old, cracking pavement of the maze Inaba makes itself to be. And as if a guy working in the economically suffering shopping district would get payed enough to even bother snitching on a police detective (who, equally embarrassing, was transferred to a backwater city for his own blunder).
A fool meets an actual fool. What would come out of it?
Interestingly enough, an entertaining and unforgettable experience that Adachi would warm up to and remember fondly.
(continuing the analysis down here and more of my au!!!! IT'S SO LONG)
Like mentioned, the attendant is more genuine of their clown personality. They’re polite, they have a sense of humor, overly curious, and do their best to follow the ethics of work. But they’re socially inept, which would probably make their actions, reactions and humor seem insensitive or rude and even unnecessarily nosy. But that’s simply because they aren’t aware of social etiquette or that they may perceive it differently. While their obliviousness isn't meant as an insult because they really don't Know.
Tumblr media
Would Adachi have taken this as inspiration and possibly something to strive for in his own facade he’ll continue acting out for all his time here? Yes. ….to some extent.
The attendant is very good at being “anti-Adachi.” All of this man’s supposedly sly gimmicks wouldn’t work at all because of how incredibly stupid this guy even is. The attendant being the embodiment of “bit confused, but got the spirit,” makes Adachi wonder what this guy knows and doesn’t know. Down the line, it could be realized that Adachi’s been treating this guy like a kid who’s experienced life from watching through a window.
He can’t make fun of them, they don’t know what most insults even are—or they might turn it around and take it as a compliment, at worst. He can’t make himself look good, since they might as well take that context and connect it to a whole new thought entirely and make fun of him instead. He can’t make a joke that’s funny because all they’ll laugh at is how funny this poor man is for desperately trying to make a joke in the first place.
It’s not that Adachi can’t be himself just to interact with guy, but that he has to stop doing things under the intention of trying to wrap this guy around his finger. In fact, all he shouldn’t have any intentions, and just, be himself. There’s no need to strategise and start psychological warfare when it’ll just end up with pies to his face for trying so hard. This is a gas station attendant for pete’s sake.
Granted, he was pissed off. I suppose he was just trying to let out steam, which….just made shit worse if he directed to someone specifically.
Actually, he should just stop being easily offended and see this guy as a kid. Which, as said, is something he’ll realize down the line.
That being said, what would this man in his twenties (he assumes from what the guy said) had been doing for majority of their life to not understand the workings of this cruel world?
—That, or they truly know what’s going on with the world, just like himself.
Bah. They’re just an dumb idiot.
Going back to his first interaction with the attendant, he acts quite decently—kindly, even—when he’s not too fed up with everything. He goes on a rant of his life before Inaba and apologizes for his pessimism immediately after he’s realized it. He’s happy when he’s made someone laugh—well, before being told it was not because of his joke, but of how he himself was funny being related to another context, that is. He responds to all of the attendant’s blunders rashly, but doesn’t do anything to punish them for it and just lets them be (which could obviously be interpreted as Adachi not having any energy for everything, but I’m keeping note of this).
Tumblr media
The most endearing part of all this is that, despite being harassed for the past five minutes straight (all due to a man’s genuine blunders which Adachi understands yet still whines about in accordance to his personality), Adachi sees the attendant crack and start laughing. Maybe the guy laughed because it was obligatory, or maybe they really did find Adachi funnier than his own “jokes.” But in any case, it broke through Adachi’s clouds of anger and annoyance and made him laugh too. (I KNOW THIS IS ON THE ACTOR’S PART OF FINALLY BREAKING CHARACTER IN A LITERAL COMEDY SKIT BUT I DO NOT. CARE). And Adachi could’ve just left them on the ground, but no! He picked them up driven by happy adrenaline and tried his best to get back on his “annoyed man who doesn’t want to be in the hicks” front.
Tumblr media
Actually—the most endearing thing is here is that Adachi calls them “bakabaka.” Varying his “kimi” and the more derogatory “omae.” But if he ever had a fixed name for this unnamed moron, it’d certainly be “bakabaka.” I just find it amusing he’s consistent with this. A name in his brain he associates with one person, with derogatory intent or not.
Tumblr media
And then /TV recording fast forward sound effect/ months later does Adachi try to bring this up.
In the rice fields in the middle of summer in the middle of an investigation does Adachi decide to tell Dojima of the story of his first day in Inaba. Adachi whining about the barrenness of the boonies and getting called a rookie with the usual bold annoyance Dojima holds does Adachi remember of his memory before the flowers bloomed (he said this. it was. kinda poetic when he was literally just trying to the recall the time it happened).
Maybe with the added factor that this would drive Dojima’s attention away from being annoyed at Adachi. But what’s interesting is how Adachi was just so incredibly persistent about talking about this story in the first place.
Tumblr media
Calling the attendant “this interesting guy,” and having a stupid smile on his face starting out each attempt of his narratives with“so I was in my car…” all while bringing his hands up to imitate him holding the steering wheel (oh my GOD I’ll never get over these two scenes). Dojima, too many times to count, gets interrupted by calls to the point Adachi whines as Dojima picks up his phone like a little brat and even going “hey hey :3 y’know u can. u can turn off ur phone, right <:3 y’know that :3 right.”
Tumblr media
All this to talk about the time his ass got grabbed and how he had to deal with five full minutes on earth with the most annoying man alive.
Steering this into the context of my au, it’s funny to think that in this relationship, Adachi’s…actually being his genuine self for once, but with a person putting up an act. Someone he doesn’t have to be fakey smiley around since they’re the one smiling for the crowd. In exchange for them wearing a mask, Adachi can finally take off his own mask and breathe for once.
A nobody in the unusually quiet part of town he can vent to without consequence. He can give the idiot a good smack on the back and he won’t get harassed by their dad or uncle or whatever who’s also his own boss.
Adachi has no inclination to put up an act in front of them, nor would that prove any benefit at this point. At some point Adachi’s become fond of their company and is glad he has someone he doesn’t have to act around. When he smiles, they’re no longer strained or fake. And he actually feels something from it besides thinking of it as an obligation to get by in life.
He can be as empty, hollow, pessimistic, and as sly as he wants. His emptiness would be filled naturally when he finds himself comfortable for once in his life. He might as well call himself guilty for leeching off of someone’s sunshine but he can’t help it when that someone’s a literal ball of light constantly deflecting all of his usual pessimism.
Some days, Adachi’s terrified of all their optimism. Similar to Souji being a guy who can’t stop helping people, would this moron he’s associated with also burn themself out one day? Or were they someone like him, just, even better at acting? And possibly, more empty than him?— But many of these times does his terror immediately subside when they do something stupid.
They do fun things together. They meet at the gas station (duh). They share drinks one of them bought from the convenience store (they take turns). They watch one rant about an annoyingly simple yet unsolvable case while the other gives him the last piece to the puzzle from a rumor they heard from the Housewife Network. In return the one has to watch the other service a broken gas fueled generator and give them the answer to their problem from whatever he remembered his boss mentioned when he gushed about taking care of his bike. Sitting behind the convenience store counter revising reports and counting the bills during the graveyard shift.
It doesn’t always have to be at the gas station. Adachi could go to Samegawa and see them float like a dead body in the river. He could get awkwardly strapped to the backseat of a bike and hanging on to dear life while he’s being cycled away after saying he overslept for work. He could strap himself to the passenger seat of his car while it’s a driven by a maniac drifting through the empty city streets in the middle of the night just to watch fireworks. He could be in Junes and having to be more alert than usual that he doesn’t lose a cryptid in a the supermarket and see twice more cabbages snuck into his basket when he blinks. He could go to Okina and wonder how a con artist got conned by an dumb idiot who doesn’t even want money.
He has to be careful of what he says around an impressionable….adult. Too many times has he stopped them from trying to say anything beyond “but mister detective said—” in front of Namatame, Souji, the old woman, or even Nanako.
They end up talking, walking, shopping, fixing shit, cooking, and even drinking together. Talking about everything under the…rain. Walking and stepping into puddles reflecting moonlight when it showered in the morning. Getting each other things because it reminded them of the other. Teaching each other how to fix and mend things back to what it once was. Or how to make instant ramen more interesting with leftovers, to stir fry cabbage in sesame oil, to heat nimono for longer so the renkon isn’t stiff. Getting one better branded canned beer while the other gets sparkling tomato juice with nine percent alcohol and simply being able to pour each other sake.
Smoking in one’s home because he lit their cigarette himself. Dragging people into his home by writing their parcel address as his apartment and getting the deliveryman to drink with them. Or guiding a boy through a better lit path in the middle of the night to his apartment to deliver him bento made of leftovers. Or simply helping a lady up the steps of the stairs while carrying her pot of home cooked stew.
Adachi being friends with the sunniest person in town who gets even sunnier when the rain pours. The man too good looking for their job but manages to make the dumbest faces. Who constantly smells like petrichor and gas and motor oil. Who has callouses on their hands carrying crates and boxes and tires alike, yet delicate enough to mend a tear with the thinnest needle in the house. Someone so incredibly stupid but would tell you of the dangers of fire in a way they look like they’d risk their life if you didn’t remember.
As for the perspective of the entity behind the attendant themself. Well, I’m sure it’s just as complicated for them.

What's the relationship between Marie and Adachi ??
In canon, there's really not a lot to say about them. But with the crumbs I've gathered, it's pretty interesting to see how they see the other.
In the game, they don't…. actually interact or meet. But in the voice actor interview in the JP exclusive "Mariko's Room," when Marie tries to associate with Adachi, all she says is "Ame-no-Sagiri was inside this person, huh?"
For context about Mariko's Room: Marie, in character, interviews the voice actors themselves while she makes comments based on how she was associated with the VA's character in the story. Like calling Yukiko and Chie "Red and Green" or Kanji "Old Timer"...Yes she interviewed Kana Hanazawa too, it was funny. But I haven't found a English sub of that so...darn.
youtube
(00:21)
Handpicking from the Golden anime, it's nice to see she actually has a [painful] reaction when seeing him in the crowd showing that she's obviously affected by the presence of the power of Sagiri. Which is, y'know, Mimi's power.
Tumblr media
it's obviously strange that she didn't get affected beforehand during the concert itself but, eeh i said handpicked for a reason.
Tumblr media
Despite how much of a mess Arena is, too, and how sloppily they handled Marie (even as just a DLC), Adachi's reactions to her were peculiar. (For discussion, we'll ignore the plot of Arena and just assume this is post p4) Because of Marie regaining her power as the deity of Inaba's collective, it should be more apparent that she actually has power as compared to how weak she was before.
Instead of Adachi immediately talking down every girl he sees like usual, he treats Marie similar to the Velvet Room attendants; "not human" and "powerful" enough to actually warn other people about them.
Another fun tidbit is Adachi saying "If you're lost, try a police box" as if he was aware of Marie wandering around Inaba before bancho came to Inaba and she was taken in by Margaret to the Velvet Room. That he's seen the punk style dressed girl wandering aimlessly around the city.
youtube
(01:44, 04:34)
Now, in a general hypothetical sense, I think they'd be good friends. The "Tsunderes with Shit Bangs" club
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Adachi doesn't really have the inclination to make fun of Marie. And if he would he'd have to do it in a way he isn't smacked halfway through the universe
And with them synergizing as tsunderes of their general feelings I don't think they'd be too embarrassed of each other since they know the other won't say anything about it. Hence why I think Marie would let Adachi in on her poems for his opinion.
There's more to it but I have more shitposts down the line since idk how to explain it now kjfashldgfags
and, uh, i have au stuff down there, so, if u want to 👉👈
So jokes aside,
Going through the same torment of believing oneself to be irredeemable, thus refusing to be saved now that they're so deep into that mindset. Closing their minds to the other opportunities that would actually benefit everyone. Straight up lying about their desires and covering it up with consequences instead.
I've....rewritten the Magatsu Inaba arc (spoilers ooo it was never Magatsu ooooo i wonder who made it that way oooo) so yeah. Adachi's develops in a way he's come to actually adore Inaba as his home, but despises himself for everything that's happened.
I've....rewritten the Magatsu Inaba arc (spoilers ooo it was never Magatsu ooooo i wonder who made it that way oooo) so yeah. Adachi's develops in a way he's come to actually adore Inaba as his home, but despises himself for everything that's happened.
Holing up in a world that lies to himself about his own heart and telling Souji not to save him because of how disgusting he really is as the world presents itself. Pushing Souji away and telling him he's such a stupid kid for believing in the "Adachi" of his own making that he ended up hurting himself. That Adachi believes he's been a heartless man and will never be able to change. That if Souji ever "saves" him, the boy would have to live with the guilt of letting an empty husk that did nothing but everything for his own entertainment continue living. All completely ignoring his own development that's happened within the year. or maybe he. forgot. heh. hehe.h. hehehefnnbgbgnbnbsgngng
While Marie attempts to push Souji away because she's Nothing, that she will have to return to Nothing. She has absorbed the fog everyone knows to be harmful to human life as it turns people into their Shadows. That she is meant to die in order to save them all. She insists she "hates" Inaba, Okina, the IT and everything she's lived through. Spitting venom just to push her loved ones away to stop saving her life or the world will end.
But Adachi wants his bonds. Marie wants the life she made for herself. And Souji manages to give them what they want. The desires they've been hiding.
and you know what happens when you hide your true self. haha. haha h/gets run over/
In the au, there's a lot that happens between them when they first meet and work towards a common goal. Trying to save not one, but two gray-haired people that aren't senior citizens. With all the socially inept people Adachi's had to deal with, I doubt he'd have a hard time comprehending Marie. In fact, she could remind him of someone he knows at this point.
Though after this I don't actually plan on making them interact major plotwise. Anyway, post p4 where she visits in his cell with the moldy tatami mats sometimes. But not as often as another certain someone.

hello kai moeru moelskiyu i would like to hear your top 100 fun facts (doesnt have to be a hundred) about the gslau. tell me about mim. what are they up to. how does hanging out with souji change the way the story goes? how is teddie throughout this entire thing? is it more obvious to himself that hes a shadow or still clueless? also i love your 25th anni souji plush. hes squingus.
Girl help I really did end up making a 100 fun facts list im putting that in another post  anyway /loses my mind/
Yeah Mim’s whole goal’s to observe the humans in the real world and work in the TV world—might as well call it Midnight Daycare at this point. Not to tamper with their independent variables and vastly change the expected results of their experiment but they did that anyway. That nose was right those Bonds can really Have Power to Change the World.
Being appreciated and remembered by these individuals while making these bullshit “bonds” with them certainly wasn’t part of the plan but it was your fault for growing into the character that was meant to be forgettable and disposable now look at what you’ve done to yourself you’ve made more identities that can’t coexist as one entity and is now being torn apart by those opposing wills alone—this is what gaslighting does to a mf you have a live fire and a spinoff sequel now.
also this ended up beig 1.7k woirds
Y’know, this isn’t exclusively Souji having a social link with the gas station attendant that’s actually god who’s been overseeing their social experiment seeing how it affects a whole region, it’s a god who’s been overseeing their social experiment seeing how it affects a whole region that’s also a gas station attendant that has social links with other people, reconnecting to that more empathetic and human aspect of themself that once broke off of them.
Mim only reveals themself to a handful of people in the real world, theoretically making a few social links of their own at that point. There’s Adachi, Namatame and Souji, obviously. But there’s Nanako and the nimono lady too. Not to forget the Shadow selves they met from Yukiko’s to Naoto’s, they learned a lot from those kids, even feeling melancholic they had to return to their human selves. But at least it’s much better to see them turn into a beautiful power called “Persona” than unknowingly ending their own existences because Mim didn’t exactly tell them the whole truth about the nature of the world.
And even from their life before they tore apart. Izy took good care of Sho and Minazuki, talked with the lonely lady who would make nimono for her son again, and even Tatsuhime, conversing with her and taking care of the shrine. Asking the Sun and Moon to help her answer the emas a couple of times.
Namatame’s a lot less despairing, Adachi’s a lot less empty, yet Souji… didn’t think he could get that hopeless.
Namatame’s a bit more optimistic and mopes around less about the passing of Mayumi and Konishi. He has more energy throughout the year and manages to get Nanako to trust a baggy-eyed, probably dehydrated man who stayed up all night in fear. Going to the central shopping district gas station is one of the highlights of the day, if he ever gets the chance to. He’s been able to go out to enjoy more holidays than he would have in canon and hang out with his family and good friends he would’ve shut himself out from.
I uh, would talk about more about Namatame’s SL soon. Souji deliveryboy and gets assigned to work with Namatame. And the sunny gas station attendant he can’t help but tip when he has anything extra.
Admittedly, Souji doesn’t get to work at the gas station as often, besides working there when it rains and he doesn’t have much to do. Sometimes it’d start raining when he works there. As time passes, fortunately, the worst that could happen is the sky getting cloudy at least.
Even without much costumers, many days could still be productive. Souji would often do his homework there ever since Mim suggested it, evidenced by a few oil stains on his note books and his pencil case smelling like car exhaust from leaving it on the shelf. Even his other part time jobs—once covered a whole parking space with cranes. His senpai helped and was surprisingly proficient in making them.
Souji gets to know the old folk who own the place too. Giving him free handmade onigiri that rivals the croquettes by Souzai Daigaku. He feels guilty about still getting paid that one time he slept through a whole shift in the backroom after an exam.
He often goes to the gas station for a bit of pocket change, and some sort of excuse to get away from anything, even his own friends if the situation calls for it. In summer, however, he bombards himself with all his part-time jobs at once to help the fox at the shrine buy Nanako another Loveline umbrella.
Souji’s learned a lot about Inaba from some guy who won’t shut up about the place they’ve lived in their whole life. So much that they don’t really talk about themself. Talking about the people and their time there, Souji’s told their wishes is to simply take care of their home. Understanding his senpai has a life outside of being his senpai at the gas station, Souji just nods along.
Adachi. Well. Let’s just say he isn’t just slacking off at Junes at this point. Some individual just barged into his life and everything changed from there.
Besides the MTS subplot, things change majorly behind the scenes. Well, from Souji’s perspective, obviously. A major explicit(?) one happens by October.
Having to return to their duty as deity that grants the collective’s wishes, Mim decided the most efficient way to get back on track is to erase people’s memories of them another time. Sho is still unaffected by this as the power from comb from Izy transcends that far. But also out of guilt, too. What would happen if the people you considered your closest friends discovered you were nothing but a manifested monster from myth, that of burnt, rotting flesh and a face that screams nothing but curses from Hell itself trying to engulf the world in fog for its people’s sake? Yes, it’s much better they forget.
Souji, who’s interacted with Mim the least, doesn’t really get affected much. Adachi, who’s lost one of his only friends and won’t believe his life was as dull as he “remembers” it, goes mad with all these physical remnants around him of a life he can’t recall. You could say Namatame’s in the middle.
That dream of fate they all had after receiving their powers now fail to match up with what’s ahead of them. No longer a rigid, organized trail of blocks and eerie, yet tranquil fog that reveals nothing but a corridor. Now a road of chaos and conflicting wishes devoured in smoke and ash, if they manage to get that far.
Adachi accepting the request of god now one with him as he will be granted his own desires if he successfully merges realities and ushers in the New World.
Marie writing poems she can’t understand, clutching her head in pain laying on Margaret’s lap crying tears that don’t belong to her. Finally figuring out who that sad voice she hears from her heart is.
Souji finally faltering and falling into his void of despair, none of his friends able to reach him in his false reality filled with fog so thick it’s almost impossible to get to him.
That voice still singing a broken melody as if it forgot the original song. Desperately trying so hard to get it right until falling into a silence so deafening until shattered by the sound of rhythmic weeping, and choking.
Anyway 3/20’s intense. Mim’s saved from their own dumbassery, Kagu’s born, Margaret starts flirting with Mim as her first impression, Sho has a whole hour to sort out it his daddy and mommy issues all at once, suddenly there’s some house in the neighborhood which backyard is a whole forest, the world is saved.
breathes
Anyway Teddie, uh, /shuffles through notes/
He hears a voice in the TV world supposedly singing a lullaby, as seen as it calms the Shadows down especially when the fog returns from when it cleared. He finds it eerie and disturbing, not suitable to lull a bear like himself to sleep.
From Yukiko’s Shadow, she mentions a “manager,” taking care of the station and supervising her during show. Hinting that they also manipulate the fog. Teddie is unaware of any manager of whatever tv station, but the more Shadows they meet, it’s apparent they only reveal themself to those that exist long enough to be hosts of their own shows.
Overtime, Teddie begins to appreciate the melody he once called creepy. Realizing it’s kept him safe this whole time. The Shadows never hurt him as he hid, as if that voice was protecting him, he likes to think. He warms up to the song and thinks of it endearingly.
In an IT discussion, they conclude that meeting “the manager” may also be a viable option to stop people from dying when they’re thrown in. They manipulate the fog and have a high authority in that world, yet they also discuss this manager may have no thought to keep the human selves safe as they manage the Shadow selves’ TV shows in the first place which encourage human selves to be killed.
Whatever it is, Teddie jumps on this chance to ask the IT to help him find this “manager,” and reiterating the voice he hears throughout the world. He makes it part of their promise, they’ll make his world peaceful again and uncover the mystery of this high position individual and the voice that sings its song. Teddie quietly hoping they’re connected, they just have to be. And that maybe they’d give him an answer to who he is. He lightly entertained the idea that he maybe a Shadow himself, but immediately denied it.
He hangs out with Nanako and she started talking about her mom. Teddie attentively listening to her and saying something like “You know who sings you to sleep? Your mama! That’s what Nana-chan told me.” Soon calling this entity he’s unsure of so innocently as his own mother.
And yeah I guess I talk about it more here
And yes. the skgrunkly

eight months in somebody actually asked me abt visualive instead of me immediately annoying ppl about it without former notice. I might actually write properly for once 😳😳😳
OK OK!!!!! In this essay I will.... I will.... Visualive Adachi.... Visu/BURSTS INTO TEARS/
OKAY OKAY for real I just care Visualive so much (as someone who can’t fully understand Japanese AHAHA)
First I’ll add some foundation about what Visualive really is, then I talk abt Adachi in the latter parts of it because this is technically the first time I’m properly talking about this hehe 🐿
T....table of contents???
Visualive
Visualive the Evolution
Masami Itou
Visualive Adachi
Visualive the Evolution Adachi
Terms and Legend
VL - Visualive
VLE - Visualive the Evolution
stage - shortened for “stageplay”
面白い - omoshiroi (it’s just that specific)
Yuuya - VL Hero name
Hayato - VLE Hero name
Baba - Hero
Masami - Adachi
Taniguchi - Dojima
Saotome - Daisuke
Mamiya - Izanami
I add honorifics but sometimes I forget the hyphen intentionally or unintentionally I’m sorry if it makes it hard to read lol
all links have automatic timestamps for easy viewing. i mean. i hope the timestamps work
VISUALIVE “Persona 4.” A stage adaptation of SMT: Persona 4 by Atlus. It adapts the first part of the story, from the hero’s arrival to after recovering Mitsuo Kubo from the TV world. It also ends on a cliff hanger, showing a teaser of Shadow Naoto being projected on the screen.
It takes up a speedy recapitulation of the hero’s spring life, before slowing down and showing in depth his school life in summer. A day before Morooka-sensei’s death, there is a little skit with Kou, Daisuke and Adachi. The hero walks into the conversation before the two other boys leaving, and Morooka-sensei walking in on the student and detective. The next day follow’s the teacher’s death and the Investigation Team (IT) begin investigating their new lead.
From the words “visual” and “alive,” the niche of this stage was meant to be the fusion of live acting and visual digital projections. All seen from the stageplay with the colorful cast of actors and CG animations being projected on the screen. This offers an opportunity for characters to summon their personas, perform cool visual effects, change the backdrop, or even confront their own Shadows.
Performed in Sunshine Theater from the 15th to the 20th of March 2012. The screenplay was written and directed by Shintaro Asanuma from the theatrical group “bpm.” The video production produced by Shutaro Oku, a film director and visual planner. He later takes over as director for VISUALIVE THE EVOLUTION, the sequel stage. The stage music was produced by Shunsuke Wada, with a special show exclusive vocal track sung by Shihoko Hirata.
On this note, I haven’t seen any sort of original soundtrack released for any of the stages and I’m SO SAD. The last song in Mitsuo’s boss fight was such a BANGER and literally EVERYTHING ELSE Marvelous, Wadasan please take my MONEY
Regarding the cast, there were some special accommodations for Teddie, Rise, and Nanako, all of which did not have live actors at the time. During the casting, actors for the three characters could not be found or simply left the directors unsatisfied they couldn’t cast anybody. An exception for Rise, who was able to have a live actor in the sequel stage. It has been stated that there weren’t any “pretty boy” actors that fit the “Teddie Criteria.” While there weren’t any child actors that were believed to portray Nanako well.
Teddie was only ever seen in his bear costume while Rise was busy talking through a call, all voiced by their video game cast. Nanako has never appeared on stage, only being scarcely mentioned in the script. Again, this is different in the sequel stage where her role was extremely important and was shown as a screen projection.
VISUALIVE “Persona 4” THE EVOLUTION. A sequel stage. Beginning abruptly in the middle of Shadow Naoto’s boss fight, the story continues from there until the “true end” of the game’s original story. *Certain characters are introduced while others have been reintroduced. And on a personal note, when it’s all comedic in the beginning, it’s all for what’s coming right after.
I don’t know if I’m salty or just find it really funny AHAHA I might go talk abt it some other day with more context ehehe
Performed in The Galaxy Theater from the 3rd to the 9th of October 2012, only a few months after the PSVITA Persona 4 Golden release, which is July 2012. The screenplay was now written by Jun Kumagi while directed by Shutaro Oku. And music production finally taken over by Shoji Meguro himself.
---
HAHAHA this is starting to look like a wiki page. moving on. I might start rambling rn
(warning LONG !!!! aaa,,)
My thoughts on the stage adaptations. For the first Visualive (VL) I believe it’s pretty close to canon! I enjoy the characterization and how much love and care was present when handling the entire production.
Actors were busy playing the game itself, wherein a PS2 was present in the practice room. Along with magazines and game guides explaining the game’s story and the characters itself. Actors performing together and even improv acting together to get a grasp of their characters. All of them knowing well of Persona 4 as a well loved game, delicately handling their characters and hopefully performing them right while making the audience happy.
The staff taking care of each other while the director and video producer, Asanuma-san and Oku-san, working together well to make their vision into a reality.
The same thing happened with VL the Evolution (VLE) and literally every other good stage. Except... I feel the script kinda got out of hand with too much liberty where it feels a bit more disconnected from canon. But! It makes up for it in its content, whether comedic or (INCREDIBLY) dramatic! It’s great as its own story at that point. So in this case, I like to take the first VL and get to connect it canon, while I don’t know what the hell happened in VLE to the point I’ll just enjoy it as its own content.
These opinions deserve its own essay, post whatever bc I have SO much to say abt this. ANYWAY. VL ADACHI
---
Tohru Adachi is portrayed by Masami Itou (伊藤マサミ), a screenplay writer, director and an stage actor himself. He does have a single character voice role along with a fellow troupe member in the same franchise, but mostly works as the former three. He is part of Asanuma-san’s entertainment group “bpm.” On a similar note, Masashi Taniguchi, Dojima’s actor, was also part of their group from 2011 to 2016, which may explain their good synergy as the boss and the bumbling fool dynamic. I mean, somebody’s gotta get hit in the head every few skits.
With Masami-san being an important part of the cast, he doesn’t appear as often as Taniguchi-san in backstage content like the VL bonus disk or the official blog. Mentioned in his own personal blog, he had been busy with his roles as assistant director (I am assuming also for VL).
Also fun to note, because his role is mainly comic relief, he has been using his liberty to change up the material almost everyday making each performance exciting. This also leaves some other actors jealous of his freedom in his role, such as Saotome-san, Daisuke’s actor.
---
VL Adachi really has a... how do I say this? an adorable speech pattern (THE SAME SPEECH PATTERN THAT DROVE ME MAD TRYING TO DECIPHER I THOUGHT YOU WERE A CITY BOY OSSU OSSU MY ASS /shakes you violently/). Overall, he really fits the loose lipped bumbling fool, and his accent really makes him seem more casual and invested. What I’m saying is... VL Adachi either actually has genuine empathy or he actually has more energy to fake it (compared to some other edgelord. i mean you saw my p4ga analysis. I’m sick of him lol ahaha).
One of my favorite ways to explain this (OTHER THAN CHAIR CAR ADVENTURE MY BELOVED WE’LL GET TO THAT LATER) is the rice field scene with him and Dojima. It’s overanalyzation time 🎉
youtube
(43:04)
While investigating, Adachi whines about being tired while Dojima smacks him in the head. In this case, it’s established that Adachi doesn’t want to be there, yes? It’s the country, it’s hot and it smells like green.
"Ah... Dojima-san..! Why don't we take a break? (...) There really is nothing out here... Is the criminal still even here at all? (...) I wonder if I've passed being a rookie yet. Haha, but this city doesn't even have convenient transportation. I can't go to leisure lands (recreation, amusement parks, arcades, ect.) and head home at all."
Adachi then tries to tell Dojima a story. “when I got to this city after being newly assigned, I met an interesting guy (...) Yeah, I remember that the cherry blossoms haven't bloomed yet. So, I was driving my car and got near the station and--” Dojima gets a phone call.
Adachi politely puts his hands down waiting for his boss to finish so he can finish the story. Again and again, Adachi attempts to talk to Dojima about a story he’s so persistent trying to tell someone about. It was so 面白い that he would find someone to talk to about it. Even being polite and patient enough to wait for a chance to speak. He even gets fed up with it and blows up in front of his boss, clearly irritated he’s not given a chance to talk.
Sure, it could be Adachi feeling fed up like a normal person where someone agreed he to listen to him, before being constantly ignored. Or Adachi trying to be a more annoying whiny brat, depending on where you look at it.
If the story wasn’t too “interesting” to Adachi, he would’ve just brushed it off and stopped talking to Dojima entirely, or start up new small talk, or even complain some more. But no, he had a story he wanted to voice out so bad that he got irritated that the one person in the vicinity couldn’t listen to him.
Only after Dojima told him to continue their investigation elsewhere did Adachi finally stop and focus on something else. Maybe that story was for another day, or maybe it was never meant to be told.
What if it was just original (game) Adachi? He’d find a way to squirrel out of the investigation as usual, or push Dojima to “investigate” elsewhere. “Hey boss, don’t you think it’s hot? Why don’t we go elsewhere? We’ve seen this place too many times to count and I doubt anything new’ll turn up. How about we take a break at Junes, y’know? Where it’s cool? C’mon boss,” something like that.
og Adachi is just really annoying and silly to me. Some grown man thinking he can freeload because he never gets anything out of putting in more energy and effort? I don’t care how tall he is, I will smack him in the head.
Yeah VL Adachi whines, too, but at least it doesn’t look like he’s going to escape and waste his time somewhere else. He just sucks it up stops trying to leave the situation.
Or maybe I’m getting this all wrong and VL is exactly the same and my rage just gets dampened because of Masamisan’s execution of character hmm...
SO. What was his story about anyway? The one he really wanted to share to Dojima?
I mean... it’s obvious enough
youtube
First day in town? Spring? Actually mentioned driving a car when literally out of every single persona 4 media at the time was there not a SINGLE mention of Adachi having a car OTHER THAN the same stageplay it’s being mentioned in?
A story, from somewhere around uhh four? five months ago? was something that he remembered so dearly and was willing to share despite it obviously embarrassing him even if he puts the blame on a certain somebody in the same story?
Or maybe it’s because he really had nothing to talk about ever since he realized all his stories from the city weren’t actually that funny or interesting in the first place.
BUT then that would mean out of all the things he could talk about—more whining, complaining, complimenting, small talk—he insisted about talking about this story in particular.
Okay, look. I’m just. Just. As someone who talks too much, of course I have things I actually want people to hear out of all the bullshit that comes out of my mouth. And if the thing I actually want people to listen to doesn’t even get heard, I’d go mad.
Sure, Adachi’d be fine when his complaints or intentionally unfunny jokes get brushed off. But a story of a guy that he thought was so funny, interesting, 面白い gets ignored, he really blew up, even just for a split second, maybe.
And ALL the things that happened in that story—on his first day in Inaba! His car got dented, he had to deal with a weirdo dumbass employee that knew zero personal space, yelled in his ear, who didn’t know how to do their job, got his station reputation messed up on the first day, got his ass grabbed, got (unintentionally?) mocked for his lame stories, and got his car dented for the SECOND time. Probably MORE
And he STILL wanted to talk about it /punches through concrete wall/
yes I’m overthinking about this of course i am
This little tidbit of VL Adachi kinda makes me go insane sometimes—his entire characterization in VL in particular. It was really refreshing to see and how they included both of his characters in it, his facade and how irritated he is of a lot of things underneath. And how flexible his character is immediately working with other characters when there’s sudden improv to balance the situation. Like him and Dojima, Morooka, the attendant, or even Yuuya (hero) himself.
I’ll take Taniguchi-san’s messing around in the VL bonus backstage disc in place of Masami-san being so busy he couldn’t appear in it as often as other characters.
For stagetime that lasted for fifteen minutes or less, my appreciation for VL Adachi, even if he was just comic relief, really rocketed. I say VL, bc Adachi the edgelord he’s supposed to be in literally every other media is something I analyze separately.
I haven’t even gotten to VLE oh my GODDDDD
Like I said, I don’t really regard VLE close to canon but as something to be appreciated for what it is by itself. But the way Adachi was characterized there, in or out of character, still struck me.
---
Yes, there was his strange fan-agreed-canon which is,,, now canon obsession with cabbages (not that that’s a bad thing lmao). There was also him being a lot more jumpy and intimate in a clowny way, patting people on the shoulder or even downright hugging them just to mess around. Even FORGETTING who the same goddam loser who grabbed his ass almost a year ago is. But like, can’t blame him they literally changed their actor (and screenplay writer) AHAHAHA
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
ha... no more comedy, only dorky sword fights now
(speaking of sword fights I think it’s a fun thought how Mamiya-san [Izanami, also one of the youngest in the cast] admitted it was his first time doing sword fight choreography and even thanked Masami-san and other staff members for guiding him)
One thing unintentionally in character was Adachi accidentally nabbing the sushi overdosed in wasabi. Masami-san didn’t actually account for a joke sushi and didn’t immediately eat it—until Taniguchi-san (who also made Dojima go off his shits compared to VL) jokingly yelled at him and even riled up the audience for him to eat it. He even went off stage to get water just for him to eat the goddam sushi.
And Masami-san did! (kinda choked, but he’s fine).
Continuing from the same scene, while being overly giddy about sushi dinner (and I mean overly--he was singing about it while hopping to the Dojima residence), he tried to remind the two, Dojima and Hayato (hero), that Nanako was sleeping. Probably where she was sick if the scene was translated from the game.
youtube
(30:07)
And... the dramatic parts of VLE
Adachi was the one who reported to the IT that Dojima was chasing Namatame in the rain. While Naoto was discussing Namatame’s journal entries, Adachi, as giddy as he is, took it from Naoto’s hands and reveled in the discovery of evidence so childishly(?). He even ran to Dojima when he began regaining consciousness and immediately called the nurses to help him wheel Dojima to the ER.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Then, The Hospital Scene™️, right after Nanako flatlines.
youtube
(1:02:02)
Adachi, who recently walked into the scene, immediately worries about Dojima and IT who were ALL crying. He looks down, devastated—before yelling how Dojima’s heading to Namatame’s room.
He yells in terror and the same grief at his injured boss, all while running past and even jumping over children, who fell to the ground sobbing, to get to him. He continues yelling in a pained fashion while immediately reprimanding Dojima to stop. He gets carried by the collar before being tossed to the ground at Hayato’s feet, all while being pat by the same boy.
Dojima makes his speech about how unfair it is for the ‘killer’ to be alive when his daughter isn’t. When he finally falls to his knees, Adachi rises from the ground, humbly saying he’ll do his best to take care of Dojima (or something like that I’m in tears I literally can’t do VLE’s hospital scene i h8 this). He finally starts crying along with everyone else, being pushed away again but still tries again, trying to usher his boss away from the door.
With the help of the guard in front of the door, they all disappear off stage
please... I know this scene doesn’t need that much translation because of how important this scene is in the entire story. and I know my narratives aren’t enough so just,,,, just watch it please it’s so much more than this. everyone’s acting was just spectacular
youtube
(1:08:47)
So, after the IT (YOSUKE. JUST YOSUKE. good job Mae-chan) stop themselves from k wording Namatame, it was ADACHI who reported Nanako’s miracle recovery. He ran to the same corridor where they all cried in, even panting and falling to the ground in relief trying to report the good news. Then he pats Hayato on the shoulder and says he’s going to Dojima.
With this... /slaps roof of half of VLE/ ALL of this....adachi.... adachisan.... he Cares™️..... holy shit.....
now. comparing to the game. do you even remember what og Adachi did? did he.. even do anything?????
youtube
(56:39)
NO!!! he just stood there!!!! being a bumbling fool but.... inappropriately!!! man. he didn’t act concerned enough.
adachi: /walks into a bunch of kids crying outside a hospital room/ “lmao why tf are y’all crying? did uhhh what’s her face uhhh nanako. did she d word or something? rip, I guess lol” LIKE????? CAN YOU IMPLY FASTER
and then he’s like “wgat hmm Where’s Dojima-san Heading Because That’s Not The Way To His Room 🤔” and only when he’s asked he actually mentions he’s heading to Namatame’s room and still needs to get choked by a first year for the room number like..... zero consideration
and his boss??? where his daughter he loves so much just??? di*s???? and he’s so devastated he’s doing what he can that very moment while he’s so numbed of thinking of the consequences???? And adachi goes “uhh boss that’s illegal” LIKE. BITCH. /punches through a concrete wall but harder/
---
And??? His confrontation scene??? Like, I know they mashed it up w his tv confession scene to save stagetime for other scenes BUT IT WAS SO MMBMBMBMMGN /gestures in a good way/
youtube
(1:15:56)
UM?? guy behind everything??? in a vulnerable area where he could easily get physically assaulted bc hes not in the tv world w his persona?? Trash talks women like he absolute misogynist he is??? getting yelled at by a bunch of kids and YELLING BACK IN THE SAME AGITATED MANNER even TAUNTING THEM then and there to GET HIS ASS?????
og Adachi was such a pussy he got caught and just scurried off into the TV world where he ended up having powers like...ok....scared of getting beat down by a bunch of highschoolers unless you have powers...ok....
he only taunted them to get him when he was in the tv world too.....he rlly couldn’t say shit in the real world huh... lol
(yeah yeah this shows how VLE Adachi knew abt his TV world powers which would make you think if he ever went into the tv world and came back out alive. Or he’s really just a badass who doesnt give a shit abt anyone’s opinions and CAN beat anyone’s ass. i have a separate thing abt this but bc i like to laught at vle rather than overthink its own lore i might. not. idk lol)
and ??? VLE Adachi can??? He can swordfight??? he doesn’t even NEED a gun—he even reflects bullets w his blade (but apparently he can still get slapped by a flying fan more often than any other attack). His fight choreo was just...so poggers. He’s like short villains done good—like??? he’s short compared to everyone else!!! but he makes up for it for stuffing all the energy inside him while is bursts out making him him the over energetic gremlin he is!!! go VL adachi!!!!
(am I low key making fun of Madono-san in the TUUSH stageplay I’ve seen four minutes of? maybe)
OK!!! Yes I was gushing abt Masami-san again back to Adachi.
It’s portrayed that while not being afraid to admit his crimes, he also goes out of his way to be a bastard and have the gall to get a bunch of kids to fight him, one on eight. He can use a katana, probably a narrative dark reflection of the hero, Hayato which I thought was nice—and he can fight!!! It also shows his persona, yes, but...it doesn’t make it clear if he’s overwhelmed by his Shadow like in the game, where his eyes were yellow and he was emitting a dark aura.
But it gets interesting how he sees he’s getting overwhelmed and starting to lose his edge towards a bunch of kids. He falls to the ground even banging the floor like a whiny brat while literally the IT tries to tell him to turn himself in. Again, like a brat he tells everyone to shut up—before getting incapacitated. While some of the IT rejoice, he bolts up unaccepting of his defeat—before getting hit in the stomach.
youtube
(1:23:54)
And his words from when he drops his katana, “Why..?” He grabs the foldable chair against his stomach, and with a remorseful look in his eyes, he says “I’m sorry..!”
THEN HE BACKFLIPS—then Hayato slashes him.
In a tone of disbelief, he goes “no way...” and collapses to the ground, being possessed by Ame-no-Sagiri.
Blah blah blah then Teddie rockets himself into the eyeball spy cam and then they both explode aaaaa
