Hvar, Croatia June 2017

Some of my best pics from our family holiday Hvar, just an hour away from Split by catamaran. It’s changed quite a bit over the last few years. This pretty island has recently had some bad press. July-Sept is recommended that you stay clear as the poor locals of Hvar town have to watch their town turn into a noisy party town. Set that aside……….. We visited in June and didn’t see too much of that. Hvar town- Lovely cobbled lanes with restaurants, bars, bakeries and shops lining the streets. Pretty port which attracts the rich with their luxurious yachts. The Fortress ( Medieval castle) perched up high looking over the port is well worth a visit even if it is just for the view of the harbour. You can walk up and down to the castle. We were lazy so took a taxi for 100 kuna. Then walked back down the lovely shaded pathway. We hired a car for the day to explore the island a bit more. There is a local bus service however it doesn’t run that regular and the last bus back from any of the towns we wanted to visit was quite early. So we thought the car would be the best option to see more of the Island. Here’s where we visited. Stari Grad Lovely town with many, many cute cobbled streets. Lots of restaurants and bars and a Beautiful harbour. Vrboska Quant little village. Small selection of restaurants. We actually had the best pizza here, was amazing. Really peaceful and chilled out. Jelsa This was my favourite town we visited on the Island the day we hired the car. Jelsa had a lovely feel. Pretty town the locals call Little Venice. Centred with a lovely church, surrounded with some nice bars and restaurants. We ate dinner in The Flying Pig. Lovely food with a great selection of beers which impressed my partner. If you get time make sure you visit The Pakleni Islands. We only had time to visit one Island Palmizana. Really beautiful and quite tropical. Lovely beach with some great restaurants. We took a water taxi to the island, but you can hire a small boat of your own for around 500 Kuna a day if you prefer the adventure.

▫️ The small island of Lastovo, located far out in the Adriatic, is a harsh but worthwhile destination. Declared a National Nature Park in 2006, sparse, barren Lastovo warmly welcomes visitors who arrive by ferry from Split, Hvar and Vela Luka to its port of Ubli.
