Sometimes I find projects-never-finished on my laptop — see this movable book/electronics idea about transportation and travel. I’m not sure where the actual physical objects are. This sketch was called Local Travel. Paper Circuits

Materials Needed:

Paper

Conductive Adhesive Copper Tape (Amazon or Adafruit)

Clear Tape (to tape down battery)

3V coin cell battery (Amazon)

LEDs (Amazon)

scissors (to cut tape)

Design your card.

Draw out the circuit. NOTE: Do not let the negative and positive tapes cross. Make sure positive (long) side of the LED goes to positive (+) side of the battery and negative (short) side of the LED connects to the negative (-) side of the battery.

Fold the corner of your page to create a switch for your battery.

Trace copper tape along circuit, folding back and forth to create corners.

Tape down one half of the battery with nonconductive clear tape.

Fold over your switch to connect the circuit.

Your card should light up!

Today we made a start in our group assignment of hacking a board game to make it more interactive. The original board game that we had was a bingo spinner type board game, and we have decided to re-modfiy the whole game to have different rules and added electrical components. Here me and Connor are working on the electronic aspect of our board game and are building the baseline of our prototype board game on paper. We are testing and trialing ways to make the spinner light up an LED when the arrow shaped side of the spinner stops on a small strip of tinfoil on the board. The arrow shaped side of the spinner has a strip of copper tape underneath which connects to the square area of tinfoil surrounding its main body. A strip of tinfoil is connected with the square area of tinfoil, and that also pokes underneath the paper to meet the rest of the papercircuit.

This is the paper circuit underneath that connects the battery to the LED light, and finally to the spinner on the top. Theoretically the circuit is meant to operate as an open circuit, until the spinner comes into contact with a small strip of tin foil on the topside of the paper. This is then meant to complete the closed loop circuit, and finally light up the LED. However we have encountered the issue of trying to get the LED to light up everytime the spinner makes contact with the specific strip of foil. We speculated that this was mainly due to the fact that there wasn't enough contact between the copper tape and the tinfoil, so that equated to there being an insufficient amount of current flowing into the circuit and therefore the LED light.

Here im testing and moving the spinner a little while applying abit of pressure to allow the spinner to make proper contact with the strip of tinfoil. This was to help support the current flow as it would occasionally stop passing through the circuit to light up the LED. However as seen above when the LED would light up, it was just a brief flicker of light and did not stabilize.
