Tomtoc Navigator-T61 Rolltop Backpack 20L Review
I Recently ordered a backpack after years of using shoulder bags. I still like my briefcase/shoulder bags for client meetings or office scenarios, but they’re just not convenient for travel or out in the field work. I didn’t need a backpack specifically for cameras because I use a Sony point/shoot camera and/or a small Sony camcorder, so no extra lenses or flashes are needed to be packed. But, I definitely need something that can protect my MacBook and other gear/necessaries.
That’s when I discovered @tomtocbags a relatively newer designer/manufacturer of laptop sleeves/bags/backpacks and gear cases. I really like the modern and sleek designs of their offerings. I also like their sustainability features: Manufactured with at least 50% recycled materials, manufactured at facilities that protects the rights and health of workers, and made with chemicals safer for people and the environment. They seem to be going for the market taken up by more expensive bag manufacturers like Timbuk2. Tomtoc was a refreshing and pleasant finding.

What I like about this backpack:
Modern, sleek, sustainable, and durable design.
Ample room for gear, clothes, and other necessities. Especially when rolled all the way up. Nice padded protective pockets for both a laptop and tablet, and slots for additional gear/tech.
Water resistant materials and waterproofed front pocket and back access zippers.
Expandable side pockets that can easily accommodate larger water bottles.
Quick access back zipper for laptop/tablet pockets, luggage strap on back, and a nice key hook/strap inside front side pocket.
Comfortable back padding and padded shoulder straps (no sternum strap, which I don't mind) with three carabiner loops on each side.
Price points that are much less than what companies like Timbuk2, Stubble&Co, and Wandrd are charging.

My wishlist for Tomtoc:
Side mount/compression straps to secure a longer umbrella, taller water bottle/thermos, and/or tripod would be nice. The backpack does have two top loops on both sides of bag that a carabiner paracord (see 1st above photo) or something like a Think Tank Photo Disguise Strap could be attached to.
I would have liked the inner lining to be orange, bright yellow, or lime green for visibility when searching for things inside.
I would have liked the bag to be a little larger at least aesthetically. I’m taller/larger (6’ 1” over 200lbs) so when not fully rolled up it looks a little small on me. Not an issue when the backpacks fully packed and rolled up (expands from 17 to 20L) though. However, I can see the size being a benefit when traveling by plane or when getting around in a city environment.
Though not that big of a deal, waterproofing the top and front side zippers like the front pocket and back access ones would be a smart move going forward.
Along with the carabiner loops, I wouldn't mind seeing a D ring on one of the shoulder straps in the future. But, nothing that a carabiner paracord (see 2nd above photo) wouldn't solve.
Final thoughts:
The Tomtoc 17-20L Navigator Roll Top Laptop Backpack definitely strikes a nice balance between great quality and affordability, making it one of the best minimalist roll top backpacks available at this price range. Not only is it constructed with durable materials, but the inside is ample enough for clothes and gear perfect for both short leisure and business trips, and also daily commutes and onsite work. Definitely recommend this backpack. Looking forward to checking out more of their products.

Update: I attached an 8Link Quick Release Magnetic Sternum Strap. Helps when I’m carrying more than usual and especially while traveling/away.

This has been my regular set up this summer. The Olympus E-M10 mark 4 and the dirt cheap 7artisans 25mm f/1,8. And a simple paracord strap.
While the camera is fairly new, I suspect any mark of the 10 would do, as it's only used in manual focus.
The strap costs pennies, but when perfectly adjusted works great, and takes nearly all the weight of the camera. Can carry it for hours.

Pretty and Practical! Langly Paracord Strap Review
It's only $40!
The Langly Paracord is a camera strap I was super curious about. This website has reviewed tons and tons of camera straps. But the Langly Paracord seemed particularly fascinating. I had a feeling it would break, but it didn’t. In fact, it ended up holding its own with one of the heaviest mirrorless cameras on the market right now. And overall, I think I’ve fallen head over heels for the Langly…

My paracord stash! With college around the corner I'm hoping to make a quick buck on the side for food once books and tuition are paid in full. Meaning I'm open for commissions! I can make a variety of accessories- currently learning how to weave "Monkey Fists" to add to the list of what I can make. That list is: Bracelets, Belts, Wallet Leashes, Sunglasses Leashes, Laptop Case Straps, and Camera Case Straps. I'll offer Monkey Fists once I master the weave. Be sure to ask on color availability because once this side hobby takes off, the colors will constantly flux. I can only accept PayPal payments since I'm very new to this commissions idea and PayPal is the only thing I know how to use. If you don't or can't buy something, I'd humbly appreciate a reblog to boost. DMs open for interest. C:

What A Day
Did some major grocery shopping, cleaned tf out of the kitchen (and bathroom) at 3:30 AM, and even managed to make a REALLY cool #DIY tobacco pipe holder out of a strap from a Leica camera. It was a Leica Sofort (cheaper camera) that didn't need the strap at all and it was going to get pitched, anyway, so I made it into a billiard holder! :) I just measured it down the middle perfectly and then snip snip on each side, and then lashed the two cut ends together with a small piece of 550 paracord, and walah! Tobacco pipe holder!
Speaking of that, I am not sure if I went into much detail about me quitting e-cigs, and going 100% tobacco pipe. Fact is: there is no way I amgo0ing to end up with chemical-induced pneumonia or whateverthefuck it is that people are getting and ending up in the ICU with. Traditional tobacco is not healthy, I know this, but I cannot stand to go back to traditional cigarettes, and vaping (e-cigs) are now 100% out of the question. I have been smoking a pipe since Nov. 2018, and I really enjoy it. A whole galaxy of things to learn and I compare it to being somewhat of a tobacco connesieur (probably spelling that wrong) than just a "smoker". There is no inhaling with a tobacco pipe, either, so that is good.
So how did I get into all this? Well, I saw people smoking tobacco pipes and I wanted to try it so I Google "tobacco pipe" and PipesandCigars.com popped up, I looked around, found what I wanted, and made an order. That's it! Just on a whim. That was November of 2018 and I am glad I "acted" on the whim and made the order because the blends I have tried since then, the things I have learned in the YTPC (YouTube Pipe Community), the interactions in the IGPC (Instagram Pipe Community) have all been worth it and I enjoy the baccy while I am at it! :)
And I am (metaphorically) pouring one out for a big R.I.P. to electronic cigarettes. I knew they were too good to be true. Now they are commercial (and deadly, unfortunately), but, I remember a time when they were brand new (2010) and there wasn't even talk of FDA approval for this or that, and the tobacco-flavored e-juiced tasted just like that, tobacco. The e-cigs were bare bones basic and everyone who DID have one had the same model you had (unless they used the BLU or whatever, which are dangerous now, too).
Anyway, tobacco prevails! RIP and good riddance e-cigs.
Be back in a bit!

hi!! i was wondering the difference between pull straps, counterbalance straps, guide straps, and metal mobility handles? also it seems like there's different levels of rigidity for all the different straps and handles? thank you for your help!
Pull strap
Non-ridged. Flops on the dogs back, can be any length. You put pressure on it by pulling back (lightly) on it as your dog pulls forward. Can (and generally only is) used in motion. This one is rope, but they also come in fabric, leather, and paracord, depending on the shop. This one comes from Akracreations.

[Image description: brownish service dog with back facing the camera, wearing black vest with black patches and has a rope pull strap]
Counterbalance handle
Semi-ridged, stands straight up on dog’s back (close to shoulder), generally should be under 6″. You can also put light pressure on this one; usually to the side as your dog leans the other direction. Can be used in motion. Mostly will be fabric or leather. This one is from Purple Poodles.

[Image description: Parti poodle service dog positioned to the side, looking off camera, wearing rainbow and black y-front harness with “service dog” embroidered on the shoulder strap, and counterbalance handle.]
Guide Handle
Usually semi-ridged, sometimes not, lies mostly flat on the dogs back, used mostly as a communication device between the handler and dog, and not with much pressure or tension at all. Can be used in motion. I’ve seen them in fabric, leather, and paracord. This one is from Yupcollars.

Bracing/Ridged Handle
Rigid handle, stands straight up on dog’s back on the shoulders. I’ve only seen these in metal and leather, but they can be either. You put downward pressure on the handle, shouldn’t be over 6″, should only be used when stopped. This one is from Bold Lead Designs.
