So I work in a school right? Right.
Does anyone know anywhere that would have a glasses chain that can like. Magnetically comes apart in the back. In case my kids pull at it. Thanks in advance

Also, if you wouldn’t do this job, how much would you say the position “deserves” or “should” be compensated for what the position requires of the employee?
My union just brought a tentative agreement to us and we vote on it today. The wage increase is less than satisfactory, it isn’t terrible. However, there is virtually no longevity incentive. After the raise, I will be making less than $2/hour more than a new hire in my position and this is my 8th year. A coworker who is on her 29th year only makes $7/hour more than I do.

Guess I completely forgot to mention that I have a new job; it being in the school system as a Paraeducator (for a nearby middle school). It’s been very insightful as to how I work in social situations as I haven’t really had that in my previous jobs/ workspaces.
Hints why I haven’t been too active in here in a while. I began in late August and made it through the first quarter. So now I can kinda give myself more free time with my schedule worked out.
Also, Happy Halloween! Enjoy the candy, spooky festivities! And I hope to become more active on here once again. 🎃 👻 🍬

I'll never forget the time two years ago when my dad said, "I don't know what you're talking about. There are affordable houses everywhere," then started sending me $650k-750k houses around Puget Sound.
Like, I appreciate the blind, fantastical, delusional confidence in your daughter, but... how much money do you think I make?
#home buying#2023#and i make decent money#but the bank will only let tou borrow so much#and unless he was planning on gifting me $250k#the wild part is that my dad was a truck driver#and my mom was a paraeducator#so they werent rich#just totally out of touch#they bought their house for 160k in 1992 and it would sell for close to a millions today

I really struggle to explain what I do for a living.
Yes I play video games and make people smile. Oh my real job? I sat next to an 18 year old yesterday and helped him color with crayons.
What do you mean my real real job? That is it! He smiled and nothing got destroyed. Day successful!

Paraeducator E-learning from DESE
DESE is creating a series of e-learning modules to help districts train and onboard paraeducators. Your ideas and suggestions are needed! Paraeducators are often left out of the planning and development of professional learning. While districts should still provide high quality learning opportunities for all paraeducators, the Department of Elementary and Secondary Education in developing a…

As an adult, if a child can manipulate you, that is you making a choice (subconsciously, if you must claim it as such) to give in already.
Also; Crying/outbursts from the child's needs being unmet are not manipulation. Just in case that's what you were assuming, as a lot of folks mistakenly do.
i can tell when a child is trying to manipulate me or a situation USUALLY. and I know when to redirect. its not as simple as outbursts or tantrums, its more like splitting (in the context of children of divorced parents) turning two or more staff members against eachother to get what the child wants or lots of lying. it's common with the kids i work with.
#im a sped paraeducator but mostly work with kids who have trauma histories and bad home lives#its easy to tell when a kid is thinking this shit out and carefully picking words to make things easier for them#its something we gotta recognize as a trauma response

What role do Para educators play in special education classes?
Para educators, also known as paraprofessionals or instructional assistants, are individuals who work in educational settings to provide support to teachers and students. Their roles can vary widely depending on the needs of the students and the specific requirements of the educational institution. Para educators assist and support teachers in various capacities. Their responsibilities may…

FERPA protects children's information from being shared and includes their disciplinary records.
"Access to that data used to be restricted to the administrator, guidance counselor, teacher, or other school official who needed it to serve the educational needs of the child."(https://connectsafely.org/eduprivacy/)
the linked site is a pretty extensive FAQ surrounding FERPA, which if you dont know, is the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act. It protects students and their families from being directly discussed with persons outside of the (background-checked) school staff and administrative personnel
so, to clarify, do you really think it should be okay in all circumstances to share private emails sent by parents to teachers in public forums? While giving specific examples of a child's misbehavior in class?
literally any of those kids go home and say "mommy, Mr. James got punched in the face by (student's name)" and that tweet is obviously about (student's name)
"Auntie, (student's name) gets a banana every morning" "Da, (student's name) got Mr. James fired" "Honey, did you hear Mr. James got his glasses broken? I bet it was (student's name)"
i feel like people forget that their frame of reference is not universal and people, like, have really large social circles sometimes and sometimes they even talk to their kids about their day and sometimes they even listen and remember details. no shame no shade L-rd knows my brain don't work but c'mon
#there i googled it for you <3#taking bets: will this user continue to argue with someone who actually goes to their paraeducator's union's meetings#or will they finally Realize?#if you're really a betting person you could bet on kaleigh apologizing for their poor behavior#but the odds are pretty low!#maybe i should send kaleigh's mom an email about their behavior (thinking emoji)

The U.S. Department of Labor (DOL) is currently funding a teacher recruitment program to provide “diversity, equity, inclusion, and access” training to prospective K-12 educators throughout the United States. As President Donald Trump’s administration seeks to eliminate DEI programs in the government, it is important for Trump to be made aware of existing racist progressive programs that his administration can hopefully defund.
The Educator Registered Apprentice (ERA) Intermediary program claims that it “paves the way for state and local education agencies, offering guidance and support in building solid apprenticeship programs. As an evidenced-based workforce development strategy, Registered Apprenticeship (RA) programs positively impact worker effectiveness, preparedness, and retention through paid on-the-job learning. As states and districts work to improve the educator workforce pipeline, RA programs are being developed across the country for K-12 Teachers, Paraeducators/Teacher Assistants, and Principals.”
