Took me about 3 hours all in all (0.5 for figuring out what character to draw this week and gathering references, 0.5 for figuring out and sketching the pose, 1 for trying to draw her in that pose followed by finally giving up and erasing everything because it just wasn't happening, 1 for starting from scratch and settling for another portrait type of drawing)

Paripi Koumei: il palco è un campo di battaglia che va conquistato nel nuovo trailer dell’anime

La nuova serie animata dello studio P.A. WORKS debutterà in Giappone il 5 aprile.

Pubblicato un nuovo trailer di “Paripi Koumei” (Ya Boy Kongming!), la serie animata tratta dall’omonimo manga, scritto da Yuto Yotsuba ed illustrato da Ryo Ogawa, che andrà in onda sulle tv giapponesi a partire dal 5 aprile.

La commedia a base di musica e spettacolo, targata P.A. WORKS (Appare-Ranman!, The Aquatope on White Sand), avrà come sigla di testa il brano “Chikichiki Banban”, anticipato nel video. Il pezzo è cantato dalle QUEENDOM, un nuovo gruppo formato in via speciale da Hibiki e Moka dei lol, Akina e Taki delle FAKY e Maria Kaneya dei GENIC.

La regia della serie è affidata ad Osamu Honma (direttore d’episodio in The Aquatope on White Sand, Iroduku: Il Mondo a Colori), mentre della sceneggiatura si occupa Yoko Yonaiyama (Uma Musume: Pretty Derby).

Il character design è ad opera di Kanami Sekiguchi (Hanasaku Iroha, Shirobako) e le musiche sono composte da Genki Hikota (sigla di coda di Lapis Re:LiGHTs e di Yuri!!! on Ice).

Generale dei Tre Regni ed esperto stratega, Kongming ha lottato tutta la vita, affrontando innumerevoli battaglie. Così, il suo unico desiderio sul letto di morte era quello di rinascere in un mondo pacifico… ed è stato mandato direttamente nella Tokyo dei giorni nostri!

Finding inspiration in Paripi Komei was a pleasant experience this season. As a content creator, it motivated with it's message of being yourself as an artist. To not sell out and conform to the corporate world's way of doing things. With Azalea, she is made an example of this as she gets reduced into hollowly doing what sells rather than what brings her passion.

This series spent more time developing Eiko's singing, rather then her character. Still, for me, it's what Eiko stands for that is more important. An amateur singer starting from the bottom, struggling with a dream and against outstanding odds. How could I not relate to Eiko? How could not I not see a part of myself in her struggle? As a result, I felt a great connection to her. You could say that Kongming helped her reach greater hights. Regardless, Kongming's stratagems cannot work on their own without Eiko's magnificent singing talent, and passion.

Her hardships hit me emotionally because I have struggled so much doing what I want to follow as a career. Something interesting about Komei is that he is actually willing to kill people for Eiko, though it's subtly shown in the series. I would have liked to see more hardships, because a character being too smart or overpowered lacks the entertainment and balance of high stakes. Regardless, Komei feels too likeable as a supportive, intelligent, and humble character. An old Chinese tactician getting sent to modern day Japan's underground club scene to help an amateur singer rise in her career with his stratagems feels like it makes no sense. Despite that, this series makes sense of it once you watch it.

Azalea represents the death of the artist. She recognizes that she is not happy being successful in her band because they can't do what they want to do. They have to follow a formula and corporate process that leaves her feeling as she has lost herself to this. She has to do it because they need the money to be successful. Much like so many of us, we do whatever it is we have to, even if it isn't something good, because we want to survive. It's a type of selling out that too many give themselves up for. If someone wants to really live and to live for the people, they have to sacrifice, take risks, and dare to be themselves, something too many are scared to do.

When you try to act sane in an insane society, that society will look upon you as if you are insane. Don't compromise because not everyone can understand. Keep pushing and be inventive.

To me, Azalea is what I don't want to become. I don't want to destroy my own ideas and creativity to become successful. I see this reflected on those that do what I do. Even people that I respected stooped down to pandering and catering to their audiences. I am fine where I am. I appreciate the little audience I have, because even if I sold out and made several thousand more subscribers, the audience I have now is what matters more to me. I've gotten to know many of them, some have in a sense, adopted me and taken me in.

Being told to give up, that's it's impossible, that I'll never reach it, to just find another full time job, is common for me to hear. These individuals haven't realized that it isn't just about the money.

Watching an anime, learning about it's story, lessons, and characters, rewatching and realizing what I missed, to listening to the wonderful soundtracks. Putting these videos together and trying to express how I see the series in my head, is fun to do.

Getting feedback that some can appreciate what I have to say, and seeing those that follow me watch my favorites, and then seeing them becoming their own favorites.. to me that is motivation. existing like this, makes up for the bad times, and makes it worth living.

Now, I have to criticize. Nothing is perfect; and neither are your favorites. To take such an interesting premise, and then almost nearly abandon it to focus on Kabe's arc, that wasn't so interesting and dragged this series down. Kabe could not make up with his own content what Komei and Eiko's dynamic and struggle was bringing to the table. It hurts him more that his rap didn't feel very appealing to me, and that the production of the series dipped during these weaker episodes in the middle of the series. Eiko's friendship arc also suffered from lower production values. The amount of slide shows, and important moments getting skipped were overt and disappointing to see. It wouldn't be until the last 2 episodes that the series returns to the greatness of it's first 3 episodes.

Despite it's problems as a series, Paripi Komei greatly encouraged me to keep following my dreams, and to never stoop so low as to be fake to try to make it.
