Illithid's Skin Care

So, I was thinking...

🦑 Typically, skin of a healthy mind flayer is always covered in a thin coat of mucus, also known as illithid mucus, that is naturally secreted by glands in the illithid's skin. It gives off a faint odor (like onion, garlic or vanilla).

🦑 Mind flayers absolutely hate dry environments and hate having dry skin.

Like, seriously - in Icewind Dale 2, in the Underdark location, you can even meet an illithid chilling near a steam pool (which is probably some kind of a local illithid spa or something). He is rather unwilling to move elsewhere, saying:

I enjoy my proximity to the steam pool. It makes my skin feel well ✨ (...) caves contain many webs and are dry. I do not like them.

🦑 Knowing this - if you are thinking about evolving into partial-illithid or full illithid, remember that at some point, you will probably need to change your typical skin care routine and moisturize a lot along the way.

🦑 And if you are thinking about befriending or romancing Emperor, find him a nice underground steam pool, or suggest a relaxing steam bath - he will probably love it!

Compromise

Hi y'all, I wanted to share a painting I've been working on for months. Posting it now because I told myself I can't fuss with it anymore in the new year lol.

I started this after my first playthrough where I romanced Shadowheart, and we took the astral touched tadpoles together. I was struck by the contrast between her new, white, Selunite hair, and the dark veins, eyes, and new powers of the tadpole.

To me, her becoming half illithid showed how desperate she was to survive, to continue her journey as a chosen of Selune and find out what that meant to her. She had just been given a glimpse of something so bright, and now she has to succumb to darkness in order to preserve that light within herself.

I LOVE Shadowheart. I think her story is extremely well done and compelling. I hope I captured some of my feelings about it in this piece ✨️💜

yes i do think partial ceremorphosis is irreversible yes i think the netherbrain dies and everyone else goes back to normal and gets to move on while roz has to carry the burden of what happened to them as a physical hunger for the rest of their days

Zephrissk, my second oldest OC next to Thez'Taress finally gets a fullbody sketch so she can at least show up on my size chart.

The two of them were born into the same ceremorphosis group and went through their adolescent training together for their first 15 years before splitting off into their respective creed apprenticeships, Taress going to the Venerator Creed and Zephrissk to the Abysmal Creed. While Taress learned to heal damage, Zephrissk learned to inflict it.

Zephrissk suffers from severe physical partialism due to how unstable dragonborn are as hosts, had she not been born a Major Caste Illithid she would have been culled at birth.

Her skin is the same moist rubbery feeling as the rest of her kin, and the ridges that appear on her joints are soft and squishy. Her tail is extremely flexible and allows her to balance on her digitigrade feet that have a large dew claw on each side that can rotate 180 degrees to allow easy perching in unusual places. These dew claws along with psionics allow her to travel along cave ceilings and ambush unsuspecting prey from above.

Zephrissk is obsessed with symmetry and has replicated each scar on her body perfectly to the other side herself, sometimes even in front of the one who has inflicted the original upon her.

Coincidentally, she works under her progenitor, Creed Master Diadem, though neither of them know she's his spawn. They both have a mutual love for gore and bloodshed, and she feels very at home as an Abysmal tormentor.

He's an Astromancer for our new DnD campaign, some random info under the cut

Disguises as a high elf via a handy magical illusion thanks to an enchanted ring and necklace, and goes by the name Rovan when as such

Also goes by "he" while in disguise, but normally uses they/it as well, doesn't really care which are used

Astromancer, so... space magic. Ended up being a spellblade with teleportation powers and also... Fire. So much starfire.

The glowing patterns on his body shift and change by will or as a reaction to various things, much like those of "our" cephalopods; they're bioluminescent and are way more noticeable in the dark, though the intensity and hue can change

Glasses also act as sunglasses when out and about during the day, as its eyes are sensitive to sunlight, and it generally keeps its body mostly covered as well

Would probably be called a nerd

Is trying to help investigate a series of murders in a town along with the rest of the group, since they were asked for help by the locals

Locals who heard rumors that the group helped uncover a cult a few years ago, which was literally accidental on their part, they were all in the wrong place, wrong time, don't really know each other and went their separate ways afterwards, no one actually is good at solving crimes

No one in the group knows that the elf is not, in fact, an elf

The Inks are finally done! Still have to get used to the new scanner and manage the levels and contrasts, but I tested it today! I cannot wait to paint this piece. 'a quick one' I said. In my sketchbook. Except, it is never a quick one when I am in love, and am I in Love TTnTT

The Emperor, Shield and Protector, and my first and canon Tav, Daff. A Gith Wizard who always has had a strange fascination for Illithids, and used to wonder whether or not they'd be so dangerous, or plain evil, if they were not enslaved to an Elder Brain themselves.

And they got a beginning of an answer here. The Emperor is more 'human' than many they've come across during their life. A mirror, and a completely different person, to recognise oneself and learn from - an individual to feel safe around, and to care for.

Some time, just as they're quietly in the Plane, resting after that fateful night, Daff just watches the Emperor and whispers to it "zhak vo'n'fynh duj" - the Illithid does not know how to answer, so it only asks the Gith to sleep, for they have work to do.

i really hated the partial-illithid veins at first, but they are really growing on me in a roleplay way. my companions all have to make a hard choice to give up power to be a good person and my tav will need to do that too, but he's given into that temptation for now.
