I think this is a 'Lesser Stag Beetle' found in our garden by granddaughter Amelia, she and Poppy staying with us for a few days. This Beetle was full grown and probably over an inch (30mm) long, it is predominantly found in the south of England and parts of Southern Wales. This is one of the few things we dislike about The Canary Islands, we apparently have them in parts of the UK, but never seen one at home, mainly on larger cities . Found this cockroach dead in the bathroom. Not nice creatures to live around, it's body was fully 1.5 inches long (38mm) and the antenna even longer. It grows to around 15 to 20cm (6 to 8 inches) The genus is native to the eastern Mediterranean It is widely naturalized elsewhere, including Europe parts of USA (Pennsylvania, California and Texas)5 Cuba and Mexico The bulbs are poisonous; they contain oxalic acid The flower is used in the Haft-Seen table setting for the Persian New Year celebration.
