চার বন্ধু - পূরবী, বাদশা, দেবকান্তি, অনিকেত অতিলৌকিক, ভৌতিক ঘটনা বিষয়ক ইউটিউব চ্যানেল "রহস্য শিকারি" চালায়। সেই চ্যানেলের কন্টেন্ট এর জন্যই অনন্যর প্রস্তাবে তার সঙ্গে মধ্যপ্রদেশের পাতালকোটের উদ্দেশ্যে রওনা হয় পূরবীদের টীম। ওদের এই ট্রিপে বিনা নিমন্ত্রণে উড়ে এসে জুড়ে বসে সারিকা ও মৌলীনা। পরে এদের সঙ্গে যুক্ত হয় একে একে সাধন বৈরাগী, বাবুলাল, অনন্ত। পাতালকোটের কুখ্যাত রহস্যময় ভুতুড়ে বাড়িতে এরা কি কি ভয়াবহ অভিজ্ঞতার সম্মুখীন হয়? অনন্য ই বা কেন রহস্য শিকারি টিমকে পাতালকোট এর সন্ধান দেয়? সেই ভুতুড়ে বাড়ির রহস্যই বা কি? সেই রহস্য উদঘাটন করে কি এরা সবাই প্রাণ নিয়ে ফিরতে পারবে? গল্প প্রধানত দুটি সময়কালে বিভক্ত। তন্ত্র - ইতিহাস - পুরাণ - রহস্য - ভুত ...!!! এতকিছুর অতি সাবলীল ভাবে মেলবন্ধন ঘটেছে "পাতালকোট" এ, তবু কোথাও গল্প ঘেঁটে যায়নি! ঐতিহাসিক বা পৌরাণিক বিবরণও কোথাও প্রয়োজনাতিরিক্ত বলে লাগেনি। কিছু জটিল দৃশ্যের বিবরণও লেখিকার কলমে অতি সহজ, সুন্দর ও সাবলীল ভাবে প্রকাশ পেয়েছে যে না পড়লে ভাবাই যায় না যে এরকমও হতে পারে! ভৌতিক, তান্ত্রিক, অলৌকিক - ব্যাপারগুলোও গল্পে থাকলেও গল্পটির যথেষ্ট নিজস্বতা আছে। এ গল্প মোটেও বাজার চলতি একঘেয়ে ভুতুড়ে গল্প নয়। ভূতের নাম গুলোর (যেমন বজ্রবেতাল) মতই ভূত ও ভূতের ক্ষমতা প্রদর্শনের মধ্যেও যথেষ্ট উনিকনেস রয়েছে। সাধন বৈরাগীর চরিত্র প্রথম দিকটায় অভিক সরকারের কৃষ্ণানন্দ আ��মবাগীশ চরিত্রটির কথা মনে করিয়ে দেয় কিন্তু গল্প এগোনোর সাথে সাথে দেখা যায় এই চরিত্রটি সেভাবে আত্মপ্রকাশ করার সুযোগ গল্পেরএই প্রথম ইনস্টলমেন্ট এ অন্ততঃ পায়নি! বাকি, চরিত্রদের মধ্যে .... পদ্মযামিনী ছাড়া আর কারো চরিত্র বর্ণনায় খুব একটা চেষ্টা করা হয়েছে বলে মনে হলো না! আর সেটার অভাবও সেরকম ভাবে মনে হয়নি। চরিত্রগঠনের চাইতে প্রকৃতি চিত্রণ ও আবহ তৈরিতে সম্ভবতঃ একটু বেশি জোর দেওয়া হয়েছে যার প্রভাবে সহজেই পাতালকোট এর জঙ্গল যেন জীবন্ত হয়ে ওঠে পাঠকের সম্মুখে! মোট কথা, একবার পড়তে শুরু করলে শেষ না করে উঠতে ইচ্ছে না করাটাই স্বাভাবিক! গল্পের মাঝে কয়েকটা ঝকঝকে স্কেচও বেশ নজর কাড়া! তবে গল্প এখানেই শেষ হয়নি। শেষে স্পষ্ট ভাবে জানানো আছে গল্পের শেষ পরিণতি জানতে এই সিরিজ এর আগামী বইটির অপেক্ষা করে থাকতে হবে! তবে কি পাতালকোট ডুওলজি নাকি ট্রিলজি? যদি গল্পের পরবর্তী অংশ জানার জন্য অধীর আগ্রহে অপেক্ষা করতে কোনো অসুবিধে না থাকে তবে নিঃসন্দেহে পড়ে নেওয়া যায় "পাতালকোট"!
