I Wanna Take a Class

So I've wanted to do some sort of accounting shit forever and...I finally am well enough that it wouldn't be hell to get through. I want to start out with something small that I already have experience in - tax filing! The course I've found goes through both individual and small business taxes, and includes physical textbooks in the tuition.

Ideally I'd like to volunteer my time to help others. I don't want to run a tax business or anything. Basically....I love filling out forms and looking at numbers, I love helping people, and I hate the USA system of scaring the public into paying big companies to file info that the gov't already has. Plus it would be relevant to my own existing small business as a bonus!

With all the stray cats we've helped survive the winter (if you're in MN and want a cat...), I'm pretty broke. So please take a look at some of my artwork that I have for sale! I also do custom work with no minimum quantity requirement, and I'm really flexible on pricing. I'll do trades, too, which wouldn't fulfill my tuition cost raising, but just in general it's a thing I accept.

In addition for anyone trying to offer advice: -No, I can't get a loan. My bank knows I don't have much income right now so they won't give me a personal one. And it's not a college degree-related loan so they won't give me an education loan either. -My credit card isn't maxxed but I only have about a third of what I need for the course. -The course is less than $1k in case anyone wants to know. -Yes, I did look up reviews and how local colleges feel about the course in case I want to get a degree some day. That is why I chose the one that I have.

atira is the title of the earth goddess. she was the wife of tirawa, the creator god. her earthly manifestation is corn, which symbolizes the life that mother earth gives. the goddess was revered in a ceremony called hako. the ceremony used an ear of corn painted blue to represent the sky and white feathers attached to represent a cloud as a symbol of atira.

The Boy Who Saw A-ti'us

The Boy Who Saw A-ti'us is a legend of the Pawnee nation about a young man who is granted a vision of the Creator Ti-ra'wa A-ti'us (also known simply as Ti-ra'wa or as A-ti'us) and, through his faith, is able to see what others cannot and so saves his people from starvation.

The story works with the theme, common not only to Pawnee legends but those of many Native peoples of North America, of the poor young man who is rewarded by the Creator for his kindness and generosity toward others. Although boasting of one's accomplishments was not only accepted but also expected, from young men, humility was highly valued, and many tales from various nations warn against the dangers of thinking too highly of oneself. In this same way, stories from all Native nations – including those of the Plains Indians, encourage the values of modesty, kindness, generosity, and gratitude.

This story is an example of the latter, in which a poor orphan boy is taken in by a widow and returns her kindness by caring for her and her two children as if he were a member of the family. This is in keeping with Pawnee values and behavior, but it is noted in the text that the boy always brings any food he finds to the woman – not saving any out for himself – to be divided among the four of them. His selflessness is then rewarded by Ti-ra'wa A-ti'us with the vision that will change the boy's life and restore his people.

The story not only serves to encourage cultural values and faith in an audience but also as an origin tale in that it explains how and why the position of chief in Pawnee leadership, once held by women – since the first created human was understood as female – passed to men. Mainly, however, the focus of the tale is fixed on the importance of individual integrity and faith in the knowledge that, no matter how bleak a situation, the Creator is always present and prepared to offer help.

Ti-ra'wa A-ti'us

Ti-ra'wa A-ti'us ("Our Father Above") is the Creator God of the Pawnee who gave them life and the gifts essential for their survival including agriculture, the concept of clothing and ornamentation, fire, hunting skills and the animals to hunt, the power of speech and imagination, and the proper observance of sacred ritual and sacrifice. His wife is Atira ("Mother Corn"), an earth goddess (associated with Mother Earth), and all the other gods are observable as stars in the night sky, but behind all – and invisible – is Ti-ra'wa A-ti'us.

Ti-ra'wa created the expanse in the sky now known as the Milky Way but known to the Pawnee, and others, as the Path or the Path of Departing Spirits, which led one's soul home after death. Once arrived in the afterlife, the soul would live fully in the presence of the Creator, but he still remained invisible. The vision given in The Boy Who Saw A-ti'us would have therefore been exceptional to the original audience in that the god's presence could certainly be felt at any time, but he could never be actually seen, just like the wind.

I slept until after 2pm today. I was up until like 3am, but still, I slept for a really long time. I just hate getting out of bed and starting the day, and I don’t have work today, so there was nothing really forcing me to get up. I did go ahead and wash all of my dishes now that I’m up, though. And my apartment is looking pretty tidy, which is always good for my mental health. I even made my bed today.

Tomorrow is the Apple event. I don’t really care about most of the stuff they will probably talk about. What I do care about is a new Apple Watch SE. Specifically an SE, because I don’t see myself spending $400 for an Apple Watch. But mine (a series 3) is really not doing well these days, and I would really like an upgrade for it without breaking the bank.

Probably gonna do some more cleaning around my apartment today while Parks and Rec or something plays for background noise. Sometimes I end up listening to the DVD commentary because it’s the default audio track on some episodes and I’m too lazy to change it. Which is honestly fine, because I’ve already seen every episode of Parks and Rec, so why not add in some fresh content lol.

I might try to do laundry tonight but I feel like since it’s a Sunday I might not bother. I have a feeling a lot of other people in my building could be doing laundry and I don’t feel like running into anyone else or going down with my clothes and not having a machine available or anything else. I’ll probably just be lazy for the rest of the day. I have pretty much everything I need for the day (chocolate milk, poptarts, eggos). So I’m gonna try to just enjoy my day off before I go back to work tomorrow. Oh, and of course, watch the Big Brother episode tonight.

Also, I got a new Pop figure. I got April as a Pawnee Goddess to go with my Ann Perkins, who is also dressed as a Pawnee Goddess. I was not super thrilled about them being dressed up the same to be honest, but it’s whatever. I also bought Spongebob as a Caveman the other day.

Had a huge Leslie Knope + Ann Perkins moment when I announced to my best friend that my crush was single by sending her a "breaking news" graphic and then I put a headline saying "he's single!: Local incredibly tall sweet boi is on the market!" in front of a picture of him that I found by stalking Instagram for hours bc the man doesn't even have social media but I found him anyways

Man my best friend and I really are Leslie and Ann I'm clingy and in awe of her and she has so many relationship problems that I listen to and then vow to exact revenge on men for her. And we met at a church meeting which is close enough to being a public forum.

Heyyyy so my cats need to get bloodwork done this week for their stupid mystery illnesses. Trying to not worry too much, but I am worried about the cost. Sales have been really bad for the past, well, three years. And I've been really bad about releasing new stuff, so I get it.

I've marked a ton of stuff down on my shop thru the end of June. Some things I even permanently marked down!

I do have some new collabs coming up later this Summer, and I am always open for custom orders! I have no minimum quantity, even for wholesale. The only exception is baseball caps. I do have MOQs for wholesale pricing, but they're very low. I also bear no hard feelings if you change your mind about an order, and I'm always ALWAYS open to chat about ideas. I love talking about my work and hearing other people talk about theirs!

Two things! 

1. Least importantly, I dyed my hair pink the other day lol 2. Most importantly, Lauren and I got a train to London and Mai got a plane and we met in person! We got to spend 3 days exploring London and sitting on benches Amy Poehler has sat on. AND we went and saw Hamilton on the West End. We’re truly living our best lives. 

Lauren, Mai and I all met in 2015 on this dumb blue site, have been in a group chat ever since, have had many a rabbit session, and now we’ve finally all met. And seen Hamilton with our own two eyes? Feeling happy + blessed 💖

As my last piece for #internationalwomensday, I knew I HAD to pay tribute to the woman who has gotten me through the last couple years. She has helped me truly become the woman I am today and she will always be very special to me. That woman is a Leslie Knope. I’ve watched Parks & Rec multiple times and each time Leslie inspires me more and more. She’s confident, funny, driven, intelligent, fearless, kind, outspoken, unapologetically herself, and a true warrior for women’s rights. She is a goddess and she taught me that the rest of us are goddesses, too! 💛
