Error G502 - rant ENG
*a history from before the pandemic, when the equipment in stores could be inspected before purchase The most hated mouse that everyone is copying now (hopefully only with shape and not quality). As a reasonable consumer (such a nice oxymoron) at some point in my life I wanted to replace a mouse that went beyond its click limits for a new one. For this purpose, I went to one of the large electronics stores, so that I could see and "test" the equipment with my own paws and eyes before buying it. I looked through a lot of PC rodents from all kinds of companies. Corsair, A4tech, Razer ... and of course Logitech, with the good old reliable brand PR in my country. And that despite quite small paws, I like relatively large and heavy mouses (contrary to the current fashion), Logitech G502 caught my attention. At first glance, the design is aggressive, but without exaggeration, bearable, the buttons are supposed to be good (how could such a reputable brand not have good buttons ??), and the additional ones, maybe outnumbered by my old clicky fellow with 18 programmable ones, but I’ve never used all of them at once, so I came to the conclusion that it's better to opt for a certain minimalism. A short test in a completely unrealistic position on the shelf, a glance at the specification, a slight admiration for the weights under the magnetic flap and thumb rest, a little price research and the decision has been made. Bought. There is a slight grain of salt at home. Illuminated logo, kind of nice, but it hits the eyes mercilessly like a miniature headlight with rabies. Well, I installed the drivers, and in the controller ... there is no possibility to adjust the constant backlight, only on breathing mode this option is available ... meh. I managed to get around this problem with a certain glitch in the program, so with a shrug after a small murder, I went to the DPI settings, which went rather smoothly. However, a certain hope that in the future the company will decide to improve the driver remained in my head, and probably only there, because after a year and a half of using the mouse, neither the error allowing the non-breathing breathing mode, nor the lack of the option to adjust the constant backlight have not been corrected. The longer the mouse was used, the worse it looked in my eyes. The cable turned out to be even stiffer than on the exhibition specimen and extremely susceptible to the slightest abrasions. Scroll was just fine (even remarkably good for quickly viewing documents in "speed" mode), until it decided to spontaneously start to corrode (although the mouse was not flooded with anything, and as far as I remember, I did not live in a swamp nor in a terrarium for tropical reptiles). Regardless of the grip, the extra buttons turned out to be problematic, or I was notoriously stabbed with the DPI button, or I accidentally pressed one of those sticking out right next to the left mouse button. Well, these at least worked properly, which cannot be said about the side thumb rest, which turned out to be a completely unsuccessful design with extremely capricious springs. The side buttons loved to get stuck in the middle of the game or even when browsing the Internet when used only as "back and forward", but this defect was not possible to complain about, because under the influence of shocks during transport they liked to position themselves in the right position and again work for a while. The icing on the cake was the gum on the side, which started to crumble after a year, and the mouse itself often had problems with remembering the profile (whether with a driver glitch in use or without), so disconnecting it and connecting it to another computer resulted in a factory reset or random DPI values. While I am inclined to blame the issues related to memory on a not very successful piece, the side buttons, the angular DPI button, the braid extremely weak for a mouse in this price segment and the driver calling for vengeance to heaven are simply a poor project, poor performance and then ignoring the problem. Did I mention that this is the only mouse I got problems with my wrist and thumb tendon? Again, it may be a matter of what many will call "bad fit" for PC mice, but I think it is worth mentioning if someone decides to use something with similar dimensions for a longer time. In conclusion, while I do not want to comment on other Logitech’s products "for players", the G502, with relatively good ratings in most online stores, turned out to be a complete flop in my eyes.
