Distinguishing developmental leadership and supportive leadership. Journal of Occupational & Organizational Psychology, 79 (1), 37-61. Retrieved from http://web.ebscohost.com/ehost/pdfviewer/pdfviewer?sid=528d12bf-   Introduction       Situational leadership is effective leadership that depends on the task at hand, skills of a specific group of people, and the motivation given to the workers. It is a leadership that is implemented or carried out by both the leader and his or her followers as partners and not just workers. In addition, this type of leadership is about increasing the frequency and the quality of communication within an organization. The information communicated between a manager and his or her workers should be useful and contain directions that give subordinates a better idea on how to do the job. According to Hogg, Van, and Rast (2012), there are many situations where leadership is required for influencing a collaborative effort of different formal groups in an organization. The idea of effective leadership is to focus on people more of the time and ultimately have useful conversations with people about their performance, to be focused on individuals and their motives, desires, and intentions. In addition, what an individual needs to perform a job done and how the leaders serve their subordinates to perform their job is the ultimate aspect of servant leadership. Situational Leadership Situational leadership is a model for developing the people you are working with; it is simple – well-developed people are more effective and can pursue what is more important. Paul Hersey put this leadership style into practice in partnership with Kenneth Blanchard. Butler and Reese (1991) wrote that the model of situational leadership has been able to present a variety of solutions to effectively handle contingencies involved in leadership. When situational leadership is implemented in an organization, managers will be able to learn the various strengths and weaknesses of each specific leadership style and eventually be able to apply it during specific situation at the workplace. In addition, this form of leadership enables people to lead at the highest possible level. Managers in the organization who have knowledge of situational leadership are able to recognize the correct style to use at a specific time and eventually they will achieve desired business results. Situational leadership takes information and puts it into practical learning, making companies more valuable as regards personnel. Due to situational leadership, various basic things done at the work place begin to be done better, enhancing the work experience. There are four leadership styles and four development levels involved in situational leadership, and it is important to apply the appropriate leadership styles depending on the goal at hand. The complexity with situational leadership is that a manager cannot treat everybody in the same manner, since he or she is interested in finding out what the needs and desires of employees are before offering the solutions. For instance, the manager can use directing style of leadership when dealing with workers who are apathetic to the various tasks they are given to perform. Participation, on the other hand, will be useful when the workers are skilful but do not fully understand the instructions on how to perform a task. On the other hand, managers can use delegation style with workers that are able to complete tasks willingly. Situational leadership makes develops managers Read the full article

¶ … Intervention Nursing Research Using the COPE Intervention for Family Caregivers to Improve Symptoms of Hospice Homecare Patients: A Clinical Trial This study was designed to test an intervention for hospice caregivers in order to help them better manage symptoms experienced by patients with cancer. The authors maintain that research indicates caregivers are unable to accurately assess and report the intensity of symptoms and overall quality of life (QOL) of patients with cancer and patients in hospice care. Three symptoms, pain, dyspnea, and constipation, are commonly are seen in patients with advanced cancer. However, the author's site research that asserts that these symptoms are assessed inadequately and managed poorly in many patients. Pain and dyspnea have been found to create symptom distress, significantly affecting patient QOL. The authors claim that caregivers must develop the skills needed to function effectively as part of the healthcare team. Building the knowledge base and teaching an orderly problem-solving approach to care should improve symptoms for patients and result in increased QOL. The purpose of this study was to evaluate the effect of a problem-solving intervention provided to caregivers of hospice homecare patients with cancer. To this end this study was designed as a three group comparative study. Patients with cancer and their caregivers were divided into three groups: a control group, a group receiving standard care plus friendly visits, and a group receiving standard care plus the COPE (creativity, optimism, planning, and expert information) intervention. The care givers in this last group received experimental training over a nine day period in COPE intervention to assist with symptom management. This was a longitudinal study with data being collected over a thirty day period using a mix-methods approach. Interviews were conducted to ascertain base levels of pain, dypsnea and constipation. This data was given numerical values and then used to determine the significance of the COPE intervention provided as compared to the control group and the group that received standard care plus friendly visits. It is significant to note that the authors have developed a manual outlining COPE Intervention and conceivably stand to profit from the sale of this publication. Unfortunately, this taints the findings as it is apparent that the authors have a vested interest in the study's outcome. The authors state that, "Although not effective in improving all outcomes, the intervention was effective in decreasing overall symptom distress in the study's patients." Another significant point of interest is that the authors paid the nurses and home health aides from the hospice to work as research assistants (RA's) during the duration of the study. Furthermore, the authors reveal that the protocol as funded did not involve auditing the behaviors of caregivers to determine whether their symptom management changed and whether any changes that were made were appropriate and effective. This gives cause for concern about the efficacy of the data collected and the conclusions reached. Additionally, this conflict of interest created by putting the nurses and home health aides on the payroll may have conceivably affected the care given the patients in order to validate the study. Week 2 - Required post 1
The two words I decided to search were “Japan + culture.” This is what I found:

Sanpuru are precise models of food used a marketing tool found commonly in the display windows of Japanese restaurants. It’s visual appeal evokes hunger within potential customers. The accuracy of these displays built trust between customer and restaurant, ensuring quality and honest service.

I’ve left annotations on the main article, ““Fake Food: Authentic Japanese Product”—on the Rise of Visuality in Middlebrow Japanese Culinary Culture.” However, looking through all three, I have learned that like Thai food culture (as we discussed in class), Japanese food culture has also adapted in accordance to Western preferences. Japanese people thought of the West as “modern” and strived to operate as such. Fake food was one of the strategies used to introduce and incorporate foreign foods into their own culture. Its strategy is also scientifically proven to invoke feelings of hunger.

MA Blog - Week 6 - “Two Minds as One”
Hello again. It’s Kayla and this week's Article of the Week is called “Two Souls, Two Thoughts,” Two Self-Schemas: Double Consciousness Can Have Positive Academic Consequences for African Americans.” The theoretical framework centers around the psychological experience of African Americans called the “double consciousness.” The double consciousness serves as a reflection of the two mindsets for many African Americans: Mainstream American practices (Independent) and African American practices (Interdependent). Black American culture has often focused more on community and collective experiences. However, the distribution and injustices that drive the double consciousness is also responsible for the racial or ethnic stereotypes that hinder the Interdependent consciousness (Brannon, Markus, et al., 2015). It can change the way African Americans see their place in their own community. So, Tiffany N. Brannon, Hazel Rose Markus, and Valerie Jones Taylor conducted a study to see whether the double consciousness can be realized if a US educational setting makes it safe for African American students to engage with both of their independent and interdependent consciousness. They initially took 40 African American students and let them determine if a Black centered ceremony is important to them. Here, they did find a correlation, and furthered the study by introducing other factors such as multicultural environments.
This article taps into one of the aspects of Afrosurrealism. The concept of the double consciousness often serves as one of the main factors to Afrosurrealism. Half of what makes the art genre surreal is that interdependent consciousness, metaphors that mostly Black Americans can understand. It will also contribute to the creative process within my narrative video. Reading about what separates the Black experience will make it easier to conduct said experience in a symbolic and whimsical way. So, the practice will be just as important as the study.
For this week, I did quite a bit. I had a meeting with another potential committee member. I am expecting to hear back from him on Tuesday. I have also started writing down some story beats and ideas. By the beginning of next week, I plan on creating a poster for dancers and actors, and making an interesting form for students from Boyer College of Music and Dance.

Many of the people around me were infatuated with art itself. It has influenced us as a society. It gave us great ideas and new philosophies that we carry throughout centuries. This was the birthplace of the Renaissance. You see it changes people through their morals. You can also see how it has a big influence. Even the churches do it to try to have a bigger audience. But this wasn't the first renaissance (rebirth). There has been an Egyptian Renaissance. The Renaissance was part of an identifiable artistic movement as patrons staked a claim to the glory of an Egyptian heritage. If art itself could have an impact not only in Italy and Egypt, but it could even happen where you are.

The intent in the paper is to review factors that contribute to the overrepresentation of African American in the prison system and incarceration system. The paper provides evidence that could support my paper and give more effective points towards my audience. Which will also give a clearer point towards the readers. The paper helps me provide good analysis towards this subject and furthermore provides statistics. This helps me find good evidence that backup my point

The Tuskegee Study of 1932 will be the focus of this discussion. This experiment can be ified as a public health research venture because the purpose of the experiment was to collect data concerning the public health issue of syphilis and other common maladies (Hagen, 2005). The original venture was intended to be six to twelve months in length and transformed into a venture designed to mimic a similar Norwegian study on syphilitic white males that had been untreated for long periods of time prior to the study and through no fault of the researchers (Hagen, 2005; Walker, 2009). However, through the course of this forty year study, no new drugs were tested nor was the efficacy of any existing treatments analyzed, although the effects of the disease was studied on a pool of 600 African-American men of which 399 had syphilis and 201 did not (Walker, 2009; Hagen, 2005). Since the nature of the illness can become fatal and be transmitted to a fetus in the womb, I think this experiment should have followed the most stringent protocols of public ethical conduct for conducting human subject research. Through the course of this experiment, the participants were deliberately misinformed and, when effective treatment for syphilis became available, they were deliberately denied treatment, causing a mistrust of the public health system that effects the physician’s ability to successfully offer healthcare to African-American’s today (Hagen, 2005). While a study such of this generates an enormous amount of informative data about the actual effects of the disease on the human body, the trust needed to effectively treat future patients is lost and, decades after the study, this trust still remains elusive for many African-American’s. Blog Post 3.5 (Self Bibliography)
1. Attentional control deficits in trait anxiety: Why you see them and why you don’t. Biological Psychology. (2013). https://www-sciencedirect-com.proxy.seattleu.edu/science/article/pii/S0301051112000695
I chose to put this link first because I feel like anxiety rest with me the most. I'm always worried about upcoming things or what could happen in the future. I've never been legit tested for anxiety, which I should probably do, but I know I have it. Also I learned more about myself because anxiety can get worse or better depending on life events, so I know to pay more close attention in my life.
2. “I Use Weed for My ADHD”: A Qualitative Analysis of Online Forum Discussions on Cannabis Use and ADHD. (2016). https://go-gale-com.proxy.seattleu.edu/ps/i.do?p=AONE&u=seat38459&id=GALE%7CA453533563&v=2.1&it=r
I'm an active weed smoker, but I use it because I use it for my ADHD. I've never been tested for ADHD because my parents never thought I had it so they never tested me. But deep down I personally feel like I do. The difference between when I smoke vs when I don't, I can tell the difference in my mood/vibe. When I smoke I'm more calm, relax and more focused. Whereas when I don't smoke I feel anxious, worried and sad all the time. Personally I think weed helps me more than it hurts me.
3. Unexceptional exceptionalism: the origins of American football in a transnational context. (2013). https://www.proquest.com/docview/1365015043?accountid=28598&parentSessionId=yCD2WvdCPBZWopUiBldfRGMtsKz3MVwWIFG9TL31J0A%3D&pq-origsite=primo
Early types of football played in Europe, especially England, can be seen as the ancestors of American football. Different variations of kicking a ball across a field or attempting to carry it to a goal we're featured in these games. I'm a big fan of football and I've been following it since I can remember. The most knowledge I possess is about football because it's a sport I also played growing up and in high school. It's been fun learning about the middle of the 19th century, American colleges started to play their own versions of football, which frequently had varied rules depending on the institution.
4. Can a Dog Really Be a Man’s Best Friend?: An Exchange between Humans. (2018). https://muse-jhu-edu.proxy.seattleu.edu/article/720205
It's been about a year now since I got a dog, and I can confidently say I love my dog. But to be honest I never understood dogs being mans best friend until I got a dog of my own. Overall, the qualities that make dogs "man's best friend" is loyalty, friendship, devotion, and the numerous ways they improve the lives of their owners. They offer their loved ones practical advantages that improve their quality of life in addition to emotional support and friendship. My dog has done tremendous things to help get me on the right path and back up on my feet.
5. Insomnia with objective short sleep duration is associated with longer duration of insomnia in the Freiburg Insomnia Cohort compared to insomnia with normal sleep duration, but not with hypertension. (2017). https://go-gale-com.proxy.seattleu.edu/ps/i.do?p=AONE&u=seat38459&id=GALE%7CA499323001&v=2.1&it=r
I have sleep insomnia and it's one of the worst things possible because I'm constantly waking up and can't stay asleep for long. Many things like stress, worry, erratic sleep patterns, poor sleep hygiene, medical disorders, pharmaceutical side effects, or lifestyle choices like excessive caffeine or alcohol intake are all common causes of insomnia. I should probably get checked out for this too. Something weird about me and never getting checked up on.
6. Working at the Car Wash. (2007). https://web-s-ebscohost-com.proxy.seattleu.edu/ehost/pdfviewer/pdfviewer?vid=0&sid=224c93f7-7659-4d3d-803c-f0aa4542ce8d%40redis
Found an old newspaper article from that job that I work at. I've been working at Brown Bear car wash for about 2 years now, I started when I was a senior in high school. Brown Bear's been an amazing company to me. It's funny reading all the memberships and things they've added since 2007. Brown bear has come a long way because even when I first started there they started at $16 an hour for minimum wage. Now they start at $19 an hour which is just a $3 difference in like 2 years for the minimum wage. If you haven't been to a Brown Bear yet, I suggest you go.
7. Stan Lee Came Up with Spider-Man Because He Saw a Fly Land on a Wall and Decided There Needed to Be a Superhero that Could Stick to Walls. (2020). https://www.proquest.com/docview/2674422834?accountid=28598&parentSessionId=oaC%2BhfvhZc5EFK8jc7zUFoRouaPknXK0E%2FY7bZMwWH4%3D&pq-origsite=primo
If you know Bill than you know he's the biggest spider-man fan boy alive. I can remember spider-man from my earliest moments in my childhood and he's absolutely amazing, even until this day. But I found a peer-reviewed article about how Stan Lee came up with spider-man. It's funny how he came up with a whole character that turned into an icon by just seeing a fly crawl up a wall. It's also crazy how most people, including me, didn't know this until he passed away.
