Everyone has the freedom to believe in anything. It is also everyone's responsibility to question everything... It is worth questioning why politics and religion demand belief and obedience, and discourage personal investigation. It is every living being's natural birthright to know one's own inner truth... And while i have never claimed to be enlightened; i do know that from over 25 years of meditation practice and failure and experimentation and quiting and rediscovering to deeply dissapearing in it- the direct personal experience of truely abandoning all thought, all opinion, or at least striving deeply towards that goal of stillness and deep presence in the nowness... Happy Memorial Day Weekend. #MemorialDay Yet another year of escalating conflict in Syria and Afghanistan, and other places around the globe... In the face of this carnage we get international rhetorical rattling of the sabre, escalating violence here at home of all kinds, and increasing hate being spoken publicly feeding they cycle of rage and pro-war sentiment. Intentional Grace

Today as I began my day I made the decision to intentionally try to be gracious and gentle.  Now this doesn't mean that I'm normally obnoxious and rude, it just means that today I wanted to just observe my life more and watch how I related to others.  It may sound silly or simplistic, but making the decision to be more aware of how I related to others slowed me down a lot and in the slowing down process I found so much peace and joy.  I was able to get more accomplished and I felt better about the results of my activities.

Peace Is Still A Choice

In 2010 I wrote a daily blog about peace in which I made a conscious choice each day for peace.  Sometimes I made a small choice of my own, and sometimes I gave an intentional focus on something I saw someone else do that I found inspirational.  In the years since I stopped writing the blog I have noticed individual choices for peace have been gaining momentum.  From TED talks to the Tiny House Movement, more than ever, people all over the world are talking about and choosing to live their lives in ways that promote peace. 

Last fall I watched the movie, I AM, by Tom Shadyac. Actually, I watched it five different times.  I couldn't get enough of the ideas presented in the movie, mainly ideas about compassion and about what it takes to transform a situation that seems on the surface impossible to transform.  At the same time I also watched a TED talk about leadership by Derek Sivers.  This talk revolved around a lone guy dancing at a festival that grew to most of the people at the festival standing up and dancing with him.  There is a tipping point when people go from, "Hey that might work." to "This is the way it is going to be!"

Seeing that talk made me think about the tipping point of peace, I can feel it happening.  It may take many years still, but I can see it everywhere, it is happening, and I want to be one of those in the crowd that encourages that tipping point where peace is not only an option but the most reached for option.  I want to give my words of peace the opportunity to dance again, from my soul to yours, to the world.  So bring on 2014 and know that peace is still a choice.
