I never did like how a lot of people's gripes with Peacemaker existing are "Darkstalker doesn't deserve a second chance!! Darkstalker should've died!! He doesn't deserve to keep living!!" As if Peacemaker wasn't meant to be *Foeslayer's* second chance at raising a child

Take my word with a grain of salt because I haven't read Darkness of Dragons in years, but Darkstalker being turned into Peacemaker always came off as more a gift to Foeslayer. A huge part of her character was that she just wanted a good family. She didn't want a husband who was always fighting with her and their son, he didn't want a son who planned to genocide an entire tribe. Peacemaker is opportunity to raise a child in a healthy environment and watch him grow into a good dragon. Peacemaker is Foeslayer's second chance. Not Darkstalker's.

Also. Pretty sure Tui said that Darkstalker is like. Fully dead now. Not living through Peacemaker, he's just gone. Peacemaker may have been created from Darkstalker, but Peacemaker is his own dragon. So. There's that.

I don't understand how Tui looked at the concept of Peacemaker and thought it was even remotely close to a satisfying end to Darkstalker.

The part that annoys me the most is that there is NO build-up to this. No foreshadowing or anything. It came out of left field and was absolutely a cop-out because she had written herself into a corner. Who would've thunk that making a character with virtually no weaknesses would make it harder to kill off? It doesn't feel cathartic to have him turn into a dragonet. It feels cheap.

figuring out all of that peacemaker design song and dance. im really struggling with his color palette but trying to figure that out. I think im getting there? But not really. struggling like I said.

I actually don’t hate Peacemaker, or the ending to Darkness of Dragons. “Oh!! But it betrays the themes of Arc 2!!” I think it’s a thematic punishment- ironic even. Darkstalker spent his ENTIRE LIFE stripping people of their autonomy, or at least trying to (Arctic, Clearsight, Indigo, Fathom, Moon, Anemone, Fierceteeth…. Need I go on?). And- on top of that- he refused to go back, refused to do anything better. He stuck by his genocidal stance until the minute he “died.” And- really- what else were the Jade Winglet supposed to do? He was immortal, invulnerable, and could kill any one of them with a strong THOUGHT.

There’s also so much potential for Peacemaker. More NightWings are going to hatch with powers now, who’s to say one of more of them won’t find out he used to be Darkstalker from a little slip in one of the Jade Winglet’s thoughts? Moon is mentioned to constantly be looking to see if Peacemaker shows any traits of Darkstalker. Those dragonets have probably heard of Darkstalker from their parents, so what happens when they find out the little hybrid next door used to be a Genocidal monster? It opens the door for Peacemaker either to become another Darkstalker, scorned by his father tribe (again)- or for him to turn a whole new leaf and allow him to live his own life, kind of like a better-ending Hawthorn.

What I DON’T like is these seemingly fandom-wide decision that if Peacemaker takes a Darkstalker turn, it’s because there’s a piece of Darkstalker still in him. I’m fine with nightmares, similar to how Pyrite/Hailstorm dreamt of icy mountains. But “oh! Yeah there’s still some Darkstalker there!” Defeats the ending of Darkness of Dragons even worse than Darkstalker becoming Peacemaker in the first place. That (to me, personally) takes even more autonomy away from a character already deemed by the fandom to have been born of a lack of it. Plus, the idea of Darkstalker’s shadow looming over Phyrria feels much more real and would have a bigger impact on the story and themes than if Darkstalker just… came back.

Hopefully this doesn’t spark a war, but I hope it doesn’t. Guess a bonus confession would be that WoF is the best fandom I’ve EVER been in. ^^
