This is what AI thought Pooh would look like as a creepy doll. This is part of the Phobia series, Pediophobia referring to the fear of things human shaped aka The Uncanny Valley. Since that can be lots of things, I began with dolls.

I have never experienced true laughing crying until now.

I have an irrational fear of dolls, pediophobia. And there are two dolls at the top of my closet. Well, I left my bathroom, look at my bed, and see one of those dolls sitting at the pillow of my bed

I start freaking out, trying to figure out who did it, even calling two of my three brothers who recently went back to where they lived to see if they did it the day before they left and I just hadn’t noticed. They did not. No one had apparently done it. I’m halfway to tears and hyperventilating and my dad entered the room.

He asks what I was freaking out about and I asked him if he put a doll from my closet on my bed. “What? No!” “But I asked everyone and they all said no!” “laughing Weird.. must be possessed”

That was my breaking point and I broke out into tears and began to have a small panic attack. And then, upon seeing this, my dad admitted he did it the night before as revenge for me not sharing my Little Debbie’s. I started to laugh, but I also kept sobbing. I am.. so angry 😭

Landon suffers from this phobia in varying ways. There are certain dolls that do not bother him. ie Barbie dolls in a store won't get a reaction out of him. Antique stores with old baby dolls? Heaven help him then. It stems from his childhood and the culprit is none other than his grandmother. She was and still is a huge doll collector and to punish Landon locked him in the room with the dolls after he accidentally broke one of her old porcelain figures. He was only a small child when this happened but from then on, tales of dolls coming to steal the souls of bad little boys, he developed a fear. This fear grew and despite efforts from his grandfather to stop Marlena from terrorizing him, this phobia stuck. Landon is honestly someone who falls into that uncanny alley area. It's his worst nightmare.

Its a subtype of Automatonophobia, which is described as the fear of humanoid figures.

Some people are afraid of all dolls and stuffed toys, while others fear only a specific type. Dolls that talk or move and old-fashioned china dolls are especially common targets of fear.

This fear is not to be confused with Pedophobia, which is the fear of children. It is common for one to have both, so that one is afraid or disturbed by all baby dolls in that category.

Pediophobia affects at least 9% of adults, and 16% of children.

Pediophobia may also be described as Uncanny Valley
