Hi, I just wanted to say how much I love your feral fic. It is soooo good and so nicely written.

I particularly enjoyed the drabble where Ellie called Red "Mom." I feel like Ellie would feel more and more comfortable calling her mom and would do it more often until it became totally natural. What do you think? Also, do you think she would ever call Joel Dad? If so, I would love to see how this change the dynamic of their family.

She doesn't call Joel Dad because there's more complicated feelings there. He was already someone else's dad unlike Red who hadn't been a mom. She knows about Sarah and knows he's trying to work through that grief. And in her heart, he is her dad. But there's still pain from the hospital, from how he swore, from the uncertainty of if he was telling the truth or not. That's what holds her back. They're all just trying to get use to being in one place where it's safe and everything is new to all of them. Ellie's never been outside QZ life, Red is trying to adjust, Joel is trying to handle a gentler way of living. It would be later, when things have settled a bit and the realization that Joel and Red aren't going to leave her like everyone else and holy shit, these may be permanent people in her lives. Like it slips out, every now and then, when her brain is too in overdrive to overthink it and Red never says anything about it but doesn't refute it.

But Red had stopped picturing herself ever being a mom years and years ago after Annie and after she could no longer have children. It was simply a fact that she wouldn't be one. She was an older sister, not a real mom, so it takes getting use to. That Ellie is her kid. She's hers. It's a fact in her bones and her heart, but her brain is lagging behind. So Ellie brings it up. Late at night after she asks to sleep in their room again. Because the storm outside is so loud it sounds like bombs and when they were on the road that meant they huddled close since you couldn't hear if anyone was sneaking up. She's in between them both on a bed not quite made for three people and she whispers, hoping the rain will drown her out, "Hey, Red?" But Red hears because she always does and Joel is laying on his bad ear so he hears her as well. She grunts an acknowledgement, a little sleepy sounding, but awake. Ellie's voice is choked and hesitant (which has them both very alert), but she manages to stutter out, "You're my mom, right?" It's not the way she had intended to word it. Everything got jumbled together and that's what came out. Somehow "Do you want to be my mom?" and "Can I call you Mom?" got mixed together. But she feels her eyes on her in the darkness then her head nudges her own, almost nuzzling her hair, "Yeah, kiddo, I am." It's unspoken that there's permission there. Because you call your mom Mom. Of course. She doesn't say it all the time, but when it does come out there's less anxiety around the word and more comfort and safety and joy. Because she has a mom now.

omg yes! so i think i may have talked about this on here but i am currently in grad school for speech pathology... hopefully in five years i am moved out, and have a stable job but i should have a stable job by next year when i graduate... grad school just takes over ur life, so i'll be doing externships soon and i hope to have an idea of where i want to be..

i plan on a LOT of travel... i'm lucky enough to have people who will take me places so next month i'm going to toronto with some friends and next janurary i'm going to the south of france, a few places in italy, and malta!

idk if i want to have my own buisness but i do have hopes to open my own private practice for people with varying neurological disorders!

"Are you a firefly?" she asked, like she had just read your mind, or you were thinking out loud.  “not a firefly,” you said. you held back a laugh, but she saw the flash of a smirk.
