The linear quests and almost complete lack of character interactions/dialogue choices based on your race/culture/class etc and branching dialogue options TES games so far, will never not be frustrating. It's always been a huge weak spot with the Elder Scrolls compared to other rpgs. But to be a bit optimistic, I think TES will do better than previous games when it comes to this. Starfield was a letdown, thanks mainly to the procedural exploration, but if there's one thing it, (and Fallout 4) has showed, is that it seems like BGS is at least trying to improve in that regard.

Starfield had actual proper dialogue choices and consequences in a lot of quests, and unique skill checks etc, so I think TES6 will at least have some actual choices and consequences, and I hope some culture/racial based dialogue as well. One of the few quests that had this in Skyrim was the Thalmor Embassy, but this was essential a hidden mechanic most people don't even realize you can do, where if you played an Altmer anf take on Thalmor robes, you can walk around without getting attacked and trick the guard to take his post. I'm actually pretty confident tes6 will have more quests like that. Especially after the popularity of BG3 and Cyberpunk etc, I do think we'll see less linear quests.

managed to catch the last twenty minutes of a writing workshop run by a local author whose work i have not read & at the end he passingly mentioned that he does a lot of stuff with invisible illness because of his own autoimmune stuff & so i came up to talk to him very incoherently like "oh invisible illness!! i-!! lupus!!" and he was like "OH AMAZING" and then took my email and is putting me in touch with his professional writing partner who writes and teaches almost exclusively about living with & managing chronic illness & injecting people's illness experiences into fiction :) flapping a bit about it.

I am still salty about how Bethesda didn't implement the Confirmed Bachelor or Cherchez La Femme in Fallout 4, and just excluded perk based speech in general. Yeah sure, we finally had romance options and all of the companions you can romance are "player sexual", but the lack of including those perks just makes the game feel so shallow in comparison to the Original Fallout games and New Vegas. And unless you romance a woman as Nora or a man as Nate, same sex relationships might as well not exist in their Fallout games.
