So Big Blue Bubble is doing a Perplexplore contest where people come up with theories related to the monster world. I doubt I’d win, and I have no need for the stationary set they’re giving the winner and runners-up (although it sounds really cool), so I’m posting my theory here. My theory is…Epic Cherubble’s paranoia is caused by two things: the monster-world equivalent of paranoid schizophrenia, and insomnia.

Full theory below the cut

First, we need to look at Epic Cherubble’s bio.

Note how it says that Epic Cherubble is constantly on edge. That is a clear sign of paranoia, one of the three symptoms of schizophrenia this monster shows.

Another thing to note is its animations. Unlike its common and rare counterparts (who are sleeping when idle/playing), Epic Cherubble is awake when idle and playing. That’s another sign of schizophrenia: sleep disturbances like insomnia.

Finally, the little creatures playing the harp on its back. The bio says its “overactive imagination” is what created these things, and they were brought to life accidentally. Keyword: Accidentally. These creatures could very well be hallucinations. “But couldn’t it be maladaptive daydreaming?” It could, but note the fact they were brought to life accidentally. A person with schizophrenia cannot control their hallucinations.

This also explains why they’re unable to sleep, despite actively trying to do so (see its idle and playing animations); their hallucinations are so bad, they manifest into super realistic nightmares, so the poor thing has to remain awake no matter what.

Of course, there are other paranoia-related disorders, but paranoid schizophrenia is the most common one, so it makes sense that Epic Cherubble would have the monster-equivalent of it. Though on the flipside, I wonder if common and rare Cherubble have narcolepsy, since they’re constantly asleep. That’s a theory for another time though.

With a map like this, you know everything is all coming together. And I mean EVERYTHING. It’s pretty obvious that this version of the map is gonna stay for the rest of MSM’s life as a game, it’s gonna be used to help every single island discovered in the future fit together for the entire puzzle to be complete. The full picture is coming together, and I’m excited to see how it’s gonna all turn out once it’s all said and done.

Perplexploregender (or Spurritgender): A gender that relates to the Perplexplore event in My Singing Monsters. It may also relate to exploration, discoveries, maps, compasses, and being just a silly little guy (/gn). It can also be a seasonalgender that is impacted by Perplexplore.

Life-Formulagender (or Monculusgender): A gender that relates to the Life-Formula event in My Singing Monsters. It may also relate to creation, bubblirite, the Spark of Life, and the monster world. It can also be a seasonalgender that is impacted by Life-Formula.

SkyPaintinggender (or Whiz-banggender): A gender that relates to the SkyPainting event in My Singing Monsters. It may also relate to Pride, fireworks, rainbows, light, clouds, and explosions. It can also be a seasonalgender that is impacted by SkyPainting.

MindBogglegender (or Boo'qwurmgender): A gender that relates to the MindBoggle event in My Singing Monsters. It may also relate to back-to-school season, books, intelligence, learning, students, and teachers. It can also be a seasonalgender that is impacted by MindBoggle.

Spurrit Lore

I owe some elaboration for my last post. Allow me to summerize: Sometime in the early 1900's, an English explorer by the name of Dr. Wardin E. Spurrit would become the first human to make physical contact with the monster world. Prior to this, he had been studying monsters from picking up inter-dimensional frequencies with a modified radio, and created a device called the S.E.W. that would finally allow him to see their world in-person.

However, during his last trip to the monster world, he would end up losing the S.E.W., and he hadn't been heard from by the human world since; although, the device is still functioning somewhere, as the random entrances it opens in the human world are tracked and used by Monster-Handlers to this day. An eccentric and elusive man, all we know about Wardin's time in the Monster world is that he had a fairly positive relationship with its inhabitants, even being gifted a statue in his honor. Though it has yet to be directly stated, it's very heavily implied that Spurrit is the result of Wardin Spurrit becoming magically mutated into a monster from spending a few hundred years in the monster world (and probably influenced by drinking all that Living Ocean water). TL;DR: Spurrit is (most likely) just a really fucked-up human explorer.
