Coronavaccinatie ook beschikbaar voor kinderen jonger dan 5 jaar met een medisch hoog risico

Kinderen jonger dan 5 jaar met een medisch hoog risico hebben een grotere kans om ernstig ziek te worden door corona dan hun leeftijdsgenoten. Bijvoorbeeld vanwege een hart- of longaandoening of een afweerstoornis. Daarom kunnen zij vanaf 16 januari op uitnodiging van de kinderarts gevaccineerd worden op speciaal aangewezen GGD-locaties. Het gaat om ongeveer 5000 kinderen met een verhoogd medisch risico. Hiermee volgt het ministerie van VWS het advies van de Gezondheidsraad. Voor kinderen van 5 jaar en ouder met- en zonder medisch risico is de coronaprik sinds begin 2022 beschikbaar. Kinderdosering van BioNTech/Pfizer Ouders van kinderen jonger dan 5 jaar met een ernstige medische aandoening ontvangen vanaf 12 januari 2023 een uitnodiging van de kinderarts. Met deze uitnodiging kunnen zij vanaf 16 januari op afspraak terecht op speciaal aangewezen GGD locaties. De basisserie bestaat uit drie prikken met een kinderdosis van het Pfizervaccin. Dit vaccin is op 19 oktober 2022 goedgekeurd door het Europees geneesmiddelenagentschap EMA. Coronaprik voor gezonde kinderen jonger dan 5 jaar niet nodig Voor gezonde kinderen jonger dan 5 jaar is vaccinatie tegen het coronavirus niet nodig. Volgens de Gezondheidsraad is het risico dat zij ernstig ziek worden door corona laag. Ook MIS-C, een ernstige ontstekingsreactie na een coronabesmetting, komt zelden voor bij kinderen jonger dan 5 jaar. Daarbij zien we deze complicatie minder vaak sinds de omikronvariant van het coronavirus dominant is. Ook krijgen kinderen die eerder een infectie hebben gehad vrijwel nooit MIS-C. De Gezondheidsraad concludeert dat het aantal kinderen dat nog risico loopt op MIS-C beperkt is, omdat een groot aantal kinderen al besmet is geweest met het coronavirus. Vaccinatie zal hen nauwelijks betere bescherming bieden tegen MIS-C.
