ELLA’S MONTHLY WRAP-UP: AUGUST 2018

It has been an incredibly wild month. On top of my 21st birthday last August 8, I got a bunch of beautiful books courtesy of the #BookishWish event on Twitter. Not to mention the amazing Philippine Readers and Writers’ Festival that happened at Raffles Makati not too long after.

This has perhaps been my favorite month for books, mostly because I’ve never gotten this many books on my birth month. So let’s dive right in!

Welcome to my first ever wrap-up since relaunching the blog! I’m mostly just going to dabble on the important things that happened this month. Starting with, of course, the ever amazing #BookishWish that happened on Twitter, which had become my main source of my bookish haul this month!

Apparently, #BookishWish has been a thing before and I was so psyched when it started up again at the very end of July and up through the first week of August. I managed to give away some lovely ARC’s I received from the Bookworms Unite PH Year 4 (see my recap here!) to give back to the bookish community, especially since I’ve been granted much of the wishes on my wish list!

Not long after #BookishWish came the Philippine Readers and Writers’ Festival 2018 hosted by National Bookstore. It was a three-day event that was mostly dedicated to bringing readers and writers together to go to book signings and amazing talks that will leave a mark even to this day. That is where I got my most beloved Prisoner of Azkaban Illustrated Edition, as well as These Rebel Waves and Lost Crow Conspiracy. I was super glad to be able to attend such an amazing event!

Now, last but not the least, a wrap up of all the books I read this month! It was not much, but it was definitely more than I can normally read for one month. I would personally like to blame finally getting a job after months for that. With my new work, reading has been particularly difficult. But of course, that will never snuff out the fire of my love for reading.

At the moment, I am currently loving Maas’s ACOTAR series. I know I said I can never connect with Maas after reading Throne of Glass. But I gave ACOTAR a second chance after DNFing it years ago, and let me tell you, I am just absolutely hooked by this world. Who knows? I might just give TOG another shot!

Chief Minister Punjab Sardar Usman Buzdar has said the PDM leadership lacks foresight as this opportunist cabal has no interest in public welfare. In a statement issued on Wednesday, the CM said the PDM continues to bewail from the day first as it would face defeat at every front. The CM advised the opposition parties to relax till 2023 as the politics of development and public welfare will prevail in the country. Every conspiracy hatched against the PTI mandate has been frustrated with public support and negative tactics employed by opposition to obstruct the development process would not be tolerated by the masses, he added. The PTI and its allies were working day and night to bring prosperity and stability to the country while the opposition had faced defeat on every occasion, he maintained. Though the opposition was expert in propaganda tactics, it cannot befool the masses as PM Imran Khan was a strong hope of 220 million people of Pakistan, concluded the CM.

Chief Minister Punjab Sardar Usman Buzdar has said the PTI-led government has made historic legislation in the joint session of the parliament on Wednesday. However, the undemocratic attitude adopted by the opposition with regard to public interest legislation was condemnable; he added and noted that the allies have fully supported the government over legislation. It is unbecoming that the opposition was trying to make its one and a half inch mosque on important issues and such politics does not suit them, he remarked. It is depicting a picture of failure and disorder. Meanwhile, most of the opposition members are unhappy over the behaviour of their leadership, he concluded.

CM WELCOMES PASSING OF EVM BILL

LAHORE, Nov. 17:

The opposition has faced defeat in the joint session of the parliament and it should better shun its negative attitude now.

In a statement, Chief Minister Punjab Sardar Usman Buzdar said the opposition designs had been frustrated and its undemocratic and unethical attitude was deplorable. Those making tall claims had fled away after their defeat as record legislation have been passed in the joint session of the parliament, he added and reiterated that PTI and its allies were on the same page under the leadership of PM Imran Khan.

The CM welcomed the passing of the electronic voting machine bill and hoped that this avant-garde step would ensure transparency in elections and no one would point a figure at the results. Regrettably, the opposition does not want transparent elections and its opposition to the legislation was like pot calling the kettle black. The EVM voting system would ensure transparency, authenticity and accuracy in the election process and it was the fundamental and democratic right of the people which PTI government had given them. He added that cent percent correct results would be achieved. The PTI government has fulfilled its promise by giving the right of vote to expatriates which are the valuable asset of the country, the CM concluded.

Contoh masa Tun M di lantik sebagai PM, YDPA dengan tanda-tangan MP2 dari PH telah melantik Tun M untuk menjadi PM yang ke 7. Walaupun masa transisi dari Tun M ker Tun Abdullah atau pun Tun Abdullah ke Dato Seri Najib, tiada pun undi percaya di zahirkan dalam parlimen. Parti Pemerintah enjoy the majority berdasarkan jumlah yang di bawa di hadapan YDPA Now kita balik kepada hipothesis kenapa transisi ikut perjanjian lebih baik dari undi percaya terhadap DSAI. Jika Tun meletak jawatan dan DSAI present the MP numbers kepada YDPA, dan kalau YDPA berpuas hati, baginda boleh melantik DSAI sebangai PM8 di dalam dewan rakyat. Dan PH-yang ori mungkin akan jadi balik macam status PRU13; pengkhinat dari PH akan kalah teruk di kerusi mereka yang marginal dalam PRU15. 4) Kalau jumlah MP yang support DSAI tak cukup majoriti dan MP yang support Tun M pun tak cukup majoriti, kita akan ada state parlimen tergantung. Mungkin terpaksa buat kerajaan campuran tapi kalau tak boleh capai persetujuan, parlimen terpaksa di bubarkan walaupun PM ada option untuk extend sidang parlimen untuk 6 bulan lagi untuk garner support. Kalau parlimen di bubarkan sebelum cukup tempoh 3 tahun, first timer MP macam TITM most likely tidak akan dapat pencen sebab tidak cukup tempoh 3 tahun. Jadi bubar parlimen bukanlah jalan yang MP2 akan pilih especially MP-MP dari PH yang mana sentimen dari rakyat tidak berapa nak cantik terhadap PH. Jadi undi percaya pada next PM walaupun legally correct dan dibenarkan; it is like uncharted waters. Tak pernah di cuba di parlimen kita dan hanya untuk boosted personal ego. Winners take all and losers take the fall. Jadi transisi PM secara perjanjian adalah lebih baik dari segi kestabilan parti memerintah dan jaminan yang legasi bekas PM akan di teruskan. Agak kelakar apabila Tuan Ibrahim dari parti lebai mahu bawa usul "sokong Tun M sebagai PM" di dalam Dewan Rakyat. Tdak disangka sebegitu rendah level pemikiran politik Timbalan Presiden parti lebai berkenaan. Tidak menjadi kelakar sekiranya cadangan itu dibuat ketika tiada ketentuan siapa jadi PM. Apabila jawatan PM telah diberikan kepada Tun M dan diperkenankan oleh YDP Agong, apa keperluan cadangan Tuan Ibrahim ini? Selepas anak dara Tuan Ibrahim diijabkabulkan dengan seseorang, baru Tuan Ibrahim berkata,"Saya sokong dia jadi menantu saya". Lawak tak? Kecuali, Tuan Ibrahim mahu bawa usul "Hilang kepercayaan terhadap PM". itu baru munasabah. Tugas Speaker dewan adalah membenarkan usul2 yang boleh memberi faedah kepada rakyat atau ada kepentingan umum melibatkan rakyat atau negara. Tidak semua usul yang dibawa, Speaker akan terima untuk dibahas di dalam Parlimen. Usul2 bodoh seperti ini sudah tentu akan ditolak oleh Speaker kerana membuang masa Dewan Rakyat untuk membahaskan perkara yang telah pun wujud. Sebab itu penting memilih Wakil Rakyat yang cerdik. Tugas Wakil Rakyat atau Ahli Parlimen bukan semudah tugas "Datuk Nikah Kahwin" dalam filem "Musang Berjanggut".

Usul yang mahu dicadangkan oleh Tuan Ibrahim (atas) itu tiada makna apa2. Tidak mengubah apa2 kerana selagi tiada usul "Undi Tidak Percaya" kepada PM, selagi itulah wujudnya PM sekarang. So, apa tujuan usul tersebut? Adalah lebih baik jika usul tersebut digantikan dengan usul pindaan RUU Akta 355 yang lebai Hadi bawa dulu dan dia sendiri tangguhkan dulu? Bukankah itu lebih berfaedah dan syarie? Oppss..saya terlupa, rupa2nya pindaan RUU Akta 355 itu pun kerajaan PH akan lakukan dan telah pun dimulakan sedikit demi sedikit di Wilayah Persekutuan. Tidak sukar untuk membaca nawaitu jahat lebai katik ini. Tujuannya, apabila dibawa usul ini puak2 lebai akan sokong dan Tun M akan lihat lebai2 mana yang sokong dia dan jika ada kes termakan duit 1MDB diharapkan Tun M boleh setelkan. Di samping itu, mereka mahu lihat mana2 MP yang tidak sokong Tun M. Itu sahaja nawaitu lebai ni. Apa faedahnya kepada rakyat jika usul itu dibuat? Andainya majoriti tidak menyokong usul tersebut, maka lebai harap Hadi Awang akan jadi PM? Cukuplah lebai, jangan buat kerja bodoh seperti itu. Tunjukkanlah tahap sebagai MP yang bijak yang boleh menegur kerajaan, bukannya membawa usul yang tidak berfaedah seperti itu. Kalau tidak mahu sangat Anwar jadi PM, buatlah usul "Undi Tidak Percaya" kepada Anwar apabila Anwar menjadi PM tidak beberapa lama lagi. Saya khuatir, apabila Anwar jadi PM nanti, puak lebailah yang pertama mengetuk pintu pejabat PM. Contohnya telah ada, betapa dihinanya Tun M sebelum PRU14 tetapi merekalah yang pertama ketuk pintu pejabat PM dengan kulit muka yang tebal. - Wfauzdin Ns

There are three main groups that do not want Anwar Ibrahim to have a smooth transition in becoming the next Prime Minister. The first is the business group, who surrounds the present PM, and they are afraid that the gravy train will no longer be coming to them. The second is the ambitious dreamers who think, with some horse-trading, they can become the next occupants of Putrajaya. The last group is the strategic thinkers for Maufakat Nasional, who believe that the longer Dr Mahathir Mohamad helms Pakatan Harapan the faster Harapan will rot and hence, more comfortable for them to win the next general election. All three will fail miserably because they think they are smart enough to easily fool the voters who supported Harapan during the last election. Using their usual battery of propagandists to confuse the voters, they started by saying that the PM can reshuffle the cabinet as he wishes. In other words, they implied that the PM could remove the PKR elements supporting Anwar, DAP ministers and Amanah ministers, and replaced them with the traitors and the hopefuls from Maufakat Nasional. The short answer is that the PM cannot do this. In a parliamentary Westminster model that we follow, the mandate obtained from the voters will require the cabinet to comprise members of the Harapan coalition.

The mandate of the people was conferred on the political grouping called Harapan and not directly to an individual. Our PM has no more power than the collective strength of Harapan. He cannot cannibalise Harapan without cannibalising himself. This is unlike that of a presidential system. A president can dismiss the entire cabinet and appoints a new set of ministers because he was elected directly by the people, the nature of a presidential mandate is different from that of our PM. Faced with this problem the propagandists then conjure a new trick. They now say that an opposition party can move a motion of confidence in Parliament to demand that the present PM continue to be in office well into the future. There is another propagandist that says Anwar must have the support of the Dewan Rakyat to be PM. He was not insistent of this requirement when Mahathir was made PM. This trick again is an improper exercise of the powers of the Dewan. It's never done elsewhere. The Dewan Rakyat is a legislative body entrusted to pass laws which the country requires. The office of the PM is not within the competence of the legislature but that of the executive.

It is up to the parties in government to decide on the issue of who becomes the PM. If the selection of the PM by the government of the day is one that is not a popular choice then someone can move a vote of no confidence against the PM and his government. If the motion succeeds, then Parliament can be dissolved, and the country faces another general election. So we need to do things properly and step by step. It is unbecoming and stupid for anyone to think Anwar will not have the support of the Dewan Rakyat when he assumes office. It is mischievous and self-serving to conclude that we have to find someone else now since Anwar might not have the necessary support. I don't want to labour much about when Mahathir should step down. That's for Harapan to decide. My concern is I don't want our country to look stupid when leaders talk absolute nonsense about the rudiments of parliamentary democracy. A political party like PAS will propose anything they fancy without worrying too much about credibility since they are a religious party. Still, I was hoping that the more literate political leaders and commentators will not be so desperate to utter political rubbish when canvassing a political point. - Zaid Ibrahim

Berita ini telah menjadi viral dalam laman sosial yang lain seperti FB, Twitter, Blog dan sebagainya. Seperti biasa, saya menjadi bahan kutukan ultra kiasu. Saya tidak pernah ambil kisah soal kutukan, kerana sudah kebal, berperang di alam maya ini. Cuma fakta kena betul, perlu ada facts and figures kata orang putih. Inilah masalah ultra kiasu. Serkap jarang. Pemikiran kuno dan bodoh. Paku dulang paku serpih, mengatakan orang dia yang lebih.

Ramasamy memberikan respon ke atas berita yang disiarkan oleh Utusan Malaysia bertarikh 6 Ogos 2017, di bawah tajuk “10 Bukti DAP anti-Islam”. Malangnya berita tersebut mengatakan saya adalah penulisnya. Sedangkan saya tidak pernah tulis artikel tersebut yang disiarkan oleh Utusan Malaysia pada 6 Ogos itu. Tetapi menjadi viral dalam media sosial.

Cuma saya teramat kesal ultra kiasu ini menuduh dan menfitnah saya tanpa merujuk fakta. Begitu juga Utusan yang menyiarkannya tanpa bertanya kepada saya.

Sudahlah begitu, ultra kiasu ini mengeluarkan kata-kata jelek terhadap saya, kesalahan yang tidak saya lakukan. P Ramasamy, Timbalan Setiausaha Agung DAP, telah mengeluarkan kenyataan menghina dan merosakkan reputasi saya sebagai seorang selebriti dan pendakwah yang dikenali ramai.

P Ramasamy turut mengeluarkan kata-kata jelek seperti bigot, penghasut, menanam kebencian, memecah belahkan kaum dan bermacam-macam lagi istilah yang tidak sepatutnya keluar daripada seorang pemimpin.

A DAP leader has branded controversial preacher Ridhuan Tee Abdullah as a bigot for coming out with a list of “10 reasons and proof why DAP was anti-Islam” in Utusan Malaysia yesterday. Berita ini ternyata telah merosakkan nama baik dan reputasi saya. Ramasamy juga telah meletakkan saya dalam kedudukan bahaya daripada segi keselamatan kerana saya dikutuk dan diancam dalam media sosial.

Lanjutan daripada itu, saya telah membuat laporan polis mengenai fitnah yang telah mencemarkan nama baik saya. Sekiranya Ramasamy dan FMT tidak membuat permohonan maaf secara terbuka, saya akan meneruskan dengan tindakan undang-undang.

Saya ingin maklumkan kepada pembaca, inilah wajah sebenarnya ultra kiasu. Mereka sentiasa mencari peluang untuk mematikan watak (character assassination) seseorang yang menjadi ancaman kepada mereka. Mereka mahu menonjolkan bahawa merekalah ‘lembu suci’ (sacred cow), tetapi ekor mereka bergelumang tahi.

Seperti yang saya sebut minggu lalu, jika kes mahkamah menyebelahi mereka, maka dicanangkan seluruh seluruh dunia, ‘keadilan’ menyebelahi mereka. Sebaliknya, jika mahkamah keputusan mahkamah tidak menyebelahi mereka, maka dituduh mahkamah dikuasai oleh pemerintah. Mahkamah dan hakim tidak bebas.

Saya harapkan umat Islam membuka mata terhadap perancangan licik ultra kiasu. Lihat sahaja hubungan ultra kiasu ini dengan PAS. Hari ini, mereka sentiasa mencari ruang dan peluang untuk menjatuhkan PAS yang tidak bersama mereka lagi dalam pakatan harapan (PH).

Pantang PAS buat silap atau ada sedikit kelemahan, akan diserang habis-habisan. Misalnya, isu Akta 164 yang diluluskan oleh Parlimen baru-baru ini. Kenyataan rasmi masih belum dikeluarkan oleh PAS. Cuma dikeluarkan oleh seorang dua individu PAS yang bukan bidang. Maka, kenyataan ini dianggap kenyataan PAS, maka PAS diserang habis-habisan, kerana dikatakan tidak pakar atau tidak faham undang-undang.

Sama juga isu korupsi dan rasuah. Jika pemimpin UMNO melakukan rasuah, maka dicanangkan seluruh dunia betapa buruknya UMNO. Lebih malang lagi dikaitkan dengan kerajaan. Mereka juga melakukan rasuah dan korupsi. Apabila SPRM datang membuat siasatan dan mungkin menangkap mereka, maka dicanangkan bahawa SPRM menjadi tunggangan UMNO. Lebih malang lagi dikaitkan dengan kerajaan.

Apa salah kerajaan? Kerajaan adalah kerajaan. Kerajaan tidak bersalah, yang bersalah adalah individu atau parti terbabit.

Perlu dibezakan antara kerajaan Malaysia dengan individu (parti) atau syarikat yang terbabit. Kerajaan adalah kerajaan. Kerajaan Malaysia adalah kerajaan berdaulat. Individu atau syarikat tidak. Mereka adalah entiti dalam kerajaan. Justeru, jangan salah kerajaan. Sama juga menulis papan tanda yang tidak betul, seperti “Ini Projek Kerajaan Barisan Nasional” atau Ini Projek Kerajaan Pakatan Harapan”.

Sejak bila parti politik ada kerajaan? Kerajaan adalah kerajaan. Parti politik hanyalah ‘ruling party’. Inilah kebodohan tahap gaban yang masih berlaku. Bercakap pada perkara bukan bidang sehingga menampakkan kebodohan.

Sebutan yang betul adalah, Kerajaan Malaysia, Kerajaan Selangor, Kerajaan Kelantan. Tulisan yang betul adalah “Ini Projek Kerajaan Malaysia/Kelantan dan lain-lain”. Tidak ada istilah kerajaan BN, Kerajaan PH, Kerajaan UMNO, PAS, PKR dan sebagainya. Perlu diingatkan, parti politik adalah jentera yang menjalankan peranan kerajaan. Kerajaan sudah terbentuk dan berdaulat apabila terbentuk sebuah negara bangsa. Kerajaan adalah kerajaan.

Parti politik tidak ada kerajaan dan mereka tidak berhak memiliki kerajaan. Justeru, saya mengharap ultra kiasu faham. Jangan terlalu berpolitik sehingga menampakkan kebodohan. Saya akan teruskan dengan tindakan undang-undang jika ultra kiasu ini tidak membuat permohonan maaf secara terbuka dan menarik balik kata-kata jelek beliau bersama laman sosial yang menyiarkan berita tidak benar tersebut.
