Repairing a stuffed animal is a very cathartic thing. Like:
you've been loved so dearly that part of you is beginning to fall apart, but I can put you back together. Your stitching won't be the same, but I can fix you, it might be a little lopsided but you're good as new and I can love you again.

Dakota getting a 68% on a math test. It’s not much but god did he work hard for that.
He studied, did the homework (plus extra worksheets), asked William for help, read the textbook, he worked SO hard.
And it comes back a 68% all on his own, no cheating, no foul play, just him.
And he is so proud of himself, so proud of himself because he’s never passed a test like that before and he did! It’s a passing grade!!! He passed. Barely, but it still counts.
He shows EVERYONE this test because he’s so happy, he’s so proud of himself he is off the WALLS. He nearly bowled William over in his excitement after class. They’re so proud of him.
Tide hangs it up on the fridge with a smiley face sticker and one that says “good job” and he’s so proud of Dakota because he KNOWS how hard Dakota has worked for it. They’re all so proud of him!!

I think it would be funny if the only reason that Rolan wasn’t as connected to the hive is NOT because he left Galloway for ten years.
Instead it is due to the fact that after the incident by the tree Rand or Kian found him and he essentially accidentally pack bonded with them over the hive—imprinted like a baby duck

Jay told Chip “I’m going to cut my hair” and all he responded with was “okay, sounds good.”
And she hesitates, because now she doesn’t know what to do. She doesn’t know why she didn’t think he would go along with it (her father never did), but now she doesn’t know. She expected a fight, an argument, that’s how it’s always been. (I want to pierce my ears. I want a haircut. I want to wear something else. And it always lead to a fight).
And she asks “you aren’t going to tell me not to?” And he responds “do what you want.” He doesn’t really care and maybe his apathy is a welcome reprieve, because he doesn’t care about her presentation.
“Okay, I’m going to cut my hair,” she finally concludes and she’s still waiting for a fight. Waiting for Chip to say some snide comment that she’ll just have to respond to. She practically goaded him, searching every sentence with something polarized enough she would need to defend.
But he just looks up and nods. And Jay doesn’t know if his acceptance, or his completely neutrality to it is a reassurance or not. It’s different than what she’s used to. She’s used to a fight, always on edge and waiting to defend herself.
So she prods a little harder, “I’m gonna cut it really short. Like above my ears.” And Chip nods again and hums and Jay really doesn’t know what to do with herself. She’s still standing next to Chip and she doesn’t know what to do now. She said she was going to cut her hair and Chip is okay with it. That feeling is odd. It’s different. It’s new.
And Jay is still standing there, and Chip doesn’t know what she’s trying to get at. But she’s trying to do something. He doesn’t know what the bait is enough to take it. “Do you want me to help?” He offers, because he doesn’t know what else he’d do.
Jay didn’t expect to get this far, she had her defenses prepared, her arguments all lined up. Because she wanted to get the argument done first. But none came. And she realizes she doesn’t know how to cut hair.
“Yes. I want you to help,” she admits because she doesn’t know what she’s doing. And she had bothered Chip this much already.
