**********SPOILERS BELOW**********

Nothing renews your soul (and conscience) like a ‘Vision Quest’ that starts once you squeeze through a glory hole in a public restroom and accidentally flush yourself down toilet. Drowning is really great way to get close to God… Well, that an picking up pennies on a busy train track. Jacob is a failure of a pigeon who sits in front of his computer screen all day and talks shit to online gamers… But we’ve all been there, right? It’s his brother Miles’ birthday and he’s the Golden Pigeons to end all Golden Pigeons… Miles is voiced by Usher and Jacob is Lauren Lapkus’ best version of an unconfident, whimpering teenage pigeon with a weird sexual attraction to Lois Griffin from 'Family Guy’ and a very one sided view on Jewish People and Suicidal Bakers.

At one point during Jacob’s vision quest he’s propositioned by a fox to take a left in a fork in the road… I’m not sure if Jacob is brushed up on his 'Little Red Riding Hood’, but he made the right decision anyway… Always go with the Jewish accountants and stays clear of over eager Foxes with sick rhyming skills (I see you, Killer Mike & Big Boi… These raps in 'Animals’ are always a highlight).

Jacob completes his vision quest and comes to terms that he technically caused his brother’s death… In which he responds by admitting to his parents what really happened. They laugh it off and for the first time ever, Jacob sees the giant wall of his dead brothers and sisters that ballparks somewhere in the upwards of 50’s. Moral of the story? Death is inevitable, you can’t kill yourself with licorice, and Killer Mike & Big Boi are literally masters of their crafts. Also… If you see a penny, leave that shit be and pay attention to the family portraits… Ask questions, don’t be an asshole!

Let’s not forget the story arc that link all Animal’s episodes together. S2 premiere showed Mike & Phil (the OG rats) escape from the lab they were being tested on and now there’s a widespread epidemic of 'Virus X’ starting to break free in New York. A hotshot reporter is on the case and following the evil scientist… And the Saga continues… Roaches are up next. I seriously love 'Animals’ more and more with each episode… Can’t wait to see what the ratings look like this season, would love to have a S3 in the future, this project has to be one of HBO’s more cost effective ones at the moment. Might as well keep this shit going!!

Animals (S02E01) Rats Airdate: March 17, 2017 @hbo Ratings: 0.275 Million :: 0.07 18-49 Demo Share Score: 8.25/10 **********SPOILERS BELOW********** 'Animals' is one of those weird, obscure series that at first feels like there's no real point to it, and you're just riding a wave of bizarre animation... But about halfway the cats episode in season 1, I realized that this was going to hit some high notes. As the season wore, we saw a core narrative being framed with the Mayor and his 'exploits' as all the animals around him had their own little existential, life changing 'adventures'...Leading all the way up to the big parade and Phil & Mike being captured by the scientist. I had pretty much forgotten that this narrative actually existed, I was happy to have the fun, raunchy, sometimes psychedelic animated show back again... S1 didn't rake in great ratings for HBO in the Archaic land of Nielsen, but they had already secured a season 2 deal when they went forward with the series and anyway HBO doesnt really rely on ratings as much. Now that they have their own OTT app ( 2 of them actually), they probably have a much better idea of just who the hell is watching animals and when they're doing it. As Mike & Phil went through their daily 'lab rat' routines (man these two have had extremely full lives), I totally fell back into the shows unconventional vibe. Then Phil went on his hunger strike and started to have the crazy visions, remembering the past' and suddenly seeing flashes of the present, but much different then how they normally saw it, with Lumpy and her Brittish "butt stuff", and I thought... Holy Shit, this is some next level shit." Seriously, I wish I still smoked weed because this show would be perfect stoned to the bone. The algae scene was something straight out of a strange DMT trip, or maybe a weird 2-CB, LSD combination. So meta! And let's not forget our tender fleas... Who have made their way on to a circus monkey to try and get their way into Madison Square Guarden, so that they could have court side seats to the Knicks games... Cause I mean, who's a bigger fan of the Knicks than a couple of fanatical fleas?! Unfortunately they did t foresee the monkey being captured and sold into the lab testing business... C'est La Vie! Totally gay fleas too... You know, for good measure. I for one am stocked 'Animals' has returned, and now that I have a good sense of what this show is really all about, I'm even more excited for what's to come... Bring on the maniacal, S&M kitties and of course Mike & Phill and Phill & Mike!
