zhongli immediately tries to find the core of the problem. “what is it that troubles you, dearest? perhaps we can find a more peaceful solution? violence is not always the answer. this, i know from all the 6000 years i’ve lived—” aaaand there he goes on his lecture. if your goal was to get him to give you a preaching of a lifetime, well, congratulations, you’ve done it. sit back and relax, brew some tea, maybe get some snacks, because you’ll be here for a while.
Tumblr media
al haitham, surprisingly, actually humors you. only because he knows you were teasing him and this is his way of teasing you back, but you’ll probably end up staring at him in confusion because he looks dead serious while doing so. “what an interesting offer. i’ll have to ask you to submit a formal proposal through your special submission channel. make sure you have several backup plans in case of emergencies. have it on my desk by tomorrow afternoon, the latest.”
Tumblr media
wriothesley straight up denies you with a roll of his eyes. he knows you’re joking, and honestly speaking he would stain his hands with blood for you, but as much as he loves you, he really didn’t want you to end up at the fortress while under a sentence. although theoretically he could pull some strings to make sure you spent your sentence peacefully if that scenario ever happened, the fact was that such records will follow you for the rest of your life, and he wants you to stay in the sunlight. “what did i always tell you? don’t break the law... but if you really want to, how about you try to steal my breath away with a kiss?”
Tumblr media
neuvillette stops writing his reports immediately, eyes wide and mouth slightly open. “my dear, come sit, let us converse.” he holds your hand and proceeds to rope you into a heart-to-heart talk. are you being harassed by someone? are you being threatened? the cup of water rippled erratically as he waited for you to answer those particular questions. is there something he could do to help that wouldn’t make either of you getting dragged into a court trial? can he— …. yeah, someone save him, he totally thinks that you’re serious.
Tumblr media
childe agrees immediately. is that even a question? “sure! who do you need me to kill?” he asks, with his signature wide boyish grin plastered onto his face and his hand twitching to reach for his hydro blade. look. it’s your ajax. your (man)childe. your tartaglia. i bet you liked his murderous tendencies anyway. are you even surprised?
Tumblr media
kaeya makes it a point to gasp and looking like a maiden who caught the sight of two lovers rendezvousing in the garden. when he notices you not buying his act, however, he laughs and switches gear into a teasing smile, “oh? was me stealing your heart not enough?”
Tumblr media
diluc stares at you blankly, one eyebrow raised, his voice monotonous — if you hadn’t known how to read his minuscule reactions, you would have missed the spark of mirth dancing in his eyes; a trace of the young ‘luc buried deep inside the scarred heart of a charred phoenix, “…. hmph. did kaeya put you up to this?”
Tumblr media
tighnari hums nonchalantly and gives you a knowing smirk, his tail swishing mischievously behind him, “perfect. i do have a rare specimen i’d like to plant. i’m sure it’ll benefit well from the nutrients it’ll absorb from your victim. so, where did you put the body?”

Godot shocked for the fourth time
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Diego didn't know that Maya didn't see him. I guess that's why he hoped she could testify against him.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
One of the big mysteries in the story: Who put up the lock?
There is one single person who knew exactly who did it. It's murderer. Diego took Maya to the inner temple, cleaned up the crime scene, came back and saw the lock. Apart from him and sleeping Pearl, there is no one on the island. He realized that Maya did it. Why? Mia's plan looks obvious, but not for Diego. Another reason was more obvious for him: Maya Fey is afraid of him. I think this is the only reason that came to his mind. I think he also didn't try to open the lock at night because he didn't want to go against Maya's wishes. He was afraid to make things worse. When he began to think that Maya had passed out from the cold and was no longer able to open the door herself, he began to lose his mind. Maya hid in the refrigerator and is about to die because she is afraid of Diego! If Maya dies, it will be entirely his fault. Diego hated himself so much at that moment... No wonder he took it out on Phoenix.
He would never have guessed that Maya was afraid of Dahlia. Because he thinks he's more scary than Dahlia. Thus, Diego could not guess that Iris was fake, because he knew the reason why Maya locked herself. He was sure Maya hadn't chanalling Dahlia.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
So
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Mia could have told her to lock herself up without a Dahlia. This would protect Maya. But it wouldn't protect Diego.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Oh Diego. Your brain has completely switched off from your feelings of guilt.
Let's fast forward to the past.
Before Mia, no one knew where Maya Fey was. Dahlia revealed that she had locked Iris away, but Maya killed her own mother and committed suicide.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
River Godo in the japan version. It's a very painful assumption because of Diego's nickname and his fear that Maya would die because of him. Dahlia is in front of him, but he still doesn't understand that Maya channeling her. So for a little moment, Diego believed Dahlia.
But then...
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
He woke up. They confirmed over the phone that only Iris was in the inner temple. But Diego was not scared, unlike Phoenix. I think he remembered something:
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Something nice.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Meanwhile Phoenix is in despair.
Tumblr media
And just as the judge was about to complete the court...
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Senpai suddenly woke up in Diego
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Phoenix will use this phrase two more times in this trial. I'm sure he will quote Diego on other trials as well. In fact, Diego didn't realize that Maya channeling Dahlia until Phoenix revealed that Maya is in the courtroom right now. I like how Diego handles new information. At first he is shocked, then he pretends not to believe and argues, and in the end, after new evidence, he does not look surprised.

The Delites as the mirroring device in Trials and Tribulations
This post contains extensive AA3 spoilers.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
I want to talk about some neat parallels I noticed while replaying Trials and Tribulations. Now I recognize I might be reaching, but I'm convinced that the Delites are a fun house mirror version of Phoenix and Iris/Dahlia in more ways than one, and I will attempt to convince you too. If you are interested, click keep reading.
1. Phoenix Wright and Ron Delite
I already gave a preview of this one but I just want to reiterate how similar some of their sprites are in terms of posture and facial expressions.
Tumblr media
I believe these sprites serve to reinforce that they play similar roles in their respective cases -- a soft, emotional, and pathetic defendant who's quite a handful for you, the defense attorney. For example, both of them insist on their guilt just when the player is ready to secure the not guilty verdict. We also come to learn that they are motivated by the same thing. Phoenix is willing to eat a glass vial that used to store poison for his girlfriend, and Ron is willing to commit heists to fund his wife’s shopping sprees. Selfless love is what drives their actions throughout the story.
2. Iris/Dahlia Hawthorne and Dessie Delite
Once again, I gave a sneak peek in the preview, but let's take another look at their sprite similarities. Even though Dessie has a lot fewer sprites than either Iris or Dahlia, she still shares her facial expressions with some of them.
Tumblr media
(I even think the placement of Dessie's glasses sort of resemble Dahlia's braids, but that can be up to your interpretation)
Following the Phoenix/Ron parallel, Dessie is Ron's partner and Dollie (Dahlia + Iris) used to be Phoenix’s partner. If I wanted to get really crazy for a second I'd also note that the nicknames given to the women by their partners -- Dessie and Dollie -- are frighteningly alike. It doesn't stop there though, since Dessie also plays a sort of faux love interest role to Phoenix -- she has an affectionate nickname for him (Nicky Boy), just like Iris does (Feenie), and we see him blush around her a couple of times. I believe this is meant to indirectly solidify the parallel between Dessie and Iris/Dahlia.
By now I hope I've shown that there are quite a few similarities between these two couples. They share sprites and the storyline of a guy so hopelessly in love that he'd do anything for his girl.
In other words, Ron/Dessie = Phoenix/Dollie.
That's not the end of it though, because I'm convinced that these parallels can run in the opposite direction too.
3. Phoenix Wright and Dessie Delite
My experience of replaying The Stolen Turnabout right after Turnabout Memories was basically “oh my god she’s literally saying the same things Phoenix did in the previous case”. For example, she notably describes her first meeting with Ron as love at first sight.
Tumblr media
Guess who else likes to gush about the love at first sight he experienced?
Tumblr media
Dessie refuses to believe that her Ronnie could be a criminal. She is confident in his innocence even in the face of his confession. This is just like Phoenix's earnest belief that his Dollie is not capable of committing murder.
Tumblr media
Coincidentally, they both turn out to be correct in that their partners really didn't commit murders. It was Luke Atmey operating under Mask☆Demasque's identity that killed Kane Bullard. It was Dahlia operating under Iris's identity (gets a little complicated here, since yes, Dahlia was the one to first meet Phoenix, but Iris was the one doing most of the dating, so I'll say she's the one with the identity of "Phoenix’s girlfriend" even if it's in Dahlia's name) that killed Doug Swallow. So in both cases the culprits were actually individuals who were operating under Ron's and Dollie's identities. Which brings me right to my next point,
4. Iris/Dahlia Hawthorne and Ron Delite
Something that really struck me was that for both Ron and Dahlia, their first job involved stealing a diamond in some way. Ron's is pretty straightforward -- we know he stole a diamond in order to sell it and make money for his wife. Meanwhile Dahlia took extra steps to make her theft seem like a kidnapper demanding a diamond as ransom, but the end goal was still the same: get away with a $2 million dollar diamond and become rich.
Oh, and both Ron and Dahlia have red hair.
However, at its core, Ron's story is much more similar to Iris's. They both got roped into a "two people working under the same identity" scheme with a side of getting framed for murder. And love is the motivator here too. Ron commits heists for Luke Atmey because he loves his wife and doesn’t want her to leave him.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
 Iris takes on Dahlia’s identity to get closer to Phoenix and take away the necklace because because she loves her sister and does not want her to commit another murder.
Tumblr media
So to sum it up, Ron = Phoenix and Dessie = Dahlia/Iris on a surface level. But it's Ron = Dahlia/Iris and Dessie = Phoenix once you dig deeper.
Why bother with setting up these parallels at all? I am guessing the goal was mainly to foreshadow the events in Bridge to The Turnabout. Turnabout Memories introduces Dahlia, a key player in BTTT, and establishes her connection to Phoenix. Then immediately afterwards The Stolen Turnabout plants the idea of a switched identities plot into the player's head and hints that, maybe, Phoenix was not so crazy for believing his Dollie was not the same one he faced during his trial.
So yeah these are my thoughts, thank you for reading!

Idk if i sent it bc my internet kinda died lol.
So uh can i please request Phoenix; Miles and Kristoph with a judge S/O who was at all their trials when they were the accused. Tysm in advance!!! <3
hey hey hey inu anon! thank you for requesting some characters from the trilogy + ajaa era! i've been dying to write for them after replaying the trilogy
for the sake of these hcs, we are ignoring conflict of interest <3
spoilers for 4-1!
﹋﹋﹋﹋﹋﹋﹋﹋﹋﹋﹋﹋﹋﹋﹋﹋﹋﹋﹋﹋﹋﹋﹋﹋﹋﹋﹋﹋﹋﹋﹋
-> phoenix wright
nick is so thankful that you are the judge on some of his trials. it's very rare, but he is always grateful for it.
you're definitely a little more.. competent than other judges. and more unbiased. he appreciates that you actually listen to both sides thoughts before delivering a verdict.
most of his cases are run by judges who jump ship so quickly. he likes that you keep a neutral stance, ensuring a fair trial.
it never gets easier, seeing phoenix in the defendant's seat. after the trial against redd white you honestly never hoped to see him there again after that.
it's hard to see him be accused of a crime that you know he didn't commit, but because of your job you tried to keep a neutral stance.
you never doubted that he didn’t commit it. still, it puts you more at ease when he gets declared innocent.
what he’s not free of, though, is a quick scolding from you! he needs to keep himself out of trouble more so you don’t have to worry about him constantly being wrongfully accused of crimes.
-> miles edgeworth
miles always feels like he's surrounded by idiots in his job. having someone he can trust presiding over his cases always puts him at ease.
unlike a lot of other people, you actually form logical and reasonable conclusions. he is infinitely thankful for your morals when it comes to being a judge.
finding the truth is the most important thing in trials. he’s glad that you follow these ideals when presiding over a case.
seeing him be accused of murder was one of the hardest things you ever had to deal with. especially because you know him. better than anyone.
you know he wouldn’t commit murder; still, your experience with the job makes you see both sides and.. the evidence is damning.
a weight is lifted from your chest when phoenix does get a ‘not guilty’ verdict.
you always believed he was innocent, but actually securing that verdict makes you rest easy.
-> kristoph gavin
kristoph is a perfectionist. he strives for a 'not guilty' verdict and isn't opposed to using underhand means to get there.
i hate to say it, but he definitely uses your judge status to his advantage. he won't overly manipulate you as he does love you, but he will use it in his favor at times.
despite that, he does think you are an excellent judge. he admires the way you run your trials, and knows that you will come to a trustful conclusion.
he tends to speak very highly of you to others, too. whenever a coworker of his mentions that you’re the judge on the case, he will tell them that the case is in good hands with you.
it goes without saying that it hurts to hear all the accusations against him at phoenix’s trial. you know that you need to be unbiased in these cases, but it isn’t easy.
and when the conclusion is the fact that he was guilty of a crime, you’re devestated. you trusted him, how could he do something like this?
he catches your eye as the trial ends and your heart breaks even more.

I know about the first trilogy so talk to me about Apollo and his gang, what’s goin on with those guys
Oh god where do I start with this band of idiots
For anyone who hasn’t played apollo justice Im gonna say right now MAJOR spoilers, actually I’m gonna put a little keep reading doohickey just to make sure I don’t spoil anything. Ok bye
Okay so. Apollo justice: ace attorney takes place well after the original trilogy has ended. Apollo is a rookie lawyer who works under the office of Kristoph Gavin, a lawyer who’s title is the “coolest defense in the west,” because he’s always so dang level headed during his trials. He’s an incredibly successful attorney and he’s your assistant during the first trial of the game. Your job is to defend the legendary Phoenix Wright; who’s now been charged with murder.
And like. Phoenix is a celebrity to Apollo. Apollo’s looked up to that man for all of his law school life. And now he’s defending him??? Shit is crazy!!! Even crazier, you go through that first trial and it turns out Kristoph is the one that killed the guy Phoenix was charged for murdering! Once Apollo picks up on this face Phoenix actually just like. Swaps places physically with Kristoph and suddenly it’s Phoenix as your assistant and you’re questioning your boss which is SO weird and I feel SO bad for Apollo because at the end of that first case Kristoph is proven guilty of murder and like. It was Apollo’s first real case and he’s immediately out of a job. He also, in a fandom famous moment, socks Phoenix in the jaw after the end of that case, because Phoenix admitting to using forged evidence to win the trial against Kristoph. The evidence was a replica of something Krisroph had stolen from the scene, and without it they would’ve lost, and Apollo is rightfully pissed and so he just. Hits him real hard.
But it’s fine because Phoenix hires him later! Only, uh oh, he’s been lawyerless for 7 years so he doesn’t really have the money to pay Apollo? It’s fine no one ever brings it up so somehiw it isn’t an issue even though Apollo makes several snarky comments about not ever getting payed. Anyway now Apollo is working for Phoenix. He’s also subsequently working with Trucy Wright, who is Phoenix’s adopted daughter. She’s kind of crucial to Phoenix’s past because if he hadn’t had a child to take care of he very may well have fallen into some realllllllly unhealthy coping mechanisms during the 7 year gap where he didn’t have his badge. “You keep mentioning this 7 year gap, how did he lose his badge?” you may be asking. WELL my friend I am happy to explain it to you
Remember how Kristoph killed someone? Well, 7 years ago that same man, Zak Gramarye, was charged for murder. Zak was a magician; he performed in a group called Troupe Gramarye, with his partners Valant, Thalassa, and Mr. Reus. The grandmaster of this troupe, Magnifi, was on his death bed, and set up a test for Valant and Zak to see which one would inherit the secrets of his big magic master secrets when he was gone. In this test, he asked each man separately to come in at different times and shoot him. If either actually shot him, they’d fail the test and no one would get the magic secrets. Ultimately Zak came in first and couldn’t bring himself to shoot, which was the answer Magnifi had wanted. Later, Valant came in and couldn’t bring himself to shoot, either, but Zak had already gotten the secrets and so he was told he failed the test. Magnifi then shot himself and instead of telling the doctors “hey this guy just committed suicide,” he decides to frame Zak because he’s mad he didn’t get the magic secrets. Zak is then arrested.
Kristoph was almost chosen to be Zak’s defense attorney. But Zak was a little weirdo and decided that he would only take a lawyer who could beat him at poker, and Kristoph lost to him so he chose Phoenix Wright to defend him instead. Kristoph got pissed and decided to get revenge on Phoenix, and he planted a piece of fake evidence on Phoenix. He then told the prosecutor of the trial that he knew Phoenix was going to use some forged evidence; the prosecutor, by the way, is Kristoph’s younger brother, Klavier. Klavier is young and naive and believes him, and when Phoenix presents the fake evidence in court, Klavier calls him out on it. But before anyone can react to that, Zak disappears. That’s right. The defendant of the case straight up vanishes, in a puff of smoke just like a magic trick. No one ever saw him again (you see him again in a later apollo justice case but it’s more cryptic this way). After the court settled down from that, Phoenix was disbarred for his use of forged evidence and was left alone. Alone, save, for an eight year old Trucy Wright, formerly Trucy Gramarye. That’s right. Zak left his little daughter behind when he disappeared that day, and Phoenix was left to raise a child without his source of lawyerly income. And 7 years from that is where Apollo Justice starts.
So Trucy serves as Apollo’s assistant during the rest of the game. Most of the cases relate back to the Zak Gramarye backstory, you slowly get the whole picture of what really happened as each case goes on. Klavier is your primary prosecutor for this game. Klavier is my absolute favorite because he’s such a freak. In the Japanese games he sprinkles American phrases in his sentences because America is really cool over there, but the way the localization works American references have been switched to German references, and so Klavier turns into this weird German wannabe guy who says things like ‘achtung!’ and ‘ach’ and ‘wunderbar.’ In addition to being a prosecutor he’s in a rock band, so he wears a lot of leather and one of his court sprites in an air guitar. He just riffs on the air for a good ten seconds. He’s so stupid and very much one of them hot idiots and I love him so much. His and Apollo’s dynamic is a beautiful succession to the Edgeworth/Phoenix romance rivalry. The first time we see him he’s staring us down with his hands on his hips and he says ‘I’m used to being inspected by the ladies, but I’ve never felt this way with a man.’ And I just. God he’s so gay. He’s so gay how could he not be. He’s so fucking gay just look at him look him up he is a disaster mess I fucking love him for it
The detective in Apollo justice is also my favorite!!! You remember Ema Skye? The assistant you get in the bonus case of the first ace attorney, the girl who wants to be a forensic scientist? She’s back! It’s her! She’s not a forensic scientist (though in Spirit of Justice she finally gets to that position and she’s so happy and I’m so happy for her) and so she’s pretty grumpy all the time, since she’s stuck doing detective grunt work essentially, but her sprites are full of such emotion and I really adore her character design. She’s very passionate about fingerprinting and spraying luminol fluid and she is what got me hooked on forensics but that is not important she is super passionate about her dream job and she hates Klavier with a burning passion. He tries to be her friend and she is Not Having It. Ever. It’s so funny.
Taking a step back, Trucy and Apollo are actually biological siblings!! They share the same mom, though it’s never said in canon that they figure that out. Thalassa Gramarye, the one from the magic troupe, left the troupe when she was very young and met a musician named Jove Justice. They got married and had a son, Apollo, but while traveling to another kingdom Jove was killed and in the chaos of it all Apollo was lost. Thalassa was devastated and went back home, got married to Zak Gramarye, and had another child, Trucy. Thalassa was supposedly killed during an accident during a magic show, but she actually just lost her memory and wandered the world as a mysterious singer trying to live her life without knowing anything about herself. The siblings never know of their relation, but man that doesn’t stop the sibling energy from shining through. They have SUCH the dynamic of older brother little sister like it’s insane. The first trial Trucy co-counsels for she does this dramatic thing where she pretends to be kidnapped to buy them more time but Apollo thought she was actually kidnapped and he almost cries it’s very funny and also cute. Poor guy. Honestly all of apollo justice could be summed up by looking at Klavier and Apollo and saying poor guys.
Anyway I’m sleepy and I wanna finish all the asks I got so hopefully that is what you wanted! Sorry if this was too long I really like the apollo justice era. It’s such good story and the characters are my favorites, I enjoy them more than any other group. I hope this all makes sense.

Idaho 4 Season 2.1. TAROT. Buckle up team. We’re going back to Moscow, Idaho.
HELLO MY LOVES!
 The idea of following the money came from  @Justice_Serum ♥ I will apologize in advance, I began putting confirmations from Season 1 in and then had a huge project due and completely forgot to post it.
Skip from minutes 20-29 because it's the same thing you've already seen. As long as you understand that this is a deep dive following the money then we'll all start at the same place next reading.
00:00 Introduction
00:24 A NAVY SEAL? We called it
04:14 Reading the Wiki page for Scott Green
08:28 Introducing the Queen of Swords
12:17 Pull up a chair Queen

29:48 SKIP THIS PART, IT DIDN'T GET DELETED
35:52 Ethan's Mic Drop
39:56 The trash is back
45:05 World's Worst Birthing Vessel
47:34 That Scholarship is SUS. It’s time to follow the money.
Who is Scott Green? How did he get a job making almost $500k a year with no qualifications?
In October, Idaho Attorney General Raul Labrador subpoenaed Green, demanding several records related to the University of Phoenix acquisition. I originally wasn't going to record it, but did at the last minute.
I'm creating a timeline for the day an unqualified man accepted the position as the President at the Univeristy of Idaho on July 1, 2019 - November 13, 2022, the day our friends were betrayed.
I'm also looking through the Idaho 4 https://youtu.be/zb6FgZ84vI4?si=SIXR7... series to grab the clip where we talked about following the money.

Unraveling the Enigma Ethan Chapin’s Story and the Dark Web of Deception in Moscow, Idaho In an unprecedented revelation on the YouTube platform, Kate Putnam, renowned medium and tarot reader, has emerged as the voice of Ethan Chapin, one of the four students mysteriously murdered in their Moscow, Idaho home.
The unfolding saga told through the lens of a 30-part “mini-series,” brings to light a chilling tale of deception, faith, and heartbreak that has captivated the online community. The Shocking Revelation On October 11, 2023, Kate Putnam dove into a tarot reading on “The Organization” in Moscow, Idaho.
To her astonishment, the cards foretold that the U.S. Government would play a pivotal role in the case. Three weeks later, the FBI announced a halt to the Brian Koberger trial, redirecting attention to the house at 1122 King Road where the four college students were betrayed by the trash people they loved the most.

Ace Attorney Episode #6: Turnabout Samurai---2nd Trial Transcript
This episode has the second part of Turnabout Samurai.
Phoenix [narrating]: Maya chose our first case: defending a children’s hero on a murder charge. Backed into a corner and desperate for more time, I accused the chatty old security guard, but she had only begun to talk, and in a rage, dropped a bombshell.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------
{Caption: Turnabout Samurai--2nd Trial}
Oldbag: There was something…that I was told to keep mum about.
Phoenix: What? Seriously?
Edgeworth: Is that so?
Oldbag: Yeah. No one tells me to shut up, so I won’t hide it anymore. I SAW MORE PEOPLE ON SET THAT DAY!
Phoenix: Ehauh!
Maya: Ahuah!
Edgeworth: ABSURD! Why was I not told about this?!
Judge: Explain this! Why would you conceal such crucial evidence from the court?
Oldbag: Ah, really, come on! Look, I just told you why I didn’t say anything. They told me that I was supposed to keep my big trap shut, and besides, them being on set had nothing to do with Jack's murder.
Phoenix: Who else was on set that day?
Oldbag: It was those big production muckety mucks: the director, and the producer too.
Phoenix: Is that right? And where were they?
Oldbag: Meeting in the Studio Two trailer.
Maya: That sounds important. We should look into this.
Phoenix: Your Honor, please. We’ve just discovered some extremely valuable information. Seems there may be more witnesses to interrogate. Without questioning them, a verdict cannot be reached.
Judge: Hm. Do you have any objection to that, Mr. Edgeworth?
Edgeworth: Grr…I don’t, Your Honor.
Oldbag: AUOAH! My goodness, I haven’t been looked at so passionately in years!
Judge: Very well. I hereby declare this court is adjourned for the day.

{Caption #1: May 12, a certain time}
{Caption #2: Detention Center}
Maya: What?! You knew about the other people there?! Why didn’t you say something?!
Powers: Well, I should’ve…but I was told to keep quiet too.
Maya: Yeah, but if you don’t tell us these kinds of things, we’re gonna lose the case! Nick’s a rookie. He’s so new; he’s barely even an attorney.
Phoenix: That’s going too far.
Powers: I’ll do better.
Phoenix: Anyway, we’ll have to go over to the studios again.
Maya: Oh! I hope that little boy comes back.
{Text on book: Steel Samurai Path to Glory}
Maya: He dropped his book last time.
Powers: Wait, you talkin’ about the kid with the camera?
Phoenix: You mean you know him?
Powers: Yeah. He’s been sneaking onto the lot a bunch lately.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Powers [flashback]: Snore…
(Powers: So I’ve seen him around)
Powers [flashback]: Snore…HUAH! DUAH! Is that a ghost?!
Cody [flashback]: Aw, gimme a break.
Powers [flashback]: Awuah!
Cody [flashback]: How can a grownup be such a scaredy cat? Huah huah huah…
Powers [flashback]: Uhnah, hey!
Cody [flashback]: The Steel Samurai could teach you to be brave! And a lot more than that. He’s awesome!
------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Phoenix: Huah…he could teach you, huh?
Maya: Why didn’t you just tell him that you were the Steel Samurai?
Powers: Like I said, I don’t want the kids to stop believing in their hero, you know? It’s okay, I don’t mind. As long as the kids are happy, so am I.
Phoenix’s thoughts: Yeah, there’s no way this guy would put the Steel Samurai’s reputation in jeopardy.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------
{Text on sign: Global Studios}
Phoenix’s thoughts: And that means the murder was definitely committed by someone else. But who could it be?
{Caption #1: May 12}
{Caption #2: Global Studios--Studio One}
Maya: The place looks empty to me.
Phoenix: The guard said the director was in here.
Maya: Ewuah?
(Sal: Heh, neheh!)
Sal: Heah…
(Maya: Eum?)
Sal: …heuah, ehuah…score! There you are!
{Text on script: The Steel Samurai: Warrior of Neo Olde Tokyo}
Sal: Gotcha!
Maya: WAAAAAHHHH!
Phoenix: Hey! Just who in the heck are you?
Sal: Who am I?!
{Caption: Director | Sal Manella}
Sal: You don’t recognize the great Sal Manella? I’m, like, the man! SUPERSTAR DIRECTOR OF THE STEEL SAMURAI!
Maya: WOAAAAH! You’re the director?!
Sal: Uwahuah! Ohwoahoah…
Female voice: Hehehe!
(Sal: Hoohoo, oohhoo!)
Sal: Nice!
Female voice: Come on!
(Sal: Hehehehehe!)
Female voice: Samurai!
(Sal: Really, really nice, hehe!)
Sal: Woohoohoohoohoohoohoohoo! It’s a buffer overflow! My creative juices are spilling all over!
Maya: Ehauah?
Sal: You! Just incepted the sequel to Steel Samurai! Pink Princess, Warrior of Little Olde Tokyo!
(Female voice: Hehehe!)
Phoenix: What? “Pink Princess”?
Maya: Hey! Why wouldn’t she be in Grand Olde Tokyo too?!
Phoenix: Why does that matter?
------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Sal: I see; so you’re gonna defend the Powers. Good luck with that.
Phoenix: Yeah…let me get this straight: as the director, you have to deliver the script to the producer?
Sal: She’s brutal! All during rehearsal, she’s constantly barking out orders and demanding script revisions for practically every line in the freaking show! My pain…is the only thing that makes her happy!
Phoenix’s thoughts: She sounds very hands-on…not to mention extremely demanding. We need to talk.
Phoenix: You were in a meeting with her at the time of the murder?
Sal: Mmhm. I oversaw the action scene rehearsal that morning, then the meeting until four.
Phoenix: You were at the rehearsal too?
------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Powers [flashback]: Auh! DUAH!
Spear: CRACK!
Phoenix’s thoughts: That means he was there to see Powers get hurt. He knew about the injury.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Phoenix: Uahn? Woah, what is that gigantic thing?
Sal: Man, you don’t know anything about entertainment. That’s the Forest Imp, our studio mascot.
Phoenix: I wasn’t asking who the character was.
Maya: What’s its head doing in the road?
Sal: Eh, thing’s super old. All that wind the day the Hammer was killed blew it off.
{Caption #1: May 12}
{Caption #2: Global Studios--Studio Two}
Phoenix: So this is a secondary studio?
Maya: It seems a little out of the way.
{Text on building: No 2}
Sal: Yeah, it’s been mothballed for, like, five years.
Phoenix: Why is that?
Sal: Apparently, there was some kind of bad accident. The old security lady should know all about it. She was around back then.
Maya: Euah?
Sal: Ehuahuahuahuah, heuahuahuah, heuaheuaheuah…
Phoenix: Can you tell me anything more about your producer?
(Sal: Heauh…)
Sal: Her name’s Dee Vasquez. Like I said, she’s brutal…but she single handedly brought the studio back from out of the toilet. SO NO ONE EVER GOES AGAINST HER!
------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Sal: AAHAHUAH, AAHUAH, HEAHEAHEAH!
{Caption: Producer | Dee Vasquez}
Sal: HEHEHAHAHA, hahuah, huah…
Phoenix, Maya: Uhah?
(Sal: Huah…)
Maya: Euoh…
Sal: Huah…
Phoenix: Uh…please excuse me, Miss Vasquez. My firm is defending Will Powers…and I was wondering if you could talk to us a bit about the day of the murder?
(Sal: Huah huah huah huah huah huah huah huah huah huah huah huah…)
Vasquez: Stop flapping your gums.
(Sal: Huah huah huah…)
Phoenix: Ehuah?
Vasquez: Can you not see that I’m trying to read here?
(Sal: Huah huahuahuah!)
Sal: Quiet! Or you’ll get punished too!
Phoenix’s thoughts: Definitely don’t want that.
(Maya: Auh!)
Maya: Hey, look! Check out all those movie posters!
{Text on poster #1: Lie of the Wry Samurai}
{Text on poster #2: Dynamite Samurai}
Phoenix: Yeah, and every single one of those films stars Jack Hammer.
Maya: Awuah! I love The Dynamite Samurai!
{Text on poster #3: The Lute Samurai}
Phoenix: Lie of the Wry Samurai makes me wanna cry.
{Text on poster #4: Samurai Summer}
{Text on poster #5: The Bearded Commander}
Maya: I watched all of The Bearded Commander series!
Phoenix: Samurai Summer?
Maya: That was a good one too. A summer romance done as a samurai period drama. Beautiful!
Phoenix: Wow. Seems Jack Hammer was a bigger star than I thought.
Vasquez: So you’re his attorney? And you wanted to know about the day he killed Jack.
Phoenix: Uh, yeah.
Vasquez: I’m sure you probably won’t like hearing this, but at the time all that went down, nobody here could’ve made it over to Studio One.
Phoenix: And why is that? What happened?
Vasquez: The roadway was completely blocked.
Phoenix: Eguah!
Vasquez: On your way over here. You saw it. The Forest Imp.
Phoenix: Yes, we did.
Maya: The poor old thing’s head fell right off.
Vasquez: The winds were strong enough to blow that rusty monkey’s head into the road, along with several large branches. After a while, a crane was called in to move it, but that wasn’t until after three o’clock in the afternoon. It took them about an hour to clean up the mess. We were all stuck over here until the job was completed, so none of us could’ve killed Jack.
Phoenix: But if the head had fallen over after 2:30 that afternoon, you could’ve made it over to Studio One.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------
{Text on caution tape: Safety First}
Vasquez [narrating]: Each hour, the Forest Imp announces the time. “I daresay it’s 4 p.m.” and so on.
{Text on clock: 02:15}
Vasquez [narrating]: It’s also on the back of its head. The clock stopped working at 2:15.
Phoenix: It doesn’t add up. That’s before the time of death on the autopsy.
Maya: Which means that no one at Studio Two that day could’ve gone over and killed Hammer.
Phoenix: Ehuam…
------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Oldbag: Euwah?! YOU BACKSTABBING, SPIKY-HEADED LAWY---!
(Maya: WAAAAHHH!)
Phoenix: I’m sorry! But I only said that you could’ve done it. By the way, I’m surprised to see you here so soon.
(Oldbag: Grraaugghh…)
Oldbag: The cops took me back and made me try on the Steel Samurai suit and pose for them for quite a while! I think they enjoyed it, but it was humiliating! When they finally got it through their thick skulls that there was no way I could’ve been the one on the camera, they let me go! I won’t forget how you wronged me! If you ever come back here to talk to me about anything, you’re not going to get so much as a peep out of me!
Maya: We’ll get way more than a peep.
Oldbag: I warned you; now my silence starts in three, two, one!
Phoenix: Euh, oh, all I wanted to talk about was how awesome Jack Hammer was.
Oldbag: Mmuhm!
Maya: Mmhm, mmhm! That Dynamite Samurai poster…it’s just so dreamy!
Oldbag: Mm…mm! Hmm!
Phoenix: I’m more of a Bearded Commander guy.
Oldbag: Ooh, The Bearded Commander is my favorite! He was such a hunk in that one! If I could turn back the clock---yeah. To before the accident. Auah!
Phoenix: Wait, the one that happened five years ago?
Maya: You gotta tell us everything you know!
Oldbag: I’m sorry; I can’t do that.
Phoenix: Please, ma’am. What is the real connection between that and Studio Two shutting down?
Oldbag: No. I said I wasn’t talking to you anymore.
Maya: But you’ve been talking to us since you said that.
Oldbag: Well, I’m really starting in three, two, one!
Maya, Phoenix: Aah!
Oldbag: HEY!
Maya: It’s that kid! Eheaheaheah…
(Phoenix: Ehauh!)
Phoenix: Neah!
Oldbag: Wait right---uoah! Geaugh…
------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Phoenix: Hey, kid! Hold it!
Cody: My name’s Cody! Don’t call me “kid”! You ever disrespect me again and you’ll taste my steel, old man!
Phoenix: Euoh…old man?!
Maya: So anyway, you dropped this the other day. Here.
Cody: Eah!
Maya: It’s such an amazing collection!
{Text on book: Steel Samurai Path to Glory}
Maya: Are all of them your pictures?
Cody: Yeah! You can keep it if you want. I’ve got the originals.
Maya: For real?! Awesome! Thank you, heheheah!
Phoenix: You’re way into the Steel Samurai.
Cody: Duh! ‘Course I am. I go to all the live shows and appearances and stuff.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Steel Samurai [flashback]: HUAH! HUH! HEYAH!
------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Cody: And after he totally owns the bad guys, I always get a picture. Pretty sweet, don’t you think? I’ve got killer pics of every Steel Samurai victory.
Phoenix: That’s cool. You didn’t happen to get any the day of the incident, did you? You were here, right?
Cody: Eumph…
Maya: Eum? What’s wrong, Cody?
Cody: Yeah. I saw everything that day.
Maya: Huah!
Phoenix: Everything? Meaning what, exactly?
Cody: I mean the Steel Samurai. I saw him killing the bad guy, obviously!
Maya: Waahah!
Phoenix: Wait! AAHUAHEHN!
Phoenix [muffled due to the grate]: Cody!
Maya: Oh no! Let me help you!
(Phoenix: Euh! Eaugh!)
Phoenix: Would you stop pushing me, I don’t wanna drown in the freaking sewer!
(Maya: Nick, I can help you get out!
------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Phoenix: So we found out who else was there that day, but it seems like none of them could have done it. I’m running out of ideas. Huahungah!
Maya: Check out what I’ve got!
(Phoenix: Huh?)
{Text on DVD cases: The Steel Samurai: Warrior of Neo Olde Tokyo}
Maya: Let’s have a Steel Samurai marathon!
Phoenix: Yeah, sorry, but I’m busy.
Maya: Are you crazy?! This is all about the case! I think we might find a clue or two that’ll turn things around.
Phoenix: That’s not a bad idea.
{Text on TV 1a: The Steel Samurai}
{Text on TV 1b: Warrior of Neo Olde Tokyo}
------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Maya: Ehuah…please, Steel Samurai, save me…
Phoenix: I binged every last one. Anyway, I guess I need to talk to Cody again. Ehuan? Mm. Wait, hold on…
------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Cody [flashback]: After he totally owns the bad guys, I always get a picture. I’ve got killer pics of every Steel Samurai victory.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Cody [flashback]: Yeah. I saw everything that day. I mean the Steel Samurai. I saw him killing the bad guy, obviously!
------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Phoenix’s thoughts: If that’s true, something is definitely off here.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------
{Text on sign: Global Studios}
Maya: Steel! Wielding the steel of justice against evildoers!
Phoenix: Uh, you’ve disgraced me for the last, uh---AAH!
Maya: Come on! Put your heart into it! You gotta be the bad guy!
Phoenix: What’s the line? “Dance with some guy in the pale moon”…“the pale moon something”…
Cody: “The pale moon in the sky cries out for your blood”.
(Phoenix: Auh!)
Maya: Yeah, that’s it. See, Cody knows what’s up!
Cody: I thought that everybody knew the line.
Phoenix: Fine, I get it; I’m not cool. But I need you to tell me about something else. Yesterday, you said you saw the Steel Samurai kill the bad guy that day, didn’t you? Did you take a picture when that happened?
Cody: Uh…
Phoenix: You told me yourself you’ve gotten every single victory of his. So that means there should be a picture of that last one.
Cody: I deleted it.
Phoenix: Uhah!
Maya: Woah, seriously?
Phoenix: But you snuck in here just to take one.
Cody: Uh…well, I kinda…who cares? I can do what I want.
Phoenix’s thoughts: Yeah, something is off.
Maya: Hey, so what was it like? It must have been pretty cool to see him! In real life, I mean.
Cody: Oh! Yeah, it was! But it wasn’t the first time, you know!
Maya: So awesome! I would’ve freaked out!
Cody: I actually called his name to get his attention. I think I kinda surprised him or something. But he still turned around and struck a cool pose.
Maya: Wow! I am so jealous! Can you show me what kind of pose it was?
Cody: Yeah, he went like this and waved.
Phoenix: Uah!
Maya: Awaaauah! Wow!
{Caption: Hold it!}
Phoenix: HOLD IT! Hey, Cody, show me that again. And make sure it’s just like the way he did it.
Cody: Huh? He went like this.
Phoenix: I knew it! That’s not the Steel Samurai. The Evil Magistrate does that pose.
Maya: Huh? Yeah, you’re right!
Cody: Not gonna lie, but I thought it was pretty weird that he would do that one.
Phoenix: I see.
Maya: What? Did you just get an idea?
Phoenix’s thoughts: It’s out there, but I can’t think of any other possibility.
Phoenix: Cody.
Cody: Uah!
Phoenix: Even though you got a one-of-a-kind picture of the Steel Samurai, you deleted it.
Cody: Eumph!
Phoenix: And I know why. You told us that you saw him kill the bad guy that day. But actually, it was the other way around.
Cody: Eaumph!
Maya: What do you mean?
Phoenix: I mean that the bad guy was really the one who defeated the Steel Samurai.
Cody: Aahuoah!
Phoenix: The Steel Samurai lost. That’s why you wanted to delete the picture.
Cody: Heaugheaheah…eauagh…heuamph…geahgeah…
Maya: But…the Steel Samurai doesn’t lose.
Phoenix: That’s not my point.
Maya: Huah?
Phoenix: The one who was wearing the costume when Cody saw him was not Will Powers; it was actually Jack Hammer.
Maya: WAAAAAAHHHHH!
Phoenix: Hammer went to Powers’ room while he was sleeping and stole the Steel Samurai outfit. He put it on and walked to Studio One. Obviously, he was there when Powers sprained his ankle, so he knew he had to hobble past the gate. When Cody called out to him, it completely caught him off guard. He did do a pose for the camera, but it was the Evil Magistrate’s, out of habit. After that, the unthinkable happened. The bad guy won. He killed the Steel Samurai, which was actually Jack Hammer.
Maya: Wahuah!
Phoenix: You saw it happen, didn’t you, Cody? You saw your favorite hero lose. That’s why you erased it and lied to us. Am I right?
Cody: Mm! No, it can’t be true. Mmhueah! The Steel Samurai never loses! Mm! Never! AND I’LL NEVER BELIEVE IT’S TRUE!
Phoenix: Cody.
Cody: Ehuah! Yeah?
Phoenix: Why do you think the Steel Samurai never loses?
Cody: Because…he’s stronger than everyone.
Phoenix: That’s not it.
Cody: Aahuoh!
Phoenix: You know what he always says. What is it?
Cody: Eeh, geaugh! “Wielding the steel of justice against evildoers”.
Phoenix: Yes, the steel of justice. It’s not strength alone.
Cody: Huahoh!
Phoenix: He risks his life to fight for what’s right. That’s the reason why you look up to him. So as a fan, you can’t turn your back on injustice either.
Cody: Mm! Euh, euhgeahgeah…WEHEHEHEHEHEH! Weheauh!
------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Cody: You’re right. What really happened after I saw him was, geah, well…I followed him, but he didn’t see me, and then some bad guys showed up. Mm! The Steel Samurai went down…
Cody [flashback]: Geauaheah!
Cody: …and then he stopped moving.
(Cody [flashback]: Geauh!)
------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Phoenix: Thanks for telling the truth.
Maya: So…did you really delete all the pictures you took?
Cody: Not all of ‘em.
Maya: Huah?
(Phoenix: Eoh?)
Cody: There’s one more left on the camera. Let me look for it.
Maya: Really?
Cody: Yeah. Here.
{Text on building in photo: 2}
Phoenix: Ahuah! He’s going there?
Oldbag: For justice. Huh.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Vasquez: What do you want? I’m rather busy.
Phoenix: This picture was taken the afternoon of the murder. Hammer showed up here, didn’t he? Wearing the Steel Samurai costume. Yes, Hammer was killed at Studio Two. There goes your alibi. Because you were at the exact spot where he was last seen, and you couldn’t leave.
Vasquez: Are you saying Jack Hammer walked all the way here just so he could die?
Phoenix: No, ma’am. Euh? Ahuah! Euahah! What is this? Tell me!
Vasquez: Keep spewing this kind of nonsense, Mr. Wright…and you might end up missing court tomorrow.
Maya: Nick, I’m getting scared.
Gumshoe: Wait just a second, gal!
Maya: Euahn?
(Phoenix: Hm?)
Maya, Phoenix: Detective Gumfoot?
Gumshoe: Miss Dee Vasquez. I’m here to deliver your summons for Powers’ trial tomorrow. But what exactly is going on here?
Vasquez: Well, I think you should be asking the boy lawyer here that question.
Phoenix: Boy? What?
Vasquez: Listen. No matter where Hammer was killed, it’s impossible for me to have done it.
Maya: Why? What do you mean by that?
Vasquez: He was run through with the Samurai Spear, was he not? There’s no way a petite woman such as myself could wield it. I could barely even lift it without a struggle.
Phoenix: Ahuah!
Gumshoe: That is true. The weapon used in the crime was pretty dang heavy. I don’t see it happening.
Vasquez: Jack Hammer was a big star who made my studio a lot of money. Why on earth would I ever want him dead?
Phoenix: Yeah. Good question.
Vasquez: Hm. You should know if you accuse someone of murder, you should bring proof.
Phoenix: Euamph!
------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Oldbag: You can’t turn your back on it. Huh. I’m sorry, Jack.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------
{Text on building: No 2}
Vasquez: If you don’t have that, then you can leave.
Phoenix: Okay. But in the courtroom tomorrow, I’ll be ready.
Vasquez: Hm.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------
{Text on screen: Ace Attorney}
Phoenix: OBJECTION!
Phoenix [narrating]: The true culprit smiles, smug with the idea that she’s too smart for justice. But no one is above the law, and I vow to wipe that smile off her face. But how? Why did Hammer have to die, and what really killed him? Was his death planned out long in advance? I will wield this steel of justice against evildoers! That’s my job as an attorney. Find the contradictions, believe in the truth!

I was replaying turnabout succession and there was something that interested me.
Apparently, Phoenix had decided a case where the jury was’being tested’ but it was not Vera Misham’s trial. It was later then changed to that after Drew’s murder.
Tumblr media
This makes me wonder. What would have happened if Drew didn’t die that night? What case was it before the change? And how would the case be like if it wasn’t Misham’s trial?
[SPOILERS] I mean, Kristoph was convicted of Drew’s murder because he was the murderer and the Jury was a thing in that case in order to convict Kristoph of his crimes. But what if the case wasn’t about the Mishams? DId Kristoph commit another crime behind the scenes? Or was Phoenix planning to convict Kristoph of a crime he did not commit? (His plan was to make Kristoph pay for all his crimes after all)

Howdy! Can I please requests headcanons for Edgeworth, Phoenix, and Franziska from ace attorney with a little sibling who keeps committing crimes(nothing serious enough to get serious prison time, but still enough to land in court) to get attention because they feel neglected by their older brother/sister?
FANDOM: Ace Attorney
Character(s): Miles Edgeworth, Franziska Von Karma, Phoenix Wright
Type of Request: Headcanons
Word Count: 561
Note(s): Okay but the heartbreak that they would feel tho. You asked for this anon...
Tumblr media
Edgeworth
You’re lucky that he is a prosecutor so he’s the one defending you against whatever lawyer is going up against him.
He’ll absolutely want to exchange some choice words with you later but decides against it because he doesn’t need you acting out while he’s trying to get you off scotch free, or at the very least, a lighter sentence.
So when he overhears you telling someone that the reason behind your actions is because you feel neglected by him, it hurts. It really hurts him.
Miles isn’t trying to make you feel neglected, he just needs to be the best prosecutor so he can support you both. So he can give you a life worth living. He knows what can happen with being alone and doesn’t want you to go through that.
He won’t tell you that he heard what you said, but he will state that he cares for you. You’re his sibling and you will always be his sibling. He is just trying to do good for the both of you.
Franziska
Selfish. She will absolutely call you selfish and careless with the amount of trouble you keep getting into.
I don’t see Franziska trying to help you out. She did in the beginning but as time is going on, she’s getting colder and letting you deal with the consequences of your actions.
She was raised to be perfect. She was raised so that if she makes one small mistake then she’s a failure. She’s doing this so you don’t have to live up to that standard, so you don’t have to go through that stress.
You feel neglected by her? Well she’s sorry that you feel that way but she is trying to give you a better life where you can have a childhood and happiness that she didn’t get because she has to be perfect.
Honestly, depending on if you continue your “games” or not is if the relationship will get better or just be completely destroyed. Because Franziska is getting tired with all of this.
Phoenix
He is immediately hit with heartbreak. He’s a lawyer so of course he’ll ask you to let him help you. To tell him the truth so he can help because he cares about you so much, you’re his sibling.
If you don’t even want him defending you then it’ll really hurt and he’ll agree to your terms but still want to sit in on the trial.
Definitely feels so guilty at finding out you’re doing this because you feel neglected. Phoenix knows he’s busy at the office, he knows that the cases and trials take up so much of his time, but he didn’t mean to make you feel so lonely that you have to do this.
Phoenix will try to make it up to you. He’ll try to take more days off or see if Maya can run things while he’s gone (as much as the thought scares him a bit).
He’ll definitely apologize to you and try to explain his absence because he is a lawyer and there’s a lot of innocent people that get accused. Maya has been accused of murder so many times now it isn’t funny! He is just trying to help people and he wants you to understand that he cares about you so much even if he isn’t around as often as you’d like.

Dear Ms. Blackquill,
Tumblr media
That was actually Athena’s trial. As for the panic, I kinda figured you’re not the murdering type. You were acting out of desperation and had no one to turn to for help. I’d be lying if I said I have never been in similar shoes.
Tumblr media
Strangely, I see your brother’s unfair sentence as a worst-case scenario of what could’ve happened to me when I was Disbarred. Like him, I also admitted Guilt for a crime I didn’t commit to protect a little girl, who would’ve been the prime suspect had I said something.
Tumblr media
I’m sure, had my crime resulted in the same fate as Prosecutor Blackquill’s, I likely would’ve been no different from him and Edgeworth would’ve done the same thing you’re doing. He’s not my sibling, but we do have a sibling-like relationship from growing up together as kids. Not to say what you did was right, but I suppose you can say we sympathize with you.
Tumblr media
I’m sure Athena and Prosecutor Blackquill will look after each other, but I’ll be sure to let her know.
- Phoenix Wright

BIIIG Ace Attorney T&T spoilers below the cut! I just NEED TO TALK ABOUT THIS GAME!!!
I love trials and tribulations. I adore bridge to a turnabout. The way it ties everything together from the trilogy is amazing. It’s emotional (I cried over a map of a brige). There is only one thing I’d change, and that’s Iris’s relationship to Phoenix.
Part of the tragedy of Phoenix and Dahlia’s relationship was Dahlia’s betrayal. She is totally capable of a lie to that level. She’s done it before in court, hiding behind her sweet demeanor to achieve her own ends. The idea that Phoenix was madly in love with a woman who despised him, fed sweet lies for almost a year, is an inherently tragic one.
Phoenix listening to the woman he believed to love him frame him for a murder he didn’t commit, desperately clinging onto the hope that “no! It’s ok! She loves me!” is made a lot less strong knowing that Dahlia wasn’t actually the one who knew him for those eight months. Phoenix was right, “Dahlia” did love him.
Dahlia’s betrayal hurts so much more when it’s an actual betrayal. She’s known this man for eight months. She despises him, and he is unaware. Now, she shows her true colours. The last eight months were a lie, a thinly veiled lie to take back the evidence of her crimes. This is a realisation that Phoenix must come to preceding the trial, and telling him that there was no betrayal, there were no lies, she was the woman you knew, lessens that realisation, even if it happens years later.
Phoenix was hurt deeply by Dahlia’s betrayal. He grew up (kind of), and returning to the relationship because it worked when he was 20 doesn’t mean it will work now.
Iris and Phoenix have a pretty cute relationship, but I do not like the big reveal at the end of the trial. Might do a rise from the ashes and treat the reveal of their past together as non-canon because I don’t like the impact it has on the characters even if it’s incredibly important later on in the series. I’m cool like that.

I'm not the original anonymous but I would extremely want to see that essay about Apollo's trust issues.
Also since I just finished Spirit of Justice, do you think Lamiroir ever told Trucy/Apollo about her and if so what would be their reactions?
Let’s see if I can write this up without crying again like I did on twitter.
So a while ago a friend of mine asked me why I liked Apollo, and I really couldn’t put my finger on it. I knew he was my favorite, but unlike Simon Blackquill, I hadn’t done that deep dive into figuring out why. I’d always just sort of loved him, and was never able to pinpoint the part that made me care about him so much. It drove me crazy, too, I love rambling about characters that I love, and I love writing from Apollo’s perspective more than anything. So why did I love him? Why did I care about him?
Well. I figured it out. I figured out my answer.
I think there are two things that characterize Apollo more than anything. One: He has trust issues. He genuinely believes that the people around him don’t give a shit about him. Especially after being betrayed multiple times in that first trial, he truly and deeply believes that the people around him are only trying to hurt him and is too scared to really believe that they care about him.
And two: He cares so much about the people around him that he constantly helps them anyway.
So like. And I won’t tag her because I don’t think she’d appreciate it, but I was watching the laquilasse AA4 stream last night, and the entire opening of Turnabout Corner is so striking to me, especially right after the end of Turnabout Trump. At the end of Turnabout Trump, Apollo’s trust and belief in Phoenix is finally and thoroughly shattered, and Apollo lashes out, punching Phoenix in the face. And for good reason! That was a huge breach of trust! Apollo literally did the exact thing that got Phoenix disbarred, namely present evidence that wasn’t real. Sure, they never exactly claimed it was the real deal, but Apollo didn’t even know it was faked, he just trusted Phoenix and this new piece of evidence and it almost fucked him over. It did sort of fuck him over, he did lose his job and his Mentor.
And then, Phoenix calls him and says that they’re in trouble, and Apollo doesn’t even question it, of course he shows up to help.
Like. You can feel how much he mistrusts Trucy on their first meeting, in everything he does and says. Especially when Trucy and Phoenix are in the same room, he’s actively thinking about how he doesn’t ‘buy their act’ when Phoenix is calling Trucy daughter-ly nicknames. And then, in a way, he’s kind of right? They guilt him into essentially being their errand boy, and I feel like they’re constantly and loudly using him throughout so much of the game.
And Apollo was there anyway. Apollo doesn’t even trust them and he’s still there the first instant Phoenix says he needs his help.
Like you can loudly do and say whatever you want and crush his dreams and betray his trust, and despite everything, there’s always that part of Apollo that desperately needs to help anyone who asks him. He can’t even bring himself to trust them, and he’s still crawling back the moment someone needs him, ready to let them disappoint him over again.
Like this struck me about Apollo from the moment I played AA4, but he’s so lonely? And desperate for connection? He cares so much about a world that has always and consistently never cared about him, and he just keeps caring and keeps caring even as that starry-eyed naivete is ripped away. And I feel like he just wants someone to care about him back, but never really able to believe that they do, because they never really seem to, because every time he allows himself to trust it’s just thrown back in his face so horribly.
Here’s an interesting thing I noticed: in Turnabout Trump, there’s a really interesting line. Phoenix has accused Kristoph of being the murderer, the extra person in the room. Kristoph takes the stand and claims to have witnessed the moment Phoenix committed the murder. And this exchange happens:
Apollo: There must have been someone else there at the moment of the crime!
Kristoph: Justice... I just said I saw no one. Not a soul.
Apollo: B-But, that goes against what Mr. Wright said!
Kristoph: Ah yes, this mysterious "fourth person"... ...who would conveniently be the "real killer", I suppose.
And this is well past the point where Phoenix has accused Kristoph of being that person. There’s no possibility at this point that they’re both innocent, it’s either one or the other. And Apollo is still so desperately trying to find a way for them both to be innocent, basically saying, “Just give me a fourth person and I’ll believe you.” And then Kristoph turned out to be a monster, and then Phoenix turned out to have betrayed Apollo from the start, and as far as Apollo is ever aware, none of the care from either of these men was ever real. He trusted, and he suffered the consequences.
But again. He’s still there. Someone pointed out a while ago, but Apollo stays. Apollo shows up to the Wright Talent Agency under false pretenses, and he complains and hems and haws, and he still stays. Why?
Phoenix and Trucy loudly manipulate him into working their case. They’re perfectly happy to flaunt that they’re basically tricking him. And he stays. Why?
Because Apollo can’t trust them, but he wants to so fucking bad. He doesn’t even seem to like Phoenix that much, but he wants that connection so fucking bad. He cares about them so much and he doesn’t believe for a second that they extend that feeling back at him, and he’s compelled to stay anyway.
He knows Trucy is practically using him, and he’s a sobbing mess when he thinks she was kidnapped for a few minutes. He’s cynical and mean and it’s all just to cover up the fact that he loves all these people around him with all his heart and they never once pay it back. And he comes back anyway. He’s like a fucking loyal dog that is never given enough affection and so he’s constantly trying harder and harder to earn that love while never believing he’ll ever really get it.
(Shit nope crying again)
It’s just so sad. And this is all without adding anything from the 3D games. The 3D games do build on this theme in one way or another, but from the get go, this is who Apollo is. A caring young man who is constantly punished for caring and yet can’t stop caring anyway.
We see it again in the 3D games. And I think part of why I don’t enjoy DD as much as SoJ is that DD doesn’t capture this mistrust the same way. It’s so surface level, that sense of betrayal and mistrust and anger he gets consumed by in that final case. And the worst part is it doesn’t have to be! There’s already that foundation! Apollo has been hurt already a million times. The only person he’s ever been able to trust, the only lifeline that’s kept him above water since he was a child, was Clay Terran, and now that was taken from him because he DARED to trust someone new. That’s so fucking compelling! But we never get that! We never get to see how Apollo is feeling. We get that he’s convinced Athena did the murder, but never really get into the Why, into the What This Means for Apollo.
It’s a bit better in SoJ. We see how far he’s come in terms of trusting people when he trusts in Trucy wholly and immediately in case two. And then, conversely, we see his mistrust and hurt when they introduce Dhurke into the mix. Apollo refuses point blank to believe that Dhurke had come to visit him, that Dhurke cared about him. Apollo demands to know why Dhurke was there, what Dhurke wanted, how Dhurke was going to use him. He’s been able to slowly start building that trust with people like Trucy, but he still cannot let himself trust again when Dhurke had already betrayed that trust.
I said it before, but as much as I hate the slapdash ways in which Capcom keeps throwing backstory at this boy, I love what the backstories are, because they build on this angry, cynical, lonely young man I care about so much. He’s been hurt and abandoned and used and betrayed since he was young, and being good never truly paid off for so long, but he kept doing it, he kept being good, he kept caring about people because he couldn’t help it, and kept hoping that maybe they could care back. And eventually I think it does start paying off for him. People do start caring about him. And I feel like it takes until around SoJ for him to start really believing that the people around him might care about him too.
Also congrats on finishing SoJ! Since there’s a very good chance that they might be announcing AA7 soon, I...hope? fear? expect? that they’ll touch on this then. However, I also worry that they’re going to botch it up so hard.
I know what I want to happen. I want Trucy to be angry. I want her to be angry at Lamiroir and Phoenix. She is constantly putting on a mask to try to make the people she loves happy, and I feel like this is a reasonable breaking point. After all, this is kind of the one thing that Phoenix hasn’t been honest with her about. She had a brother right there, and knew the whole time?! She had a mother there the whole time?! And no one bothered to tell her?! I think she’d be heartbroken, and I think she deserves to be angry. She’s been through so much, and they never give her time to really grieve or be upset.
I think Apollo would be ecstatic and angry at the same time. All he’s ever wanted was family, and now he does! He already loved Trucy, and thought Lamiroir was amazing, so I think he would be so happy to have that family back in his life. On the flip side, I do think he’d be angry at Phoenix, particularly for keeping it to himself before Lamiroir came into the picture, but I think if they talked it out, Apollo would come around to it and be able to forgive Phoenix.

Here's my editorial on Dahlia! It's on ao3 but i also included it under the cut
Dahlia Hawthorne: Not Your Girlboss
Ace Attorney, a game series by Capcom, has some of the best written characters reacting to trauma I have ever seen: Miles Edgeworth, who turned himself in for a murder he didn’t commit because he was wracked with guilt for the death of his father; the entire Fey clan, stained with generational trauma which leads to many, many, deaths; and then there’s Dahlia Hawthorne, a traumatized girl who is using the only tools she was given for her own survival.
Dahlia Hawthorne is Phoenix Wright’s college ex-girlfriend. (Phoenix being the main character.) She, as well as many other female characters are immensely interesting and yet for the most part, the fans focus on the male character’s trauma. The only characterization Dahlia is allowed by fans is the stock “evil ex''; or more insidiously, they turn her into a “girlboss.” The Urban Dictionary defines girlboss: “to make something or someone appear as a feminist idol or inspiration for profit, despite the numerous flaws of the person.”
I argue that she is not a girlboss; rather, Dahlia led an immensely tragic life. From the time she was 14, she was already being used by members of her own family, under the pretense that she was in control. One of her most iconic quotes is: “From the day I was born to the day I died, I never helped anyone! I lived for myself and, in the end, I died for myself. I thought that was obvious.” Many fans take this as an admission of guilt; they argue she led a selfish, manipulative, cruel life. She killed people to save her own skin and only left scars on the people she affected (the ones who are still alive, anyway.)
This quote is taken from her breakdown in the final trial. Dahlia is dead—hanged in prison, after she murdered two people and hospitalized another. In this universe, certain characters can channel the spirits of the dead. Dahlia possesses her cousin Maya, pretending to be Iris, her twin sister (the spirit channeler takes on some physical characteristics of the person they are channeling and Dahlia and Iris were identical—except for hair color.) Dahlia killed her aunt, Misty, but even her last action wasn’t for herself. It was because her mother was using her in an act of revenge.
And still, the only joke fans make about her are calling her a #Girlboss and manipulator. I have even seen her called the “communal evil ex,” but it doesn't hurt to think about how she’d be treated if she were a man, or if she wasn’t perceived as a threat to the main relationship of the game.

Ace Attorney x Kirby AU because I am obsessed and nobody can stop me
Phoenix is the defence and Edgeworth is the prosecution because yes
Dedede is the defendant. I dunno if he’d be accused of murder or something more minor like stealing. Either way he’s innocent tho
Kirby replaces Maya as Phoenix's assistant. His special ability is eating the evidence. Is that helpful? Not in the least.
Meta Knight works with Edgeworth as his assistant. Being a witness would probably make more sense but I’m biased and want those two to work together so… Ye. The Kirby universe is a lot less realistic than the AA universe, so maybe Meta Knight's there to help Edgeworth with the more magical aspects of the case and explain shit. He’s pretty neutral on the whole situation, cuz he doesn’t believe that Dedede would commit a crime like this but the evidence is pretty damning.
Bandee’s the main witness and he hates it. He REALLY doesn’t wanna testify against Dedede, but he doesn’t have much of a choice. He probably tries to help Phoenix and Kirby in any way possible during investigations to get Dedede declared innocent.
Magolor’s probably one of those troublesome witnesses that bring Edgeworth pain lmao
More under the cut
The crime would take place in Dedede's castle probably. Wherever it is it’s pretty dark out when the crime happens, so stuff like colour isn’t very visible. Still, Dedede's silhouette is pretty recognizable, and it’d be hard to mistake him for someone else.
There’s probably a photo of the crime, maybe from a security camera or something. That could be why Magolor gets called in as a witness actually. He had recently set up all those cameras around the castle, so he was asked to talk about them.
It’s probably initially thought that Dedede was possessed when he committed the crime, since he has a history of that happening. Maybe Maya's called in as an expert on ghosts. Spirit channelling isn’t the same thing as what Zero, Dark Matter, etc. does, but it’s the closest thing the Ace Attorney characters would be able to compare it to. Still, judging by past cases, Dedede would still be declared guilty even if he had been possessed.
Maybe sometime during one of the trials, Kirby decides to snack on a seemingly innocent piece of evidence and becomes Poison Kirby, revealing that poison was used in some way during the crime?
During… I guess the second trial, when all hope seems lost, Kirby copies Phoenix’s lawyer abilities and realizes that the Meta Knight at the Prosecutor’s bench is, in fact, Dark Meta Knight! Apparently, Dark Meta Knight had disguised himself as Meta Knight and switched places with him during a recess (or even before the trial started). The real Meta Knight was probably locked inside a closet or something
This opens up the possibility that someone from the Mirror World committed the crime. The Ace Attorney characters didn’t even know the Mirror World existed until this point, and the Kirby crew never considered the idea since they thought the portal was closed.
Shadow Dedede ends up being questioned and brought to court, and he is found out to be the real culprit of the case.
