The thing is.. Iris knows Dahlia won't change. She knows her sister is past the point of saving. Iris saw the corruption, firsthand, only because Dahlia is her sister. As identical twins, Iris was there from the day Dahlia was born to the day that she died. She witnessed the progressive distortion of her sister. But they share a face and once shared a name. Iris believes that she, herself, is proof that Dahlia could have grown and matured as she had. And this is why even now when her sister has once again attempted to take a life, she can't bring herself to feel contempt. She will always love Dahlia even if she wanted to hate her because she will always blame herself, first.

I realize people mostly use “Godot” in general reference to post-coma Diego, but at the end of 3-5 he specifically asks that people call him “Diego” again.
“Godot” is the alter ego, a way to distance himself from the mistakes, the failure, and the tragic demise of the defense attorney he used to be. He is not emotionally capable of coping with the, seriously, nightmarishly awful circumstances he awakens into. So the only solution he can find is to become a new person altogether. It’s unhealthy, delusional, and transparently not working at all. By the end of 3-5, though, he admits that his new mantle was just part of his fantasy, a way for him to keep running away from the truth he couldn’t accept.
In the game, as soon as he makes the request, both his text boxes and all other characters immediately start referring to him as “Armando” or “Mr. Armando” again. I keep seeing fanworks where everybody, including Diego himself, keep calling him “Godot” even after the events of 3-5. But there’s a very significant and explicit point in the text where this name no longer applies to him, by his own request. Having characters ignore it is A. rude and B. kind of...  you know... missing a massively important detail for his character.
Incidentally, Mia does not ever and would not ever call him “Godot.” Whether out of frustration or (I think, much more likely) empathy, under no circumstances would she ever humor his self-destructive dramatics. Going back to that other post I did, Mia is the pin in the bubble that would disrupt his whole stupid act.
Like really.
Godot: “I am the legendary prosecutor Godot, and I-”
Mia:

This is, incidentally, an extremely funny Miego dynamic that should definitely be used more.

everybody likes talking about how Godot can't see red on white and they bring up the funny Redd White pun but they never talk about how he can't see Phoenix's tie (it's red on white)

AU idea: when a Fey woman dies of unnatural causes, she can return to life by sacrificing her spiritual power. She wakes up healthy and whole, but normal.
Possibilities include:
Mia or Misty thought they were okay with turning away from their spirit medium heritage, until they wake up unmurdered and realize that they actually can't go back now. (They could even discuss the matter after they both survive!)
Maya could survive the 2-4 Bad Ending, or survive 3-5 in a painfully ironic way
Dahlia and Iris don't have spiritual power because they used it to survive a childhood illness or something
Morgan is sentenced to execution but it just ... doesn't stick. Law enforcement is baffled. She claims she can do it again (she cannot, she's just trolling as many men as possible before she dies)

headcanon (sorta): when dahlia says 'it's an honor to be in your presence' in the first case, she was talking to mia specifically. half as a taunt, half in a 'oh you really are dedicated' sorta way

I lost him, Eddie. No, You saved him. That's how he remembers it. And now, it's his turn to do the same for you.

I am not crazy! I know he swapped those streams. I knew it was half life vr ai. The rise of the science team. As if I could ever make such a mistake. Never. Never! I just – I just couldn’t prove it. He covered his tracks, he got that idiot at the rtvs Team to lie for him. You think this is something? You think this is bad? This? This bait and switch? He’s done worse. That Breaking Bad Vr But The AI is self aware! Are you telling me that a man just happens to be walter white? No! He orchestrated it! Wayne! He tricked the science teamers! And I watched him! And I shouldn’t have. I took him into my own browser! What was I thinking? He’ll never be gordon again. He’ll never free man! Ever since he was 27, always the same! Couldn’t keep his hands out of the gmod! But not our Wayne! Couldn’t be precious Wayne! tricking us blind! And HE gets to be a streamer? What a sick joke! I should’ve stopped him when I had the chance! …And you, you have to stop him!

*thinks about phoenix & iris' savior complex and undying loyalty towards the most important people in their lives, how this directly affects their relationship to one another, how their shared values conflict but also compliment each other, why they were able to become so close to one another in the first place outside their differing motivations, how their relationship was the right place at the wrong time, why capcom needs to at least acknowledge iris because of her narrative importance to phoenix's character arc*

AA3 spoilers: I've always assumed Godot died at the prosecutors bench, due to him being a barely functioning heavily medicated poison victim with a stab wound that went without heat, medication, or food for as long as Maya did. But I'm very intrigued at the thought of what a man who has truly lost all purpose like him would do if he survived. Do you have any thoughts on his future? Will he pick a third even dumber name?
Sup friend. I'm actually a "Diego lives" truther 'til the day I die. Because what's the point of a redemption arc/realization like his if he immediately dies anyway? (Though I wouldn't be surprised if he passed out in the lobby and ended up in the hospital, he HAS been pushing himself a lot the past few days.)
The thing is, I really don't think Diego has lost all purpose. I think HE thinks that, but it's much more compelling that he now has to snap himself out of that mindset-- the same delusion that made him pick up "Godot" in the first place. He's got a crime to atone for now, yes, but he's also got a Maya who has FIRMLY forgiven him and welcomed him into her circle. A Phoenix who's also come to understand him and wants to know the man behind the mask. He can't get Mia back, but you also can't tell me that she would want him to keep suffering for her. She'd want him to work on accepting himself, dealing with his grief, getting the therapy he so desperately needs, and enjoying what's left of the life he does have, even if it's not the one either of them wanted.
(As it turns out I wrote this fic exactly...)
Personally, I think (and thus in all of my fanworks and suppositions on the topic) Diego gets out of the system pretty quickly. I'm a huge proponent of any and all "Weird Uncle Diego" scenarios, where he's welcomed by and like family to the Feys. I like him eventually embracing his other great love and opening a coffee shop, becoming a weird local cryptid in the legal scene. I want him to find peace and I also want him to take up a future that @tanaleth and I gushed about and have named "the ghostwife meta" in which he and Mia have an unconventional, but still very devoted relationship for the rest of his life.
