Courtship
The many ways Conquest courts you, feat. Viltrumite headcanons. No warnings except mentions of violence and a dead moose.
Upon coming to the startling realisation that he saw you as mate material and wanted you that way, Conquest had been mentally reviewing all previous interactions, seeing them in a new light.
And now that he officially lived with you, he needed to take things up a notch and properly court you. How else was he supposed to get you to agree to be his mate?
… which was easier said than done. See, Viltrumite courtship rituals– back when Viltrumites still courted each other to have partners and not just to mate– are… specific and hard to do when one half of the courting pair… can't do them.
Viltrumite courtship rituals have changed throughout the ages before falling out of favour, as even the simple act of having a committed partner to rely on and be loyal to was deemed a weakness– something about how it would cause attachment, which, obviously. But before they did, however, there were a good few steps to proper courtship.
The first step was, of course, making one's intentions known. This was done bluntly and honestly.
"What's the term humans use when they're seeing each other romantically, again?" Conquest asks abruptly.
"Dating." You answer simply, still doing your own thing.
He hums, nods, then says, "I want to date you."
You choke on your spit.
Hold their opponent down for a full twenty-five minutes,
The second step was– not all that surprising, really– battle. If a Viltrumite was going to take someone as a partner, they needed to make sure who they'd potentially be mating with wasn't a complete and utter weakling. And so a duel would occur from sunrise to sunset, the two Viltrumites giving it their all. If the approaching person (the one who proposed the courtship in the first place) managed to:
Knock them unconscious,
Break all their limbs,
or
then they'll have proved their strength to the other and everyone else.
Which, obviously, Conquest couldn't do with you.
He looked at you as he mulled it over, eyeing your arms, your legs, eye sweeping over other parts calculatingly.
If Conquest even flicked you on the forehead, you'd die.
Yeah, battling is off the table.
It's not like he needed to prove his strength to you anyway.
The third step was more common and expected: acts of service, proof they could provide to their mate, and future young. Back before Viltrumites just took what they wanted from each other and only mated for offspring, this was a necessary step as, even then, it was every Viltrumite for themselves (except when it came to outside 'threats'– then the whole empire would unite). So, this show of effort and care meant a lot. Especially since, again, back then, Viltrumite couples did stay together for the agreed upon duration– which could just be until their offspring grew to adulthood or even go on indefinitely. It depended on the couple, truly.
And this was the step you had fulfilled immaculately since the very beginning. Caring, polite, providing for him, talking to him and hearing, listening to what he was truly saying; the food you fed him as rich as ambrosia, the moments of play and fun as fulfilling as staining his fists with the blood of a strong enemy, the simple moments of domestic bliss simply spent in one another's vicinity easing something cold in his chest.
Yes, you've fulfilled your end of this courtship ritual and have proven yourself more than worthy of him.
Now it's time Conquest proves himself worthy of you.
The thing about Conquest is that he's a quick learner. Sure, he's better at adapting to a fight and learning a new opponent's physiology and abilities than anything else, but in the end, it's all the same.
He sees. He learns. He adapts. Not always in that order, but you get the point.
So when you complain about your tap leaking? He looks up tutorials online– the human's Internet being one of the more impressive parts of their technology if he's being honest. So much stuff, and it's not even all useful!– and, once you've left the house, he gets to work.
Gentle, he reminds himself, gentle. He uses a scanner he'd retrieved from his ship (hiding on the dark side of the moon for the time being) to find exactly where the issue was and then assess it himself. A simple fix, from what he's researched.
It's fixed in less than ten minutes. He almost finds himself disappointed, for some reason having expected it to be more difficult, to require more strength, to not need such a delicate touch from him.
Hmm.
He goes in search of more things to do.
The house has a fireplace; he spends a good twenty minutes outside chopping wood for it. He finds he likes the feel of an axe in his hands, even if he can do it with his bare hands. It's oddly fun and satisfying.
You have a few bird feeders hanging around, so he tops them up. Then he checks your garden, plucking a grasshopper off of your young lemon tree. He flicks it into space. Then, almost humiliatingly, he finds himself tidying up. Even as he makes sure your home is clean and warm for your return, he wants more. This isn't enough! These are common tasks! Not fit for courtship!
But what else is there? As much as he's learned about you and humans in general so far, there is still so much he doesn't know. And how can he appropriately prove himself if he doesn't know what you lack for?
But Viltrumites are blunt. Viltrumites are straightforward. Viltrumites aren't cowards.
Conquest ain't a damn coward.
So he asks.
"C'mon, darlin'." He exhales in frustration. "There must be something you want! You've been doing all sorts of things for me. Let me do something for you now!"
You'd already rejected his offer a few times, claiming you had all you needed and that you couldn't ask him for anything.
Pah, humans and their customs! What, did you feel guilty at the thought of asking for something? At the possibility of being a burden? You were going to be his mate, ask him for stardust for all he cares! He'll get it for you, just– please, ask him to do something, anything!
Conquest hates feeling useless. And that's how he feels right now. Because despite how you thank him, despite how praises fall from your lips and make his heart ache, it's not enough. He doesn't just want to make you happy with these acts. He wants to awe you. He wants to surprise you. He wants to shock you.
He feels frustrated that he just can't. He wants to hit something, but shockingly, doesn't want you to see it, see him, as a brute. So he swallows his frustration and thinks.
What can he do for you that you can't refuse, that'll mean the world to you, that'll prove he's the perfect mate for you?
The answer comes when you make a random comment under your breath about how much everything costs. It makes something ding! in his brain and Conquest is quick to go, leaving you with a quick promise he'd be back soon and a brief kiss on your head.
Oh-ho, this was going to be perfect! He was damn near giggling with how excited he was! Flying into deep space, he shot off, eager to fix this little issue human society had forced upon all its people.
Within the human's own solar system were quite a few planets with some interesting things to be found. Such as gemstones. More specifically, diamonds.
Rare and expensive on earth, but on Neptune and Uranus?
Conquest grinned, beginning to collect some at random. Oh, you'd be so happy!
A few hours later, you stared at the large clump with wide eyes, stunned.
"I…"
Conquest preened.
"This enough to have you living comfortably?" He asks, like he didn't just deliver five diamonds the size of bowling balls to your house.
"... yeah." You said, feeling faint. "Yeah, this– yeah." You say, voice sounding high and pinched. God, this– you needed to be careful, lest you crash the economy!
While you were worrying, Conquest just looked proud, all puffed up and feeling satisfied he'd dealt with such a big issue for you.
While you figured out how to sell the diamond (only one) without crashing the economy, Conquest sought out other ways to impress his mate-to-be.
He got his answer while checking the food supply.
Sifting through your freezer, he finds it lacking in meat. There's a bunch of pre-made meals, packets of vegetables, and way too much ice cream, but not a lot of meat.
Conquest seeks to fix that.
Which leads to you coming outside after hearing a loud thud, and nearly shrieking in surprise because there's a fucking dead moose on your doorstep.
Your eyes are wide as you look from the carcass to your… something.
"Conquest! What the actual fuck."
He stood with his hands on his hips, looking proud. "What? Don't you like meat?" He asks, gesturing to the body and– and…
You sigh. "Yes, but… God, is this even legal? I'm not sure hunting moose is fine…" Not that there were any moose near where you lived. Just how far had he gone to hunt for you? If it wasn't so shocking, you'd be flattered.
No, you were definitely flattered. How could you not be, when Conquest had spent the last week doing so much for you?
Conquest watched you patiently as you clearly mulled something over. His expression softened a bit as you walked past his newest gift, coming to a stop before him.
He arched his brow, heart oddly speeding up. "Darlin'?" He asks, uncharacteristically soft. But he was getting used to it, getting used to the way he was beginning to soften his hard edges for you, make himself something more than just a weapon of conquest.
He was moulding himself into the perfect mate for you, somebody that actually deserved you, even if it was difficult for him to do so.
You break the silence, shifting your weight from foot to foot, looking up at him with those mesmerising eyes of yours.
"You said you wanted to date me. Is everything you've been doing a form of… courtship?" You ask, needing to be sure; needing it to be stated plainly.
He inclines his head. "They have been, yes."
You take a breath, feeling… unbalanced, flustered in a way you haven't been before. You've never…
"Well then." With a smile, you reach for his hand, bringing it up to your lips. Pressing a kiss to his knuckles, you give him a soft look, hoping you convey your growing affection for this alien man clearly. "I accept."
Conquest's expression becomes one of sheer joy and pride, grin wide and happy. You shouldn't be surprised when he picks you up and hugs you, but you are, yelping as he (gently) squeezes you.
Laughing, you hug him back, not expecting a display of affection like that from him, but… maybe you've had more of an effect on him than you initially thought.
"Though… please don't bring me any more dead things." You tell him with a slight grimace. "The grocery store is literally five minutes away."
Conquest practically purred when he hummed in response. "No promises."
You sigh. "I'm dating a damn cat." You mutter, idly wondering how you're going to deal with his 'gift' to you.
Hopefully Conquest knew how to field dress animals. You certainly did not.

RECONNECTING TO WI-FI…
1 DEVICE FOUND, CONNECTING TO DEVICE
CONNECTION RESTABLISHED
This is my Look Outside OC Clarence
The drawing here also follows the same template as @furiouskettle’s oc Abby
(It looked really neat)
More info under cut
They’re a middle-schooler who stayed home for a faked sick day from school. Unfortunately, they were looking at a tutorial on how to fix their router by the window and didn’t notice the Visitor outside
until they looked up
You’d find them in their room in the dark charging themself. All you’d hear are the soft whirring of a small fan and gurgling when you first enter and you’d see a small blue light in the corner. You can flick on the lights to talk with them and offer to bring them to Sam’s apartment.
I imagine they’d be merchant of some kind, mainly because they’re very skittish and afraid of literally everything on their floor. I’m not sure what floor they’d be on
They would mostly trade items for batteries and be willing to charge small electronics for free
Tumblr media
Some things about their electronic physiology I didn’t put in
I imagine their cord arm could shock things with electricity and be able to fight to a certain degree, but they’d just be too afraid to fight.
The router stuck in their head works better the higher their battery is. Better battery = Better Wi-Fi :)
I don’t think they’d die if they ran out of battery, but they wouldn’t be lucid and just be overly paranoid and afraid to the point of insanity.
The reason why they can’t talk normally is because the cord for the router is same one as in their arm, and it goes down their throat. They don’t like moving their cord arm around too much
Their left hand’s fingers are fused together, but they still have opposable thumbs at least :D
They can’t actually see their phone because of the fact their eyes are on the cameras of it
Their mouth works as an outlet (apparently)
Their antenna works as a signal booster, and connects to their brain
They try to keep their head from overheating and, fortunately, they’re also constantly tired. So they’re usually very eepy and lethargic
Siphoning electricity is something they need to do to stay sane their favorite activity.
Their ear canal’s probably broken, honestly I haven’t thought that part out
Where’s the router? He eated snorked it

Are there any differences between just wearing diapers full-time and actively untraining?
A follower sent me this question in an ask recently. I didn't feel like I could answer it comprehensively without derailing the ask. I'm answering it here instead.
The answer is: Yes, but actually no (but ...)
In humans, and in many other species, the body system which controls the voiding of bodily waste is adapted such that it is under voluntary control. However, the means by which that control is maintained require it to be maintained through use. If it isn't used, it erodes.
Untrainers actively target this, by actively refusing to use their control and by adopting strategies which will allow their body to void with minimal physiological effort. People who want to wear and use their diapers 24/7 (henceforth "24/7ers") obviously don't actively seek to lose their control. However, using diapers 24/7 means they will increasingly generally be in a situation where not using their control is a convincingly better choice and/or using it is convincingly worse.
Here's a hypothetical. It's based heavily on my experience but is not a direct factual account; it's also heavily simplified because I'd have to either do anonymisation or worldbuilding otherwise and I'm not going to do either of those things.
Say you're a college student. You have a very predictable college administration, and because of that, four days a week, you have:
a 9–11 AM lecture
an 11 AM–12 PM interval
a 12–2 PM tutorial, with no break in the middle
You have a chance to snack, hydrate, and get a coffee in the interval. As a result, you consistently have the problem of realising, about 30 minutes into your 12 PM tute, that you need to pee.
This is a problem. See, in most places, excusing yourself to pee is a neutral act, but in college, there is an expectation that you'll stay in the room unless you absolutely have to leave. Not usually an overwhelming one, but present in the same way that getting up constantly to pee at a movie theatre is somewhat more frowned upon than doing so while watching the same movie at home.
So, what do you do? Well, if you're continent, or at least wearing underwear, the answer you're pressured toward under those circumstances is just holding it for the remaining 90 minutes. Sure, it might be annoying, but if you have normal continence it's not likely to be so distracting that you can't willpower through it. If you're wearing diapers and have decided to use them, however, none of this logic applies. Short of any other intervening factors too complex and individual to be listed here, if you feel the need to pee 30 minutes in, there's no reason not to pee 30 minutes in.
The effect of this is obvious: that's 90 minutes you're not exercising your control when you otherwise would have. That's not much, but you can never have just one potato chip, as the saying goes. For instance, you also realise that you've been feeling the need to pee about 30 minutes into your morning lecture. You haven't really been thinking about it because that one does have a break at 55 minutes and it's a lot easier to wait until then. But why wait?
And so this continues. This hypothetical person is based on me so it would probably be pretty reasonable to nominally divide their day into 3 blocks of 8 hours each:
college and related things (studying on-site, commuting, etc.)
home and related things (work, study at home, free time, etc.)
sleep
(No, I did not get anywhere near that much sleep; yes, the non-college-time block was a lot bigger than that for me.)
Out of your college and related things block, when you level out you're probably holding it for maybe 50% of the time you were before, on average. So you're effectively holding for at least 4 hours fewer out of 24 per day, 4 days a week: –16 hours out of 168 per week, total.
Still not a lot, but it builds up. For instance, I think at this point we can safely assume you're still dry at night and your continence behaviour during sleep is the same as it was before you started wearing full-time. But most people at least initially find it easier to start using their diapers at home and in other familiar places, where nobody has any reason to watch them. So at home the amount of time you were holding it had already been maybe half what it would have been before. Another 4 hours' worth of non-use of control, 4 days a week, making –16/168 h/w, for a total of –32/168 h/w.
On the 3 days a week you're not at college, we can safely move the 8 hours a week that would have gone to "college and related things" into "home and related things", the block during which you're only holding for about half as long as you were anyway. So that's 16 hours total, so that's 8 hours fewer of control on each of those 3 days; 8 × 3 = 24, making a total of –(32 + 24)/168 = –56/168 h/w.
But wait! All that practice you're getting wetting your diapers at college, where you're nervous about it, is helping tremendously with wetting your diapers at home and other places where you're more comfortable. So suddenly instead of holding for 50% of the original length of time at home you're holding for 25%. Then 10%. So now that 8 hours of control not being used is 14 hours 24 minutes (× 3 days a week) and now it's –75.2/168 h/w. And it continues to add up.
And of course you can respond to this by saying, well, I want to wear diapers 24/7 but I know I don't want to lose my bladder control, so I'll simply pee at the same time I normally would have. Which makes perfect sense, but also, that's an abstract long-term commitment, and it's now competing with things like the visceral discomfort of needing to pee increasingly for 90 minutes, when you know you don't have to be experiencing that discomfort. You have to really care about the thing you're committed to for it to serve as the bulwark of your self-discipline in that kind of situation. And even then, there are probably going to be days when you're going to give in, because the machine didn't have mocha iced coffee today, it only had double espresso, and now your eyeballs are swimming.
And you can say, well, I'm not going to need to avoid peeing for 90 minutes, because I will simply do other things, like not have water and coffee directly before my two hour tutorial with no break. To which my answer is, sure. Water is necessary for brain function, caffeine is addictive. Yes, it's plausible that you'll give up one of those, but the path of least resistance is the one where you wet your diapers because it's the one where you get everything you want (staying in the lectures, wearing diapers, using diapers, drinking coffee, drinking water).
And all this discussion of self-discipline and paths-of-least-resistance is ignoring the positive disincentives against using your control. For example: When we pee in a toilet, we tend to release it all at once and as quickly as possible. In most diapers, that's not advisable. The superabsorbent polymer can't absorb that much liquid that fast; the inside of the diaper will flood and leak.
Diapers obviously can absorb a lot of liquid given enough time, so the first thing to address is flow rate. Flow rate is determined by volume (that is, if there's more pee you need to void, you will pee faster). Therefore, the way to pee at a lower flow rate is to pee when there's less pee in your bladder. The kidneys produce urine at a rate which is strongly predicted by your diet and medical conditions, so if those are relatively stable then your urine output will be too. In that case, the most effective way to pee when there's less pee in your bladder is to pee frequently. In short, diapers literally discourage you from holding your pee and encourage you to pee as close as possible to when you feel the urge.
And then, of course, there's the fact that the map is not the territory, and the view from the top of a mountain differs from the view from the bottom of the adjoining valley. Decisions about maintaining continence and responding to continence failures that are made prior to going into diapers 24/7 are made in one context. Decisions about the same matter that are made well into the process, when the things in question are or might be actually happening, are made in another context entirely. And there are obviously factors other than immediate short-term discomfort or utility that dictate what choices someone makes.
Wearing full-time isn't the same as untraining. But it makes not untraining a lot harder than it was before wearing full-time.

virtual physiology lecture recording / bio notes and comedy to relax
15 FEBRUARY 2024 | 54/100 DAYS OF PRODUCTIVITY
i think i am once again getting sick (yay compromised immune system), so i slept in quite a bit; got up in time to eat breakfast, get ready, and listen to the new tmagp episode before my noon class
sociology tutorial! did mini group presentations on the readings for the week, which was fine, but i do dislike forced small group work with people i don't really know
went back home for a bit after that, watched the recording of the physiology lecture i missed this morning
went to my capstone course! felt very half-asleep, which was also the vibe i was getting from everyone else in the room, but we talked about the readings and how our research is going, and i got my participation points in
went to ballet rehearsal, got some movement and some sweating in
thursdays are usually my "no work" nights when i can just relax guilt-free and not do homework for one night, which is good for my mental health; i unfortunately have entirely too much to do this weekend, so i'm half-heartedly getting some stuff while watching comedy specials online, mantra for the night is that anything that gets done tonight is more than i was expecting
friendly reminder that wearing a mask is an act of love!!

Note
giyuu tomioka rarely shows his face at the parties and hangouts you frequent. in fact, he rarely shows his face at all. the most you've seen of him involves chance encounters around campus - tragically too few and far between for you to learn his schedule. and he's always dressed like an arts student, black turtlenecks and canvas bags and long overcoats, sometimes with a thin silver necklace that you nearly thought was a trick of the light, glinting under the early spring sun as he stepped right past you on a crowded walkway, none the wiser regarding your pathetic infatuation. so you'd put your bet on a media major, which you'd thought was perfectly rational, and given you didn't have any source to fact check your theory you'd just stuck with it.
but shinobu’s failing to appreciate the careful logic behind your decision - or see how neatly you've drawn your conclusion from the available evidence. doubled over as she is, you're not sure she can see much of anything right now, body wracked with laughter.
“giyuu tomioka,” she chokes out, his name far too loud on her lips for your liking - given he's very likely in your close vicinity. “of all the people in the world.”
“look, that's not what's important right now.” you cross your arms, fighting back a rising heat in your face. “if he's not an arts major... i'm completely lost.”
shinobu places an overdramatic hand on her heart. “sweetheart. he's in the same degree and major as you.”
no. fricking. way.
“physiology? what the hell? which physiology major dresses well?” you rise onto your toes, twisting around to search the crowded room. where is he?
“i'd think you'd see him around in your tutorials if you're studying the same thing, surely,” shinobu says amusedly.
“holy cow. okay. well.” you take a long swig from your plastic cup - apple juice; you refuse to get drunk at college parties, but with the way this conversation’s going you’re seriously considering it.
“i can introduce you if you want,” shinobu offers sweetly, violet eyes fixed on your face. you envy her whatever satisfaction she's gleaning from your rare flustered state.
“yeah, right,” you say dryly.
“i'm serious. we sort of grew up together.”
you turn sharply to her, gaze frantically searching her face for any hint of jest, but she's completely serious.
“you never mentioned this?” you hiss, leaning in.
“you never mentioned him,” she whisper-shouts right back at you, mimicking your incredulity, eyes glinting. “how was i supposed to know?”
“well, it’s not like it’s anything serious—”
“oh dear, now i definitely won’t be introducing you.” shinobu rests a finger on her chin thoughtfully. “i wouldn’t want you breaking his heart. he’s very - how shall i say it - sensitive like that. gets upset easily, retreats, doesn’t talk for days.”
“see, that’s arts student behaviour,” you grumble as you reach out to take shinobu’s arm, steering her towards the nearest trashcan to toss your cup. there’s half-empty drinks littering the adjacent countertop and a strange substance sticking your shoes to the tiles and someone’s spilled open a bag of chips and hasn’t bothered to clean it up.
well. it’s all part of the vibe.
“so.” you lean against the fridge, eyeing down your friend. “what else do you know about giyuu?”
“well…” she taps her chin and tilts her head to the side. “oh, wait. why don’t you ask him yourself?”
you realise her plan a moment too late.
“what? shinobu - hold on—”
but before the protest has even fallen from your lips, she’s pulled giyuu out of the crowd - a magician, with her final act of materialising someone from thin air. and all of a sudden you’re much too well-acquainted with everything that’s wrong with you in this moment: your uncomfortably thick jacket, the way your lips stick together from the juice, your dishevelled hair. and he’s perfect, like he always is, as casual as you’ve ever seen him, hoodie and baggy pants, dark hair let loose - for once - in favour of tumbling lightly over his shoulders. his brows are creased, pretty mouth pursed in confusion as he stares at shinobu.
frick. he’s beautiful.
“giyuu!” shinobu says cheerfully. “we were just talking about you.” shinobu, what the hell. “let me introduce you to y/n - one of my close friends. you’ve probably seen her around campus.”
“hi,” you say awkwardly, resisting the urge to clear your throat. he turns his head to look at you and just like that you’re trapped under his gaze, fidgeting slightly, thick eyelashes framing the vivid, deep blue of his eyes. compelling. that’s the word you’d use to describe him.
“...hey,” he says back - politely enough but his confusion’s evident - gaze flitting between the two of you.
“update me,” shinobu calls out sweetly and disappears into the heaving crowd.
she's going to get it from you.
giyuu's gaze is pulled back towards you as you clear your throat.
i ain’t reading allat, congradolences or whatever

i know it's gotta be user error, i'm definitely probably doing something wrong and just gotta figure out wtf it is, but. i did not think i would have much trouble with menstrual cups ! i bought one recently to try and since i'm almost exclusively a tampon user i was like 'okay i'm sure it's a bit different but at least i'm used to inserting something etc' and.... i just cannot get it work lmao. once i figured out how to get it in, i could not for the life of me get it to open up no matter how i moved it. and again, i'm probably doing something wrong so i'm reading tips and tutorials again but :( also idk if it's something with my physiology, but i kind of felt like my body was trying to make it go way farther up there than it needed to? like i let go of it for a minute and i almost had a mini-panic because i felt like i had to struggle to reach far enough to grab it again, and everything i've read says the stem should be within like half an inch from the opening? maybe it wouldn't do that if it would actually open instead of staying folded? i don't know ! but i want this to work :( i'm sad. i'll mess with it again later, it's probably trial and error. however, taking it out was very very painful ?? again. idk what i'm doing wrong there. but anyway so i was not interested in trying again right at that moment lmao.
i want to be a menstrual cup girlie :/ please
