#picking up stitches

Made a YO and didn't realize until several rounds later.

Afterthought lifeline was pretty easy to do:

One advantage of a ball over a cake is that when you have to frog a bunch, it's easy to wind the yarn back onto the ball:

I HATE picking up stitches.
Tumblr media
Other things I learned:
I hate knitting for two and a half hours only to end up back where I started. I have no idea why I care so much. It's not like I'm working to a deadline.
Next time I need to pick up stitches I should use my skinny little DPNs and then transfer them all onto my bigger working needle afterwards. I'm hoping this will keep the stitches that are still on the waste yarn from being pulled into nothingness.
I miss stitches when picking up stitches from a lifeline/waste yarn (this causes me no end of problems when doing provisional cast ons). I guess I need to slow WAY down? Do it later when I'm no longer frustrated? Have I mentioned that I hate picking up stitches?
I need to make sure I'm not making yarnovers at the transition between needles.
I need to check my work as I go, even when it's just endless stockinette.
If you knit when you're having One of Those Days, you will probably make mistakes, even when it's just endless stockinette.

@risingtograce As luck would have it, I knit too far in my sock last night (watching Taskmaster when I only had 10 rounds to go was a stupid idea), so I took some pictures. I was going to try for a video, but I would have had to not had any knitting to take to the parade this morning if I'd done that, so my apologies.

The first picture shows me using my extra knitting needle to pick up the stitches in the fabric of the sock. You can count down the rows from the needle (I had knit 5 rounds too many, so I knew that I needed 4 rounds in between the needles I was working on and the needles I was picking up with).
The second and third picture are me attempting to show how I pick the stitches up. You can see the needle going into the knit fabric before the stitch and then coming back up in the middle of the stitch.
The fourth picture just shows that once I've picked up the stitches for a given needle I then pull that needle out of the live stitches to use to pick up the next stitches. Once I've done all of them, only then do I start to frog back. (This is also kind of important to do, because it keeps track of where the start of your round is.)

I made a pillow!
It took four months of non-stop cross-stitching, but I finally finished a pattern I bought from @8pxl a little bit ago, and tonight in a bizarre burst of productivity I finally sewed a back to it and stuffed it into a cute little pillow! It ended up being pretty much perfectly sized for a neck pillow, but I'm a bit worried about it getting dirty that way.
I highly recommend the patterns from 8xpl's shop, there are SO many gorgeous ones to choose from. I might end up getting another one soon o3o

It's interesting to think about how, to me at least, Dust and Killer are like mirror versions of each other.
One who joins a villain enthusiastically, jumps at the chance to leave his past behind and have a purpose again, and the other who has to be dragged in, would rather rot in the consequences of his own actions.
One who needs orders, needs the distraction and the action and the thrill, can't sit alone with his thoughts for too long lest he hear them clearly, and the other who can't bring himself to ignore the ghost over his shoulder, would rather sit in place and listen to his own self loathing parroted back at him than stand up and find a way to drown it out.
One who doesn't associate with his past anymore, that wasn't me and I wasn't him, and cannot stand the thought of going back from where he came, and the other who wants nothing more than to be his old self again but feels so strongly that he doesn't deserve to return to the life he tore down himself.
They both wear their new names like dog collars, but one is a gift given by someone else because he's theirs, he has somewhere he belongs that he's expected to return to, and the other is a choker tying him to a post, warning others of his danger while never allowing him to get out of arm's reach of his past.
And getting them both back-to-back while trying to understand mortals was probably enough to give Nightmare whiplash

Shetland Lace Class
Tumblr media
The knitter's guild had Lauren Nelkin, a knitting pattern designer who also teaches knitting classes, host a series of classes this weekend, and I was fortunate enough to be able to snag a spot that had opened up for her class on Shetland lace knitting this morning! These are the swatches I made of the bead stitch and bird's eye stitch, though I mostly worked on the bird's eye stitch at home. There's also a sample of a lace edging that's quite a bit bigger repeat, and a bit more intimidating, that I'll attempt to swatch up later.

Just started the 2nd ball of handspun wool for this shawl.
Never knitted anything in lace before, this the Shetland butterflies shawl by Susan Gutperl, found on ravelry.
It's merino and so soft and squishy, I'm always amazed I spun this so fine!

Keeper, what is your relationship with Archivist?
(I ask this because I found out you lost some other ask of someone questioned the same or similar thing and that it was the Reveal of some lore so I asked this so you can do it still!)
You are the most helpful little helper ( even if in the end I found the ask I thought I lost lmao )
But, for your good help anyway, I'll ramble about Keeper's relationships
I think it's stuff I mentionned before but only in tags so here's an explanation of Keeper's relationships !
•Adopted children, characters that she actually raised: Archivist (by @/pom3-cryns), Morpheus (by @/finstel) [this may include more characters later on]
•Characters that are like foster children to her : Filante, Messenger
•'Neighbors kid' she cares for as her own : Trader, Courier, Observer
•Friends (on equal level, so less of a maternal connections) : Filante, Wayfinder, Watcheye
•Patients (those she cared back to health): Stitcher, Faceless, most of the other characters you may see in her domaine
Most people, y/n or you viewers fall in the patient or neighbors kid category btw, depending on what you need from Keeper
•Coworkers/Part of the oob system like her : Observer, Solver, Shopkeeper, Watcheye, Archivist, Admin
•Cousins : the Nyxies, any Nyxies really, but most often 1.0, 2.0 and 3.0. And also Muse. Keeper see them as cousins because I'm their creators, she'll feel that way with most of my AUs
Damaged relationship : Stitcher, Admin
You may notice some characters are in multiple categories, and it's too highlights the complex relationships she has. It's full of nuances. Archivist is her son but also a coworker. Filante started out as a foster kid but things developped between them to a point that kind of relationship hurt them both, so Keeper had to take a step back and let Filante go so they could be on equal grounds.
I hope this lil bit of lorz sharing wasn't too much
New asks are coming tonight ! And hopefully during the week too
I have to comb through what I can answer and start to show more lore more frankly
In the mean time, reminder that I have a website where a lot of stuff was revealed, and in some of the lastest asks I gave away a lot of stuff too
The crew decided that we could stop teasing the lore and instead being more frank about it, so get ready for that whenever it comes lmao
