When the sign at the butcher shop is flipped to closed, it doesn't necessarily mean Malachi isn't inside working for clients. But it keeps the unsuspecting customers looking for sliced turkey breast or fresh steaks out, and that's a blessing in itself. It's alone with music playing that Mal usually finds his rhythm while he works in the back - worn hands peeling away skin, cutting up flesh. Methodical for the waste, surgical for the important bits. Fingers bloodied up to his wedding ring - a piece of seaglass in resin, wrapped in sterling silver in small precise loops. He's wiped it free of the ichor of the dead so many times.

Even with AC/DC blaring from the radio, he can hear the bell of the front door. Hm. Mal turns and picks up a rag. Little care about the dead body half-finished on the table in back. He pushes the door open with an elbow and raises eyebrows as he sees Pierre there. A face he's only really encountered around the power plant.

"Pierre." Malachi's voice is always smooth and soft - the chilling purr of a panther before it strikes, even if there's no intention to fight at all. This is his husband's boss, his affiliate and business partner. He wipes blood from his hands. "To what do I owe the pleasure?"
