I re-watched The City Of Lost Children (1994)

This is a film I rented from Hollywood video a long time ago. I chose it solely for the strange box art. Little did I know it would introduce me to French filmmaker Jean-Pierre Jeunet.

With the help of an orphan girl, a sideshow strong-man goes looking for his adopted little brother, after the child was been kidnapped by a mad scientist.

The world created by directors Jean-Pierre Jeunet and Marc Caro in this film is absolutely incredible. It is a circus style fairy-tale set in a grimey city on the sea, where a cult of blind cyborgs sell stolen children to a mad scientist in an effort to aid him in his plan is to steal the children's dreams. Fleas can be used in conjunction with a hurdy-gurdy for mind control purposes. Devilish conjoined twin sisters run an orphanage of thieving children. It is a world of make-believe that walks the line between childhood wonder and a a dark French nightmare.

Most people know Jean-Pierre Jeunet as the man behind the fantastic "Amelie" and the dreadful "Alien: Resurrection". Most people would also say that it's the visual storytelling of Juenet's films that sticks with you. That is most evident here, in a film which blends gothic and steampunk aesthetics. It's Terry Gilliam by way of French science fiction. And, it doesn't hurt that the costumes were designed by Jean-Paul Gaultier.

Sure the story can be a little simplistic and complicated at the same time, but you won't care much. It's just so nice to look at, endlessly interesting (in a somewhat magical sense), and it has a great cast led by Ron Perlman (He didn't understand a word of French when they started filming.)

A really wonderful film and an example of how the best 1990's science fiction and fantasy found creativity in the darkest and dreamiest places.

Usagi is Surprisingly an avid fan of Lucha Libre. Her favorite wrestler is Lone Star. And El Silver Mask Jr. Of the up and coming generation she like Zero Kelvin, French Twist, Pierre Del Fuego, Rikochet, and The Flea. Her favorite among the newer gen is Zero Kelvin. //For all these idiots, most of them have a partner that I will always ship with but I am also not a huge 'otp' person. I feel like otp comes off as this is my one and only when I have several and they're all my faves. I can tell you the ships I have and love though!

Pierre has Striker and Arackniss that he is currently shipped with and gods I love them both everything they do for Pierre is so sweet and wholesome and they married (first muse/oc I have had get married to 2 people and they aren't in a poly relationship and it wasn't caused by a drunk night in space vegas xD shout out to the real ot3 with Nemo)

Astor has Niss, Vox and Striker and each of them are so different and so interesting because it gives Astor the overlord, sinner and hellborn dynamics and each of them push something for him in a way that makes him grow (I created him and thought he was going to wind up with Husk/Alastor and he bamboozled me those are his dads now lmfao)

Actually I think Blitzo might be the only one I straight up have favoritism for a ship for because I love Fizzarolli and all the drama that comes from those two

For the rest though, I am open to most things but it depends on the muse if they will actually happen.

I don't usually ship with Angel but Raptors out here winning Vox over with fluffy tits so, it seriously runs on the muse and I just work here xD
