VIDEO: F-117 "Dark Angel" goes by highway to museum in Arizona

Departing from the Tonopah Test Range in Nevada on Sunday (13/11), an F-117A was transported by truck through Arizona highways to the Pima Air & Space Museum in Tucson.

The trip took two days and arrived today at the museum in Pima, where it has already been removed from the truck and already rests on its landing gear. The entire process was recorded by the Boneyard Safari team.

The Lockheed F-117A Nighthawk in particular (USAF 84-0810), named "Dark Angel" is joining the museum's collection and lined up for restoration to soon be on public exhibition.

Stealth with the paint removed slowly crossed the state. The F-117 called Dark Angel flew in the first Gulf War and also over the former Yugoslavia in 1999.

The F-117A Night Hawk "Dark Angel" aircraft made its first flight on January 18, 1985 and flew 26 missions with the 416th TFS and then an undisclosed number of operational missions with the 9th FS.

Brian Maguire expressionist paintings address issues of social injustice and malfunction. He has worked with marginalised groups in institutions in Ireland, Poland and the US. Maguire represented Ireland at the São Paolo Biennale in 1998. He was appointed Professor of the Fine Art Faculty of the National College of Art and Design in 2000 and is an elected member of Aosdána.

In 2019, Brian Maguire visited Dr Greg Hess, Chief Medical Examiner for Pima County, Tucson, Arizona. Dr Hess gave the artist access to some thousand visual records of migrant lives lost in the crossing from South and Central America and Mexico, into the United States.

Each discovery of a body in the desert creates a case and digital images. Using a selection from this photographic source, Brian began a new series of paintings, acknowledging the many unidentified victims who undertook this perilous journey.

In explaining his process in creating memorial works Maguire has said: “for the Juarez Femicides series I used the family photograph as an image upon which to base the commemorative painting. The mothers of deceased women and girls recognize that the portrait remembers their children as they, the mothers, remember their children.” Elaborating on Arizona, he says: “This project is different in that it is the death I record or memorialise. No family would like to retain this image of a loved one, except as needed by a process of seeking justice. My work since 1997 has become increasingly focused on lives lost, often with a political perspective on the event of the loss.”

Maguire’s most recent bodies of work directly confront issues of migration, displacement and human dignity in the face of the current global unrest. They are some of his most nuanced and ambitious to date, which he has crafted with larger brushes and thinned-down acrylic on canvas.

The exhibition features a short collaborative film Brian made with Mark McLoughlin of bangbangteo, an independent documentary production company. Previous collaborations between Brian Maguire and bangbangteoinclude the film BLOOD RISING, which focused on communicating stories of brutal femicide in Juarez, Mexico. The film, Remains - Brian Maguire, offers a window into the artist’s working methods and his motivations. Brian is filmed in conversation with people intimate with the complexities of life at the US/Mexican border.

Maguire has shown extensively in Europe and the US, most recently at the Museo De Arte de Ciudad Juarez, Mexico and the Rubin Centre, Texas University at El Paso, Texas (September 2019), at the United Nations Headquarters, New York, (in 2020), the Rhona Hoffmann Gallery, Chicago, (January 2021), and Galerie Christophe Gaillard, Paris (March 2021).

A fuselage of a disassembled B-52H strategic bomber is taking a truck trip from Tucson to Oklahoma City and here are some incredible photos of his journey.

On January 4, 2022, the B-52H "61-0009" began its next journey to Oklahoma, where it will become the test base for research and modernization of the B-52 fleet.

The B-52H 61-0009, a piece of American history, is on the move: according to Boneyard Safari Facebook page, after the recovery of aircraft around the world carefully prepared the aircraft for transportation by removing the wing and horizontal stabilizer at the Pima Air and Space Museum in Tucson (Arizona).

As explained by Brian Brackens of the Air Force Life Cycle Management Center, the left wing and fuselage [the aircraft's main body] will eventually be relocated to a Boeing facility in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, where it will serve as an integration model. The 61-0009's right wing and horizontal stabilizer will be transported to the McFarland Research and Development Center in Wichita, Kansas, to support structural integrity research for the B-52H or ASIP Aircraft Structural Integrity Program.

Upon arrival in Oklahoma City, the left wing and fuselage will be replaced and used to test how new technologies or modifications will integrate with the B-52 aircraft. The integration model or model will support a number of current and future modification initiatives, including the Commercial Engine Replacement Program and the Radar Modernization Program.

The integration model will not be limited only to weapons. Any technology or capacity designed to hang on the wing or attach to the fuselage can be tested, including pods and antennas. In addition, the model will open up opportunities for innovation by providing access to industry and other government agencies through Cooperative Research and Development Agreements to test new ideas and equipment.

While at McFarland Research and Development, the right wing and horizontal stabilizer will be studied in order to learn more about the structural limitations and how long the USAF can expect the parts to last on the B-52s currently flying. Most importantly, the research there will provide important structural data on the B-52H, which will guide future decisions about the platform.

As already reported, before being removed from storage and towed to the Pima Air & Space Museum, the tail of B-52H number 61-0009 was in non-votable status in the 309th Aerospace Maintenance and Regeneration Group (AMARG) at Davis-Monthan Air Base in Arizona.

As a Boneyard Safari spokesman explained to Fox 10, the bomber was built in 1961 and withdrawn from service in 2008.

It took about four months to disassemble, adjust and get it ready for change. The entire trip will take about three weeks.
