Request Wednesday: Brave
(he/him afab) Bakugou & (she/her amab) Ochako, TW misgendering, gender dysphoria
+++
They kept calling him “she” after Kamino Ward. Kept misgendering him during interviews. It was like Bakugou had to fight on two fronts in his brain, one telling him he killed All Might and the other telling him he wasn’t what he said he was. He holed up in his room for awhile, didn’t want to see those newscasts telling everyone the explosive hero-in-training was so brave and strong… for a girl.
He didn’t cry about it. At least that’s what he told his parents. He didn’t care, is what he told Kirishima. And when Round Face tried to console him, he just brushed her off.
Eventually the stories died down. And after his fight with Deku he figured everything was back to normal, more or less.
He was wrong.
A couple weeks later, one of the larger news stations emailed him about an interview and he figured it would be a good time to set the world straight on what pronouns were the right ones. He went on national television and griped at the interviewer for using ‘she’. The woman was taken aback, but attempted to correct herself and her teleprompter.
It was good. And he felt accomplished afterwards.
But then the reporters started lining up. He was now the story. Headlines of ‘He? Survived Villains’ kept coming out, and reporters hounded him with questions of what was between his legs.
“None of your fucking business!” he screamed, attempting to get inside the gates of UA.
“Tell us what made you decide to change your gender?”
And he was on the verge of crying. Big bad Katsuki Bakugou was about to cry on national television, when a shrill voice cut through all the others.
“EXCUSE ME???”
Round Face was red and steaming, stomping her way over to the offending reporter.
“HE shouldn’t have to answer your transphobic questions! YOU should know better! And you know what? Fuck you!”
Bakugou went from nearly crying to nearly cracking up, because it was the first time he ever heard Uraraka curse.
The crowd parted for her and she walked with him onto the school grounds.
“If that ever happens again…” she went quiet but the implication was clear.
“Thank you,” he whispered.
“Not all of us are passing,” she smiled back.
