super normal thing to ask probably but does anyone have any recommendations for videos or articles or whatnot explaining pokemon. like just sort o the franchise in general and how it all works to someone who presumably knows next to nothing about pokemon

↻ᴹᵉˢˢᵃᵍᵉ ˡᵒᵃᵈᵉᵈ ꒰ character.txt now available ꒱
the first post of this blog is going to be about one of my favorite characters, and some thoughts i have about them! let me tell you all about ramon / ramona. i will be using both she/her and he/him pronouns in this post.
Tumblr media
there's not a lot of information on the game's fandom wiki, so everything in this post is from my own playthrough(s) of the game. but anyway, pictured above is ramona in realium (real space).
we first meet her in the game twisted & perverted (t&p), during the first case, ‘like father, like son’.
when you meet him, this is the skin (avatar) she uses.
Tumblr media
and she’s addressed as ramon the entire time. even the voice used by the character, in the game, is very masculine. the only way his irl equivalent is revealed is through doing his sidequest and talking to her grandfather.
tldr of the quest: ramon(a) asks you to track down a guy for her, and refuses to give you information about your current investigation otherwise. so, you agree, and you find an older gentleman with a similar dress style and red facepaint/tattooing named pasinator.
when you bring the man to him, they have an argument about being in the game world, to which two things are revealed: the man is ramon(a)’s grandfather, and ramon(a) isn’t all what they seem (in both terms of identity and general personality; she softens up a lot around pasinator).
you also learn the whole reason for ramon(a) being in the game world is because he’s part of the hon clan, and he does jobs to get money to afford healthcare for her grandfather (now that he’s retired out of his championship career) and escape poverty.
but the cool part is, nothing about the character in game changes. ramon(a)’s appearance and name only change when you meet him in real space.
and it honestly gives me such transmasc energy. especially when considering this blurb from the game’s kickstarter development notes (which i found on a forum site):
꒰ one of the aspects of creating interesting characters is to think about what they would look like, if they had an option to choose it. ꒱
like… idk about any of y'all, but i know a pivotal experience of my transmasc journey was using male avatars in games. why? because i couldn’t just do that in real life.
especially when it’s put into the perspective that, yes, any player can choose any appearance… but a lot of them don’t. a lot of the characters show up as themselves in the games and throughout the cases, even if they’re maybe wearing clothing they normally wouldn’t (like ken, who you find in t&p dressed like the matrix motherfucker).
the game itself (gamedec, not t&p) falls into an interesting binary when it comes to gender.
the only pronouns the player can use are he/him and she/her, but they’re not limited to appearance. you can choose a fem presenting avatar and use he/him, and vice versa. and it seems like, in ramon(a)’s case, there is an attempt to break the binary that just doesn’t… land, either due to a glitch (a lot of people have seen the mismatch in general identifiers for many characters, even your pc), or due to a lack of exploration.
either way, there’s some sorta cool gender fuckery going on here, and i love the idea of ramon(a) being a transmasc butch who uses she/him pronouns.

don't really know how to word what I am. but basically I think I'm... a player character. in the literal sense of being a vessel for a player and having nothing inherently of my own
