Barbara Gordon made her DC comics debut in 1967 in Detective Comics #359, “The Million Dollar Debut of Batgirl.” Initially introduced to the comics as a way to test fan reception to the idea of a new “Batgirl” appearing in the 1960s ABC Batman show, Barbara would outlast her television counterpart and go on to become a vital part of the DC universe and a fan favorite character.
Under the cut is a summary of Barbara Gordon’s comic history pre-New 52 and an extensive list of comics in which she appears as the information jockey and wheelchair-using superhero, Oracle.
Basic Reading
Batman Chronicles #5 (1996)
Black Canary/Oracle: Birds of Prey (1996)
Birds of Prey (1999)
Batgirl (2000)
Batgirl (2009)
Birds of Prey (2010)
Pre-Crisis on Infinite Earths, Barbara was the daughter of Gotham Police Commissioner James Gordon and the head librarian at the Gotham City Public Library. Barbara takes on a second job as Batgirl after fighting Killer Moth while dressed up in a Batman-inspired costume for a masquerade ball. Although Batman is resistant to the idea of a girl helping him fight crime, he is unable to prevent Babs from assisting him and Robin in protecting Gotham. She also develops a close friendship and working relationship with Supergirl. During the 1970s, Barbara Gordon became a Congresswoman and continued to operate as Batgirl in Washington, D.C. After failing to be reelected, Babs returned to Gotham, where she worked as Batgirl up until the Crisis.
Post-Crisis on Infinite Earths, Barbara’s continuity underwent extensive reconstruction. No longer Jim Gordon’s daughter, she was his niece until her parents died while she was a teenager and her uncle brought her to Gotham and adopted her. A talented athlete and genius with a photographic memory, Babs longed to join the GCPD, but Jim did not like the idea of her having such a dangerous career. Eventually, Babs found her own way to help in joining Batman and Robin in fighting crime as Batgirl. In Batgirl Special (1988), Barbara retired from being Batgirl and resumed her civilian life. Later that year, the infamous graphic novel, The Killing Joke, was published. In Alan Moore’s story, Barbara Gordon was shot and assaulted by the Joker, in an attempt to drive her father insane. As a result of her gunshot wound, Babs was paralyzed from the waist-down and began using a wheelchair to get around. Although she served as little more than a plot device, the repercussions of what happened to her in The Killing Joke would reshape much of the DC Universe.
Here’s where Oracle enters. Although DC editorial, by and large, had no further plans for Barbara Gordon’s character post-Killing Joke, writers Kim Yale and John Ostrander sought to create a place in comics for a superhero in a wheelchair who had no special powers of her own. Thus, Oracle was created as Barbara Gordon’s hacker and information specialist superhero persona. Oracle would first appear in Ostrander’s run on Suicide Squad before slowly reappearing as a Batman supporting character in the 1990s. In 1996, Chuck Dixon wrote the one-shot Black Canary/Oracle: Birds of Prey, which eventually spun off into its own popular and much beloved series in 1999. Oracle remained an integral part of DC canon, training two new Batgirls, working with Batman, the Birds of Prey and even the Justice League, until the New 52 reboot in 2011, when DC decided to return Babs to her status as Batgirl. The editorial decision to have Barbara undergo surgery to rid her of her paralysis has undergone major scrutiny and been heavily maligned by disability advocates, however, Babs is no closer to returning to her role as Oracle or her wheelchair.
Below is a (mostly) chronological list of Oracle’s most prominent appearances in DC comics! (My personal favorites will be bolded.)
[As a note - many of Oracle’s early appearances have her hiding behind a computer/in a cameo role, as her identity was not yet revealed to comic readers. I am including these early appearances in my list to show people how the mystery unfolded, but if you want to skip they will be marked with an asterisk!]

PAC #5: What Makes You Beautiful
Today’s reading will be based on the One Direction song, “What Makes You Beautiful.” Honestly, it’s been years since I listened to that song, but I still remember all the lyrics as vividly as when it was all over the radio haha. The main idea of this reading is pretty straightforward: what makes you beautiful! We’re all beautiful in our own ways- don’t let society make you think otherwise! Beauty doesn’t just have to be physical- it can be the qualities and quirks that make you shine inside and out. Please pick one of the four earrings laid out with the first earring being the orange flower. I’ll use my Oracle deck (which I’m loving so far!) and my Kawaii tarot deck to channel some insights and let you know… what makes you beautiful!
Disclaimer: I am NOT a psychic or medium, and I’m still relatively new to the tarot sphere. Each reading gives me the chance to hone my skills, so if these readings don’t resonate (as can be the case with general readings), I’m glad you were here and I hope you have a great rest of your day :) Additionally, I am not a licensed therapist, so please do not treat these readings as therapy.

Pile One: 6 of Wands Reversed, 7 of Swords Reversed, Knight of Cups, Mirror, Throne, Raindrops
So immediately, pile one, I see with the Throne and Mirror, you have endless potential. You may have been feeling self-conscious of your beauty recently, but the cards are telling me that you have to learn to love the body you have and the spirit that resides in it. You may have struggled with positive body image and self-image when you were younger but I see that you are a long way away from that person you used to be. Even if you feel like you aren’t as far along on your positive body image journey as you want to be, you are definitely a long way from where you were. Your beauty lies in your ability to cultivate healthy mindsets and boundaries regarding your body and your health. While beauty standards vary by country and culture, the universal symbol of beauty, physical or otherwise, is health. When you’re physically healthy, you have a fit and strong body and when you’re mentally healthy, your positive energy radiates from within. You accept yourself as you are rather than what society tells you to be and that’s awesome, pile one! You may be a bit of a contradiction, pile one, being both kind and strong, idealistic and realistic. The reason you may be this way is because you’ve walked through hell and back, so you are strong as hell, but you are kind enough to not let anyone else suffer through what you’ve been through. You know those people who suffer through something, but they feel like they have to make everyone else suffer in the same way or even worse? That’s not you, pile one, and everyone around you appreciates that about you! With the six of wands in reverse, I see that you may have had a tendency to take on too much in the past which is why you are cautious about whatever comes your way- while it is good to be discerning, don’t let that interfere with taking charge when you have to! And finally, with the Knight of Cups, I see your loved ones acknowledge your sweet, caring, gentle, and romantic side.
That’s all I have for you, pile one! Please leave a comment, like, and reblog if the message resonates. And do let me know of any ideas for future PACs :)
Pile Two: 8 of Cups Reversed, Page of Swords, 6 of Wands, Sundress, Thorns, Bitch-Fire
Wow, pile two, such badass cards! So I can automatically tell with the Page of Swords, you have an unending curiosity that has to be quenched. You always have a question for everything, and that’s beautiful. There’s a little scientist in you that wants to know everything about how the world works and more. It reminds me of the theme Input from the CliftonStrengths dominant themes personality test. (If you don’t know much about this personality test or the theme Input, I highly recommend you look it up!) With the 6 of Wands card, I see that you garner success and recognition everywhere you go. You may not consider yourself to be a traditionally popular person, but everyone around you sees you that way. And it’s no wonder they do! With the Thorns card, the message says, “weave together the crown you deserve.” You work hard, you’re self-sufficient and you weave your own crown, and seeing this independent aura you emanate is beautiful, pile two. You don’t depend on anybody to make you happy and that is a skill which takes years to master for most people. You stand up for yourself and whatever you pursue, you do it for you, first and foremost. That’s NOT to say you are selfish- it’s not selfish to put yourself first sometimes! What these cards tell me is that you’re not afraid to go against the grain and shake things up. Society needs movers and shakers like you, pile two, to question the status quo and put some changes in place. You’re not afraid to get loud and speak up when you have something to say. Even if you’re more introverted, you still speak your mind and won’t keep quiet when you see injustice happening. You make things happen, pile two, and you have a community of people who recognize your light and cheer you on. Sounds like you have a bit of a fan club haha. And finally, with some cups energy in the mix, I see you have a softer and more emotional side that only your close family and friends can see, and they love you for it. You may even have a nostalgic side behind the scenes despite your futuristic ideas.
That’s all I have for you, pile two! Please leave a comment, like, and reblog if the message resonates. And do let me know of any ideas for future PACs :)
Pile Three: High Priestess Reversed, 5 of Pentacles, 8 of Pentacles, Lighthouse, Phoenix, Garden
So, I see a lot of Pentacles energy for you, pile three, so you could be an Earth sign or have a lot of Earth in your natal chart. Pentacles is often associated with Taurus, Virgo, and Capricorn in western astrology, so if this is you, please take this reading as extra confirmation. With the five of pentacles, I see you are a bit stingy with money, but I don’t see this as a bad thing! Even though the five of pentacles is not seen as a great card in tarot, for the purposes of this reading, I see it as having come from almost nothing but you’re making something of yourself. The Phoenix card perfectly reflects this because you are determined to creating your own happily ever after without a Prince/Princess Charming, and like pile two, your independence is beautiful. I also see with the Garden oracle card and the eight of pentacles, you’re allowing your craftsmanship in your skills to flourish just like how plants flourish in a garden with proper sunlight and water (see what I did there;) You’re careful with money because you may not have had enough growing up and you’re always fearful that it can go in the blink of an eye. You have a good head on your shoulders, pile three, and that’s what makes you beautiful, but I see sometimes you have a tendency to be too nitpicky with money. No need to be a Scrooge McDuck, pile three! It’s okay to treat yourself every once in a while, but don’t make it a habit out of it.
I’ve noticed that with all of my piles so far, there’s a hidden side of you that’s the opposite of what you show to the world, and I see that your spirituality is what makes you beautiful to the people close to you. While pentacles and earth energy is certainly materialistic, your spiritual side with the High Priestess card, even though it’s in reverse, can point to having a strong intuition, but because of the nature of reversed cards, I see that you may not trust your intuition when it comes to career and business. While that’s a good, practical mindset to have, sometimes, trusting your intuition can take you places where you never even saw yourself before which is a beautiful thing. I see with the Lighthouse card, pile three, that you have a tendency to doubt whether you’re enough because of the financial circumstances you grew up in, but you must remember to champion yourself. If you’re independent enough to stand on your own two feet after hardship, you can absolutely remind yourself that you’re always enough and that your financial situation doesn’t determine your worth. Even if you have to write “I am enough” on a post-it note and add it to your mirror or repeat it to yourself every morning, that little bit of self-care can go a long way!
That’s all I have for you, pile three! Please leave a comment, like, and reblog if the message resonates. And do let me know of any ideas for future PACs :)
Pile Four: Star Reversed, 9 of Cups, Two of Cups, Voyage, Tree, Mural
***Apologies for the low-res image, pile four! My hand got shaky taking that picture haha
Are you a water sign or a Jupiter Dominant, pile four? Or perhaps you have your Moon or Jupiter or both in the ninth house? If you answered “yes” to one or more of these placements, pile four, please take this reading as extra confirmation. So I see with the Star reversed card, you are a shining light, but because this card is in reverse, you have a tendency to dim your light because you put others first (with the cups energy). It’s beautiful that you put others first, pile four, but don’t forget to put yourself first sometimes! You don’t want to end up like the Giving Tree that gave everything it had until it became a stump and even then, the boy wasn’t appreciative of all that the Giving Tree did for him. Your soft heart and generous spirit is beautiful, pile four, but don’t let people take advantage of you! No matter how genuinely good you are, there will always be people out there who will want to take advantage of your goodness for their own personal gain without acknowledging what you’ve done for them. Stay as far away from these energy vampires as possible, pile four! You do NOT need them in your life and they don’t deserve you.
I also get the vibe that you are wise, and especially if you are young, you might be wise beyond your years. Your wisdom is beautiful, pile four, and you value rich, deep relationships whether they are platonic or romantic. You are a present moment kind of person, always enjoying the life in front of you instead of worrying about the future (as so many of us tend to do!) or getting held up by your past. You may be a free spirit with the Voyage card, and if you have your Moon in the ninth house or you’re a Jupiter dominant, this doubles or triples your confirmation (depending on your placements). You may be artistic, because I see in the Mural card imagery, the girl is painting on her wall with her materials (and her cat!) in front of her. Even if you don’t paint, you may be artistic in other ways- through music, dance, writing, tarot (hehe;), whatever it is, you were born to create something beautiful in this world. You are also beautiful because you let things go- whether it’s regrets, past mistakes, relationships that didn’t work out, or friendships where you were left behind in the dust. Whatever doesn’t serve you, you let it fly, and that’s a beautiful quality to have, pile four. Most people spend lifetimes caught up on people and situations that didn’t work out, but you don’t hesitate to move on regardless of whether you get closure or not. The world could learn a thing or two from you, pile four!
That’s all I have for you, pile four! Please leave a comment, like, and reblog if the message resonates. And do let me know of any ideas for future PACs :)

MERCURY RX / tarot predictions
astrology predictions coming soon! these are meant to apply to your dominant signs, sun, moon & ascendant especially.
twitter for tarot/astro 🤍 tip jar
fixed signs (scorpio, taurus, leo, aquarius)
you guys are feeling ROUGH right now, aren’t you? when i did this reading i kept hearing "why me? will anything good ever happen for me? am i supposed to be sad/suffer forever?" (i don’t often hear things when i do readings but i felt this being yelled into my ear..in the most painfully exasperated voice i have ever heard). a lot of you are going through, or are about to go through, what is called a “tower” moment. if you’re not familiar with tarot, the tower card represents an ending, usually. it can represent sudden chaos, a falling apart, and similar things in the life; internally or externally. but these tower moments tend to bring through new beginnings and important lessons, so please don’t take this with fear. know something better is coming.
you all feel like the entire world is against you in this moment. nothing seems to be going in your favor, you feel like you try so hard with minimal reward that there’s just no point anymore. i’m here to tell you there IS a point; you do have so much purpose in this life and you will do great things. i'm also seeing a lot of you are reliving family/childhood trauma, possibly trying to heal from it or it just won't leave your mind lately. some of you may even currently be having issues with your family & feel very defensive and trapped. isolated and/or disconnected from the people who are supposed to understand.
queen of wands & temperance energy is coming for you during this mercury rx too! you're being divinely guided; and encouraged to pursue creative projects. you're being pushed hard to heal during this rx period, it's really a strong time of reflection for you all. no more pushing people away or unhealthy periods of social isolation. i'm getting youthful energy, excitement, finding joy in the small things again after this tower moment. but it's so vital that you focus on caring for your inner child right now. i'm also being told you need to face your fears, your past, your pain; and heal. you must work through this. you cannot keep repressing your emotions and problems and thoughts and hoping they will just go away; they will not. they must be confronted; fears must be confronted. i specifically pulled “recovery”, “within the next few months” and “helpful people” from my angel answers oracle.
also, i got a few cards and some energy surrounding manipulation. protect your energy this mercury retrograde and make sure you and your energy aren’t being taken for granted or pushed around.
key words for mercury rx, fixed signs: facing fears, significant change/tower moment, care for your inner child, healing & recovery, focus on creativity, work on healing [especially family/childhood-related traumas]; be wary of manipulation.
other oracle messages: “new moon in scorpio: work through your fears, waxing moon: the energy is gaining momentum, north node: step out of your comfort zone, you got the love: boundaries, codependency"
cardinal signs (aries, libra, capricorn, cancer)
your reading got a lot of mixed energy. the first thing that stood out to me, was much like fixed signs, a feeling of defeat. i think you may have, or are about to, go through something (likely something *small*, that feels very big) - possibly a rejection; that feels heavy. it’s left you feeling very upset and kind of “over” everything. i’m hearing right now a lot of you lack focus, energy, drive. you’re giving in to self-sabotaging behaviors, i think in multiple areas of life. the majority of you i believe are sabotaging friendships, relationships and possibly also your career/passions right now. i heard “hey, we gotta get our shit together and stop slacking”.
this reading was FULL of cups; which often represents emotional and relationship related things (in my experience). i’m hearing a lot about broken communication between loved ones, connections being damaged, ties being severed, etc. if you’re cutting connections for good, keep going! but please cardinals be careful of sabotaging your positive, healthy connections during these stressful times. i know you want to isolate and take everything on your own, but you’re being urged to reach out. connecting with others will bring you more comfort than you realize. you need to stop taking the weight of the world on your shoulders alone. there are people out there who want to help you carry these burdens, and opening up and being vulnerable with others is not a weakness, it is a strength. it is a strength that you must learn to master soon.
another big thing for cardinals right now to focus on is finding balance. the energy right now is rough, and it’s okay to take and need breaks. recharge as you need. but again, make sure you aren’t shutting everyone out and blocking your own opportunities for growth and change. you’re coming to the end of a cycle right now, from what i’m gathering. it’s been a tough cycle, but the next one will be easier if you carry forth these lessons you’ve learned.
i did also get some HARDCORE new love energy in this reading, cardinals! it was yelling at me. i think a few of you are about to connect with someone on a deeper level, it seems romantic but it could possibly be a new close friend coming in as well; regardless it will be someone who holds a lot of pure love for you. it seems to be a new person; not someone you already know (or someone who is relatively new in your life still/you aren’t close yet). you’re beginning new cycles in your relationships; for the better; “it’s up to you” and “in the near future” are the timing cards i pulled. i think this is yet another push for cardinals to get out of isolation mode and start reaching out again.
key words for mercury rx, cardinal signs: adjustments, emotional fulfillment, putting yourself out there, new love/connections, facing fears, reaching out, vulnerability, balance
other oracle messages: “new moon: a new start is coming!, third quarter moon: adjustments are required, new moon in scorpio: work through your fears, you’re not alone: isolation, physical connection, community”
mutable signs (gemini, sagittarius, virgo, pisces)
mutables, what happened! this reading was a rough one for you as well. i’m seeing a tower moment has caused a lot of you to go into serious self-reflection mode. you seem to be taking it so well, though. you’re using your resilience to turn these harsh moments as ways to learn, grow and become a better you. and i’m so proud of you for that! you’re not giving yourselves enough credit and praise for the things you’ve accomplished and been through. be careful this self-reflection period does not turn into pushing people away and absolute isolation, however.
i’m also seeing some of you may have recently gone through a very intense heartbreak that’s left you absolutely crushed and defeated in terms of love. you just want to go into hermit mode and be by yourself for a while. that’s okay! take the time to yourself that you need; but again remember above about not going into full isolation for too long. i also want you all to be wary of impulsiveness, recklessness, as well as manipulation (but specifically, manipulation on your end). these words came up a few times in your reading.
i see a lot of you are in a period of immense indecision, it actually seems to be so serious a lot of you are crying over this decision? i’m not sure about what but i’m seeing it’s likely relating to your future (mainly school or career is what i’m getting). some of you might be feeling like your dreams and aspirations have been crushed, you feel very defeated. you have no idea who you are or what you want anymore. you’re starting to doubt yourself and anything you’ve planned for your future. you feel as if nothing in your life is right for you anymore and it’s causing you great amounts of stress. i’m getting the image of someone pacing around in their room anxiously, tons of tabs open about different programs/schools, job options, etc on their laptop while they do so.
i know everything is hard and frustrating right now, but the energy i got for the future/as mercury rx closes was so bright and promising! i heard confidence, determination, personal growth, closing out a cycle. as you go through these difficult periods of self reflection, you’re going to emerge with this newfound leader energy; you’re going to be ready to take on whatever you end up deciding on, and you WILL be successful if you stay strong and keep pushing for what you desire. there is so much passion in your reading, you really are on the brink of a breakthrough in terms of what you want to pursue and what you truly desire. i think most of you already know; you’re just being held back by fear. angel oracle gave the messages of “trust” and opportunity”; trust yourself and have faith in your won decisions. you got this, mutables.
key words for mercury rx, mutable signs: indecision, self-reflection, planning, life purpose, strength, resilience, manipulation, confusion, impulse, significant change/tower moment
other oracle messages: “full moon in sagittarius: look at the bigger picture, full moon in capricorn: the end of a tough cycle approaches, cardinal moon: be bold and make the first move, you got the love: boundaries. codependency”
if this resonated, please let me know! reblogs/likes, likes/retweets on twitter and tips are always so appreciated 🤍

I’m still angry about the DLCs. Just...Ardyn and Noct tossing Bahamut and the crystal away. Please?
Wishes, commands, all said and done for.
“...and he fucking said that?”
“Word for word my nephew.”
“First off: Rude. Second Off: Bitch.”
“Quite right, it’s almost as if he simply wanted me to just accept his word as law.”
“You’d think a god who’s watched our line for a couple thousand years would learn that we don’t take kindly to being forced to do anything.”
“Well, he’s always had the Oracle line as the gold standard for faithful believers.”
“A standard we never met and never will.” Noctis stated, scoffing at the very notion of such a thing. “I mean YOU had every right to kill my dad that day, and everyone expected it, after realizing that we were your brother’s descendants but all you did was beat the crap outta him.”
“Has he forgiven me yet?” He asked, having forgotten about that minor event.
“He’s contemplating taking advantage of your immortality and stabbing you multiple times in the face but he’s been pretty calm about seeing you.” Noctis replied with a shrug.
Ardyn nodded in understanding. “Ahh, he takes after Somnus in that regard.”
“Funny, I would think it would be from you.” Noctis remarked with a raised eyebrow.
Ardyn simply waved a hand. “Somnus was always the more short tempered one between us, but when it came to someone who really annoyed him, he was a calm as a sleeping forest.”
“Sounds unnerving.”
“It is.”
Noctis tsk’d and shook his head. Placing his hands on his hips, he turned facing the crystal, and focusing on its connection to the draconian. The unconscious bodies of the kingsglaive and crownsguard surrounding him and Ardyn.
“And what do YOU have to say for yourself Dragon god?” Ardyn huffed a laugh and shook his head.
“Perish the idea that he may be forthcoming with answers.”
“Oh I’ll get my answers. If he doesn’t want me to throw this rock he lives in into Leviathan’s waters. Bet she’d hate that.” Ardyn places his hand on Noctis’ shoulder and gave it a squeeze.
“Now now, let’s give the unreasonable reptile impersonator a chance to explain himself.”
“He doesn’t seem to want to talk. Look at him. Just silence.” Noctis clicked his tongue.
“Has he decided to become one with the stone?” Ardyn shook his head.
“That, my nephew, was poor.”
“I know, I’m off my game today.”
“Don’t you think that the God of War deserves some proper disrepect? And yet here you are, saying he’s become one with the stone.”
“I suppose you’re right.”
“Bet that hurt to say.”
“Don’t mock my feelings Ardyn. I’m sensitive.”
“Of course. Now back to our dilemma.”
“Which is?”
“How to get a certain god to admit that what he planned for us was foolish and a waste of time.”
“Never gonna happen.” Noctis huffed. “He would never admit to being wrong.”
Ardyn hummed and crossed his arms, looking at the crystal thoughtfully.
“I suppose we will have to move beyond speaking and go straight for punishment.” Noctis shrugged, and stretched his arms over his head.
“Throw him into the lava on Mt. Ravatogh, I doubt the crystal would be destroyed from something like that.” He paused before clicking his tongue. “Probably.”
“An excellent suggestion. I shall see to the crystals transport.” Ardyn clapped his hands, a bloodthirsty smile on his face.
“Sure you don’t need my help?” Ardyn waves him off.
“Perish such silly thoughts, go enjoy your time with young Prompto.”
“Kay.” Noctis turned and headed towards the door.
“Though...”
“Hm?” Ardyn raised an eyebrow as Noctis slowed to a stop and turned his head to look at him.
“Maybe take the silencing magic off him so we can hear him as he goes under?” Noctis smirked. “Just throwing that out there.”
Ardyn couldn’t help it. He threw his head back and laughed as Noctis walked away.
Truly, his darling nephew was the only good thing his jealous brother ever gave him.
As always, reblog.
