GENERAL ROLEPLAY STYLE & PREFERENCES

TYPES OF ROLEPLAY / HOW I DO THREADS: I don’t. I just do whatever is on my dash when I’m online. mainly asks. I do little short things mostly. I do my threads on discord. long - running threads that slowly build upon the muses.

PLOTTING PREFERENCES: wing it. get a general idea ooc, run with it and plot further if need be. long expansive thought out arcs. ( *depends on my partner and how well we get along ooc and plotting wise )

TYPES OF THREADS I DO / PREFER: one - liners only. whatever dash shenanigans I’m online for. para or multi - para. literal novels.

REPLY SPEED FOR THREADS AND CONSISTENCY KEEPING THREADS: I lose threads all the time and usually get back to them. I tend to lose threads but please tell me if I have and I’ll reply. I drop threads pretty quickly. I’m really slow but I will get back to you. I reply on a schedule / queue. I usually reply within a week. I reply every day. I reply almost instantly.

ROMANTIC OR SEXUAL SHIPS: I don’t do these ships. I’m not against them happening but it is not the main point of my blog. ships will have to be discussed a lot ooc. super chemistry based. I love doing ships, hmu I probably already ship it so just ask. I ship really quickly. autoship or ship within a few interactions. I mainly rp for the cute ship fluff or angsty smut.

SMUT: I do not do smut at all. I’m very selective about it. I only do it on a separate blog / on discord. I mainly only do asks relating to nsfw headcanons on Sundays. I write it a medium amount. I write it all the time and love to. I am comfortable with foreplay and fade - to - blacks but nothing further. ( *only if there’s character development and plot behind it )

ACTIVE HOURS: mornings, 8 – 10. midday, 11 – 1. afternoon, 2 – 5. evenings, 6 – 8. night, 9 – 12. ungodly hours of the day, 1 – onwards.

ACTIVITY SCHEDULE: super slow and sporadic, like once a month or so. slow and sporadic, week - long gaps between activity. bi - weekly ish. weekly activity. daily activity. I’m online nearly all the time. ( *i’m lurking a LOT; if i’m not on here then i’m on one of my other two blogs )

STARTERS: I don’t do starter calls. I want to do starter calls but often don’t have time. I do selective calls. I don’t do calls but always feel free to ask me for one. I post calls rarely, regularly, often. ( *plot with me and i’ll write you the starter!! )

AUS: I don’t do aus. my blog is an au but outside of that I don’t do them.  i sometimes do them but only with a lot of plotting. I have a couple of aus already, feel free to request them. I have aus coming out of my ears, please interact with them. I love making aus, hmu to plot if you think of one. there are some aus I won’t do. (*the character backstories are set in stone; those are not changing  in any shape or form. )

CROSSOVERS: I don’t do crossovers. I’m selective with crossovers. I love crossovers.

Shipping: Geralt is multi ship and pansexual so he’s open to anyone regardless of gender (or lack of) and species.

i’m VERY selective with shipping geralt with triss/ write with triss’ in general because of what she did to him. the fandom has a bad habit about ignoring it and i just can not. this does not mean i won’t write/ship with triss’ but it needs to be acknowledged instead of ignored.

since it was ignored that triss assaulted geralt in the show, show triss’ are safe from mine and geralt’s harsh treatment towards triss, because it’s not their fault. while yes it’s nice to have it acknowledged, a lot of show watchers know nothing about the books, so i will not fault them. 

the only way show triss aren’t safe is if they’re also book based or the show acknowledges it in the future.

🐶 - roleplay-related pet peeve

Okay firstly I had to pick through like five different pet peeves because I have... so many, (someone send me more of these pls...) but I think for this first one I’ll start with...

“Your character is a villain / a bully / evil / abusive, so I’m only going to roleplay/plot with your muse when I want my character to be hurt.”

I cannot stand this. 

My muses are not your personal punching bag.

Will I simplify my muses down to make them ‘do-nothing-wrong-soft-boys’? No, of course not. They aren’t good people. Palmer’s not a good person. The Brandon I run over at @jaggedpass isn’t a good person. I’m not going make them perfect people - this is roleplay, this is fiction, I’ll write them how I’d like to.

This isn’t to say that I won’t have my characters insult yours, mock yours, or hurt yours.

“My muses are not your personal punching bag" just means I don’t want my character to be constantly completely vilified, only brought up and used when someone wants something bad to happen to their muses.

It means that I don’t want other people deciding whether or not my characters are abusive, or would do something evil, even if they are villains.

Don’t come at me saying “We should write a thread where Palmer finds out Barry is gay and insults him over it until he cries”. You’re assuming that he would do that, you’re not giving me room to give my own input.

Do come to me asking questions - “What does Palmer think about other gay people?” “Would he ever be discriminatory towards another gay person?” “What would he think if he found out Barry was gay?” It leaves it open for me to give my own input so we can work together to come up with a plot.

Yes, sometimes people are rude for the sake of being rude. Sometimes villains are evil for the sake of being evil. But if you’re only approaching me when you want your muse to be hurt, and you show no interest in my muse beyond that and don’t seek out my own input on the idea, I’m going to get a bit ticked.

When that happens, my muse simply becomes a decoration for yours. Not a character with their own emotions and motivations, but merely a device for your character to be sad. It means I have to roleplay the same exact interaction over and over again, of my character being completely evil with no nuance - any attempts for me to make my character three-dimensional or dynamic are shoved aside because someone wants my muse to call them a slur again.

And yes, that’s happened to me before.

I would have people on Discord who would come into my DMs and try to make my muses discriminate against them - they would never show any interest in my characters unless my characters could do something to hurt theirs iredeemably.

“Hey, you should have Palmer say there are only two genders to my muse and mock them for being non-binary.” ...Okay but why? “BTW you can have Saturn make fun of my muse’s autism.” Why would my neurodivergent character make fun of your muse for being autistic? “Thorton should mock my muse for being gay.” Why would he?

( Of course, these are just examples, but you get the idea. )

There’s never a reason for it except to cause their muse misery.

What do I get out of my character insulting yours? 

How can I use that to advance my character? 

Do you see my character as a character, or simply a button you can press for muse angst?

I follow people because I want to write with them, or because I want to read their writing, and to be blunt I generally don’t care about aesthetic posts when I’ve got a dozen of them on my dash in a row and you’re not reblogging anything I can actually interact with. how do you get into roleplaying on a ff server? like how do you do it and how do you know if your character is lore compliant? ;A; pls youre a big inspo to me

*Hugs Nonny* Getting into RP on a FF server can vary; I don’t actually RP much these days, outside of some friends I already have connections to--and that in itself can be difficult just due to Life! It can take time, and patience, and some fits and starts.

And this gets...really really long, so buckle up and go below the cut, please. :)

In game there’s always the RP status tag, and just doing RP with folks in public spaces. There may be trolls now and then, but they can be ignored. I personally find Balmung’s Quicksand area too busy and anxiety inducing and not actually all that conducive to actual RP, even “meet at a tavern” walk-up type. But unless you already have a ready-made group of friends/FCmates willing to RP more than some random walk-ups with you, it may take some legwork to find folks you can and want to write with.

Social Media There are a couple of RP community blogs, like @mooglemeet​ and @ffxiv-crystal-rp​  and plenty of server-specific ones. There’s also some Discords for these communities. They host and advertise events and reblog people who are looking for RP contacts. Some of them have running gdoc calendars and in game linkshells and fellowships as well.

Shofie has a good post about Tumblr/social media RP blogging.

It’s a fact now that social media outside game is a way to make contacts, or even a medium for RP itself. There are few centralized websites/forums for server RP communities anymore. Making connections over your social media, like Tumblr and Twitter, can help find RP. You can’t just throw your own character info out there or reblog prompts hoping others bite, though; you have to put in some work and show interest in others, too. This can be difficult and even scary. That’s OK.

RP is about collaboration and creating with other people, which means finding folks you can write with, and who see you as someone interesting but also interested in them and their OCs. If you want to keep it a solo endeavor focused on your own OCs, write fanfic (which I’ve actually made friends and gotten RP interests that way too through comment interactions, so hey).

If you reblog a prompt from someone, see others on your dash reblogging prompts, if people reblog that prompt post from you? Send them asks! Alternatively, don’t wait for prompts, just send asks, comments, or chats saying hello and things you notice or like about their blog/character/posts they make. Try to form connections with people you think are genuinely interesting and might be fun to talk with. Social media should be, well, social.

BUT respect boundaries, too. Don’t try sarcasm or jokes with people you don’t actually know, it tends to go over poorly. Unless someone’s specifically posting a naughty meme/prompt, keep stuff you others send clean and polite, especially if it’s unsolicited and you’re not already friends (doubly so if you don’t know how old they are IRL, there are laws you do not want to break). Respect if people aren’t open to random asks or chatting with new followers, or say “no” to RP, and know it’s not personal--it’s just what they have time, energy, and emotional/mental capacity for. Don’t give up on other people, though. This stuff can take time and effort to find those you click with.

Respect and communication with RP partners is pretty key.

Do curate your feeds and don’t be afraid to unfollow/mute/block folks, either. I’m selective in who I follow and remove as needed, too, for my own mental health. I miss so much of the discourse and drama and that’s fine by me. Also it costs nothing to not step in on a lot of the drama when it does pass in sight.

Profiles I have static RP profile pages for my girls here on Tumblr (and a lot of other static links and pages, but I’m weird about organizing like that). This way, if people want to write with me, send me prompts, if I sent them prompts, or they want to otherwise interact with my characters, the information is handily available. For some folks, this makes all the difference in who they choose to interact with: how easily can they find even basic info about your OC?

Some people make Carrds. Some folks have gdoc links, or use Dreamwidth, etc. Just keep the links in the blog’s sidebar menu, and/or in the blog desc so people can see ‘em on mobile. There are templates out there, or you can make your own. Feel free to snag mine if you’d like. A lot of times people also copy their profiles to rebloggable posts when looking for RP contacts. Profiles are a good way to let folks know just the at-a-glance basics about your character(s).

I picked a simple theme with a simple layout that makes it easy to add and show off links. I put them in the blog desc to make them easy to find on mobile, too.

RP, Stories, Lore Post some stories or RP logs (with permission of others involved) or even just random little blurbs and headcanons, as well as any screenshots, art, aesthetic posts for your OCs. Have something of interest to show for your character, too, so some of those folks your interacting with have something of their own to see and ask about!

If possible, try some light RP with friends and FC Mates who are amenable. Go to events, even if just to lurk at first. When you do get up the nerve to talk to people, don’t try to throw a character’s entire backstory at them, or try to steal the limelight--RP is collaboration, back and forth, and a lot like real conversation. Maybe come up with little light things to talk about if asked; a recent adventuring job, a silly shopping incident, etc. They can break the ice or just give you something to reply with for a few minutes.

Lore Compliance is Variable. Some people really want lore compliance, others are OK bending it here and there, while still others throw it out the window entirely. If you want to be super lore compliant...read. There’s a LOT of information, in game and out, for finding lore; from official publications and website material, to tools like Garland Tools site, to compilation blogs like @mirkemenagerie.

Note what’s important for your concept. Narrow it down. Characters aren’t going to know or be or do everything, so only worry about what’s necessary for the base idea. And be flexible; it’s SE’s sandbox, we just play in it, and they can change things any time. They usually do it in the guise of characters not knowing/having all the correct information, at least, but also some places just don’t exist in game yet so we don’t have info.

I’m unspecific about a lot of elements of Aeryn’s childhood, for instance, other than “traveling merchants near Thavnair.” I don’t have to be super specific. I can keep most details vague, and focus on her family and those relationships.

Dark, as my first character, has a fairly simple backstory that I’ve expanded on and adjusted over time as I learned and came up with new info. I also bet no one remembers I originally said Dark was from the North Shroud. I’ve changed things (now from East Shroud, due to the proximity to Gyr Abania and its Hellsguards) as I learned more about the world and my character. You don’t want to change things willy-nilly, but sometimes being flexible and smoothing down some rough edges and making small changes can be fine, especially as one gets more lore over time.

Iyna has a pretty detailed backstory, that came from a basic idea, and checking dates in the pre-Calamity timeline. I based her being taken and trained the way she was not only on what info we have about Garlemald’s imperial practices with conquered provinces, but borrowed a bit from real life and the re-education schools many Native Americans were forced into (though I haven’t gone into detail on that yet, either). I tied the turning point in Iyna’s life to a major event that wasn’t the Calamity, and have left plenty of space in between for me to fill in as time goes on and I learn more about her and the world.

The world isn’t static, and is bigger and more diverse than what can be shown in the game. There’s space in the margins for plenty of weird stuff and contradictions or unusual cases. So read up on what you can, ask questions, and then find where in those spaces your OC fits. Then, find people who enjoy similar tastes in lore compliance (or non-compliance), and who enjoy playing with you and your OCs, and not worrying about the rest. Can’t please everyone, nor get along with everyone, so don’t try; just find what works for you, and who works with you, and don’t police anyone else’s pretendy fun times, either.

There’s no magic answer on the “right” amount of lore compliance, or how to quickly and easily find RP partners or break into the broader RP community.

probably the food fair this year,, my group of best friends were supposed to go there to celebrate jane and another friend’s birthday. the food fair happens yearly so it wasn’t anything big to anyone else, but to us it was something special. there are a lot more things but this was one of the major things she ruined :/

HOW I RUN MY BLOG.

SPEED:  My speed can vary depending on my muse for a particular thread, but unless stated otherwise, I will reply to a thread no longer than a week. If it has been over a week, then I a) lost the thread b) my tracker borked c) forgot to hit ‘post’. 

REPLIES: As stated above, I try to reply to my role plays within a week, although more often than not I respond within a day. If you see that I have responded to someone’s thread multiple times but not yours, it just means I have a good muse for it at the time. It does not mean I like you, or our thread any less.  If I have not responded within a week, this is your invitation to message me on Tumblr or on my discord. So many threads have been eaten by the void and it can be hard for me to keep track of them all.  Replies range from 2-5 paragraphs. Rarely do replies grow longer (but they do on occasion). I do not mind shorter replies, but if I have spent a good afternoon making something nice, it is not encouraging to receive the role play equivalent of ‘k’. Small note: If a thread has not been responded to in over a month, I do untrack it from my thread tracker. I would keep it forever, but due to Tumblr changes, there are only so many threads I can track at a time. This does not mean I have dropped the thread. It just means I may need a quick message that you are still interested in the thread. 

STARTERS: You wanna write me a starter? With or without plotting I am 10000% cool if we are mutuals. And if we are not, it does not mean I do not wish to interact with you. I do not pay attention to my notifications, so I am not always aware of new follows. You are always welcome to come into my messages and be like: “YUKA PLS I DESIRE THE THREADS”. I don’t scare easy :) If you are not comfortable writing starters, I am more than happy to make one. While I do not make starters out of the blue, I will if requested. (( The time has come for me to post something for the end of the year, and it’s gonna be long. Let me tell you all about my 2019 under a read more. ))

To start off, my 2019 has been so full of real life ups and downs, it’s maddening. Right now I’m in a terrible point in my 2019 but there are some good things too. I’m not really here to talk about real life though. I’m here to share my thoughts on this RPC and it’s people as the year comes to a close.

This RPC has been the most amazing one I’ve ever been a part of. For a long time I was in the Sonic RPC, technically still am, but I have so little desire to go to that muse it’s insane. Six is very like me, though we certainly have our differences, and being here with her is like being watched over by an old friend. I come here every day, my dashboard is always open somewhere, and I read as many posts as I can by all of you every day. You’re all so interesting and special and I’m glad to be here, even if it hasn’t been long.

So now, I’m gonna talk about a few people individually.

@silentchamp​ - You’re where it all started. You reminded me of my love for this RPC, a place I hadn’t been in years. You stuck with me and even plotted a thread on my Sonic OC muse, who now I don’t even touch. I love your writing so much and your Red as I’ve told you before is absolutely how I’ve always seen Red. I love you, your muse, and I can never thank you enough for being the one to get me back into this RPC, even if you didn’t intend to hahahaha.

@tenebres-champ​ - You were one of the first people I followed here, and now I follow all your muses I know about. I love them so much, your writing style, and just you. Streli is incredible and her and Six’s dynamic gives me life. The idea that Streli is helping Six grow, helping her overcome an addiction that’s been crippling her in ways she couldn’t understand, it’s interactions like this I crave, and I want to keep doing it into 2020. Your muse is amazing and you’re just as incredible Nox, your art is beautiful and something I can’t get enough of. Not to mention you’re kind and funny, and I never thought being threatened to get my discord would be the best way someone has wanted to become further friends with me, but here we are.

@flcmedriven​ - Following you has been such a huge treat, your writing is amazing, and your muse is spot on. I love Kabu so much, and more than anything I love KaNu so much. I love reading your threads with people, and your art is also incredible. OOC too, you’ve been so kind. @decadnce​ - We’ve literally like NEVER talked, or at least not much but your posts give me life and I love them so much, IC or OOC. I hope to see you around my dash more, and I can’t wait to see more of that Hop muse. 

@yankeead​ - I love Tasuku so fucking much and I so badly want to see Six piss him off and get her ass beat because she’s stupid, but then them also become friends. You and your muse make me laugh a lot and I love seeing you on my dash, you’re super funny and talented and I hope I get to know you more in 2020.

@pinkrival​ - Bede is such a good muse and you capture him so perfectly. I hope Six and Bede become partners in crime, because she will totally provide him with liquor lmao. Also, I really adore your formatting and icons. They’re super fitting and they just are super pleasing to see on my dash. I can’t wait to interact more with you and see our two little shits get into so much trouble together. 

@dechlach​ - I started off by following you on your Milo blog, but I’ve come to follow you on all your muses. You were also one of the first people I ever followed here, and you’ve been incredibly kind. I love our talks OOC and I’m really happy to see you enjoy your muses so much, because I can tell you for certain I enjoy them loads. Bug, you’ve been someone to really help me get into this RPC and I can’t wait to interact with you some more in 2020, because you’re amazing. Also, Gordie and Streli? @haematophiliac​ - We’ve been stalking each other from the sidelines and we both know it, we’ve only interacted OOC but I really would love to see our muses meet soon, your writing and art are fantastic, your muse is awesome, and the support you give is incredible. While we haven’t talked a whole lot you’ve been terribly kind and I’m so happy I get to follow you. Here’s to 2020.
