So, okay, a big part of the reason I've been so absent of late is that I've been in the throes of moving.

There was a whole ordeal with my landlord trying to illegally terminate my lease at the beginning of the year, that lining up with being ready to buy a place anyway, finding a really great house almost immediately, having an offer accepted, then finding out it had some secret catastrophic issues, and then having to back out of a contract and start the process all over again. It was stressful. It's behind us. We found a better spot. Cute neighborhood, big yard, and most importantly no severe issues that might render a house unliveable and uninsurable. Also it has grounded outlets, which isn't a thing I was previously aware I should be looking for because we are currently living in the year 2025, but I guess folks out here have been getting by with nothing but two-prongs and making the best of it. More (ungrounded) power to them, I guess.

Anyway for the last couple of weekends I've been getting things set up at the new place and preparing to move into my new Snake Room. Here's what it looked like on Day 0:

My plan is to pull carpet, yeet the closet doors and turn the closet into a desk/ship station/incubator space, and paint before bringing in cages. I'll share my progress and maybe do a little crowdsourcing for ideas.

This is being juggled with work and school and it's been a challenge but, like, also a huge relief. I'm very much a high-site-fidelity creature and moving from impermanent dwelling to impermanent dwelling has been a huge mental health burden.

For the first time in almost 20 years, I'm home.

also i stayed in a hotel for the night because the drive to the show was like ~5 hours, so couldn't just come straight back after the show and i was almost sentenced to death, because in the room, there was like a little bedside radio / alarm clock setup, and it was putting out the most awful, subtle-until-you-notice-it electrical feedback noise

it is probably exemplative of something that i have this one class this semester that's in this fancy new building in this fancy new room with fancy new tables that all have built in electrical outlets so you can charge your laptop. and there are like 50 tables in here with those things. and none of them work. some of them aren't even plugged in, but even the ones that are plugged in (to the fancy floor outlets designed for this purpose) don't work. and this class is 5 hours long. so we are all circulating through the 3 actual wall outlets like some sort of very slow computer charge related relay race

The kitchen is done & I have finally taken some pictures. Images on the left are from our initial house viewing (rows 1 & 2) or from the kichen right before we tore it out. Removing those stunted Ls on the ends of the galley has made the kitchen much better. Somehow we have more cupboard space and more floor space, which probably indicates that the original kitchen was cursed.

Long-suffering mutuals who know that yellow is not my favorite color might wonder about the yellow cabinets. We decided it was the best light-ish color that also looked good with the dark wood counters. Cream was too plain and too light (and inevitably filthy on lower cabinets), green was either too dark or too pasty, grey was dreary, brown also dreary, orange looked mental (as did red), the available blues didn't go with the stove, etc. etc. until I was like 'yes, sure, yellow OK whatever I give up.'

Vaguely trying to imagine what Vox's room at the hotel would look like. He's not in there very often, so it's mostly just the standard look, but it's also where he dumps all the things he deicides he wants to hold on to. Weird little bug creations Niffty’s made for him, random pieces of technology from his work with Pentious, fidget toys that he keeps forgetting to return to the group therapy box... It's very messy and most of the stuff just sits there, untouched, but it's undeniably his.

If you mess with somebody's mobility/life-preserving aid and all you got was yelled at by the disabled person in question, just know you got off easy. Fucking with somebody's aid can easily become a matter of life-or-death, so you have to understand why somebody would "lash out" about that.

Germany is known for its high quality cars, and multiple German car companies started during the Nazi regime. Henry Ford was basically a Nazi and Ford makes decent cars.
