also i stayed in a hotel for the night because the drive to the show was like ~5 hours, so couldn't just come straight back after the show and i was almost sentenced to death, because in the room, there was like a little bedside radio / alarm clock setup, and it was putting out the most awful, subtle-until-you-notice-it electrical feedback noise
#just a high pitched buzzing whining sound#righttt by the bed#and it was like oh no problem we'll unplug it#but for like... theft-reduction? the plug was not accessible to me at all#and it didn't have a two way plug. like the wire didn't detach from the wall AND detach from the clock#we had to summon the help of the like. What else would you call a fan of Richard III writing fictional stories about him, other than a fanfic? 🤔 That's like people who say celebrities didn't exist before the Industrial Revolution and the creation of radios & tv. Which is total BS.
YES, modern media revolutionized the way we access/consume & circulate creative works like fanfic & fanart. And sure, the human inclination to categorize & label every frikkin thing impacted how we've come to identify & codify said works. But that doesn't mean modern society created fanfiction as a concept, even if things like the internet, mass marketing, and even literacy rates definitely broadened how we as a community engage with art & e/o.
IMO the only difference between fanfiction & religious texts or Shakespeare is the level of power/influence/respect an institutionally-sanctioned text can have, compared to a story posted as a recreational hobby/creative outlet. I think a lot of the pushback comes from connotations about hella serious works like religious texts, vs uber-respected works like Shakespeare, vs more frivolous(?) works like fanfiction. But I don't think they're as distinct as it's being made to seem.
Like, yes, there's the divine right of kings; but fandoms are cults (e.g.: cult classic movies, books, etc; X X X X X X X), and monarchs 100% have cults of personality. Folks have been invested in the lives of popular figures since forever ago. Not even the divine right of kings kept monarchs (hell, even popes!) safe from people gossiping, spreading stories/rumors, satire, making up all kinds of stuff about them--headcanons, etc. Same way there are modern celebrity fandoms--people even ship band members & actors together who are verifiably NOT a couple. Look at the INTRIGUE surrounding Versailles, and the MASSIVE cultural impact that the lives of the Sun King's Court had on the popular imagination (even in his own time!)--from Dumas (Man in the Iron Mask, Musketeers, etc), to La Voison, all the way down to the Scarlet Pimpernel (Louis 15 not 14 but you get what I mean), and Monchevy--all involving the lovers & love-lives of kings (which is a big deal in a hereditary monarchy surrounded by a sycophantic Court (fans/posse/entourage/groupies/etc).
And when your king is tantamount to a god (i.e.: divine kingship, priest-kings, no separation of church & state), then ofc religion can be seen as a type of fandom, with religious texts being tantamount to fanfiction--or vice versa (depending on the text's impact).
Look at the oldest story on the frikkin planet: the Epic of Gilgamesh, a (fan)fictional account of a (quasi?)historical king. He was an idolized hero--a popular local/international celebrity, and a cult was built around him that included the creation of multiple stories by all kinds of people, of which the EoG is just the biggest & best preserved--in which the author denied that he'd become an immortal god. Other writers disagreed, and said Gilgamesh really was deified. The lines between CANON & FANON blurred, to the point that we don't really know if he was a real or fictional dude. But people wrote all kinds of stories about him for THOUSANDS of years! He had the world's earliest known literary fandom, that exists to this day!
Sectarianism & schisms occur when the CANON is disputed--literal wars start over people not agreeing with peoples' interpretations or takes. FANON can lead to the Mandela Effect, which can even affect the REAL canon if certain ideas gets picked up by people with enough influence to turn fanon into the new canon.
Look at Plutarch & Shakespeare's "biographies," which we often treat as legit history--the lives of Alexander the Great (which started an entire genre of "Romances"), Julius Caesar, Antony & Cleopatra, King Henry & Richard etcetc. That was straight up fanfiction, but it's so dang OLD that everyone knows these stories/"histories", and we have a hard time separating fact from fiction cuz we just weren't there; and archaeological/textual evidence can only tell us so much.
Look at the history of theatre, and the way playwrights & rhapsodes & griots & skalds & bards retell events for entertainment, but are also relied upon as historians who orally preserve information that is treated as fact. It often recounted a religious story about a culture's gods, the origins of popular cult(ure) practices, folklore, and legendary/historical events & figures--look at the way Greek theatre emerged from worship of Dionysus (plays like the Bacchae and the Frogs are literal fanfiction versions of the Dionysus myth). Look at Japan's kabuki, and its creation by a miko (shrine maiden) who performed Buddhist dances. In many ancient cultures, theatre was a RELIGIOUS performance art. These were held as fun & funny performances & art, but also dead serious. We laugh at Jaskier/Dandelion's antics on The Witcher, and how skewed his songs are, but also look at the HUGE fanbase he has, where even kings and actual historians look to his songs as legit information when really they're just fanfiction.
Speaking of singers--look at Star Trek TOS, and all the DECADES of speculation behind Spock & Uhura being a couple, before someone with influence & power finally went for it and made fanon into canon in the 2009 reboot.
Look at the Church of Scientology--which started as LITERAL (fan)fiction, before celebrities turned it into this big ole thing that some people actually take seriously 🤣, treating it as an actual religion. (They have a whole parasocial relationship with Hubbard, I can't even.)
The professional/monetary aspect of fiction (as Art™) vs fanfiction is important too. Terms like Intellectual Property, Transformative Work, and Copyright are new--imitation is the greatest form of flattery, but also the quickest way to a lawsuit nowadays. A lot of folk use "fanfiction" pejoratively (thanks, My Immortal, for giving fics a bad name), to demean its quality. Some literati get offended by even using Shakespeare and Fanfiction in the same sentence, like, blasphemy! 🤢🤮 But there are PLENTY of fanfic authors out there who write WAY better than some Pulitzer authors! Ao3 even won a Hugo award. But because fanfiction is transformative, the legality of publishing or getting monetary compensation for writings fics is a slippery slope, even with some fic authors successfully getting their work published (50 Shades, Shadowhunters, etc). Who cares that Virgil ripped off Homer, and Shakespeare ripped off Ovid?! God forbid you rip off GRRM or *boss music starts* Anne Rice! 💀 (And the WILDEST irony is that after making SUCH a stink about fanfic authors touching her work, Anne Rice sold the rights to ALL of her books to AMC, whose tv adaptations have sometimes been called fanfiction! 🤣 And look how many THEATRE KIDS make up the cast of Interview with the Vampire--and the triple irony wrt Lestat's origin story and the creation of the Theatre des Vampires!)
So really, all it takes is someone powerful & influential enough to reinvent the wheel and turn (fan)fiction into high art, a story into history, fandom into cult/religion, and fanon into canon.
My least favourite type of internet person is the person who claims fanfic is over thousands of years old or whatever. I understand we like to joke but fanfiction is fundamentally tied to fandom culture and is a very specific way of engaging with media. Religious texts based off other religious texts is not fanfiction and it is worrying the only way you can justify your interest is by comparing the two. I promise you you don't have to reinvent the wheel to write fanfic you can just do that but we don't have to say "Shakespeare wrote fanfiction about Richard III", there was not a Richard III fandom in 1592, that was called the divine right of kings.
#fanfiction#fandoms#religion#shakespeare#anne rice#greek mythology#the witcher#since OP showed their maturity by blocking me i'll just say in the tags that#this is not me tryna “justify” anyone liking fanfiction#or propping up fanfiction by equating it to shakespeare & religion#it's about how FANON and CANON can become so intertwined that one leads/bleeds into the other#and how anything that has a large powerful and influential enough backing (patrons etc) can become fact/history/religious canon in time#and gain enough clout that it becomes a respected medium (e.g.: Ao3's Hugo award)#and fandoms ARE cults as the various article links I provided will demonstrate#you're the one who brought up weird examples like shakespeare & king richard & the divine right of kings#and then don't wanna have a serious conversation about how religion politics and literature/theatre are interlinked????#and your reblog about the protestant/catholic wars was literally rooted in exactly what I'd already said: disagreements about CANON#read a dang history book

It's Trans Day of Visibility!
Being trans is very tedious. It's mostly sitting around waiting for doctors to telephone you, and fretting about the angle of body-features that nobody but you will ever notice. Mixed in with the constant ambient self-monitoring of "oh dang, am I transgendering correctly right now? while I am stood in the kitchen making my toast?". Meanwhile, every three days, a major media outlet will run a story on how permitting people to correct a straightforward hormone-imbalance is the End of Days , and must be prevented at all costs.
You move through the world as #1 Threat to the Fabric of Society whenever you go to the shops, and it's dangerous and unwanted and awful; until you want to (say, if you're going out to a bar and want to feel like you're the Harbinger Of Civilization's Ruin in a sexy way), and then you find you cannot do it, and you are instead a weird person in ill-fitting clothes, and difficulty relating to people who did not need to wait seven years and get the permission of eight doctors to, say, wear a beard in public.
It's losing control of your own body in some of the most profound ways imaginable, while lovely professional people tell you it's for your own good. It's being left to your own devices so long that the radical disintegration of gender begins to make sense, and you end up asserting "I am a man so this must be a male body!" for a bemused audience who have never had to reckon with how being denied bodily autonomy warps your sense of self; and the growing discomfort of being forcibly genderqueered by a medical institution who will simultaneously block your timely access to the straightforward binary transition you wanted as a teenager, but will also punish you for an increasingly genderqueer presentation that has developed as a result.
You spend a lot of time with professionals who struggle with any updates to masculinity made since 1953; and will punish you for not looking like a Mormon on mission. It's bearing the brunt of what society tried to do to gay people - but failed, when everyone realised no number of laws or terror could stop people shagging; but this, they can control, and so they do.
It's being required to do deliberate damage to your body and endure danger in social life, as a prerequisite to accessing basic, compassionate and dignified healthcare.
Your existence is both salacious and dull. After a while, you start wishing that perhaps you could transition to a hawthorn tree instead, or a large quiet mountain, and bother nobody.

Can I ask for Fluff 38 with the Traffic Light Trio? (You are killing these prompts! They are all great!)
Thank you so much! I've been having a blast with them, they're giving me a great outlet for all the creative energy I've had locked up.
“You owe me.” “Fine, whatever you like.”
Logically Red Son knew they weren't being serious. In his conscious brain he knew MK and Mei didn't actually think he owed them anything for giving him somewhere to stay (and Sandy, given it was his property that technically housed the secret hideout) after defecting from his parents (and that was a very interesting experience, explaining that no they would not just storm the hideout if they knew he was there because that was not how proper demons convinced their children to return home).
But there was a teeny tiny loud ass voice in the back of his head that kept yelling at him that he needed to pay them back. That was just how it went, someone did you a life altering favor and you were in their debt until they deemed it paid in full.
That's why when MK and Mei had jokingly said "You owe me" in unison, his instant response was "Fine, whatever you like".
It was immediately very awkward, MK growing flustered and insisting he didn't need to get them anything and Mei agreeing with him. He could have sworn he heard her mutter something like "is this how it felt for MK", but he felt he needed more context for this before he could unpack that line of thinking. They insisted he owed them nothing except to maybe not light everything on fire (he promised he would not).
It was that night that he realized either he greatly underestimated the differences between human and demon customs... or his own experiences with other demons were skewed. Or both.
Probably both.
Still, they had done so much for him. All of them, really, between the duo and their friends. Given him a place to stay, food, old books and movies, even more casual clothes (he took special note that they were all brand new). All for free with no strings attached. Because "it's what was right to do". Sure, he was used to getting things for free. He was evil until last week, sort of. Either people gave him things out of fear or he stole them... despite the fact he was rich enough to buy nearly anything he wanted. Being given things out of good will was... Different. It reminded him of another time he tried not to think about too often (maybe he should start to though).
So regardless of what they said, Red Son felt he owed them. And also regardless of what they said he would pay them back. He knew they wouldn't accept anything he purchased for them... not directly anyway.
That's why he was standing in Sandy's kitchen, cats meowing and rubbing against him and running around his feet as he peeled the next batch of expensive shrimp he was getting ready to fry. He may have "accidentally" allowed a few cooked pieces to fall to the floor and made sure a different cat got a bite each time.
Sandy didn't say anything if he noticed. (He definitely noticed.)
He may not be on speaking terms with his parents currently, but for reasons almost certainly related to convincing him he was welcome home when he bored of his rebellion they allowed him continued access to his funds. There was no reason not to let them know he was spending hundreds to thousands of yuan on high quality and expensive ingredients as his usual taste had always been rather high scale. So what if he maybe possibly added a few ingredients he personally couldn't stand. For all they knew he was being adventurous, he'd always been picky enough with food quality that he insisted on preparing 98% of all of his meals.
No, it was just that Mei really liked bitter melon and dang it she was going to get bitter melon! MK loved kiwis and he was going to get a damn kiwi! They didn't need to know they were funding gourmet dinners for their enemies. And as a bonus, Red Son would prepare this food and given he was paying them back in time the duo could not possibly give that back and would have to accept his repayment.
It was the perfect evil-but-not-evil plan.
(It was not, in fact, perfect. But it was pretty close and he almost broke his promise when the praise the two had for his cooking caused him to light ablaze in unforeseen embarrassment. Apparently more than two genuine compliments was not something he was actually equipped to handle. It's a good thing Sandy lived in a boat.)

Avoiding Writer Burnout
We've all been there. You get really excited about a project, write to it non-stop, then somehow days, weeks, or even months go by and you realize you've lost passion and enthusiasm for your work. And you've worked so HARD on it.
I get it. It recently happened to me.
Here are a few tips that have helped me get through rough patches so you can avoid that dreaded Writer Burnout.
No. 1: Take Breaks. This is a BIG one. I don't know about you, but when I get going on a writing project, breaks aren't automatically on my mind when I sit down at the computer. My goal tends to be: WRITE. This isn't a healthy way to look at writing which is why I suggest routinely taking breaks while working during long stretches. I find getting up after a scene or halfway between a chapter to do something else (even just to refill my water or grab a matcha latte), is enough to give my brain (and eyes) a break from staring at the computer screen for too long. It's good for you, and I promise you, your story is still going to be there when you get back.
If it helps, set a timer on your phone to go off every hour to remind you to stand up, stretch, crack your neck, and get your butt out of that chair, even if it's only for a minute. I realize many of you fiercely protect your writing time, but I have found more frequent breaks actually makes me MORE productive. Try it out. Your body will thank you. And refuel on that caffeine while you're at it.
No 2: Take Notes. Lots and LOTS of Notes. When I really get into a project, I have everything in my head lined up perfectly. I will take some notes, but I often find not enough. This can be an issue later when I might be returning to a project after a few days break or months. So do yourself a favor and take plenty of notes in the beginning. Heck, I wholeheartedly encourage you to sit down at your computer or with a pen and notebook and writewritewrite about everything you can think of about your story. Character details, bits of dialogue, world-building questions, plot possibilities. EVERYTHING.
I keep a separate notebook for each writing project I have, often several notebooks as ideas grow. This helps me stay organized, and I'm easily able to access and refresh my knowledge of worlds and plots when I'm been away or consumed in another story for X amount of time. If you're like me and enjoy discussing your ideas with others, and/or just find better flow with speaking out loud (hey, whatever helps!), I recommend getting a digital recorder. I bought one of these beauties a few months back after Susan Dennard did a newsletter covering diction (HERE--You should check her site out if you haven't already. Amazing author and invaluable writing resources). I haven't looked back when it comes to note-taking. It has encouraged ideas to flow easily, and the handy part is you can replay hours of discussion and take notes after. I often have even more ideas during my times listening to conversations. I highly recommend this method if you find it hard to take notes without cramping your brain flow. I also utilize the Notes app on my phone. Smartnote and Evernote are two great options if you'd like to sync content between devices. Especially when an idea hits you as you’re falling asleep. :P
No. 3: Try writing somewhere different. Okay, I'm not as great with this one. I have my nice cozy office that is set up for my writing needs. I struggle to write outside of this writer haven because it's so dang perfect. But it helps reduce distractions if you write outside your comfort zone, even if this is only venturing as far as your patio and getting some fresh air while you log your word count (I hear it's spring in other non-desert states :P). I'm not telling you to get crazy here, just to try something different to break the repetitive cycle that can lead to stress and the dreaded burnout. This can be your local library, coffee shop, or even a park. If you're really prone to distractions ala the internet, you might even want to venture to places without wi-fi. (Gasp! I know, I said it. I'm evil.) The point is to change things up frequently enough to trick your brain into being productive when it might not want to be. Added bonus: you get to people-watch when you leave your home and write somewhere different.
No. 4: Read a book. If you're really having a hard time sticking to your project, books can help with the solution. I like to pick titles that are similar to what I might be currently writing (epic fantasy, urban fantasy, contemporary, sci-fi, you get it). This helps me two-fold: by letting me familiarize myself with what's in the current market for the type of book I am writing and what content/plots already exist, and as means for inspiration. I don't know about you, but when I read a really good book that unexpectedly sweeps me away (Hello, Victoria Schwab), I get riled up and inspired to WRITE. I mean, we all started out writing because we loved books. We wouldn't be pursuing our hobbies or dreams of improving our craft if we didn't, ammiright? Books are an amazing outlet of escape. They always help calm my stress, give my brain a break from my own work (see this recurring theme?), and remind me that what I'm striving toward (getting traditionally published), is possible, because right there in my hands is an author who has been through it all (and possibly more) than I have with writing. Like I said, inspiring.
No. 5: Schedule writing time. Write for one hour a day during a certain time each day. Or make it two hours. Just set yourself the task of chipping away at your manuscript without overdoing it. I started doing this when I read an article on Sarah Dessen (bestselling author or YA contemporary titles like The Truth About Forever and Saint Anything). She writes from 3-5pm every single day. Breaking it up gives you time to split the rest of your day doing things you love or need to (like work, dinner, caring for kids, adulting). But slotting your writing time helps create balance which is really what you should strive for in an effective and productive writing routine. Here's the article if you're curious about how Dessen has written 13 successful novels with a 14th on the way this June.
No. 6: Take a longer break. Now, sometimes no matter what you do, the words just won't flow and you are miserable working on your current WIP. In this case, might I suggest you step away for a bit. By this I mean, take a mini vacation from writing. Now before you harp me for suggesting not to write when common advice is to sit your butt down and just write anyway, hear me out: it's okay not to be writing. Let me put it this way, you're a writer even if you're not writing every single day. You're a writer if all you can manage is 100 words in a day, a week, a month. The point is, your life shouldn't be only about writing. Life is about balance, and if you overextend yourself or do too much you will burn out. Trust me on this one. So before you hurl your computer/notebook/current WIP across the room or out the window, remind yourself you can step away. I have taken writer hiatuses as long as six weeks for various reasons--re-outlining, stress, life crises, and to avoid scrapping an idea. There is no set amount of time to take off. Find what works for you. I often find that I get an itch, for lack of a better word, and I want to write again. It could be only one day or three, or more, months. Take as long as you need. Your story will be waiting for you when you return. I promise.
No. 7: Whatever you do, DO NOT give up.. Take the break if you need to, but make sure you come back to it. I don't know how to reiterate this enough. If you let yourself give up on your project you will never finish it and it will hang over your head. It's easy to tuck that WIP away when the going gets tough--I've done it, we ALL have--but make sure you return to it and see it through. I really like to make Vision Lists to help me recapture the enthusiasm and passion I have for a project when it's fizzled out. Sometimes this is all you need. A piece of paper and a pen and time to list all the things you want in your story, all the things you love about it, why you want to write it. This helps keep you focused to avoid the dangerous Shiny New Idea Syndrome that can kill an idea and guarantee you won't finish your WIP.
Here are some journal prompts to and help get your passion and motivation flowing once more: -Why am I writing this story? -What do I love about it? -Why is my main character important to me? -Why is the story I story I want to tell important to me? Jon Acuff talks about finishing goals in his book Finish. Pick it up for motivation if you need it!
How do you handle burnout? I'd love to hear in the comments below!

Start of Wrestling Community United Against Toxic Behavior Online?
Hi Everybody, This is Spudz,
Some might remember me from myspace & early years of facebook & twitter I use to run the Wrestling Fans Against Posers On Myspace (WFAPOM), Wrestling Fans Against Posers On Social Networks(WFAPOSN) on facebook & twitter accounts, almost forgot tumblr too.
Posers as in those that catfish/posed others as wrestlers & others talent in the wrestling business. I regularly updated listings of those real & those ones that were posers, both became quite large. In Late 2011, I burned out after after several years running the accounts, Early 2012 i posted I had lost my passion to update and started to move on & do other stuff with my free time, besides posting on 1 message board, the name Spudz disappeared from the online social media world and I had no plans to ever reappear until yesterday, when I realize there was a new cause worth coming back for to try make things better.
Some people look down at those that are into wrestling, Those that love wrestling, We see the art, the athleticness, the combining of many things into this almost unique form of entertainment. we get lost in it, it real to us.. It can make us forget troubles, our struggles, it often lifts us up, when we are down, it gives us strength, it brings people together in so many ways. It bonds us.
We all can agree to disagree on so many things, We all don't see the same things when watching. The (wrestling) world is not perfect, and won't ever will be but I think we can agree it can always be better, but what we get, can be very amazing and we should respect those that make the effort to give us so much entertainment. Being a wrestling fan in 2019 is very great, especially if you have access to the internet. There so much wrestling related stuff that can be watched/listen to, like never before with in seconds from all over the world, old stuff, new stuff, all different kind of flavors.
We all are living in this crazy, yet amazing place called Earth(I think anyways, if you are on Mars, special Hi to you). Tech has made this world, closer than ever, we all can have our say heard. Which I think is good but many have decided to use it for wrong reasons.Like being mean, spreading hate, shaming others on their looks, bodies, skin colors, gender, sexuality, faith/religion, (dis)abilities etc with no care on how damaging it can be to others everywhere.
It has been causing trouble, issues for the whole wrestling community, probably since the start of the internet. What I mean by the whole wrestling community, I'm including everybody from the talent, the media (journalists/reporters, podcasters, etc) and the fans. It feels like it starting to reach it a boiling point where people are quiting Social media, maybe even harming them selves cause of this toxic behavior.
I think it very dang sad, This all around toxicness, It not needed , we can be better then this, we all can make this a better community. Let come together and not further apart. Lets Respect one another, Not shitty to each other (sorry for the curse word), think before speaking or typing, When it something like Do i really need to let it be known that I have this beyond negative thought about another person's body, etc especially if there a chance that they might see /read/ hear the comment. We all need to stop this silly Us vs Them, everyone against us mindset that so many fans seem to have thats get taken too far in my eyes anyways, There room for everybody, even if you might only support, love, like 1 or 2 wrestling companies.
I could go on some and maybe at a later time I will, but I want keep this short as I can but before that.. I know there going be people that have read this and they going be thinking people are just too sensitive, too much of a pussy, there is nothing wrong with a lot of this stuff being said that people consider is toxic, it isn't a big deal, etc. To those people I will say, try having a heart. Don't be me me me 24/7, We need to give some form of support to everyone if anything even if it just words, Not be toxic and hurtful towards them, when we all are already battling so much in our lives.
With that said I feel there needs to be a outlet online on social media to at least be able to have some communication / discussion, at this point I don't know it would be good to have like a witch hunt against all these toxic people, trolls or not, but who knows maybe just seeing some talk on what kind of damage toxic behavior online can do and such, will make some people change or stop so welcome to the.. Our ugly laundry room https://ift.tt/3cE2xtp Sara @ Russet Street Reno When we moved in here in 2015, there was one room that didn't get touched at all. No paint, maybe even no cleaning beforehand. It was ugly as hell, and we moved all our junk in and never looked at most of it again. The floor was dated linoleum with bumps and missing pieces, the walls were typical 70s paneling, and the visible drywall was stained and full of drywall nailheads sticking out. Also, the ceiling tiles were browning, uneven, and the track for them was BLACK. Whyyyy? I made it my goal to fix up this room during our stay at home order. Here it is now!
But just to give you a visual, here is what it was looking like on a daily basis. It was bad, real bad. I hated doing laundry in here, and that is mostly because there was just no room. We had that massive steel shelving unit that was mostly loaded up with junk, so we went through it all and threw a ton of stuff away. Mostly old paperwork. Guys, I had pay stubs saved all the way back to the year 2000! I took this photo after I'd already removed a lot from that shelving unit.
I would constantly be tripping over clothes while trying to wash and dry loads, because I didn't have any room in there to store full baskets. It was so embarrassing!
And to get to the furnace was a shimmy situation, so many things needed to go.
My goal for this room was to update it without buying any paint. I thought a fun idea would be to use up some random sample cans of paint to kill two birds with one stone. I knew I didn't have enough to do the whole room with one, so I looked online for a rug that might tie some colors together. I stumbled on this one at Wayfair, and was sold when I saw how my available colors would work with it! I decided to use Wythe blue on one wall, Palladian blue on the other, and some leftover Anew Gray (the color in the boys' rooms) on the biggest wall. The Fusion Mineral paint 'mustard' color looks nice against the rug, but it just looked like baby poo on the wall. I will not buy paint sight unseen online again!
The only bummer is that the sample jars were satin, and I typically hate satin paint on walls. Since it was 'just a laundry room' (that was my mantra throughout this project haha) I am ok with shiny walls. I started by priming all of the paneling, trim, and cabinet boxes/doors with BIN.
** Note the whole two rolls of TP and two rolls of paper towel we had in the house when I was doing this project. Luckily, we hit the jackpot with a whole 12 pack of TP since this photo! **
I rolled the primer on the paneling and it sanded up so nicely. I even rolled BIN onto the black track of the ceiling, since I intended to paint the ceiling tiles and track later.
Next up was the trim paint used throughout our house, Behr Satin Ultra Pure White.
I noticed something after I painted the trim, our vinyl window looked very yellow and ugly next to the fresh white. The people we bought this house from put the most basic builder windows possible throughout this house, and they are all yellow and gross. I decided to try a magic eraser, and it worked surprisingly well!
I am not sure these windows were ever cleaned.
I also used the magic eraser on the laundry tub, which was brand new and sparkling white when we had it put in a year ago. Not bad!
Painting the ceiling was the first time I had an 'oh crap' moment. Obviously, you normally want to remove ceiling tiles before painting them because they aren't attached and just push up when you apply pressure, but I couldn't since they were very brittle and I would 100% break them all trying to remove them.
Rolling worked ok for the first light coat, then I went in with a brush to really get into the crevices. The bonus is that the paint acted as a glue to hold the tiles down and make it easier to paint without it pushing up each time. Dang, those tiles were gross.
After the ceiling was painted, I turned my attention to the floor. I had a few beers last month and decided to order flooring for delivery from Lowes for this room. It is 4x36" long peel and stick tiles that I used in a closet in our downstairs bedroom, and I found it pretty easy to work with.
However, this room had missing tiles, large humps in the flooring, and lots of stuff to cut around. I improvised for missing tiles by spreading some tile mastic in the space and it worked pretty well.
I started initially at the far wall, then realized how dumb that was and started at the doorway instead. Luckily, I was able to pull up the few I'd already done and reuse them under the washer and dryer. It was so annoying to cut around the pipes and water heater, but I did a pretty good job with only a few wasted tiles.
When I got the first large section done, it was very cool to see the change.
The laundry tub isn't screwed down, so I was able to slide the tiles right under the legs. I did have a hard time with getting flooring under the dryer, since we didn't want to disconnect anything. With Shaun's help, I was able to slide it forward and back until all the pieces were in. I was also able to pull up and reposition anything that didn't lay correctly the first time. But by far the hardest part, was the last row. Of course each piece had to be cut lengthwise, which is very difficult. I ended up making a template with pieces of the backing paper and it worked pretty well.
I just had to remember that I wanted the straight edge to be on the bottom, cut edge to the wall, so I had to reverse the template when I put it on the back to mark and cut.
As you can see here, I didn't remove any of the trim because I wasn't sure if it would ruin the paneling. I wanted to preserve as much as possible without making a big disaster out of this room. The last row isn't perfect, but it's actually pretty good. I can always add a small piece of quarter round or caulk to finish it, but *spoiler* I'm definitely not going to.
Notice all the shavings from trimming each board painstakingly to make them fit.
When the floor was all the way in, I turned my attention to the paint for the walls. I did that part last because I still wasn't sure what colors would go where, and the floor is very easy to cover with plastic.
I had JUST enough paint to do the far wall with BM Wythe Blue, the wall with the door BM Palladian Blue, and then I used leftover SW Anew Gray on the wall with the shelving unit. I also had the unpleasant task of trying to fix this mess around our outlets and light switch:
I used a patch kit from Home Depot, and it was super hard to get the results even. With an extra big switch plate cover, it's fine now. After the paint was up, it was time to work on the details for the cabinet doors and get them rehung. I spray painted the brass hinges and screws, as well as an existing hook rack, with Rustoleum Satin black. Side note: do you all have 15 random cans of spray paint in your garage or basement too??
This rack used to be an oil rubbed bronze and I preferred all black. It is the perfect size for this spot, so I got to hang it right back up in it's existing holes.
It was so fun to watch the transformation take place! I wanted to spend as little as possible, but I did want to add a few details to really make it pretty in here. One of those details was these amazing knobs for the cabinet doors. They are only $20 for 4 on Amazon! I was scoping out something similar on CB2 for $13 each, so this was an absolute steal! They are heavy and seem like real stone.
I love the brushed brass base and marbled black top. So chic!
I also found the perfect hooks for some hanging planter holders I already had. I found these hooks on Amazon, and they are just what I needed.
The plant hangers are no longer available from Target, I've had them sitting around for a year or two and finally had the perfect spot for them! I did need a pot for the other one, so I snagged this one on Amazon and it's the exact color I wanted!
I also bought a couple simple robe hooks for hanging stuff to dry from Home Depot. Yeah, it's a little crooked, but so is everything in here.
I wanted to add a little personality, so I reused an old frame and made a little sign in Photoshop. I smile whenever I see it and didn't have to buy anything. It's just a framed piece of paper.
I used an old vase I've had since the Russet street house to hold my dryer balls. Also, dryer balls are pretty useless in my opinion. Oh well, they look cute. I also got a super cute macrame wall hanging to cover the ugly access door to the electrical panel. I'll give you a guess where I got it. Yes, Amazon. I love it!
And here are some full room shots.
The floor and rug were worth the splurge! This flooring is actually very cheap, $1 per piece/sq ft. I bought 85 pieces and I didn't end up needing that much.
So happy with the cuts around the water heater!
The 3x5 rug was $109 on Wayfair and I love it! It's flatwoven, so I plan to put a pad underneath. It does shed a lot, but it's worth it for a wool rug. In this picture below, you can see the hump in our floor where the edge is slightly raised. I'm ok with the way it looks, but hopeful that it won't crack. If it does, I have a lot of extra pieces!
The ceiling turned out pretty good, now I need to replace the yellow light cover.
My favorite spot is the window.
And my favorite part, the before and after photos!
This collage really cracks me up, because it shows what really had to happen to make this room the way it is...lots of decluttering!
I would love to make a DIY laundry basket dresser like this one by Ana White, but it will have to wait until things are more normal and I feel comfortable going out to buy the materials. Here is the cost breakdown for this project including tax: Flooring $88 Rug $116 Wall hooks $2 Planter hooks $15 Cabinet knobs $21 Blue pot $23 New plant $5 Macrame wall hanging $21
Total: $291
Having a pretty laundry room: Priceless!

Okay, so the con I just went to was dang near perfectly accessible to my wheelchair, but right now sitting hurts my legs due to a spinal issue, and even lying down in the wheelchair (it reclines) was agony by the end of the weekend. Also I had to drive 2 hours to get to it, so we're desperately looking for Not Drive options. I literally had a memory foam mattress pad on my bed and wheelchair, an accessible room, was able to get into all the venue places I wanted to go, had a microwave and cooler in the room, this is not an accessibility problem this is a "I am 52 years old with multiple serious complex syndromes that cause chronic pain and fatigue and my spine is Not Cooperating with me being in the world right now, no matter how far the world goes to make it work for me" because ME/CFS/RA/EDS/POTS/MCAS/spinal degeneration and nerve outlet bone spurs/PEM are just not very compatible with, oh, leaving the house or being upright in any reasonable form. I'm only able to be on the computer because it is in a blackout-curtained little cubby mounted over an adjustable bed covered in pillows so my body position is absolutely supported when I type, and even so my time there is limited, too.
Anyway, cons were one of those things I could still do up until a few years ago, and now I'm coming to terms with maybe they're not something my body can handle, spirit willing, flesh weak, yadda yadda.
My response to this was done literally like the day after I got back from a con, after the two hour drive.
I was literally on the panels about surviving cons with disabilities and promoting accessibility, this is a convention which works so hard to stay accessible that it was zoom-only for a year or two longer than most cons were. Ironically, I am both immune compromised and have a hard time focusing in zoom panels.
If you're an adult...
You are allowed to read comic books. You are allowed to write fanfiction. You are allowed to play video games. You are allowed to collect stuffed animals, dolls, Funko Pops and whatever else. You are allowed to go to cons. You are allowed to cosplay. You are allowed to have a comfort show, even if it's not popular, or hasn't been "on the air" for decades. You are allowed to have anime crushes. You are allowed to have fun. You are allowed to pursue hobbies, even if you can't monetize them or turn them into a career or a "side hustle." You are allowed to take time out for yourself; that's not the same as totally neglecting all your responsibilities to their detriment. You are allowed to write your own life script, instead of following the one your parents and culture mapped out for you at birth. You are allowed to decide you don't want to have children, or don't want to get married. (Or that you'd like to do those things someday, but not today.) You are allowed to go at your own pace, on your own path. You're allowed to have a life that's not all bills and back pain, fatigue and drudgery. You are allowed to play, as well as work.

AN I’M DYING UP HERE PSA
I’ve gotten a few messages regarding how/where to watch the I’m Dying Up Here pilot, and why/how there are so many Claytastic gifs floating around, so I figure I’ll do a short *snorts* summary of the hows and wheres. Here goes.
The pilot it currently available to watch for free, aka you don’t have to subscribe to Showtime to watch it, at Showtime’s official site here.
However. Seeing as Showtime are right basterds, it is only available within the US, or if you have a VPN to mask your location. This means that if you’re trying to be a law-abiding citizen you’re bang out of luck.
And I tried everything, I tried to sign up for a trial, I tried to order via other outlets, I even tried to subscribe. But no. Showtime doesn’t allow you to subscribe from outside the US, and not even a top notch VPN can help you there bc it’s based off your billing address, and you have to subscribe to an app option like YouTubeTv, Amazon, Hulu and the like. And none of the ones I had any hope of using is available, you guessed it, outside the US. Now, I get that Showtime is an American company, and advertising sense and national pride and whatnot, but gosh golly dang it, it seems like a bit of an overreaction to disallow every other country from buying their services? *smh*
Anyhoo, as I was saying, to watch it you can stream from here with either of the aforementioned options, of you can wait for a goddamn torrent, bc June 4th is gonna come and go without any resolution to this, if you can’t watch it now, or subscribe, then you can’t on the premiere date either. *sighs*
So what to do then if you’re currently not a lucky, for once, US resident, that are graced by the effing effers at the Showtime house of evil, or have the possibility to hop over for a time to watch it, (and may I just say, had I not had other options I would have thought it fucking worth it, I mean have you seeN THOSE GIFS??? YEAH, THEY’RE EVEN BETTER LIVE), well, a VPN is pretty much your only option.
So what is a VPN? And I’m not patronising anyone, I myself didn’t install one until a couple of years ago when Norway started to enforce some laws that, well. Nevermind, I found myself in a jam, and I’ve never looked back.
(I’m adding a read more as I know a lot of people don’t need this information.)
Basically, a VPN masks your IP address, which is to say it gives your location as somewhere other than you are. If you’ve ever seen one of those spy thrillers where they transfer money all over the world, well, that’s basically how it works. You can jump around from area to area, from country to country, and so avoid, well, er, let's say small bumps in the road legality wise. Nothing major of course, but if you say, want to watch something only released in a certain area, and that’s not where you currently are, this is the answer.
There are different kinds though, and they range widely in price and speed and practicality, and I’m not any kind of authority, but I’ll still share what I do know.
If you’re only looking to watch one episode or a couple of YT videos once in a while, then a trial or a limited free service will do you fine. But not all VPNs actually bypass geolocking, aka, they just move you around locally, and not internationally, which does you no good if geoblocks are the very thing you want to conquer. Another thing to consider is obviously price and speed, if you’re streaming you need the connection to be able to keep up, and if you’re a private user, you don’t want it to cost the shirt off your back either.
Another thing to consider is that some providers actually logs your traffic on their servers, and keep the information there, hence are in a position to give third parties access to your habits. It’s usually not too big a deal, as most of us aren’t criminal masterminds, (although to be fair, I’ve seen some truly impressive contenders on this very site), and aren’t necessarily to affected by it, but in this day and age when internet privacy is more and more under threat I thought it worth mentioning.
So how to choose? I personally recommend TrustZone or Tunnelbear, the former comes with a three day or 1GB trial, (and they don’t save their server logs), which, as it happens, is about enough to watch it twice. The latter has an unlimited time free version, but their monthly limit is only 500MB, so if you’re just wanting to watch IDUH I’d go for the TZ or another short term option. (There are obviously thousands to choose from, so I’d also just read some comparative reviews and such.)
Right. That was basically it I guess.
(Oh, one more thing. If someone wonders where I got the download to gif, I used a screen recorder, but those hows and whys are for another time.)
Okay. Happy watching! You won’t regret it. I think. :)

Quick and Easy Tips to Save More Money on Amazon

I'm an enormous defender of shopping on Amazon. I'm a Prime part and I wouldn't fret demonstrating my help. They make shopping on the web such a great amount of simpler with their enormous choice and brisk delivery. Their client administration is great also (in the event that you've at any point needed to utilize it). There are not many things I don't care for about Amazon. Hell, I even simply requested another mouthpiece to begin making how-to recordings for my business and they conveyed the thing on a Sunday. I get it implies web based business has no days off any longer. It additionally implies I don't need to step foot in a store on the off chance that I can support it.
I figured it couldn't beat that, however at this point Amazon has presented same day transporting in our general vicinity. I tried it out and it was really cool. I requested in the first part of the day and the thing was there that night. More often than not they charge additional, however the thing I purchased was free that equivalent day. This administration is just accessible to Amazon Prime individuals. In case you're not one, why not evaluate a free, 30-day preliminary?
Since I'm an enthusiast of Amazon, I made an article some time back called "5 minimal realized approaches to set aside cash at Amazon.com." It is my most well known article by a long shot on Debt Roundup. I indicated individuals a couple of ways they can set aside cash while shopping on Amazon for things they needed or just to get the best arrangements. There is even a reward in that article, so six different ways to spare. Since that article, I've been inquired as to whether I was aware of some different approaches to spare. Fortunately for them and for you, I do have more. Considerably more!
24 Easy Ways to Save Money When Shopping on Amazon
Today, I'm going to impart to you 24 different ways, yes 24, to set aside more cash when shopping on Amazon. Having said that, I additionally account brisk delivery, simplicity of profits, and client administration in my thinking to buy something. Ordinarily, there are not many retailers who can contend with Amazon on those dimensions.
Right away, we should begin. Here are the cash sparing tips everybody should know before shopping on Amazon!
Amazon Warehouse Deals
Amazon Warehouse Deals
This is the spot to shop! I have set aside a lot of money here and the items are similarly as great. Amazon's Warehouse arrangements area is for the open-box and limited utilized things Amazon has around. Since they are the biggest retailer, they get things that have transportation harm, were opened and after that returned, or a client simply didn't need them. It happens to each retailer. Rather than simply considering it a misfortune, Amazon sells the things they esteem are in great condition.
At the point when on Amazon, head over to this page to begin shopping their distribution center arrangements. Amazon reviews the product in their distribution center to enable you to settle on a superior choice on what you need. They are New, Like New, Very Good, Good, and Acceptable. I would stay with the initial three when purchasing anything. I had the option to spare $75 off a camera focal point for my significant other in light of the fact that the delivery box was harmed. It was named new, however since there was box harm, they couldn't sell it at the maximum.
I composed an inside and out article about Amazon distribution center arrangements, so look at it and after that begin glancing around to appreciate the reserve funds!
Amazon Outlet
Amazon Outlet
On the off chance that the distribution center arrangements wasn't sufficient, Amazon additionally have an outlet area. This is the place they stick their overloads, more established models, invades, closeouts, and markdowns. The things are largely new, yet they put a profound rebate on them so as to sell. At this moment, you can normally score an arrangement up to 60% off the customary cost. It's a quite decent area to take a gander at. Few out of every odd classification has an outlet segment, yet they manage apparel, gadgets, open air gear, melodic instruments, and a couple of something else. You can ordinarily discover outlet bargains for Amazon's most prominent classifications.
It's a decent spot to search for things you know are not in season. In the event that you need something that you can use in the mid year, yet you're getting it in the winter, check Amazon's outlet segment. You never know!
Amazon Coupons
Amazon Coupons
Did you realize that Amazon has coupons? The vast majority didn't realize that, however they truly do. Amazon has a whole coupon segment only for those searching for certain arrangements! Presently, these coupons will in general be for the greater producers, however the best part is they are moment cut. In case you're hoping to get a few diapers, you can make a beeline for the Coupon area and check whether they have any diaper coupons. A single tick and the investment funds are yours.
On the off chance that you need to simply explore to the coupon area, you can simply go to www.amazon.com/coupons/and you will be there! I composed an inside and out article about Amazon coupons, so you can look that over before you go. Fundamentally, they have coupons for surely understood brands, including nourishment things they stock in Prime Pantry.
They break out the classes for their coupons into segments, for example, Most Popular, Beauty, Grocery and Gourmet, Household Supplies, Electronics, Baby and Child Care, Vitamins and Dietary Supplements, and significantly more. Contingent upon your need, there may be a moment cut coupon sitting tight for you!
Amazon Subscribe and Save
Amazon Subscribe and Save
Need up to 15% off things you ordinarily purchase every single week? At that point you should be a piece of Amazon's buy in and spare program! Truly, this little diamond enables you to buy in to a lot of items you typically purchase (think ordinary things), however get a good deal over it. Buy in and Save conveys items to you all the time. adventures in room scheduling, part 2
im not sure how many of you know this--or would even need to know this--but it’s hard to find a good classroom on campus. the perfect classroom is a mythic figure i am willing to chase, but dang, is it hard. i dream of a classroom with actual windows, plenty of outlets, and a whiteboard without staining. a projector and screen that do not make ghost noises when used. clean tables, comfortable chairs. wouldn’t that be nice?
spoiler alert--we did not get that room.
long story short, i fought the good fight to no avail. while i did get us a room with computer access and outlets, it is also in a dungeon. like, 30 minutes away from the office that i actually use. and about 5 min away from the tiny closet office that i’ve been in once. it’s not a terrible walk, but i am pretty sure it’s through non-euclidean space. so, that’s an adventure.
#goodbye vitamin d#hello dungeon computer lab!#second year in a row#that i teach a digital media course in that room#i dream of outlets#making the best of it#engl108D#fall 2017
